WIN METHOD --- WINTER BREAK --- HOT STOVE --- HEADED TO 2023 SEASON

The 2022 season is over. Another solid winning season making the playoffs. Sadly another season of getting knocked out of the playoffs and not making the World Series. A good season, yes, to make the playoffs, but not good enough to make the World Series.

The hot stove has been hot and is burning strong. Many big names have changed uniforms so far. The YANKEES re-signed free agent Aaron Judge and signed a top of the rotation starter in free agent Carlos Rodon.

As I told all the WIN METHOD fans in my July 5, 2022 blogpost, Aaron Judge was not going to sign with any other team but the YANKEES. Attaining Rodon is a fine upgrade to the starting rotation.  With the addition of Rodon, the rotation is more balanced with three right handed starters and two left handed starters. Cole, Cortes, Rodon, Louie Louie, and Montas.

With Benintendi lost to free agency there is an opening in left field, I would think and hope the YANKEES will give Oswaldo Cabrera every chance to earn and then hold the left field position. Then there is the infield to deal with. First base as of now is the only infield position set in stone. Anthony Rizzo has first base locked up. There may or may not be a deal coming this winter to help decide the infield spots at second base, third base, and shortstop. But the YANKEES have an abundance of bodies in LeMahieu, Torres, Peraza, Kiner-Falefa, Donaldson, and possible even Volpe to fill the three positions. How things shake out during the winter break and then spring training will eventually tell the story.

The bullpen has many arms and should be no issue throughout the 2023 season, There are a couple of youngsters in the minors who are still developing and who knows just when the light bulb goes off for them and they are ready to make an impact at the major league level.

At the catcher position. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing what left handed hitting catcher Ben Rortvedt will bring to the team. Rortvedt may provide a big surprise. I would  think the YANKEES will not carry three catchers and either Trevino or Higashioka will be gone.

In the minor leagues the YANKEES have a bunch of  fine looking youngsters at all positions, as WIN METHOD as they can be, how they bloom and grow over time will determine their ultimate value.

WIN METHOD fans, I can't say this often enough. You are the smartest and most knowledgeable baseball fans in the world. You make fans at all the other blogs, sites, forums, or whatever look silly. You all, have made the WIN METHOD blog the number one go to site for YANKEE baseball talk and information, You fans are positive, uplifting, and use common sense. All of you KNOW baseball. Around February 2023, this blog will attain one billion five hundred million views, 1,500,000,000. Thank you all, you truly are the greatest YANKEE fans in the world.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS, to each and every one of you wherever you are across this planet. I still get amazed when I look and see the hundreds of countries all of the viewers of the WIN METHOD blog come from. Everyone, have a happy and healthy new year. Lets win a World Series. LETS GO YANKEES.

Judge first inning HR gives Yankees 2-0 lead after two innings. So far so good on Brito.

Yanks up 2-0 after 4.

Nick Polito said...

Brito had to work hard this time out, goes 4 1/3 innings allowing 1 run and 3 hits. Leaves game leading 2-1 and will earn a no decision. So, four starts, two real good, one OK, and one awful.

Yankees scored 2 runs in 1st inning after first two batters. Haven't scored since, but still hold 2-1 lead thru 7 innings.

Extra innings of Manfred (LOSER) extra inning little league baseball tied at 2. The Yankee have not produced one time so far this game when it mattered most. All they needed was one time and the game would have been over.

Final. Yankees win 3-2 in 10 innings on a walk off sacrifice fly by Torres. Hamilton get the win. Brito gives up 1 run going 4 1/3 innings and bullpen goes 5 2/3 innings giving up 1 run. Rubber game tomorrow (4PM starting time) with Cortes starting. Lineup needs to score some runs.

Nicholas Katsaros said...

Only time in game the Yankees produced when it mattered most. Got the runner in for third base with less than two outs, and it wins the game. A win earned is always good, and only wins will get you to the playoffs.

Seth Franklin said...

Judge defined WIN METHOD tonight. In the 3-2 win, he put 2 of the Yankee runs on the board with a home run, and kept 2 Angel runs off the board, 1 with a leaping catch at the centerfield wall that took a home run away from the Angels, and with a diving catch in the right centerfield alley to keep at least 1 run off the board and close out an Angel rally. Plays like that is what determines which team wins pretty much every game throughout the season.

