PLAYOFFS 2019 -- THE SECOND SEASON

Here we are WIN METHOD fans.   Despite a season long rash of debilitating injuries to an overwhelming amount of players, our New York YANKEES have won 103 games, won the American League East Championship and have qualified as one of five best teams in the American League.

The YANKEES will host the Minnesota Twins scheduled for Friday, October 4th, at Yankee Stadium in the first game of a best of five series.   The team that wins any of the series in the post season playoffs will be the team whose players produce when it matters most in each game.  Only the best teams with the best players will win and move on to the next series.  All the teams and players who made the playoffs are the best in baseball.  All the other players in baseball are done and are going home to watch the playoffs on television.  Many of the highest paid players in baseball are going home.  They are going home because they are not the best and are only paid because of their high meaningless individual stats.

Speaking of high paid losers going home and not making the playoffs.  How wonderful did it turn out for the YANKEES by not signing either of the 300 million dollar losers, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper.  If the YANKEES had signed either, the YANKEES would not have made the playoffs and their chances in the future would have been seriously compromised.  Even though it can be done it is hard playing around players who contaminate your team.....remember the afraud years.

Lets hope the YANKEES get it all together, body and soul, and produce the most when it counts and go as far into the playoffs as their talents can take them.  No matter how the playoffs turn out, it has been a great season, with next season, and future seasons looking very promising and bright as the YANKEE newcomers bloom and grow.  So here we are, LETS GO YANKEES.

We all know what it takes to win, it is up to the players to do what it takes in each series. Total pressure baseball when every pitch, every at bat, and every play have more meaning than at any other time of the year.

If Paxton has residual effect from his glute tightness that would not bode well for the Yankees. That is a big IF.

For those of you out there who like trivia. Here is a very interesting and unusual piece of baseball trivia.

** In a 1951 baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Braves, an umpire ejected a player arguing with him. The umpire then went on to eject the entire Dodger bench as they kept arguing with him. One of the bench players was Bill Sharman. Bill Sharman was then and still is now the only MLB player to be ejected from a MLB game without ever having played in a MLB game. Bill Sharman's real game was professional basketball. Sharman had a great career as a Boston Celtic player and more. Sharman went on to be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1976 as a player and in 2004 as a coach. **

Randy Holt said...

sid greenberg, I wonder how many people ever have known that about Bill Sharman. Likely more people up in Boston than anywhere. Love oddities like that. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if Boone is communicating to his guys that being aggressive at the plate is fine, but swinging wildly at pitches in the dirt, off the plate by six or more inches, and pitches above your shoulders need to be curtailed big time.

The three AL division winners won 107, 103, and 101 games. The season is six months long with on average 26 games each month. The difference between 107 wins and 101 is just one winning game a month. The difference between 107 and 103 is less and the difference between 103 and 101 is more less. What I am saying is any team whose players step up and produce the most on the biggest stage and under the brightest lights will be the best of the best. There is hardly a difference between each team.

Giambino said...

Can we expect to have Paxton start game one if he is fully healthy?

White Knight said...

You might see combination starters. There are many possibilities. Opener going 1 or 2 innings. One of the four starters going 3,4, or 5? innings. Four or fives top relievers going and inning each, and even a matchup pitcher for 1 or 2 batters. Every reliever can pitcher in every game with the scheduled off days for travel.

Steve said...

The Nationals defeated the Brewers 4-3 last night scoring 3 runs in the 8th inning for the win. A big, when it mattered most, single with the bases loaded that tied the game and on the same play, a big when it mattered most error by the Brewer right fielder to allow the winning run to score. All the individual stats in the world for all players on each team did not make an iota of difference on the outcome of this game.

Kenny Sheperd said...

Steve, no, no, no. Harper won the game for the Nationals last night. He jumped the team for money. So the Nats without him make the playoff and win the wildcard game without him. The team Harper jumped to, the Phillies, who were stupid to pay for Harper, paid the price in his first year with him playing for them. They failed to make the playoffs. Oh yes, it was his teammates fault.

Jackson DeWitt-Iowa said...

White Knight, I think your post is very logical and makes much sense.

Just out...............The Yankees will start James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino, in that order, in the first three games of their American League Division Series against the Twins.

CC Sabathia will not be on the roster, manager Aaron Boone said on Thursday. Boone said the decision had to do with Sabathia's shoulder “not bouncing back.” The veteran left-hander had a cortisone shot last week.

coryankee said...

Here is a way for the stat frauds to maybe understand the WIN METHOD better, while also putting how meaningless individual stats can be.

