PLAYOFFS 2019 -- THE SECOND SEASON

Here we are WIN METHOD fans.   Despite a season long rash of debilitating injuries to an overwhelming amount of players, our New York YANKEES have won 103 games, won the American League East Championship and have qualified as one of five best teams in the American League.

The YANKEES will host the Minnesota Twins scheduled for Friday, October 4th, at Yankee Stadium in the first game of a best of five series.   The team that wins any of the series in the post season playoffs will be the team whose players produce when it matters most in each game.  Only the best teams with the best players will win and move on to the next series.  All the teams and players who made the playoffs are the best in baseball.  All the other players in baseball are done and are going home to watch the playoffs on television.  Many of the highest paid players in baseball are going home.  They are going home because they are not the best and are only paid because of their high meaningless individual stats.

Speaking of high paid losers going home and not making the playoffs.  How wonderful did it turn out for the YANKEES by not signing either of the 300 million dollar losers, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper.  If the YANKEES had signed either, the YANKEES would not have made the playoffs and their chances in the future would have been seriously compromised.  Even though it can be done it is hard playing around players who contaminate your team.....remember the afraud years.

Lets hope the YANKEES get it all together, body and soul, and produce the most when it counts and go as far into the playoffs as their talents can take them.  No matter how the playoffs turn out, it has been a great season, with next season, and future seasons looking very promising and bright as the YANKEE newcomers bloom and grow.  So here we are, LETS GO YANKEES.

Controlled aggressive baseball is winning the day. Keep it up Yankees. Keep it up.

You have to play one game at a time, then you make adjustments that the manager feels need to be made and play the next game. One by one.

If we pitch and hit anywhere near as we did yesterday we can win again.

NYY Lineup

D LeMahieu (R) 1B
A Judge (R) RF
G Torres (R) 2B
E Encarnación (R) DH
B Gardner (L) CF
G Sánchez (R) C
G Urshela (R) 3B
C Maybin (R) LF
D Gregorius (L) SS

Interesting, Maybin in LF for Stanton, but not Hicks who would be a lefty bat. Sanchez is so overdue to hit a home run and produce when it counts, tonight maybe?

Nathan Riley said...

Maybe Boone knows something as he moved Sanchez up a notch.

:Larry Holder said...

Should be another great game tonight as the battle of the titans continues.

Vladimir Tinzak said...

When the Yankees play hard and well I can live with losing no matter who beats us. I don't like the lack of hustle by anyone on any team. And I detest players who get paid massive amounts of money for their individual stats yet they do not help their team and do not make their team better.

Yanks23245 said...

Stanton out with a quad injury, but he can pinch hit and or play if necessary.

Deb F said...

The Yankees have played the entire season with a plethora of injuries, why not the postseason also. Next man up. Lets go Yankees.

Green goes two perfect innings. Ottavino in and gives up tying HR on first pitch.

Rahm Mahoud said...

Maybe Ottavino will be gone next season. He has been pretty bad continuously.

Bobby Behan said...

Ottavino gets one out and leaves with two men on as Kahnle comes in to try to get last out and stop any more damage. Kahnle gets the K to end the inning. 2-2 game.

2-2 after 6.

White Knight said...

Kahnle did his job. Britton in for the 8th.

Lou Lis said...

Off day today. 4PM game at Yankee Stadium tomorrow, Louie Louie to start. Need to rebound after last nights loss and take the initiative. Hope Boone benches Sanchez, aka 'meatball'.

Cory said...

We caught a bad break when Gardners hard hit ball ricocheted off of Altuve's glove and instead of rolling into the outfield and scoring LeMahieu it rolled to Correa and he was able to throw out LeMahieu at home. All part of the game. Intangibles?

Henry Orr said...

Sanchez needs to come out of the lineup. He swings wildly at anything, balls bounced in the dirt, six inches high and a foot or two out off the plate. He looks clueless. No more of his nonsense.

Patrick Healy said...

I can see Hicks starting tomorrow if Stanton doesn't. Big left field to cover on a gimpy leg.

Steve said...

Sanchez is a black hole in the lineup. Sanchez is one of those guys who only hits bad pitching, so it's no surprise he looks like a clueless fool in October against better pitching. It's great to kill the Orioles but it means nothing if you become a zero against the better teams.

YankeeMike said...

Patrick Healy, Stanton can DH instead of Encarnacion.

Steve, I agree, and would love to see Romine get a start. Romine cannot do any worse than Sanchez has.

Jill Byrnes said...

Hope Louie Louie can give us five shutout innings.