And yes, yet again, only wins get a team to the playoffs.

Can't wait to see what lineup Boone comes up with today against another left handed pitcher.

Todays Yankee lineup.

Nestor Cortes (L) P

1. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Anthony Rizzo (L) 1B
4. Gleyber Torres (R) DH
5. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
6. Oswald Peraza (R) 2B
7. Oswaldo Cabrera (S) LF
8. Jose Trevino (R) C
9. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) CF

As things stand right now, this is likely the best lineup we have against a left handed pitcher. Playing for another series win this afternoon.

Yankees after scoring five runs in first inning do nothing for the next five innings, but do give up three runs putting the Angles back in the game. Then in the seventh they get the three runs back for a 8-3 lead after seven innings.

Final. Yankees win 9-3. Cortes earns the win going six innings allowing 3 runs. Yankees scored 5 runs in first inning capped by Trevino base clearing 3 rbi double. Marinaccio, Peralta, and Weissert go final three innings. Yanks win another series.

This has to be the best Yankee infield since Jeter retired.

Rizzo -- first base. Peraza -- second base. LeMahieu -- third base. Volpe -- shortstop.

They are fun to watch. Offensively and defensively.

Doug Parker said...

YankeeMike, that infield should play every game every day. For a break at any position, you just fill in with Torres and Cabrera. And if absolutely necessary for a game here and there Donaldson.

Donaldson can play 3b and LeMahieu 1b when Rizzo get time off. Let the kids play. DFA Hicks.

Bombshell: Ex-CIA Chief Confessed He Got 50 Colleagues To Co-sign False Hunter Biden Laptop Letter In Bed To ‘Help Biden’
Story by David Wetzel • 1h ago

Joe Biden's presidential campaign allegedly urged a top United States official to "help Biden" by getting signatures stating that the investigation on Hunter Biden's laptop was Russian disinformation.

The Biden camp reportedly asked former acting CIA Director Mike Morell to "help Biden" get 50 colleagues to sign a letter in October 2020 stating that the allegations about Hunter Biden's laptop having damning information was merely a ploy by the Russians to undermine the United States.

Morell told the House Judiciary Committee during a private sworn testimony that Antony Blinken, now the secretary of state, was the Biden camp official who asked him "on or before" Oct. 17, 2020, to organize signatures to say the allegations against Hunter Biden were Russian misinformation.

Final. Yankees win 3-2 on a great Saturday afternoon game between two of the best teams in baseball. Game was scoreless until 2 outs in the bottom of 8th inning. Then all the action starts, Peraza 2 out single followed by Volpe 2 run home run for a 2-0 Yankee lead. Peralta in the 9th gives up a leadoff walk followed by a game tying HR. Then a single. Cordero comes in to get a pop fly out and a double play grounder. Bottom of 9th, Rizzo leads off with a double, Torres infield single puts men on first and third and no outs. Calhoun walks to load the bases. LeMahieu pinch hits and singles in the winning run for a 3-2 walk off win. Rubber game tomorrow.

Sadly, I missed the game today. It had to be a great win, it could even call it as winning it twice between the 8th and 9th innings.

Eddie OConnor said...

Fred Slube, you did miss a good game. The Blue Jays had opportunities early, but could never produce when it counted most. They did that one time in the ninth and I thought for sure the Yankees would lose.

Benny Pake said...

I have to admit I am pessimistic about tomorrow's game with Schmidt starting. He hasn't thrown a good game yet this year.

Benny Pake, if Schmidt pitches the way he has been pitching the Yankees may need double digit runs from the offense tomorrow. Maybe Schmidt will surprise us.

Chad Copely said...

I don't know what to expect from Schmidt. He has gotten lit up every start and has given the team no useful innings in any start.

jimbo said...

How WIN METHOD is this. Contributions from players with minimal time in the game. Winning RBI by LeMahieu who pinch hit in the ninth inning, winning run by Kiner-Falefa who pinch ran in ninth inning, and the winning pitcher Cordero who faced one batter in the ninth inning.

downwithfakenews said...

Unfortunately I think Toronto after facing Cole yesterday will think they are seeing a batting practice pitcher in Schmidt.

Ursala Pei said...

Nathan Riley said...

