WIN METHOD ------ HOT STOVE 2018-2019

The 2018 season is over.  Small success as the YANKEES reached the playoffs.  Big failure as the YANKEES lost the ALDS and did not go as far into the playoffs as they did in 2017.   So on to 2019.

The YANKEES had far too many injuries in 2018.  Some of the injuries kept players out not for days, but for weeks and months, and some for the season and into the coming 2019 season.

The YANKEES front office has some work to do this winter and the hot stove should be ready to start getting very warm.  The YANKEE primary need appears to be a front line starting pitcher and a good left handed bat.  Trading away Torres or Andujar would be a major boondoggle and a blunder that the team may not be able to overcome.  The YANKEES will not start the season with Montgomery and Gregorius, both out with major injuries.  The YANKEES have already resigned Bret Gardner for 2019 on a one season contract deal.  I cannot go into who the YANKEES should or should not sign here for proprietary reasons, I will leave that to all you brilliant WIN METHOD posters with all the common sense in the world.   I will say that if things go right there will be one giant acquisition that should help the team enormously.

Don't forget, this team despite the countless injuries, won 100 games in 2018 and where eliminated from the playoffs by a team that won 108 games in 2018, defeated the YANKEES and then defeated the Houston Astros who won 103 games in 2018, and then went on to win the World Series easily trouncing the inferior league champion LA Dodgers.

Keep an eye on the hot stove and lets see what happens.  I don't touch or go near the hot stove, what happens this winter is up to Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and the Yankee hierarchy.  Lets hope for the best and LETS GO YANKEES.

If Machado was WIN METHOD the Yankees would have already signed him.

Another week and still no big FA signings. Our first spring game one week from today.

A team can win with the right combination of players. Those winning combination of players will earn their dollars for producing when it counts to help their team win. Those players are the players who should get paid better than players who do not help their team win. Paying Machado what he wants hurts a team. A team can only pay so much, even when winning. By not paying a huge contract allows the team to pay more players a higher fairer salary keeping them all happy and winning. NO ONE PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM.

My conclusion is rot in hell Manny and maybe Bryce.

Gus Papa said...

Big contracts for long terms kill teams and make the individual player rich. Not good.

coryankee said...

How WIN METHOD is new Yankee DJ LeMahieu. He is a contradiction. In the clubhouse, in front of the media, he is quiet, passive, and almost intentionally boring. But ask any Rockies player and they’ll tell you that no one is tougher or more competitive on the diamond.
Pure WIN METHOD. Unlike Manny the mooch Machado. Pure loser.

Linda Pardo said...

I know it isn't so, but wouldn't it be nice if LeMaihieus initials stood for Derek Jeter.

Betances late into camp, but with good reason. His wife just gave birth to a son, Dellin Jr.

Manny to San Diego and Harper to Philadelphia. This is a prediction. Better them than us.

I love the upgrades the Yankees have signed for this season. We are upgrading a 100 win team. How sweet it is.

All position players report to camp today. Full workouts tomorrow. First spring game in five days against the bosux on Saturday the 23rd.

The guys who reported to camp early should have a leg up on the guys getting there today. Everyone should come to camp in shape anyways. It is their job for heaven's sake.

How exciting to have baseball back. After over two years I will be able to go to a live game again. I used to post as Jackson DeWitt-Camp Market, South Korea.

Yankees on a roll as Nolan Arenado is now out of the picture as he and Rockies agree to a high dollar long term extension which pretty much kills the Rockies chances for a few years.

Chance Adams listed as Yankee starter for tomorrow. Unless Tanaka got his work in somehow around the rainout it may be his start.

Yankees are the winners by not signing Machado or Harper.

Steve said...

The games are won on the field by the team with the players who play to win and produce the most when it counts offensively and defensively, pitchers and position players, for the team to win enough games to reach the playoffs and beyond. Contracts don't matters, dollars don't matter, individual player stats don't matter. Wins and winning are all that matter.

Ivan Noriokos said...

Steve, but when the high individual stat players don't win, it is their teammates fault.

Paxton listed as starter for tomorrow's game at Steinbrenner Field as the Yankees host the Orioles for a 6:30PM game under the lights.

Louie Louie hasn't pitched in a game yet. Tanaka was listed but rained out. Yankees seem to be using a different protocol for several players, likely for reasons only know by them. All the outsiders can do is guess or make up stories like the fake news does.

A round of applause for WIN METHOD poster Tommy Lee who posted back on Feb 17 his prediction that Machado would sign with San Diego and Harper would sign with Philadelphia. He nailed it.

Carl Hooks said...

