WIN METHOD 2017 SEASON - INJURIES - PERSEVERANCE - BLOOM AND GROW

Hello WIN METHOD  fans.  This season, as so many youngsters bloom and grow, has had far too many downs.  To be contending for the division title with all the injuries our players and team have sustained is remarkable and displays the character of our players and team.  We will overcome no matter what is thrown at us.

The 2017 disabled list (DL) has included Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird, Tyler Austin, Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Holiday, CC Sabathia, Adam Warren, Aroldis Chapman, James Kaprielian, Gleyber Torres, Clarke Schmidt, and Dustin Fowler.   Several of these players have had their season ended.   For a few of these men recovery will take many months and they can only look forward to 2018.   The others can still contribute this season.  I just want to give a special shout out to Dustin Fowler whose injury may be the most devastating.   I have had a special liking for Dustin for a long time now and I will pray for his healing, full recovery, and return to the YANKEES in 2018.

It is truly hard to believe, that with all the injuries, this team is still right in the thick of the pennant race.   The character of these WIN METHOD players is their crutch, the attitude they display when challenged with adversity is magnificent.
They play with one goal, for the TEAM to WIN.  Everyone contributes, and they win or lose as a team.   The goal is always the playoffs and beyond, in the past, now, and in the future.   These WIN METHOD men will fight to the end.

With every setback, the door of opportunity opens for another player.   Hopefully another youngster will race through the door and seize the chance before they expected.

As WIN METHOD fans, unquestionably the smartest and most knowledgeable baseball fans in the world, we support or team, ownership, management, players, and coaches.   We don't whine and cry, and we don't criticize and blame.
We leave that to, yes you guessed it, the stat fraud losers of the world.

There is most of the season left to play and we will persevere, playing the best we can.   We will continue to bloom and grow.  The draft was wonderful and the WIN METHOD got what it wanted in several draftees.   Our number one selection will be something to look forward to.  LETS GO YANKEES.

Tomorrows game 3 is scheduled at 7:30PM. Tanaka starts and I hope Yanks win so Louie Louie can get another start to make amends for wild card game.

Steve said...

Girardi today has taken full blame for not challenging HBP miscall last night that cost Yankees the game and a 1-1 tie of the series.

Victor Grandozi said...

I guess it has to be Girardi's fault. He has the final say and all he had to do is ask for the replay. I think call is overturned and the inning is over on the foul tip K.

Warren Hammond said...

People like to throw around the term "must win" in referring to certain games over the course of a season, but tonights game for the Yankees is the first true must win game of the season.

Rain has the possibility of playing a part in tonight's game.

I believe that managers rarely if ever determine the result of games with their decisions because it is the performance of the players on the field that determine the score of each game. I think Girardi's failure to call for a replay in game 2 cost the Yankees the game. What is done is done, hopefully we earn the win tonight and get to play another game.

If anything has been proven by the Yankees this season is that they can play with any team and are as good as any team. Blooming and growing.

There's a heck of a lot of blooming and growing going on in the Bronx. This season isn't done yet, but just wait to next year.

Phil Jenkins said...

In their last 16 innings the Yankees have scored just one run and that was enough to win their biggest game of the season so far. With one run in sixteen innings the team may be do for one of their solid multi run games. Louie Louie gets another chance this season.

Matt Cooper said...

Hopefully the rain moves out and we play tonight. Louie Louie gets a second chance to make a first impression. Yes we can.

The only reliever not available tonight would be Chapman, unless it was maybe for just one batter. Everyone else is ready and all arms are on decks.

Mickey Littlebear said...

So Girardi doesn't call for a review of the HBP. A mistake, no question. But he did not load the bases and then give up the grand slam. You win as a team, you lose as a team. Move on and move forward.

This season gives me a lot of hope for the future, regardless of what happens tomorrow. Combined that with actual talent now here and those on the the horizon capable of dominating, and we could be on the verge of something special for a long time.

Cory said...

A thought on baseball and the season. Over a 162 game season there is no question that the teams who make the playoffs are the best in baseball over the 162 games.

HOWEVER, the teams that won over 100 games are not necessarily better than the teams who won less than 100 games. This can be true for several reasons. One, the uneven schedules each team plays. Two, the quality of each league. Three, the development of any team over the season and/or the falling off of any team over the season.

SECOND HOWEVER, the best team wins in the end.

The Yankees face a left handed starter for the first time in the playoffs this season. If Gardner, Bird, and Gregorius stay in and start, they are three lefty bats. Here is something interesting on two aspects. How stats are manipulated and how bad home plate umpires are.

MLB says umpires get ball/strike calls correct 97% of the time. Independent Pitch/Fx research shows it’s actually 88%. But if you take away the obvious calls (right down the middle or way way out of the zone) and focus on pitches within 2 inches of the plate, either way, accuracy was only 68.3%. That means on close pitches umpires were making the wrong call 31.7% of the time.

Any 12 year old would be as accurate.

Alex Antonius said...

Including the Wild Card game, the Yankees have played in 4 elimination/win or go home games and have come out on top in all of them. Very proud of the way these guys have handled that kind of pressure.
We are one of the best teams in all of baseball and have just started to bloom and grow.

Nathan Riley said...

Cory> I think the problem with the home plate umpire is that they do not stand directly behind home plate but stand at an angle to it. It makes no difference where the catcher sets up or where the catcher catches the ball. The pitch is a ball or strike only depending if it crosses the plate or not and at the proper height depending on each batter. Umpires standing at an angle has to give a very poor perspective of a pitch.
I think that is how umpires are taught and it is patently wrong, but MLB does so much wrong.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Cory & Nathan Riley....when I was a kid the umpire stood directly behind the center of the plate and they wore the big outside chest protector. Somebody changed where they stand and it hasn't worked out for the good. Change is not always better. When you consider the home plate umps today miss a third of their calls, that is pathetic.