I have no idea why Hicks still has a roster spot. The Yankees play IKF over him in centerfield and Cordero/Calhoun over him at right and leftfield. Hicks also isn't the first pinch hitter option. It makes no sense to keep him on the roster.

Guy Padikian said...

Todays Yankee lineup.

Clarke Schmidt (R) P

1. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Anthony Rizzo (L) DH
4. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
5. DJ LeMahieu (R) 1B
6. Oswaldo Cabrera (S) LF
7. Oswald Peraza (R) 3B
8. Kyle Higashioka (R) C
9. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) CF

Schmidt is the barometer. Righty lineup against a righty pitcher. But a good lineup. The youngsters are playing and they are learning from guys like Judge, Rizzo and LeMaheiu. Yes we can.

yankeeclipper said...

My words of encouragement for Schmidt. If you don't start throwing shutout dominant innings and if you can't get thru a minimum of five or more innings, you won't be in the rotation the first minute I can replace you. will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 5-1. Schmidt pitched great for five innings and then gave up two home runs in the sixth and takes the loss. Yankee lineup anemic until Rizzo hits a meaningless home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. This was the first series the Yankees have lost this season. The bright spot takeaway was Schmidt's five innings of dominating pitching.

Stache Colinski said...

The Yankees need an infusion of life. Team seems to be marching in place. It just be a matter of getting the injured back and getting rid of the dead wood, in order of uselessness -- Hicks, Calhoun, Cordero, Kiner-Falefa.

Why is there a spring training? What good does it do? Use common sense, if you play a sport where it takes numerous skills, you need to be in shape. There should be no off season. A contract given to a player should spell that out. The player must have supervised winter season obligations to get each player in the physical condition needed to play their position without breaking down. There has to be someone out there that can come up with a plan that for each player depending on each players specific needs that can keep players away from so many injuries. Newest news on Judge from a few minutes ago.

Aaron Boone said the team actually might have gotten some good news on Judge’s right hip following a 5-2 loss to the Rangers at Globe Life Field on Friday night.

“It doesn’t seem too serious,” Boone said on the YES Network broadcast, though he added there was “something” that the test showed.

Boone said the Yankees were waiting for team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad to review the results of the MRI that Judge had earlier in the day in Texas. “When we have that,” the manager said, “we’ll know.”

Judge didn’t speak to reporters in Arlington before the game. Judge revealed the injury Thursday after coming out in the fourth inning of a 4-2 win over Texas. He said he suffered it when he was sliding into third base Wednesday versus the Twins. Judge didn’t so much slide as he did nearly scorpion, with his hands jamming into the bag and his legs almost going over his head.

Yanks down 2-0 after seven innings. No big bat with Judge out, and his replacement, Bauers gets injured in first inning and doesn't even get an at bat.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 2-0. Brito went five innings allowing a two run home run in the fifth for the only runs of the game and he takes the loss. Jake Bauers, called up from AAA and playing in his first MLB game, gets injured in the first inning and will undergo an MRI tomorrow. Cortes start tomorrow and Yanks need a win to split this four game series.

The MRI report on Judge is a mild strain of his right hip. What a nightmare this season has been.

1. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
2. Oswald Peraza (R) 3B
3. Anthony Rizzo (L) DH
4. DJ LeMahieu (R) 1B
5. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
6. Oswaldo Cabrera (S) RF
7. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) CF
8. Kyle Higashioka (R) C
9. Aaron Hicks (S) LF

Just thinking of the best player in the past 30 years, Derek Jeter, and his pals, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Tino Martinez, Scot Brosius, and Paul ONeil.

You couldn't write a movie script for a baseball movie like this. No one would believe it. Franchy Cordero who didn't even get out of Texas, was recalled, one day after being demoted, to replace the replacement (Bauers), who only played for three outs and got injured, who was called up to replace the injured Aaron Judge.

Cortes with the worst game of his Yankee career gets hammered and the Yankees are down 8-1 after five innings.

Yanks up 2-0 after 3.

Carl Hooks said...

