WIN METHOD ------ HOT STOVE 2018-2019

The 2018 season is over.  Small success as the YANKEES reached the playoffs.  Big failure as the YANKEES lost the ALDS and did not go as far into the playoffs as they did in 2017.   So on to 2019.

The YANKEES had far too many injuries in 2018.  Some of the injuries kept players out not for days, but for weeks and months, and some for the season and into the coming 2019 season.

The YANKEES front office has some work to do this winter and the hot stove should be ready to start getting very warm.  The YANKEE primary need appears to be a front line starting pitcher and a good left handed bat.  Trading away Torres or Andujar would be a major boondoggle and a blunder that the team may not be able to overcome.  The YANKEES will not start the season with Montgomery and Gregorius, both out with major injuries.  The YANKEES have already resigned Bret Gardner for 2019 on a one season contract deal.  I cannot go into who the YANKEES should or should not sign here for proprietary reasons, I will leave that to all you brilliant WIN METHOD posters with all the common sense in the world.   I will say that if things go right there will be one giant acquisition that should help the team enormously.

Don't forget, this team despite the countless injuries, won 100 games in 2018 and where eliminated from the playoffs by a team that won 108 games in 2018, defeated the YANKEES and then defeated the Houston Astros who won 103 games in 2018, and then went on to win the World Series easily trouncing the inferior league champion LA Dodgers.

Keep an eye on the hot stove and lets see what happens.  I don't touch or go near the hot stove, what happens this winter is up to Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and the Yankee hierarchy.  Lets hope for the best and LETS GO YANKEES.

Andujar, Andujar, Andujar, Andujar. Lets go Yankees.

Ziggy Mann said...

Andujar will be better than Machado, offensively and defensively. Andujar will help lead the Yankees to the playoffs and beyond, but Machado will not.

Yankeefan2 said...

Andujar, practice makes perfect, but no one is perfect, but you can be the best if you practice. Yes you can, just practice, yes you will, practice.

Carl Hooks said...

Stan the Man, thanks for the video. A player who can make plays like that, can learn to make the easier plays. Only fools would ridicule anyone who has the ability demonstrated in the video. We all know who the fools are.

Chad Copely said...

Fans, remember any defensive metrics used to demean Andujar are meaningless and thus useless in evaluating his defense.

Henry Orr said...

How much damage did Andujar do playing third base last season?, the Yankees won 100 games. Sorry, forgot, the stat frauds don't like wins and winning.

Walt Belamy said...

Yankees officially signed reliever Adam Ottavino today.

Hobbs said...

Way back I posted an estimated Yankee salary of 228 million for 2019. I think it is estimated to be at 224 million right now.

Ivan Noriokos said...

Hobbs, there still may be a change or two before the season starts.

Gil McKenzie said...

Can any stat fraud tell me exactly how many games the Yankees lost last season directly because of Andujars defense? What dates? One caveat, you can't make up any games?

Angel Cordero said...

Gil McKenzie, funny, if the stat frauds can't make it up it ain't real.

Ned Green said...

Lets go Yankees. Lets win it all.

Logan/Kentucky said...

I believe that the very high asking price of players is coming back to haunt them. Especially the players who have not helped their team to great success. They want to get paid for what they have accomplished for their own statistics and not what they have done for their team. It looks like their demands are coming back to haunt them. None of them are worth being paid what they are asking. I do not care how much the owners are making. No matter how much an owner makes means they have to pay exorbitant salaries to the people they hire. How about the usher at the ballpark, maybe your usher, claiming he is the best usher in the world because he seats the most people every game demanding three three times the salary of an average usher.

Andrew J said...

San Diego Padres throw their hat into the ring showing interest in Machado. Another good fit for Manny.

Hal Jenks said...

The problem with rating players on their individual stats is that not is why baseball games are played for. The game is played for the team to win.

Glen Corbet said...

Teams don't win because of one or two players, they win because of all players and their contributions, particularly when it matters most.

okiened said...

Glen Corbet, that is a proven and that is fact.

Neil Golub said...

18 days until Yankee camp opens. Nice.

