Winter is over, the hot stove is off. Spring training games are finished, now the season begins. Over the next 162 games the ten best teams will go on to the playoffs. This is the time when producing when it counts matters most and over the next 162 games the best players in the game will go to the playoffs. Wins and winning is all that matters and only wins and winning will get the best players and the best teams to the playoffs.
The NEW YORK YANKEES completed a banner off season obtaining several players who will play for the team to win and who know that winning as a team and doing all the little things that can help the team win is what matters most in the end. Paxton, Happ, Britton, Tulowitzki, Lemahieu, Voit, and others know that only wins, and not individual stats, are what gets a team to the playoffs. The YANKEE hierarchy was brilliant by not signing either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper to ten and thirteen year contracts for the amount of money each is getting that neither player is worth, and would have crippled the YANKEES for the decade ahead. Look for the YANKEES to win more World Series than the Padres and Phillies combined over the next decade.
With the blossoming of the YANKEES own core of youngsters who have bloomed and are now growing in the major leagues at the nucleus of this 2019 team, the YANKEES are set to recapture the division title in the American League East. The YANKEES will start this season with a handful of key players on the disabled list (DL), however the YANKEES as every other team will have to play the hand they are dealt and overcome obstacles put in front of them. Yes, the YANKEES can and the YANKEES will.
What is most promising is the future ahead. The YANKEES have been able to obtain many WIN METHOD youngsters with a bright future and an unlimited ceiling. Keep an eye out for Estevan Florial who has the tools to be the YANKEE center fielder of the future. There are also several starting pitchers in the minors that will step forward to be major league impact starters for the YANKEES.
Thank you, to all the readers and posters of the WIN METHOD blog. You all have contributed to this blog surpassing 548 million views and you all have made this baseball blog the best in the world.
The season starts in a couple of days and a great season it will be for the YANKEES. Thank you all again for you support, your comments, and your opinions. All of which are posted with intelligence and wisdom far beyond any other site, blog, or forum in existence. LETS GO YANKEES.

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 600 of 1371 Newer› Newest»Yankees take early 2-0 lead thru 2 innings.
4-1 Yankees after 5. Ford 2 run homer.
Yanks up 4-1 after 6.
Chad Green does it again. With the Yankees up 7-1 Green pitches the 8th inning, single, single, walk, grand slam and he puts Angels right back in the game 7-5. Cessa comes in to close out the inning. 7-5 Yanks going to the 9th.
Britton closes a 7-5 win and earns the save.
Final. Yankees win 7-5. Everything great but for the one disaster of Greens relief.
Good start to this road trip. CC starts tomorrow. Bullpen for the most poart got day off. Everyone could have been off if Green would have done his job.
Chad Green needs some time in AAA to straighten himself out. If he has lost the hop/movement on his fastball he may be a lost cause for the time being.
Up for discussion: If a pitcher starts a game and pitches six innings and gives up 3 runs or less it is called a quality start. I have no problem with that since it is based on fact and is not a fake formula. My thought is that a starting pitcher must pitch five innings to earn a win. I therefore think that a five inning stat of allowing 2 runs or less is also a quality start.
Juan Pablo Garcia, I might add that allowing one run over five innings is even better than three runs over six inning. I take no issue with any of numbers posted by us being called a quality start.
Juan, Anthony, ... Using 'quality starts' as some sort of guide is ok I guess. But, the goal is to win the game, not how many runs you allow or don't allow. I'll throw this question back at you. Which pitchers would start would you rather have, the one who gave up 1 run over 5 innings or the one who gave up 3 runs over 6 innings?
Steve, I want the pitcher who earns the win, be it in either game or both. And if either pitcher didn't earn the win, the pitcher or both whose team won the game. It always comes back to wins and winning and that is accomplished with the contribution(s) of every player on the team. In essence quality starts is just another relatively meaningless stat.
Look at it this way. Every start that a pitcher goes five innings and does not earn a decision can be considered a quality start. He kept his team in the game no matter how many runs he did or did not allow. The win or loss is then passed on to the bullpen.
I don't think anyone here would argue against the lower runs a pitcher allows the better it is for his team. But, BUT, if the opposing pitcher allows just two runs, the only way your pitcher does his job for your team is to also allow two runs or less. If the opposing pitcher allows eight runs, your pitcher can allow seven runs and you win the game.
Conclusion, the win is what matters, ERA is just an average over time and has nowhere near the value as a win.
How about this for ERA. Last night Chad Green pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up 4 runs. His ERA for the game was 108.00. The 4 runs he allowed did not cost his team the game. He did not pitch well at all. He did force his team to use another pitcher. Greens ERA is meaningless.
I always look for my starter to give up as few runs as possible. That is common sense. But as Warren Hammond said, if my team scores a lot of runs, I don't feel bad if my pitchers allows runs as long as he allows less than the opposition.
Higashioka and Green sent to AAA. Tarpley back up and Sanchez reactivated from the DL.
We can talk about any stat and every one is not as important and or as telling as WINS. WIN METHOD has it right and has been on the cutting edge of baseball evaluation for decades now.
Greg Mickelson, you called it. Green was sent to AAA.
I guess Sanchez will be in at catcher tonight. He had his normal allotment of passed balls in his rehab game last night. Two in five innings and went 0-3 at the plate. He is due for a good game. Maybe tonight?

