The conclusion to the regular 162 game 2018 season is coming fast. Ten teams will make the playoffs and the other twenty teams will conclude their season, go home, and watch the ten best teams in Major League Baseball play in the playoffs and try to win their way to the World Series.
The ten teams that reach the playoffs will do so by achieving WINS, with each division winner making the playoffs and then the next two teams in each league who have the most WINS but who did not win any division going to the playoffs. Five teams in each league. The three division winners and the next two teams with the most wins in the league as wild cards.
With just about fifty games to be played in the regular season it appears the YANKEES will not win their division and will have to settle for a wild card position as they did last season. Last season the YANKEES rode their playoff spot to within one game (one more WIN) of reaching the World Series.
Nothing but wins and winning determines the best players and teams, no other stat of any kind for hitters or pitchers make any difference. Who each team plays in the playoffs are only determined by WINS. And advancing each round are only determined by WINS. Nothing else matters, but WINS.
I would like to mention my observations on this 2018 YANKEE team so far this season. I will not go into injuries because every team has injuries to varying degrees and I find that injuries are part of the game, a part that every team must deal with and overcome to be the best. The aspect I will talk about is the very distinct lack of hustle, urgency, and even desire I have seen from some players and management. Jogging down to first base on grounders, not running hard on fly balls and or popups is unacceptable at anytime within the confines of other runners on base. Hitting a fly ball that you think is going over the fence and would be a home run and jogging down the line only to watch the ball bounce between fielders or off the wall and instead of maybe getting a triple settling for a double. Any time these events occur and are not addressed by the manager and they continue time and time again a distinct lack of leadership and control is evident. This attitude and their acceptance must be corrected immediately by all involved. I have seen and heard from many fans who see what is happening and have voiced their dismay in this blog over and over. I have been around baseball for sixty years and have never seen this from a YANKEE team. WIN METHOD fans deserve better as all YANKEE fans should.
LETS GO YANKEES !!!

Final Yankees win 5-1. THREE
Yankee have a chance for a four game sweep of this O's series with Louie Louie on the mound tomorrow.
Sad to remind everyone that tomorrows game is the disgusting espn network Sunday night game at 8PM. This game should be banned and MLB is an embarrassment letting it happen year after year. All the dirtbags want is the money and they don't give a rats rear end about the fans.
The only thing I do for my self satisfaction is never buy products from any of the sponsors of the Sunday night game.
Yankeeforever
That was incredibly overdramatic.
Let's sweep. Bring your broom.
I hate ESPN. There is not one talking head on that network worth listening to.
I only watch espn for a live game a may want to see. All their other programming is garbage.
I am glad to see the Yankees giving Louie Louie extra time between starts. I think that is all he may need to finish out the season strong. Next season he could be even better.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Yankees go with a six man rotation for the rest of the season and skipping the odd man over off days.
Anyone have any thoughts on what the Yankees will do regarding Greg Bird and his very dismal season offensively and defensively?
Yanks23245, I know you know that no one here has any inside info regarding Bird, but I get the impression he is failing and unless there is a fixable reason he may be done. How the Yankees handle the situation should be interesting. They have many options including free agency.
Guys, How about if Harper wants to play for the Yankees and he will come for a reasonable AAV, the Yankees could convert any of Harper, Judge, Stanton to first base. The best reason I can give for getting Harper is he is left handed which would play big in the Stadium alternation Gardner, Judge, Harper, Stanton, Didi, Andujar, Hicks, Sanchez, Torres. That is one heck of a scarry lineup.
I don't Cashman is stupid enough to do this and I would never do it, but Manny 'the mooch' Machado at third and Andujar to first. Don't need 'the mooch' as a right handed bat.

