WIN METHOD ------ HOT STOVE 2018-2019

The 2018 season is over.  Small success as the YANKEES reached the playoffs.  Big failure as the YANKEES lost the ALDS and did not go as far into the playoffs as they did in 2017.   So on to 2019.

The YANKEES had far too many injuries in 2018.  Some of the injuries kept players out not for days, but for weeks and months, and some for the season and into the coming 2019 season.

The YANKEES front office has some work to do this winter and the hot stove should be ready to start getting very warm.  The YANKEE primary need appears to be a front line starting pitcher and a good left handed bat.  Trading away Torres or Andujar would be a major boondoggle and a blunder that the team may not be able to overcome.  The YANKEES will not start the season with Montgomery and Gregorius, both out with major injuries.  The YANKEES have already resigned Bret Gardner for 2019 on a one season contract deal.  I cannot go into who the YANKEES should or should not sign here for proprietary reasons, I will leave that to all you brilliant WIN METHOD posters with all the common sense in the world.   I will say that if things go right there will be one giant acquisition that should help the team enormously.

Don't forget, this team despite the countless injuries, won 100 games in 2018 and where eliminated from the playoffs by a team that won 108 games in 2018, defeated the YANKEES and then defeated the Houston Astros who won 103 games in 2018, and then went on to win the World Series easily trouncing the inferior league champion LA Dodgers.

Keep an eye on the hot stove and lets see what happens.  I don't touch or go near the hot stove, what happens this winter is up to Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and the Yankee hierarchy.  Lets hope for the best and LETS GO YANKEES.

I wonder if the stat frauds still want the Yankees to sign Dallas Keuchel.

Fred Slube.... remember, the stat frauds don't know baseball. They just react with ignorance and parrot what others of their ilk say.

Cessa may be the front runner in the starting pitcher competition. He has more MLB experience, and as they say, when the light bulb goes off a pitcher can turn the corner and become a new man who makes an impact for his career. When that is no one knows, but it does happen consistently. Maybe the light bulb goes off for Cessa first, maybe it doesn't.

Guido Pizzaman said...

Walt Belamy, you may be right on. In the long run, either or both German/Loaisiga may be better than Cessa. As you said, when the bulb goes off it changes everything.

Here is what appears to be the Yankee roster plan to start the 2019 season.......

The Yankees appear to have finalized their Opening Day roster, with outfielder Mike Tauchman, who was acquired from the Rockies on Saturday, making the club over infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade, who was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday morning.

In announcing the acquisition of Tauchman for Minor League left-hander Phillip Diehl, manager Aaron Boone said that he saw the 28-year-old as being capable of playing all three outfield spots. Wade, a converted infielder, began playing the outfield during the Arizona Fall League in 2016.

Selecting between Tauchman and Wade for the final bench spot was the remaining decision for Boone and his staff, assuming that Stephen Tarpley will have a bullpen spot following a terrific Spring Training that saw the left-hander win the James P. Dawson Award as the club's top rookie in camp.

The rotation projects to feature Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, J.A. Happ and Domingo German in that order, with CC Sabathia also being carried until his five-game suspension expires.

At that point, the Yankees plan to recall Jonathan Loaisiga from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and place Sabathia on the injured list, with the veteran aiming for a late April return to the Majors.

Sabathia on Minors start
Sabathia on Minors start
00:58
Mar. 21st, 2019
Behind closer Aroldis Chapman, the bullpen will be comprised of Zack Britton, Luis Cessa, Chad Green, Jonathan Holder, Tommy Kahnle, Adam Ottavino and Tarpley.

New York will carry catchers Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine, plus infielders Miguel Andujar, Greg Bird, DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, Troy Tulowitzki and Luke Voit. Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Tauchman are the active outfielders.

The injured list will be populated by right-handers Dellin Betances (right shoulder impingement) and Luis Severino (right shoulder inflammation), outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (recovery from left hip surgery), shortstop Didi Gregorius (recovery from Tommy John surgery), right-hander Ben Heller (recovery from Tommy John surgery) and outfielder Aaron Hicks (chronic back pain).

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery (recovery from Tommy John surgery) was placed on the 60-day injured list Saturday to create a 40-man roster spot for Tauchman. Montgomery is aiming for an August return to the big leagues.

The Yankees won today. Yes Paxton was the starter and went 5 2/3 innings. But, think of the game this way, Yankee 25 man roster players who weren't even in the ballpark, Hicks, Gardner. Stanton, Judge, Sanchez, Torres, LeMahieu, Tulowitzki, Andujar, Tanaka, Louie Louie, CC, Happ, Betances, Chapman, Tarpley, Khanle, German, Loaisiga, Green. That is 20 of the 25 man team. Also the new guy form the Rockies, Tauchman.

The Yankees have the best record in baseball this spring (which means nothing), but they did it with 2/3 of the playing time played by minor leaguers and many low minor leaguers. Other teams did also, but our guys were very impressive.

Will Boone go with all the big guys in the last spring game tomorrow night? I wouldn't think they would fly the minor leaguers to DC for just the one game. All the regulars tomorrow.

For 2019 we know we can. And we will.

We will overcome all roadblocks. Yes we will. LETS GO YANKEES, LETS GO.

Nestor Cortes starts the Yankees final spring training game tonight at 5PM in Washington DC against the Nationals.

It looks like the Yankees have brought at least one minor leaguer north to play in the last spring training game with Cortes starting. Lets see who's in the lineup tonight and who else pitches.

I see in his first game after knowing he was going to AAA, frazier got a big hit yesterday. A day late and a dollar short gets you nowhere and nothing.

Best record in spring training. CC and Louie Louie never pitched in a game. The sky is the limit.

The best part of this off season was not signing Machado or Harper. This team will excel for the next decade without either of those albatross contracts and play for themself players contaminating the young Yankee future.

Bud Light said...

William Mensom.......They teams who did sign them will not come close to having the success the Yankees will have for as long as they have Harper and Machado.

Nestor Cortes Jr. LHP

NYY Lineup

B Gardner (L) CF
A Judge (R) RF
G Stanton (R) LF
L Voit (R) DH
M Andújar (R) 3B
G Sánchez (R) C
G Torres (R) 2B
T Tulowitzki (R) SS

No Bird at 1B. Now that's a lineup. Every game someone has to sit.

First time for the full lineup. Maybe the best in baseball.

Cortes did not start. Tarpley, Britton, Ottavino, each an inning, 1,2,3.

Al Ashton said...

Yankees did bring a whole contingent of minor leaguers as ig guys only go two at bats and are replaced.