What a horrid loss. Yanks blow 2-0 lead in ninth and lose 3-2.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 3-2. A heartbreaking loss. German goes eight innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk for his greatest game in his career. Boone pushes the envelope and sends German out to pitch the ninth inning. German get first batter and the gives up a single. Boone take German out and brings Holmes in who gets no one out and blows the game 3-2. I will leave with this comment. Why did Boone allow German to pitch the ninth and take him out after one man reached base? Why did Boone not bring Holmes in to start a clean inning? I am posing these questions only because I took it for granted German had done much more than could ever been expected and asking him to go even more was not wise. I never thought German would come out for the ninth inning. This is not second guessing, this in my opinion was common sense. But, then again, Boone is the manager, and/or is he the problem?

Ron Francis said...

I have a pain in my stomach. A nightmare loss in the 9th leading 2-0 and giving up 3. Holmes blows it.

Randy Holt said...

Managers don't play in games and their decisions win or lose are determined by what the players on the field do and how they perform. However, there are times when a manager's decision can be questioned. Tonight was an easy one. Holmes should have started the ninth inning. Would the game have turned out differently, we will never know.

RLA said...

It's not Cashman's fault he's bad at his job, just like I don't blame Boone for his inability to think on his feet. I blame Hal for allowing this to continue.

yankeeforever said...

I believe this should be a 'fact' of managing. If, as manager, you decide to let a pitcher start an inning, and you know you are going to take him out if he puts a man on base, then you should NEVER let him start the inning.

Stanley Chin said...

Cole starts tonight to even series. Cole may need to have to pitch a complete game shutout to get a win.

Augie Defonce said...

It looks as if a lot of Yankee fans believe the team needs a new owner.

HerecomestheJudge said...

yankeeforever, you are positively correct. I do not believe in blaming a manager for a decision in general. If Boone takes out German after the 8th inning and lets Holmes try to close out the game starting the 9th inning. That is fine, and when Holmes either saves or blows the game that is on him, not the manager.

However, like you stated, it is on the manager and his half-hearted, undecided managing, to change pitchers after one batter who reached base right after the pitcher just struck out the previous batter and had pitched very well the entire game (25 outs) 2 singles and 1 walk.

bigbadwolf said...

The Yankees are in 6th place in the wild card standings. Still a 1/2 game ahead of the Indians. That is amazing considering the roster, the injuries, and the players who have yet to play a game this season. As the great Jim Valvano said, "never give up". Losers (nyyfanforum posters) give up.

Donald Blazina said...

I see Biden and his criminal corrupt joe-bama/commie MALADY administration of radical leftwing liberal democrat criminals are sending 1500 troops to the border. They are not being sent to do any good, but just to show the administration cares. What a joke.

Wayne Wells said...

Donald Blazina, the troops are being sent to the border to help administratively, not to help secure the border. More illegal criminals will be dispersed throughout America faster under the auspices of the joe-bama/commie MALADY administration crime family.

Gerrit Cole (R) P

1. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
2. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B

4. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
5. Harrison Bader (R) CF
6. Willie Calhoun (L) DH
7. Oswaldo Cabrera (S) RF
8. Jose Trevino (R) C
9. Aaron Hicks (S) LF

Bader in CF. Hope no balls hit to left center, Hicks could take Bader out. Two runs wasn't enough for Boone last night.

coryankee said...

Getting back to managerial decisions during any game. Every time any manager makes any decision, it will turn out either right or wrong every time. Only the players on the field thru their performance/production will decide if the decision is right or wrong. As fans we can first or second guess all we want and no one will ever know it we were ever right or wrong anytime, unless we tell them about it.

What I am getting at, the manager does not fail or succeed because of his decision, he fails or succeeds based only on the performance/production of the players on the field. All the time, every time. That is fact, no matter who likes it or not and no matter who accepts it or not.

Phil Jenkins said...

From the Harvard Kennedy School --- Institute of Politics --- March 2023 youth poll

As the HPOP research team continues to focus on youth mental health, and the factors contributing to depression, anxiety, and loneliness -- the team found:

Nearly half (47%) of young Americans indicate that at least several days in the last two weeks, they suffered from “feeling down, depressed, or hopeless.”
Forty-one percent (41%) of young Americans describe persistent feelings of being “afraid, as if something awful might happen.” Young people in college (45%), and those not in college (43%) describe this in roughly the same proportions.
One-third (33%) of all young adults under 30 specifically say that they are “worried about a potential mass shooting when in a public space (such as school/university, mall, office, theater, etc.)” at least several days in the last two weeks. Among those who indicate signs of depression, this number rises to 51%; and for those who describe feelings of fear, it is 57%.