6. Gleyber Torres (R) SS
7. Luke Voit (R) 1B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Shane Robinson (R) LF
Bird out again as well he should be. Hicks gets to DH.
The only logical, in my mind, choice is Harper. Also Happ and or Lynn depending on asking price. Don't forget we have Loasiga, German, Sheffield, amongst others. Watch for a sleeper named Michael King.
I wouldn't move Andujar from third base for anyone. Judge, Stanton, Harper all are athletic enough to play first base. Judge and Stanton would be some targets to throw to. A lot would depend on what the Yankees and or WIN METHOD know about Harper. The Yankees made one major blunder when they signed the lying cheating dreg afraud against WIN METHODS advice.
Lets not screw up this series and weekend guys. Take another and head home.
Tanaka, Lynn, and CC listed for the White Sox series at the Stadium starting tomorrow night. Lets finish off this series with a sweep first.
Three complete, 4-0 Yankees. Louie Louie not sharp and struggling.
Yankees lead 4-1 thru 5. A couple of add-on runs would be nice.
Yanks hanging by their fingernails. Lead 5-3 after six. Louie Louie with a lousy start considering who he is pitching against. Goes 5 2/3 allowing 3 runs keeping the Orioles in the game.
Still 5-3 Yanks thru 8. One more inning.
We need this win. We need every win. Still up 5-3 after 8.
Final Yankees win 5-3. FOUR
Robertson works the ninth for the save as Yankees win 5-3 to sweep the Orioles.
1- 10 5-5
11- 20 6-4 = 11-9
21- 30 9-1 = 20-10
31- 40 8-2 = 28-12
41- 50 5-5 = 33-17
51- 60 9-1 = 42-18
61- 70 6-4 = 48-22
71- 80 5-5 = 53-27
81- 90 6-4 = 59-31
91-100 5-5 = 64-36
101-110 4-6 = 68-42
111-120 7-3 = 75-45
121-130 8-2 = 83-47
How about that, and 8-2 set right after a 7-3 set. That is .750 baseball over the past 20 games. Let's see if the Yanks can put up another strong 10 game set.
That 50 game stretch from games 61 thru 110 was 26-24 and hurt our record bad. However, you can say how good we are and can be when you look at the record of the other 80 games. 57-23.
I don't have enough knowledge to opine on what the Yankees should of shouldn't do for next season. I just hope they put the best team possible on the field and the players then live up to the expectations the powers that be have for them.
Let's hope Tanaka keeps the winning going.

Lynn to try to even this series tonight.
This team needs someone like Jeter to lead them. Someone with a purpose to try to win every game by playing as a team and not playing for your own stats and trying to outdo teammates.

Come back win today after being down 4-0. One hit thru the first five innings.
CC tomorrow for a chance to win series.
We needed a win like this to stoke the embers and start a firestorm of winning.
Build on the excitement guys. Win tonight and take another series.
It's always fun when you win.
CC was really good last start. The rest on the DL may have have helped him. Get another win tonight and keep moving forward.
Looking forward, tomorrow through Sunday, four home games with the Tigers. Like to take that series.
Sanchez and Didi look like they will be back this weekend and just in time to be in the lineup for the western swing.
First time poster. What a wonderful blog. I like the positiveness.

Welcome Pedro. Keep posting your views and thoughts.
Score first and often.
Very hot and humid in NYC today. CC weather. Loosens those old bones. And I'm speaking from experience.
Yankees in 3-0 hole after four.
Yanks get one in fifth, but Torres makes final out at home failing to score on wild pitch. Still down 3-1 after 5.
Yankees trailing 4-1 after 7, do they have another comeback in them.
Final. Yankees lose 4-1. First time Yankees lost a series to White Sox in NY since 2005.
This team has had some serious ups and downs this season.
After the loss of the Sox series we really need to at least the Tiger series and better yet sweep them.
Happ, Louie Louie, Tanaka, and Lynn set for the Tiger four game series starting tonight.
Have to win at least three games this weekend.
Thursday 8/30 7:05pm
J.A. Happ (L)

Gardner only lefty bat in lineup and batting 9th.
Yanks down 1-0 after 2.
Stanton's 300th career home run in third puts Yankees up 2-1.
Yanks up 4-3after 4.
5-5 after 6.
Betances blows game in 9th giving up 3 runs. Yanks lose 8-7.
Final Yankees lose 8-7.
A very lous loss last night. Epic closer fail.
1-3 on a 7 game home stand against lesser teams. Running out of excuses.
The Yanks now must win the next three games to have a winning home stand.