B Gardner (L) LF
E Encarnación (R) DH
G Torres (R) 2B
D Gregorius (L) SS
G Sánchez (R) C
G Urshela (R) 3B
A Hicks (S) CF

Hicks in CF, Gardner LF, Stanton out. RRLRRLRRL. Romine should be in and Sanchez out.

Sanchez's is so overdue for a big hit, sadly I think his next big hit won't come until spring training next season.

Yankeefan2 said...

Maybe Boone is playing the percentages, Sanchez has to do something positive sometime. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Ralph--Yuma said...

We are likely in store for another great game this afternoon. After October, sports is over until baseball spring training in February. We do have the hot stove however. Much gossip, guesses, and predictions of trades and where free agents may wind up.

johnny said...

Lets go Yankees.

Tony Gigante said...

Louie Louie lets Houston on the board first surrendering a first inning home run.

Xavier Young said...

Louie Louie throws 37 pitches in first inning and leaves the bases loaded as Astros failed to produce at a major time.

YankeeMike said...

Yankees also leave bags full in first.

Neil Golub said...

Louie Louie gives up another solo HR in second to leadoff batter. Down 2-0.

Yanks23245 said...

Yankees leave 2 more men on in 2nd and are now 0-4 when it counts. Trail 2-0.

candycane said...

Yanks down 2-0 after 4.

candycane said...

Yanks down 2-0 after 6.

Ottavino in for the 7th and stinks yet again. Walk and hit & run single and he's out of the game. How awful, this could eliminate the Yankees of having and chance to come back.

Ned Green said...

Torres HR in 8th gets Yankees only run of game. Down 4-1 after 8.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 4-1. Down 2 games to 1 in series. Looks as if Wednesday night game will be rained out. Likely Tanaka will start game 4 on Thursday. Paxton game 5 Friday.

Cory said...

There it is in a nutshell fans, three games played, runs scored Yankees 10 Astros 7, but Yankees down 2 games to 1. It is not how many nor how much, but when that determines who wins and who is best.

Ziggy Mann said...

Cory, you can only become the best by producing when it matters most to win games.

Teena/Bronx said...

Rainy is moving in and when it starts will last into the night.

Woody/Atlanta said...

Didi's bid for three run home run and Yankee lead yesterday was a 1/16th inch difference on the bat. So close but that is sometimes the difference between winning and losing.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Game has not been called yet. Looking at radar and future radar should have already been called, but then again you are dealing the money hungry MLB.

YankeeMike said...

Tonight's game has been postponed.

Fred Slube said...

Boone may likely go with Tanaka and Paxton in games 4 and 5. If Yankees win both they can go back to Houston up 3 games to 2. Yes you can, yes you will.

Stanley Chin said...

We have out-pitched Houston, but Houston's lineup has out-produced our lineup when it mattered most. We turn that around and we win this series.

Slade Dietrich said...

Stanley Chin, don't ever forget that stat frauds don't care if their high individual, high dollar players helps his team wins or not. They have their built in alibi, it was the other players fault.

Victor Grandozi said...

For some reason I am awfully confident the Yankees will win these two games at the Stadium.

Steve said...

Fred Slube, there is no other way to go. You save nothing. Go with the best you have available each game and if the need arises everyone in the bullpen every game. They will have a lot of time to recover over the winter, win or lose. You just can't get eliminated trying to save your best for later which may never come/

Les Melman said...

You don't die with bullets in your gun, nor with an arrow in your quiver, nor with your best arm not used.

Jill Byrnes said...

If we win games 4 and 5 and go to Houston up 3 games to 2, all the pressure is back on Houston.

Robert Mandel said...

The Yankees can and the Yankees will.

Alex Antonius said...

Stay positive guys. Just produce when it counts.

Rajiv Maragh said...

Rain has moved out in NYC. Plenty of time for field to be in perfect shape for tomorrow.

Mickey Littlebear said...

Boone makes out the lineup, in my opinion I think he is trying to catch lightning in a bottle if he continues to play "meatball" instead of Romine.

Oscar Hron said...

Big game tonight. We need a win badly.

Benny Pake said...

Baseball at it's best played by the best is back. Possible four games in four days.

Steve said...

Gary 'meatball' Sanchez is a major problem the Yankees are going to have to deal with, if not now, in the future. The best remedy is to get rid of him. Unfortunately other teams know of his attitude, his lack of hustle, and his failings. The Yankees may have to just let him go if they cannot deal him.

Izy Hernandez said...