How very sad. The present administration is destroying our country.

Todays Yankee lineup.

Clarke Schmidt (R) P

1. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
2. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
3. Anthony Rizzo (L) 1B
4. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
5. Willie Calhoun (L) DH
6. Harrison Bader (R) CF
7. Jake Bauers (L) RF
8. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) LF
9. Kyle Higashioka (R) C

Bauers in RF. Why is Cabrera not in LF? He is a lefty bat against a right hand pitcher. A win would be great.

yankeeclipper said...

Peraza not in lineup either. I may not like it, but I understand Calhoun a lefty bat being used. Someone would have to sit between Peraza and Torres.

Jerry Curcio said...

German and Cole gave us chances to win the last two nights, Schmidt has to do the same. If he does what he has been doing, there will be a far less chance of a win tonight.

FloridaYankee said...

Torres lack of defensive skills hands Indians 2 get out of jail free runs in first inning. The sad part being Schmidt gave up two 2 out rbi singles. Schmidt, although dealt with a bad hand, did not produce when it mattered most.

Peraza turns ankle stealing base in bottom of ninth. Taken out of game. No joke, this is really happening. Both Bader and Peraza taken out of game with injuries. Then Calhoun ties game with rbi single when it matters most.

Benny Pake said...

3-3 after nine. Little league extra innings.

Tony Manchu said...

Trevino with a pinch hit walk off rbi single in the 10th for a 4-3 win.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 4-3. Abreu gets the win pitching the 10th inning and not allowing the fake runner at second base to score. Schmidt started and went 4 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs and the Yankees down 2-0. The hitting star(s), Calhoun with a HR and a game tying rbi single in the bottom of the 9th sending the game to extra innings. Bauers with a game tying HR after Calhoun HR. And Trevino with a pinch hit game winning walk off rbi single in the 10th. Bullpen was great but for Holmes who gave up a run in the 9th putting the Yankees in a tough spot down 3-2.

Bader and Peraza both left game with injuries in the 9th inning, Bader on defense when he and IKF collided on a short fly pop in left center. And Peraza on offense turning his ankle while stealing second base. Off day tomorrow, let's see how things shake out.

Frank Tagriello said...

5. Willie Calhoun (L) DH
6. Harrison Bader (R) CF
7. Jake Bauers (L) LF
8. Jose Trevino (R) C
9. Oswaldo Cabrera (S) RF

Bader is in. Brito needs to keep us alive. Lineup needs to score. Defense at its best.

yankeedoodledandy said...

Giambino said...

Out call at home plate overturned giving Rays a run in seventh and a 5-4 lead.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 5-4. Tough game to lose. Brito gave up 4 runs in first three innings putting the Yankees down 4-0. The Yankees clawed back and evened the score with a 4 run sixth inning, the big blow a 3 run HR from Bader. Rays win it on a mis-played fly ball by Bauers. Cordero takes the loss for the Yankees.

Mark Wagoner said...

A severely crippled Yankee team gives the Devil Rays all they can handle in Tampa tonite but wind up losing 5-4. Brito allowing 4 runs in the first 3 innings was the difference. Bader with a 3 run HR was the big hit, but in his next at bat, runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, he popped up and could not get the run in from 3rd. Ups and downs.

Jill Byrnes said...

At least the Yanks did not throw in the towel after going down 4-0 early.

6. Jake Bauers (L) RF

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 3-2. The Yankees became to first and only team to best the Tampa Bay Devil Rays this season after Tampa scored first in any game. Tampa scored 2 runs in the first inning and that was all, The Yankees scored 3 runs in the eighth inning, on an RBI double by LeMahieu and a 2 RBI single by Bader for the win. German went five strong innings allowing both Tampa runs on a ball hit hard directly at LeMahieu that was scored a hit even though it went between LeMahieu's legs, Peralta went 2/3 of an inning, Marinaccio 1 1/3 innings, Holmes 1 inning and Hamilton 1 inning of scoreless ball. Marinaccio earned the win, Holmes a hold, and Hamilton earned the save. This was a very big win for the Yankees. Now if Cole can do his thing and the Yankees can win this series, that will be even bigger.

yankeedoodledandy said...

A great win. One other thing, Hicks should never play for the Yankees ever again. Burn his uniform.

Teena/ex-Bronx said...