6. Gleyber Torres (R) SS
7. Neil Walker (S) RF
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
No Bird against right handed pitcher. We need to win three games from the Tigers. We put ourselves in the hole with too many failures offensively and defensively at the wrong times.
Yankees score 4 in 6th to take 4-3 lead.
Blog feels dead.
Remember when you dopes were complaining about Torres? Silly.
Yankees come from behind again with 3 in 8th for a 7-5 lead. Can they hold tonight.
The Yankees have obtained Andrew McCutchen from the SF Giants. Could it mean Judge possibly done for season?
Robertson saves it.
Final Yanks win 7-5. ONE
Tanaka tomorrow and we need the win.
Saturday 9/1 4:05pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
vs. Tigers - Daniel Norris (L)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Gleyber Torres (R) SS
7. Luke Voit (R) 1B
8. Neil Walker (S) 2B
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
McCutchen in RF for first Yankee appearance. Eight right handed bats. Gardner in 9 hole as only lefty bat today.
First Yankee hit of game in fifth inning, a 2 run home run by Torres gives Yankees 2-1 lead after five innings.
Yankees lead 2-1 after 7. Tanaka went a very strong seven but we ain't hitting, and worse we ain't scoring.
Betances in for the save try as Yankees cling to a 2-1 lead after 8.
Final, Yankees win 2-1 with just two hits. TWO
Out hit 9-2 but won the game. Ah, how meaningless stats are. Wins are what matters and the only thing that counts.
We win or lose this homestand tomorrow behind Lynn.
Alex Antonius....McCutchen is a good addition. I agree with you that the Yankees may not want to risk Judge's career just to get him back for this season. Bones in the wrist of hitters have to be fully healed or risk disaster.
We have a pretty solid lineup again. Sanchez is back, Didi likely any day again. Judge may be done for this season. Better safe than sorry.
Sunday 9/2 1:05pm
Lance Lynn (R)
vs. Tigers - Matthew Boyd (L)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
3. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
4. Gary Sanchez (R) DH
5. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
6. Luke Voit (R) 1B
7. Austin Romine (R) C
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Stanton day off after 83 straight games. Hechavarria at SS. Gardner only left bat in lineup.
Yanks down 7-3 after 4.
Yanks down 8-3 after 6.
Final Yanks lose 11-7.
What a dreadful homestand. I could live with it if we played two top teams, but we didn't.
We need WINS.
The Yankees are in Oakland today for the start of a three game series with implications for the wild card home field advantage at stake.
Monday 9/3 4:05pm
CC Sabathia (L)
@ Athletics - Trevor Cahill (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
7. Luke Voit (R) 1B
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Just two left handed bats versus a right handed pitcher. No Bird nor Walker.
CC struggling and Yanks trail 4-3 after 2.
Yanks down 4-3 after 2.
CC out after 3 1/3 giving up 5 runs. Yanks trail 5-3 thru 4.
Yanks behind 6-3 after 8 and it doesn't look good.
Yankees go down 1,2,3 in 9th without a whimper. Lose 6-3.
Final Yanks lose 6-3. Lose a game to the A's in race for wild card home advantage.
Happ and Louie Louie start the next two games. Lets win them both.
This Yankee team plays some great baseball and then on a dime plays some lousy baseball.
If anything, all the young Yankees are learning to play under the bright lights and big stage.
Learning to play under pressure and learning what it takes to be the best. This season is not over yet and this team will make the playoffs. How far they go in the playoffs will be determined on their ability to win. Wins and winning always determines the best. No matter how this season ends, watch out for next season.
Lets go Yankees. It isn't over unless give up.
Lets win these next two games and send this puppy to bed.
We play through and we will overcome obstacles put in front of us.
Lets go Yankees.
Tuesday 9/4 10:05pm
J.A. Happ (L)
@ Athletics - Liam Hendriks (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
5. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
6. Gary Sanchez (R) C
7. Neil Walker (S) 2B
8. Luke Voit (R) 1B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) SS
Didi still out. Too many lineup movements for me to list. Look for yourself.
Torres 9th again. No Bird again.
Yanks and A's both go down 1,2,3 in first.
Yankees down 1-0 after five and do not have a hit.
Torres gets first Yankee hit in 6th and gets picked off first base to end the inning.
7th inning bases loaded no outs, Yankees RBI W, K, K, Popout. 1 run to tie game instead of blowing it open. Another epic fail.
Yankees with 2 in 8th and 2 in 9th take 5-1 lead. Betances in for the save try.
Final Yankees win 5-1. ONE
1,2,3 9th for Betances. Series even. Louie Louie tomorrow.
We got a well pitched game last night from start to finish and finally late in the game the bats scored some runs. Lets win again tonight.
Win or lose tonight this has been a poor ten game set for the Yankees.
Take this series tonight. Lets go Yankees.
We are about 140 games into this season and the individual stats of all and any player is relatively meaningless compared to wins which should be the only goal of each and every player on each and every team. Wins is the only stat that matters and wins always determines the best players and teams.
Phil Jenkins, hear hear.