Frazier out again. Sanchez back. Four lefty bats.
Give us more shutout innings CC. Sanchez, wake up.
Frazier not in game because ankle may be worse that first thought. Awaiting MRI results.
Stanton bicep ok, but now shoulder is bothering him. Overcompensation by him maybe.
Yankees down 5-0 after four and have no hits.
Yankees fight back with 2 in 6th and 3 in 7th for 5-5 tie after 7.
Sanchez is back. Strike outs four times so far tonight. And an error costing a run.
If Sanchez doesn't hit the ball he doesn't have to run so he won't strain his calf again. Look at the bright side.
LeMahieu's 3rd RBI on the night gives Yanks 6-5 lead in the 9th. Chapman coming in for the save try.
Final. Yankees win 6-5. DJ Lemahieu leads the way. Loaisiga with three shutout innings gets the win, Chapman gets the save.
**To me Chapman does not look right. There may be something wrong with him.
Down 5-0 after 5, I didn't think we would win, but I never give up hope and saw a gritty come from behind win. Great WIN METHOD baseball. Many contributors again, except for Sanchez.
Nice win.
Tanaka starts tonight's game. A win means a four game sweep of this opening series of the western swing. Lets go Yankees. Please don't bat Sanchez in the middle of the lineup.
The best thing the Yankees did this off season was listen to WIN METHOD when he said LeMahieu over Machado. LeMahieu over Machado every day and day all the time. Better defender, and at multiple positions, better hitter, better teammate, better person.
There is far more to baseball than individual stats. Players are people, and they each have different goals and desires. They each come from different parts of the US and different parts of the world meaning they have different cultures. Tapping into the players who want to win more than anything, yes while still getting paid, is the secret to building a winning team. WIN METHOD found that out decades ago and others are now trying to follow. But they pale in comparison to the best talent evaluator in the world.
The MRI on Frazier showed a small tear and he has been placed on the DL. Should be back after the ten day period.
We did not get the "quality start' from CC last night, but the lineup stepped up and came back from 5 down in the last four innings to win the game. Nice to see, and without Sanchez's useless four K's at bats swinging as hard as he can. He actually struck out on a pitch that was closer to his head than the strike zone. He has ability, but he seems to be a head case that may need an intervention.
The Yankees just acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Indians to cover the shortage of outfielder depth right now. The Yanks had no spare outfielder on the team do to all the injuries. Just a fill in until some bodies get back from the DL. Only cost dollars, no other players involved.
Maybin will step up his game now that he is a Yankee.
Kudos to all the minor leaguers who have stepped up and forward in helping to keep this 2019 Yankee team alive until the big guns come off the DL.
Not only is DJ Lemahieu a better player than Manny the mooch, but he is only a fraction of the cost. Win win for the Yankees.
Every win is a feather in the cap for the Yankees. For each and every player that is contributing to the Yankee wins, to the owners, the management, the coaches, the manager and the fans who do not second guess every move by this organization.