Over a 3 games series, player 'A' goes 5 for 15. 3 singles and 2 grand slams. The singles are not involved in any runs being scored and each grand slam 1 in game 1 and 1 in game 2 come in the 8th and 9th inning of games your team is leading 11-3 and 8-1 making the scores 15-3 and 12-1. Nice wins. In the same series, player 'B' goes 1 for 15. 'B' went 0-5 in games 1 and 2. He has gone 0-3 in game 3. Your team is down 3-2 in the 6th inning and 'B' finally gets a hit and it is grand slam putting your team up 6-3. 'B' doesn't get a hit in his final at bat of the game and your team goes on to win 8-3.

Who was more important in the series enabling your team to win all 3 games..player 'A' of 'B'?

Hugh Johanson said...

coryankee, great job defining the WIN METHOD. You won't get any stat frauds to respond. If a fraud responds, they will just say that A is better if he hits like that over the season and he will help his team more over the long run and player B just got lucky that one time.

YankeeMike said...

To all you stat frauds out there, please read on.....

.....*1.The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.....*2.Everyone brings something to the table.....*3.Don't criticize what you can't understand.

*Explanation for stat frauds. 1. Winning is more important than individual stats. 2. All players on a team help the team to success of failure. 3. If you are to stupid to comprehend 1 & 2 don' say anything.

Linda Pardo said...

For the three game series, player B had a higher upside in helping his team win than player A.

HerecomestheJudge said...

coryankee, you posted an excellent scenario, albeit maybe an extreme one, but it make the point very well that individual stats for a player is not important as winning and helping your team to the playoffs and more.

Kayla/Queens said...

An off day is really pleasant today. I guess being up 2-0 in a best of five series has something to do with it. Far better than being down 0-2 or even 1-1.

KevMac said...

Louie Louie throws 4 or 5 good innings Monday and with a full 100% bullpen behind him, we could sweep the series in 3 games.

Yanks23245 said...

Silence from the stat frauds. They have no game, the only thing they have is Barbra Streisand.

Deb F said...

Yanks23245, They can't argue fact and common sense. They rather believe in and rely on make up formulas that give false and fake information. Very sad.

Benny Pake said...

I just hope Sanchez gets hot for a couple of weeks. He can make a big difference. Right now he is just a black hole. Very much like afraud in the past.

Alex Antonius said...

Benny, the problem with Sanchez is his bar is so low. When he is off, he tends to be atrocious. He is also very slow afoot which makes him an albatross on the basepaths and a double play waiting to happen. Plus, many of his home runs are hit in meaningless situations. Not all but many. His defense is still pretty poor although he has improved some.

Tony Manchu said...

Will Boone go with the same lineup three games in a row? I would.

Domenic said...

It looks like the Yankees were wise again staying away from Corbin and a multimillion dollar several year deal. Corbin did surely help his team to the playoffs, but it looks as if he may have lost them the NLDS best 3 of 5 playoffs by losing his team 2 of the first 3 games.

Very nice win. Torres is leading the way and we are getting production when it counts offensively and defensively. Turned 3 double plays.

Paxton goes tomorrow. Yes you can.

Another 8PM game tonight which being a Sunday could easily have been scheduled 1,2, or 3 hours earlier. No matter, let's earn another win with production when it counts and playing as a team.

I truly believe (and have seen over 40 years watching Yankee baseball) that strong defense separates good teams from winning teams. To me, that's been the biggest difference in The Yankees this year. That and the ability to get hits, in addition to home runs, move runners over, and producing runs with hits when it counts scoring runs. Without a couple of those good to great defensive plays tonight, this is a different game. We still might have won, but the stress level on the pitchers would have been far greater. Great job by the whole team. Do it again today.

Looking back at WIN METHODS blog posts. He told us so and it started with his first BLOOM AND GROW post on December 6, 2016. How the Yankees would "bloom and grow" into the team it is now, with the players they have now and the many others who are coming for many years into the future. He told us so and he has helped lead the Yankees back to greatness, all with adnomominity. WIN METHOD desires no accolades. However he is the biggest reason for the Yankees success for over 25 years now and continuing. Fans, it is WIN METHODS birthday in a week. Happy birthday WIN METHOD, and thank you for all you have done and this blog, the best in baseball. Don't be mad at me for posting this.

Everyone needs to go back to the original Bloom and Grow post and the continuing blogs by WIN METHOD and you will see just how we got to where we are now. Great stuff from the best baseball talent profiler in the world.