6. Luke Voit (R) 1B
7. Neil Walker (S) 3B
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Andujar out. Bird out again against a lefty. Dominate Louie Louie. Lets win another.
These west coast night games deprive me of my sleep and make for a hard days work the next day.
Nightmare first inning for Yankees. Yankees leave bases loaded and the A's score 4 off Louie Louie with Sanchez not catching nor blocking several pitches that advance runner after runner.
Yankees down 7-0 after four.
Yankees trailing 8-2 after seven.
Final Yankees lose 8-2. And playing poor baseball right now. Off day tomorrow.
1- 10 5-5
11- 20 6-4 = 11-9
21- 30 9-1 = 20-10
31- 40 8-2 = 28-12
41- 50 5-5 = 33-17
51- 60 9-1 = 42-18
61- 70 6-4 = 48-22
71- 80 5-5 = 53-27
81- 90 6-4 = 59-31
91-100 5-5 = 64-36
101-110 4-6 = 68-42
111-120 7-3 = 75-45
121-130 8-2 = 83-47
131-140 4-6 = 87-53
Another bad 10 game set of losing baseball. Hope the Yankees can finish the last two sets with winning baseball and go into the playoffs on a positive note.
Off day today then three weekend games in Seattle with the Mariners. Wins and only wins will carry the day.
This past 4-6 set now makes for two losing sets this season and that is unacceptable.
The fun of a 162 game season. Ups and downs and the race to make the playoffs. Then for the playoffs every team starts from scratch. Under the bright lights and big stage, round after round only the winner moves forward until the World Series where the winner becomes the best team and best players for the 2018 season.
What the fool stat fraud people don't realize by just looking at numbers is there is a big difference in pressure when it counts playing games in September when you are in contention for a playoff berth and playing in April.
I believe that the main problem with this team right now is that Joe Girardi isn't the manager. I'm still hopeful that Boone can right the ship. I don't remember any innings like last night's first inning while Girardi was the manager.
I agree with the three posts above from bigbadwolf, Gus Papa, and White Knight.
Tanaka starts tonight's game one of three in Seattle.
Time to win some series again, big time.
My lineup guess for tonight.
1. Gardner LF (L)
2. Stanton DH (R)
3. Gregorius SS (L)
4. Hicks CF (S)
5. Sanchez C (R)
6. Walker 3B (S)
7. Torres 2B (R)
8. Bird 1B (L)
9. McCutchen RF (R)
Wilsonsway, I like your lineup for several reasons, but alas, we don't have any say.
Lets go Yankees. Play winning baseball right into the WS.
Friday 9/7 10:10pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
@ Mariners - James Paxton (L)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Gary Sanchez (R) C
5. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
6. Luke Voit (R) 1B
7. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Wilsonsway, your lineup is better than Boones.
Yankees with an early 2-0 lead after two.
4-0 Yankee thru four on 2 run home runs by Torres and McCutchen.
Tanaka throwing a gem tonight as Yanks lead 4-0 after seven.
Final. Yankees win 4-0. ONE
Yes, Tanaka was exceptional last night. Two swings got us four runs.
Lynn tonight as we face our old friend the dancing queen.
The 'dancing queen,' I remember well how he was the darling of the stat frauds and not so much by WIN METHOD fans. Never helped his team to the playoffs, never. He signed a long term contract to stay in Seattle and didn't want to see if he could match up when challenged.
We could use a win from Lynn while the lineup hammers 'dancing queen'.
Saturday 9/8 9:10pm
Lance Lynn (R)
@ Mariners - Felix Hernandez (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Luke Voit (R) 1B
5. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
6. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
7. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Lets win another.
As the regular season comes to a close if we win games we are in the playoffs. If we lose enough games we could miss the playoffs. Nothing else matters.
1-1 after four.
All even at 2 after five.
3-2 Yankees after 8. Lets get a run or two for insurance.
Final Yankees win 4-2. TWO
Great post. I was checking continuously this weblog and I am impressed!
Extremely helpful info particularly the ultimate part
:) I handle such information much. I was seeking this particular
information for a very long time. Thank you and good luck.
CC's turn today and a win earns a sweep in Seattle.
I see the Yankee AAA Scranton team has defeated the top International League team to move on in the playoffs.
AA Trenton lost in the first round however.
Sunday 9/9 4:10pm
CC Sabathia (L)
@ Mariners - Erasmo Ramirez (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF

6. Luke Voit (R) 1B
7. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Brett Gardner (L) CF
I love Andujar in the 3 spot and hate Sanchez in the 4 spot. Bird riding the pine even against righties. Lets win again.
Would love to see CC go five shutout innings today. If he can I think that would likely be a sure win for the Yankees.
So much for CC giving up no runs. Four consecutive singles give Mariners 2-1 lead after one inning.
Yanks down 2-1 after 2.
2-2 after four.
My fear materialized. How low can you go. Meatball Sanchez down to .181 BA and when Andujar leads off the fifth with a single, meatball immediately follows with an easy ground ball double play to kill the inning. How many teams have a .180 hitter batting cleanup. Give me Romine.
2-2 after 6.
Yanks down 3-2 after 8.
Yankee have no one to blame but themselves for yet another horrific display of failure to produce when it counts from the first inning to last and they lose 3-2. Another horrendous loss.
Final Yankees lose 3-2. A very sad game and a game that should of could of easily been one with just a hit when it mattered on any of multiple occasions.
Another frustrating game. What may be even more frustrating is a manager that would put Gary 'meatball' Sanchez in the cleanup spot. He shouldn't even be the starting catcher.
On to Minnesota for three games with Happ, Grayskies, and Louie Louie the listed starters.
This Yankee team is missing something. For a team that will win at least upper 90's games they lose far too many games where just a single or two at the right time would have won quite a few more games. All this despite the countless injuries.
It should have been a sweep of the Mariner series, at least we won it. Now to at least win the Minnesota series.
If I had to name the three biggest problems with this Yankee team, it would Sanchez, Cashman, and Boone. Sanchez should be sent packing for the rest of the season. There are countless GM's who could easily fill Cashmans shoes and do a better job. And Boone looks like he kowtowing to the analytical fools.
Both are having dismal seasons, but how can you justify playing meatball Sanchez over Bird.
HerecomestheJudge, Particularly when you have Romine who is having a better season offensively and defensively.
Monday 9/10 8:10pm
J.A. Happ (L)
@ Twins - Kyle Gibson (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
2. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
3. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
6. Gary Sanchez (R) C
7. Greg Bird (L) 1B
8. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Sanchez still in the lineup, oh my. Stanton cleanup and Hicks in 2 hole.
Sorely lacking are hits when it matters most. With all the woes that have beset this team this season we could be right with the sux if we won several games we could have easily have won with a hit or two in the big spots.