Steve, I believe you are right about Sanchez, and I believe his value is not very good.

yankeedoodledandy said...

Anxious to see Yankee lineup for tonight's game, comes out around 5 PM.

Guy Padikian said...

Masahiro Tanaka RHP

NYY Lineup

D LeMahieu (R) 1B
A Judge (R) RF
A Hicks (S) CF
G Torres (R) 2B
E Encarnación (R) DH
B Gardner (L) LF
G Sánchez (R) C
G Urshela (R) 3B
D Gregorius (L) SS

Stanton still out and Sanchez still in doesn't help.

yankeedoodledandy said...

Stanton out you have to live with. Don't mind lineup except if Boone is going to play Sanchez he should be batting behind Urshela. I also think Romine should be in lineup.

Luigi/Italy said...

Come on guys, put it all together and make this series go back to Houston.

Erica Johnston said...

Lets go Yankees. Time to shine.

Stache Colinski said...

Lets go Yankees.

yankeedoodledandy said...

Greinke unintentionally intentionally walks Gardner on four pitches with the bases loaded giving up a run and then strikes out 'MEATBALL' on three pitches for the third out as 'MEATBALL' fails yet again leaving three men on base. He should not be playing. 1-0 Yankees.

candycane said...

Yanks up 1-0 after 2.

will-i-am said...

Astros score 3 in 3rd producing when it counts as Yankees continue to fail when it counts.

candycane said...

Yanks down 3-1 after 4.

Stan the Man said...

Yankees load bases in fifth with one out. Torres strikes out for 2nd out. Encarnacion strikes out and another total failure for Yankees not producing when it counts. Still trail 3-1.

Deb F said...

Astro sixth put 2 men on and deliver big 3 run HR for a 6-1 lead and likely take the air out of the Yankees. That is all baseball is and the WIN METHOD defines winning baseball and not with meaningless individual stats or more than meaningless man made convoluted fake formulas, but by wins. Wins and winning are what defines what players and teams are the best.

Jimmy Thames said...

Yankees down 6-3 after seven. As Michael Kay would say, 'do the Yankees have a rally in their bones'?

candycane said...

Yanks down 7-3 after 8.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 8-3. It looks as if they through in the towel over the last few innings.

johnsondc said...

The Yankees have played themselves into must win games for the rest of this series. Not producing when it counts is on their shoulders. Opposingly the Astros are in the position they are in because they did produce when it mattered and now only need one more win to eliminate the Yankees and move on to the World Series.

Dave Mathews said...

Paxton tonight. Will we live to play another day? Lets go Yankees.

Eddie OConnor said...

I was disappointed in the Yankees sloppy play last night.

Slyoldfox said...

I will not be happy if the Yankees have thrown in the towel and play like it tonight. Nothing wrong with losing if you try your best, but it is a disgrace and an embarrassment when you don't try your best.

G Torres (R) 2B
G Stanton (R) DH
A Hicks (S) CF
G Sánchez (R) C
D Gregorius (L) SS
G Urshela (R) 3B
B Gardner (L) LF

Stanton in at DH. is still in the lineup. It is win or go home time.

Sal Mineo said...

Slyoldfox, if the Yankees don't give full effort, that has to fall on Boone. Plus, I have no problem with calling out Boone for playing "meatball" Sanchez all these games. He is a black hole ala afraud.

Hal Jenks said...

Keep our October baseball going guys. Do it for WIN METHOD.

Ian Collins said...

Here we go, move on or go home.

Hobbs said...

Meatball gives a run away in first because of his rotten defense. Yanks down 1-0 coming to bat.

Jackson DeWitt-Iowa said...

Yankee first. LeMahieu HR makes it 1-1. Judge single. Torres double for men on 2nd and 3rd.
Stanton K's, 2nd & 3rd, one out. (Failure when it counts). Hicks 3 run HR for 4-1 lead WHEN IT COUNTS. Meatball putridly K's. Two out. Didi pop out. Yanks lead 4-1 after one inning.

Stan the Man said...

Yankees score 4 in first. LeMahieu HR and Hicks 3 run HR. Now that's a good start. 4-1.

Yanks23245 said...

I wish we would add on a run or two. I've scene this scenario at times. You fail to put a team away and they edge you out in the end. Come on guys.

Gus Papa said...

Paxton has gone five solid innings. Can he get a sixth. Another run or two would help ease my anxiety.

NJYANKEE said...

Verlander has settled down and keeping the Yankees off the board and even off the bases. Yankees 5-1 after 5.

Paxton goes six innings of one run ball and leaves putting Yankees on the cusp of a win.