Phil Jenkins said...

There may be a glimmer of light out there. I see some fans starting to challenge the fake stats and not accepting them like sheep being led into idiocy. A stat formula consisting of any value in it that is a man created number (value) is not real. The created number is a whim of the creator, contains the creators bias, and is thus meaningless.

NJYANKEE said...

Values are functional. A single is a single is a single, but a single with men on 2nd and 3rd will usually mean your team scored two runs on that single.

A triple with no outs gives your team a better chance of scoring a run than a triple with two outs. However, both are dependent on the batter(s) after the triple.

All I am trying to get across is what the WIN METHOD espouses. It is when things happen that is more important than how often they happen.

Sharon/NC said...

Holding my breath and saying a prayer everyday that the Yankees don't sign Machado.

muchomachoman said...

Sharon/NC, from your lips to God's ears.

yankeeclipper said...

This team is pretty much set now. Maybe a minor tweak and lets see who stands out at spring training.

Harry Stavris said...

yankeeclipper, Spring training should be fun. I bet a couple of guys will open some eyes and give us more depth than many people realize we have. WIN METHOD knows his stuff.

Sammybigdog said...

If the Yankees do not sign Manny the mooch and they don't win the WS this season the stat frauds will blame Yankee management for not signing the mooch. If the Yankees do not win the WS in 2020 the stat frauds will blame Yankee management. Over and over like a broken record.

Wallyworld said...

Another week goes by with little to no interest in the three high dollar free agents still available. It seems, mum, is the word on Harper, Kimbrel, and Machado as each finds they are not worth what only they, ignorant analysts, and even more ignorant stat frauds think they are.

Zhaire said...

I was never a fan of Tulowitzki, but alas now he is a Yankee. I hope he shocks everyone and performs better than many he thinks he can this spring and this season. If he can't the Yankees have plan B ready to roll.

Benny Pake said...

Well, the Yankees have very little to lose in giving Tulowitzki a chance. He either has it or doesn't. I would hope he is not just wasting time because he has nothing to lose, being paid by the Jays.

Tommy Stenchion said...

If Tulo has lost a step Andujar will cover for him.

Cindy Jackson said...

Tommy Stenchion, LOL.

Izy Hernandez said...

About 2 1/2 weeks until camp opens. It is nice not needing anything as far as the team is concerned. Only hoping we don't do anything stupid.

Logan/Kentucky said...

It's sort of nice right now with the Yankees pretty much set to go to camp. Not chasing anyone, have what we need, and are deep.

Dag Traweck said...

The team that signs Machado will have a disaster to deal with and will have shot themselves in the foot.

Gene A said...

What will the stat frauds say when Andujar is in the playoffs and Machado isn't this coming season?

Cory said...

Still waiting for any and all stat frauds to come here and defend their fake made up convoluted formulas.

Victor Grandozi said...

I would think that most teams would love to get their deals done before spring camps open, thus there may be a flourish in activity with the last group of unsigned free agents in the next couple of weeks.

YankeeMike said...

Cory, I think we will be waiting 'until the cows come home'. The stat frauds can't defend their views in an open and fair forum where both sides are allowed to express their opinions.

Yankeeforever said...

With the high price players struggling to get what THEY want in salary, maybe the WIN METHOD is making inroads with the owners. Owners may be seeing that NO player is worth the exorbitant salaries they were being paid and for as many years. Less dollar and shorter year deals seem to be winning the day now.

Lou Moscowitz said...

Yankeeforever, what goes around comes around. Personally I hate to see what some of the dirtbag players are being paid. Particularly the ones who don't help their team win.

Diane Stahl said...

I wonder if either Machado or Harper have the guts to take a 1 year deal with a team and try free agency again next year.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Diane Stahl, I go a long way back when every players contract was one year at a time. And there was no free agency, the player was owned by the team.

Dennis Trovato said...

Everything evolves. In the past couple of decades players were getting overpaid. Now it is catching up to them.

Tommy Lee said...

Not every team with the highest payrolls get to the playoffs, but the teams with the right combination of players do get to the playoffs, no matter what their payroll is.