How far will Sanchez stretch his K streak. Lets go guys, carry Sanchez another game. Reverse the curse of Sanchez by being negative on him.
Time for another 'quality start".
Sanchez flails away again in first at bat striking out for the fifth consecutive time since coming back off the DL.
Yanks up 2-0 after 4.
Tanaka surrenders two 2 run home runs in 5th giving up the 4 run lead the Yankees built for him. 4-4 thru 5.
Tanaka gives up 2 more runs in 6th putting Yanks down 6-4 after 6.
Tanaka let us down last night.
Paxton starts game one of a three game series with the Giants tonight. 10:15 PM start time.
3 of 4 to start road trip is very acceptable. Now if we can win 2 of 3 this weekend it will be another great series win for phase two of the western trip.
The Giants are throwing their ace in Baumgarner tonight. Should be a good game.

I detest national league no designated hitter baseball. They are playing in the dark ages.
Lets go Yankees.
Yanks up 3-1 after 4.
It's nice seeing Romine behind the plate tonight. No wild swings and makes contact. No passed balls either.
Paxton with another decent start. Goes 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs.
5-3 Yankees after 8 and our bullpen is not making it easy. Four walks in the last two innings.
Hopefully Voit ices game with 2 run HR in 9th for a 7-3 lead.
Final. Yankees win 7-3. Take game one of three game series.
Happ today to try to keep the wins coming.
In baseball wins for a team are achieved by all players contributing in their own unique ways offensively and defensively. Paying millions upon millions of dollars a year to players like Machado and Harper are totally unnecessary, a waste of money, and can hurt a team for many years. Maybin, in his first at bat as a Yankee delivers an RBI single in the first inning contributing to building runs and a lead to win the game. Let's go guys, keep it going.
Producing when it counts more often makes winning easier. That is what many guys are doing right now. Not swinging for the seats every at bat, but just making contact and getting the single with men in scoring position. That is path to winning the most. There is no hero, there are heroes.
Would love to see Sanchez come alive with 2 or 3 hits today.

About what the lineup should be against a lefty starter. Lets go guys. Play WIN METHOD baseball.
Luke Voit and DJ Lemahieu are two of the finest gets by the Yankees and they are magnified by the two best stay away froms in Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. The cost difference is unbelievable in itself.
4-1 road trip to the wrong side of the country with 4 games to be played.
Yankees lead 1-0 after three.
Sanchez first two at bats he has seen six pitches, all strikes = 2 K's.
Final. Yankees win 6-4. Positives: 7 shutout innings from Happ. Sanchez with a grand slam upping Yankee lead to 6-0. Negatives: Cessa can't close it out a;;pwing 4 runs in the 9th on 2 HR's and forcing the Yankees to use Chapman to get the final out and the save.
It was nice to see Sanchez finally produce.
German starts tomorrow with a chance to sweep this series.
Maybe was setting up Holland in his first two at bats and just waiting for men on base before he made contact.
Domenic, That's funny. Tomorrow is another day.

Playing for a three game series sweep today. Lets go Yankees.
Yankees take early 4-0 lead thru 2 and the best at bat was in the 2nd when with 2 out and men on 2nd and 3rd Voit went against the shift with a hard hit ground ball for a 2 RBI single. Another big hit when it mattered and not swinging wildly for the seats.
Yanks up 4-0 after 2.
Leading 8-0 in the 6th German allows 4 meaningless runs and the Yankees lead 8-4 after 6. Ah, the ERA goes up which means nothing and the wins go up which means everything.
Eight innings complete 8-4 Yanks. Three more outs for a sweep of the Giants.
Final. Yankees win 11-5. Sweep Giants and are 6-1 on western swing with two games yet to be played in.
Love beating the Jints. That was the Giants nickname back when they were in New York. I hated the Giants and still do.
Off day tomorrow. Lemahieu and Urshela MRI's both negative. Let's go Yankees.
Sabathia and Tanaka to start the final two game of the road trip in Arizona.
The Yankee team has an off day today as they awake in sunny Arizona. Golf, sightsee, swimming pool, relax, great meal. Have fun guys.
After their last start, CC and Tanaka may come back with top effort in Arizona. That would be nice.
Two more games to play in this ten game set, and no matter what the outcome this set will be the best so far for the season.