Nice job Tommy Lee. I bet few and far between people thought that combination was likely.

Yanks23245 said...

Tommy Lee, I have not heard nor seen anyone else predicting what you did on Harper and Machado. Good call.

James Paxton LHP

NYY Lineup

A Hicks (S) CF
A Judge (R) RF
G Stanton (R) DH
G Sánchez (R) C
L Voit (R) 1B
G Torres (R) SS
D LeMahieu (R) 3B
B Gardner (L) LF
K Holder (L) 2B

Sanchez is in for the first time. Look at 2B, 3B, SS. At six, this may be the most starters in a spring game so far this season.

Bud Light said...

Hicks over Harper. 10 mil/year over 30 mil/year.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Look at that lineup. Holy cow. Now, take out Gardner and Holder. Torres goes to 2B, Tulowitzki in for SS. Stanton goes to LF, Andujar to 3B or DH, and LeMahieu is 3B or DH. That makes for the best lineup in baseball. And a division winner. On the bench, Romine, Gardner, and Bird. AAA ready to go Wade, Frazier, Higashika, at moments notice.

Phil Esposito said...

Just hope everyone stays healthy and all have a decent acceptable season producing when it counts to win games.

5.A Romine (R) C
6.C Frazier (R) DH

Kenny Sheperd, I agree. Three of our starters have not been in a spring game yet, but have worked sim games against our better hitters. First time I've seen the Yankees use this approach. Maybe they are doing things they don't the opposition to know about yet.

Here is a post from Hobbs from back in late November 2018 regarding Yankee payroll for 2019.

""""""Hobbs said...
Bronxy, I can only guesstimate using common sense. I will use round numbers starting at 192M. We already added Paxton who made 5M in 2018. Double his 5M to 10M. Trading Gray and acquiring Gennett and raising Gennetts salary 2M will add just 1M. The two bullpen arms needed since both Britton and Robertson are FA's is debatable. Lets say it costs the Yankees an added 5M to sign the two needed relievers, but it could be less or more. Now the only need is another starter and lets go high and say 25M.

We started at 192M + 5M + 1M + 5M + 25M = 228M. Hopefully Hal would go with that in a heartbeat."""""""

It wasn't Gennett but I was LeMahieu. Also came very close to final salary. Great job by Hobbs using common sense and smart thinking.

Louie Louie getting an MRI this afternoon.

Louie Louie MRI shows inflammation of the rotator cuff. To be shut down for two weeks. That backs him up until 2nd or 3rd week of April.

Phil Esposito said...

Cashman is smart enough not to go out and sign another pitcher. Lets go with what we got.

Lou Moscowitz said...

The Yankee tend to not push injured players before they are healed and ready to go. They will do the same with their gem 'ace' pitcher. Louie Louie if kept out until May would only miss a max of 7 starts and more than likely less.

7.C Frazier (R) LF
8.A Romine (R) C
9.T Wade (L) 2B

Yankee host the Cardinals this afternoon at 1 PM. Loaisiga can make a statement today.

Jackson DeWitt-Iowa said...

The Yankees could DL Louie Louie to start the season. Then mix and match German, Loaisiga, and Cessa as needed. They could also manage with only four starters because of many off days in April. Just don't sign a useless arm and waste a roster spot. Bloom and grow with our own.

Domenic said...

Louie Louie got his cortisone shot for his shoulder, inflamed rotator cuff. There is NO structural damage. Shoulder is sore after shot. Will not throw a ball for two weeks.

Yanks23245 said...

In watching today's game I came away with this observation of Clint Frazier. He struck out looking with men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. He misplayed a fly ball into a double. He looks like he is just a AAA player. You come to spring training with everything to prove and all you do is prove negatives.

Bobby Behan said...

Cashman know better than to deal from behind. He will go with in house pitchers while Louie Louie recovers.

BIGTIMEYANKEE said...

Estevan Florial the 21 year old future Yankee center fielder with a booming three run home run today as he continues to impress this spring. Bloom and grow, bloom and grow.

Stanley Chin said...

The question with Florial will be how fast he moves up the ranks. Gardner is gone next year opening up a spot that it appears Clint Frazier is totally unable to earn. Florial is a five tool player with superb defense, blazing speed, very strong arm, and if the bat says he is ready it will be hard to keep him down on the farm.

Andy K said...

Inflammation in the shoulder develops over time with repeated motion. Inflammation can be controlled going forward. As long as there was no tear or other more severe damage Louie Louie should be fine. That is why you see pitchers with the ice sling over the shoulder and arm after each start. Ice helps minimize the inflammation immediately.