Steve, but Machado has a very high WAR rating. That means he improves any team he would play for.

Mookie Best had the highest WAR and won the World Series.

Steve said...

Dustin Howell, True. Mookie Best helped his team to win the World Series and wins and winning made him one of the best MLB players at his position in baseball last season. Now tell me about all the other high WAt players who did not even make the playoffs. Most on the list did not make the playoffs. WAR is garbage. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I suggest you read this blog from the start to finish. It may take you some time but read it. You will find out that wins and winning tell you who the best players in baseball are every season. The players who lead their team to the playoffs each season. The more times a player leads his team to the playoffs and the pennant, and then the WS are the best players in baseball. Read this blog and really learn baseball and who is the best.

YankeeMike said...

Signing players at the last minute can screw up the unity and cohesiveness of a team. The Yankees traditionally sign players early and then define a plan of action. Having to change everything around at the last minute is not good. That is why I think the Yankees will not sign anyone to screw up the team unless a major disaster befalls some star.

bigbadwolf said...

Dustin Howell, you did a great job putting into words what you read about the WIN METHOD. You have gotten the point the WIN METHOD is making. Let me add, that players producing when it matters most is what determines wins and winning. Producing, can be accomplished by any and all players. Offensively, defensively, and pitching. Keep reading the blog and post your thoughts whenever you wish. WIN METHOD rules baseball. Wins and winning is always what determines the best players and teams. When someone tells you that a player is the best and you see that the player doesn't help their team to the playoffs consistently, and doesn't produce when they do get to the playoffs, that player can't be the best. Common sense, Dustin, common sense will lead you in the right direction. You will enjoy the game of baseball more when you completely grasp the WIN METHOD. Again, great job.

My two cents to anyone wanting the Yankees to sign Machado or Harper. Why would you screw up a 100 win team with either Machado or Harper, neither of which have a position the Yankees need to fill, because they have players at all positions who don't cost a fortune and are WIN METHOD players. Neither Harper not Machado would help the Yankees be a better team and win more games. Cashman is no fool, has good information, and doesn't want to create another afraud fiasco.

Stan the Man, Machado, no way. Harper, I could see for the left handed bat. But he would disrupt the team more than Machado. Even if Harper plays first base, you then have to give up on Bird and Voit. I don't think it is worth the aggravation.

Tommy Lee said...

As an owner of a baseball team the only good long term high dollar contract is the one you don't sign.

BIGTIMEYANKEE said...

Tommy Lee, I'll do you one better. It's a contract you don't offer.

Guy Padikian said...

6 days until spring training camp, 6.

Mickey Littlebear said...

Less than a week for camp, I can't wait.

Cory said...

I wish Machado and Harper sign sooner than later. I don't want to hear the stat frauds saying over and over that they both want to be Yankees and they will make the team better and win a WS. They are both over valued and will likely be overpaid. When they sign, then the frauds can start crying all season how Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner stink, are stupid, just want to make money, and don't care if the team wins. And they will, why? Because they are stupid.

Juan Pablo Garcia, Dominican Republic said...

The Yankees have told my cousin that if he develops this season in AA/AAA as he did last season, he may have a chance of making the team sometime in 2020.

White Knight said...

Juan Pablo Garcia, I hope Deivi does it, but that word "if" can be a heartbreaker.

Dustin Howell said...

Billy Tedder, northern New Jersey.

Dan Reynolds said...

It may be that Machado will only sign with a team that doesn't care if he hustles, doesn't care about his attitude, and doesn't care if they win.

johnny said...

Lets go Yankees.

Alex Antonius said...

Dan Reynolds, what about Harper?

Dan Reynolds said...

Alex Antonius, Harper would be the smarter better signing, but he likely priced himself far too high when he said that he turned down 10 years and 300 million.

Steve said...

If Harper is WIN METHOD and the Yankees sign him, where do they play everyone? Harper takes Birds spot on the roster as Bird goes to AAA to find himself/confidence. Frazier to AAA. That would leave how many very starter capable players to fill nine spots? 12 or 13.

okiened said...