Yanks head home, off day tomorrow, host three game weekend series with the Twins, Paxton, Happ, German slated starters. Maybe get some of the wounded back.
We could have won either game in Arizona. The difference, like always, is hitting when it matters. We didn't when we had the best opportunities, so we lost.
Considering all the injuries, this Yankee team is holding its own very well and is positioned to make a run when the injured start to return one by one.
Stanton may be back this weekend.
Lets start the homestand on a high and sweep the Twinkies.
Starting tomorrow the Yankee play 13 straight game, an off day and then 17 straight games. In other words over the next 31 days they play 30 games. At the end of this stretch we will all know a lot more about this team and this season.

As rain starts to move in again Yanks get a 2 run HR from Tauchman for a 4-1 lead thru 4. Three more outs and it's an official game.
4-1 Yankees thru 6. German came up big again. Looking to be one of the best pitchers in baseball as he continues to bloom and grow.
Torrential rain at the Stadium in the eighth inning and the umpires are letting the game continue. The field is an atrocious shape, the ball is sopping wet, and the players are in danger. MLB is being run by the worst commissioner in its history. Also, the umpires are getting dumber and dumber.
Umpires cover field with no outs in bottom of 8th and Twins pitcher missing the strike zone by 10 feet, yes 10 feet. Game in delay, as the gutless ignorant umpires under the direction of MLB twiddle their thumbs and wait. At least the Yankees are home and do not have to travel as the twins do to play tomorrow.
Umps finally give in and or up. Game called. Final. Yankees win 4-1 and take series from the Twins who had the best record in baseball when they came to visit Yankees.
Next visitor is the the Seattle Mariners for four night games, Monday thru Thursday. We lose Paxton for a few starts. Loaisiga likely fill in.
The Yankees CC Sabathia starts tonights first game of a four game series against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium tonight.
As each of our injured returns to the team someone will have to be removed from the roster.
Clint Frazier back on the 25 man roster and is eligible for tonight's game. Steven Tarpley sent back down to minors.

LeMahieu double followed by Voit homer puts Yanks up 2-0 after one.
Yanks up 7-2 after 4.
Final. Yankees win 7-3. The Yankees pounded the dancing queen for all 7 of their runs, CC Sabathia went five innings allowing 3 runs for the win and the bullpen closed out the last four scoreless innings to take game one of this four game series.
Tanaka starts tomorrow night and he is very overdo to pitch a really good game and earn a win.
It is nice to see so many players contributing to the wins and the return of some off the DL.
If any pitcher throws a pitch that is a mistake, it is easier for any batter to hit a mistake thrown at 90 MPH than one thrown at 95 MPH.
coryankee, yes, Tanaka needs to get on track and give the team several 'ace' starts in a row. I think sometimes he tries to get to cute and the batters lay off the balls that never look like a strike and he puts himself in trouble. Throw strike gosh darn it.
The "dancing queen" is yet another example of why you do not give massive long term contracts to players. The team almost always gets the short end of the deal.

1-1 afer 5.
Yanks down 2-1 afer 6.

Back in action. Yankees trail 2-1 thru 7.
Yankees come back, all the way back in last of he ninth. Two run home run by Urshela ties game, then walk off RBI single by LeMahieu wins it 5-4.
Final. Yankees win 5-4 with 3 runs in 9th inning. 2 on HR by Urshela and walk off RBI single by LeMahieu. Yankees were never in front in this game until the last pitch.
Producing when it counts is what matters and tonight the Yankees won a game that maybe the shouldn't have had. But they produced when it mattered most and walked off with a win.
Very nice win last night. That is why baseball is the greatest sport in the world. Nine innings, 27 outs, and no game is over until it's over. Yogi Berra was a very smart man and the greatest catcher in baseball history. His wins prove that beyond a doubt. Sorry Bill James, but you are an idiot, catering to idiots, and only icolized by idiots.
With Paxton on the DL, Loaisiga will start tonights game for he Yankees. Lets do it again.
There is nothing so sweet than a walkoff hit that wins a game and nothing so meaningless as a late inning home run in a game that you are winning by double digits.
Think about this WIN METHOD fans. If the Yankees signed Machado, they would be a sub .500 team and we may never had given Urshela a chance to play with the big team. We now have a least two third basemen better than Machado.
Tonight's lineup might be same as last nights.

Final. Yankees lose 10-1. If you cannot accept a loss, his was a good loss. Never in it.
will-i-am, When your starter who was brought up from the minors gets hammered early, and the opposing teams starter has his best game of the season and gives your lineup nothing, that is a good loss. Nothing we could have done would have made a difference last night.