Jill Byrnes said...

Come on guys, put a run on the board.

Jackson DeWitt-Iowa said...

Yankees sixth. Torres pops up for infield out. Stanton strikes out, two out. Hicks strikes out. Three up three down. The Yankees haven't touched Verlander since the first inning.

candycane said...

Yanks up 4-1 after 6.

Saul Irving said...

Paxton didn't throw in the towel, he pitched a gem and has given us a chance.

Carl Hooks said...

Meatball has been pathetic, hasn't put the ball in play all night, striking out three times.

Wallyworld said...

Still 4-1 thru seven. Two more innings of edge of your seat baseball.

yankeelover said...

Britton throws a scoreless 1,2,3 8th. Chapman will be in for the 9th.

Yankees go down 1,2,3 in eighth. We need 3 outs and then head to Houston for another must win game.

candycane said...

Yanks up 4-1 after 8.

Cal Fuerst said...

Chapman with a perfect ninth. Yankees win 4-1 and we get more baseball.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 4-1. Paxton and Hicks the heroes.

Cory said...

When it counts production. Houston none. Yankees once. Yankees win.

Jamaica Joe said...

Who will pitch tomorrow?

Mark Wagoner said...

The biggest hurt the Yankees suffered going into the postseason was the loss of German.

Lloyd Fuller said...

For the Yankees to win tonight they will have to patch together a bullpen game with several pitchers and hopefully do a better job in scoring runs and not in just one inning.

Norm Jackson said...

Please don't use Ottavino again. He and meatball are a nightmare.

Yankeefan2 said...

Likely Boone will lead with Green tonight, but you never know.

Karl R said...

We have the best backup catcher in baseball that would be a starter on many teams, but we don't even give him a game in the playoffs? Do it tonight and dump the meatball.

Glen Corbet said...

There is no way Romine would not be an improvement over the meatball. Romine does make contact and puts the ball in play at a very much higher rate.

Somebody always has to lose and it is never a good feeling to lose. Be proud of what the Yankees accomplished this season, the best is yet to come as we bloom and grow.

I will be rooting for the Houston Astros in their final series of the season.

The players did their best and after every injury someone stepped up and the team kept winning and moving forward. What irks me is German being banned from playing baseball because of an awful act he presumably and likely committed that had nothing to do with baseball. That is a bigger stain on MLB than on German, and it is a big stain on German.

Linda Pardo said...

Coryankee, Hear hear. MLB's decision was not based on right or wrong, but was based on a "politically correct" philosophy which desires to eliminate free speech and law and order. My husband strikes me, I will deal with it appropriately, and I do not want his boss involved in any way shape or form. If anyone doesn't like it, to bad.

Norm Jackson said...

YankeeMike, we can hope, but the Yankees have several starters on the cusp that may be ready for the major leagues.

YankeeMike said...

Frank Sergi, True, but CC gone opens one spot, and if one or two of the minor leaguers proves themselves and wins a position in the spring you just upgrade and move what you now have in some kind of deal. It can be done, we have the players and we have the money.

RLA said...

Altuve is an absolute real great in every way possible. You know what else he always does, runs EVERYTHING out of the box all the time, ala Jeter, it's a joy to watch honestly. I do not accept any player not hustling on every batted ball all the time.

Reflections....The Yankees made the playoffs. Played two over 100 win teams and 9 games and finished 5-4, yet were eliminated. Baseball is a funny game and the best sport in existence. No billy goats, no heroes, you win or lose as a team.
The Yankees lost the series for many reasons (or is it excuses). Our best 2019 regular season starter was disqualified from the playoffs. We failed to produce when it mattered most, which is always the biggest reason. Failing to produce is usually a direct result of the other team producing when it counts. Houston did produce when it mattered, both offensively and defensively. The Yankees could have won this series if a ball would have fallen in for a hit instead of a great catch being made taking the hit away. But that happens when the best is playing the best. Only one team can win. 2019 is over and 2020 will be here before you know it. I have a wonderful feeling that 2020 will be a great year for the Yankees and a year they return to and winning the World Series. So let's enjoy the off season, the hot stove, and spring training. As always, LETS GO YANKEES.

Allow me to describe the stat fraud fake man made convoluted formula WAR. WAR is designed to try to tell you what a players value is compared to a fictional non-existent player. That is all you really need to know. Wait, there is more. WAR weighs every hit by every player equally, WAR weighs every opponent and when each event equally. Spoiler, stat frauds, every hit and every event is not equal. So, any use of WAR is meaningless.