Harper is not a need. I doubt he adds wins to the team. But he would make the team deeper.

Walt Belamy said...

The best for the Yankees this winter is they improved their starting rotation. The Yankees in essence are a better team right now than they were at the end of last season. That makes for a very successful winter.

Also, just because the all-ignorant stat fraud name someone a 'generational talent" does not make it so. Garbage can only define other garbage. Generational talent players help their team to the playoffs consistently, win pennants, and win World Series multiple times over their career.

Guy Padikian said...

5 days, you can count them on one hand, 5 days until the Yankees open spring camp, 5.

Gene A said...

Walt Belamy, but the stat frauds detest wins and winning. They believe only their fake stats define the best players. But they do not know right from wrong. It is as simple as 1,2,3, A,B,C, you aren't the best unless you win.

Teena/Bronx said...

Many big names players either agree to contracts and show up for spring training along with their teammates on time or show they only care about how much money they can get. Oh the sorrow of it all, need 30 million dollars a year to live on, and 25 million wouldn't be enough.

HerecomestheJudge said...

Ah, the irony of it all.

Chad Copely said...

Another quiet week on the big FA front with camps opening next week.

Woody/Atlanta said...

Stay the course Chapman. Don't do stupid, leave that to the GM who signs Machado.

Guy Padikian said...

4 days and the Yankees open spring training camp in Tampa, Florida. Several players are already in camp early and working out in preparation for a big time run at the American League East division title, 4.

Linda Pardo said...

Hi diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle, baseball is back. Another season of the greatest game.

yankeelover said...

Andujar, YES. Machado, NO.

YankeeMike said...

Keep in mind all the time this WIN METHOD tenet....It is not how much or how many any individual player attains for himself, but it is when any individual player produces for his team to win that matters the most.

Read the tenet again and again. The think about those words and let it sink in to your heart, soul, and brain. Simply put, a player who produces when it matters most and helps his team win the most is better than a player who has the best individual statistics but does not help his team win. >>>>> And don't blame the other players.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

With spring training just a few day off, there is no reason in the world to sign Machado now for any amount of dollars or years. He has no place on this team to play and would only upset the applecart. He is no one you would want your young players to be around. He will dog it anytime he feels like it. Last, he will not make the Yankees a better team. So it's no, no, no, no, and no.

Dennis Trovato said...

YankeeMike, Hear,hear. Right on.

sid greenberg, nyc, I agree, way pay a guy tons of money to cause trouble and not help the team win, you can get a player like that for pennies on the dollar.

Jen Vitter said...

High hopes for this 2019 Yankee team. With the youngsters blooming and growing, WIN METHOD has found many talented players to build on.

Sammybigdog said...

Jen Vitter, and more young talent on the horizon blooming and growing. The next several seasons will be exciting.

As this final week before spring camps open the top free agents are still twisting in the wind.

Offer Manny league minimum.

3 days, three, until the Yankee spring training camp opens for pitchers and catchers, with all players reporting a few days later, 3 three.

First spring training game is Saturday February 23rd against the bosux. That's less than two weeks away.

The first Yankee spring training game will be more exciting than the super bowl was.

Watch for Clarke Schmidt to make a name for himself this season and open some eyes.

Guy Padikian said...

2 days until Yankee spring training camp opens, 2.

Raul Vasquez said...

The camps open for pitchers and catchers first and then a few days later all other players report. I guess Machado and Harper have another week to decide to sign or show up late.

Cal Fuerst said...

Cashman and Steinbrenner need to hold the fort and fall to the unending pressure from the brain dead to pay too much money for too many years to either Harper or Machado both of which who have not helped their team very much but gaudy individual stats which mean nothing.

Noah Gerber said...

I would love to see Machado sign with the Giants. He and San Francisco are made for each other.

Kurt Holmes said...

Lets not take a step backwards to the afraud debacle era.

Hal Jenks said...

Manny and afraud are best buds. Cheats of a feather flock together.

Guy Padikian said...

1 day, 1 more day baseball fans and the Yankee spring training camp opens. Tomorrow is just a day away, 1. Lets go Yankees.

Zack Norris said...

Holding my breath re Machado. Please don't fall for this loser Mr. Cashman.

Boston/Yankee said...

Lets have a fun winning season. We don't need to have the drama and controversy that comes with Machado. Say never to Machado.

Jill Byrnes said...

But, the stat frauds love Manny. He is a 'generational talent', in their opinion and it would be a cardinal sin to pass over him.

Val Avery said...

Pass him up, pass him up, pass him up, pass him up.

Guy Padikian said...

Yankee spring training camp opens today. We are back in action.

YankeeMike said...

If Machado is not WIN METHOD and if the Yankees do sign Machado, their chances of getting to the WS go down. It is still possible, but other players will have to make up for Machado. It will be the same as when the Yankees signed a non WIN METHOD afraud and he took them down for years until the Yankees signed Matsui, Sabathia, and Teixeira for the 2009 season.

Dag Traweck said...

YankeeMike, And if Machado is WIN METHOD, but I don't think so, Cashman is doing some job on trying to drive the price and years down on him.

Sam Anderson said...

CC Sabathia announced that this 2019 season will be his last. He could retire with a World Series ring if the Yanks don't sign Machado.

Benny Pake said...

2019 spring camps are open and many big name free agents still unsigned.

yankeelover said...

Ellsbury not in camp. Out with an injury. He is consistent. LOL

Lon Klick said...

What an albatros Ellsbury has been. How many injuries can one guy have?

Yanks23245 said...

Next injury is promising Yankee youngster Michael King who has been shut down for the next three weeks after an MRI revealed a stress reaction in his right elbow. He’ll be re-evaluated after that three-week down period. King had a spectacular season in the minors last year moving from A to AA to AAA with a fantastic win record and dominant pitching. Lets hope for the best.

will-i-am said...

Yanks 23245, you beat me, I was just going to post that rotten news. The Yankees will take their time with Michael because they do not need him right now and he would have likely started the season in AAA no matter what. I still would like to see him against MLB hitters in spring training.

Deb F said...

I hope the rest of 2019 doesn't go like this, injury wise.

Noah Gerber said...

Need to keep injuries to a minimum and keep them minor. Looking for 2019 to be a very successful season.

Cory said...

It is reported that Gary Sanchez had a very positive first day at camp. Good news.

Gordon Gecko said...

Real games start in just over a week. Can't wait.

johnny said...

Lets go Yankees.

Vince/Brooklyn said...

I think teams should not give individual player bonuses as salary incentives. That defeats the WIN METHOD philosophy of wins and winning with all players on the team contributing. A bonus to an individual for reaching certain stats only make the player think of himself and his own income and not the teams goal of winning.

Steve said...

Louie Louie and Yanks agree to four year extension deal valued at @ 40 million. Very nice for Yankees and no exorbitant demand from Louie Louie. 1/3 dollars per year than what dirt bag Machado is looking for and Louie Louie is far more valuable.

Yankeeforever said...

I'm glad Louie Louie and the Yankees settled and extended before the arbitration took place. Louie Louie gets great guaranteed money that sets him up for life and the Yankees don't get shafted by overpaying for him. Louie Louie a full throttle WIN METHOD player.

Quigley said...

When you see what Louie Louie signed for you will be able to understand how stupid owners have been in ceding to the demands of players for vast millions of dollars. Maybe the worm has turned and the players won't be getting what has been a gross overpay.

Warren Hammond said...

I won't demean any player for trying to get paid as much as he can get, and in the same breath I won't demean any owner for trying to pay our as little as he can. Let the free market decide.

Gil McKenzie said...

Considering that most teams don't even consider the loser Machado and option, he is then left with only a few teams willing to pay him, and it appears not what HE thinks he is worth. He ain't worth what he is going to get and the team who signs him will regret it.

Dan Reynolds said...

Brian Cashman, please stay away from Machado. Remember the afraud debacle. We can win now and in the next several years. Lets go Yankees.
