The conclusion to the regular 162 game 2018 season is coming fast. Ten teams will make the playoffs and the other twenty teams will conclude their season, go home, and watch the ten best teams in Major League Baseball play in the playoffs and try to win their way to the World Series.
The ten teams that reach the playoffs will do so by achieving WINS, with each division winner making the playoffs and then the next two teams in each league who have the most WINS but who did not win any division going to the playoffs. Five teams in each league. The three division winners and the next two teams with the most wins in the league as wild cards.
With just about fifty games to be played in the regular season it appears the YANKEES will not win their division and will have to settle for a wild card position as they did last season. Last season the YANKEES rode their playoff spot to within one game (one more WIN) of reaching the World Series.
Nothing but wins and winning determines the best players and teams, no other stat of any kind for hitters or pitchers make any difference. Who each team plays in the playoffs are only determined by WINS. And advancing each round are only determined by WINS. Nothing else matters, but WINS.
I would like to mention my observations on this 2018 YANKEE team so far this season. I will not go into injuries because every team has injuries to varying degrees and I find that injuries are part of the game, a part that every team must deal with and overcome to be the best. The aspect I will talk about is the very distinct lack of hustle, urgency, and even desire I have seen from some players and management. Jogging down to first base on grounders, not running hard on fly balls and or popups is unacceptable at anytime within the confines of other runners on base. Hitting a fly ball that you think is going over the fence and would be a home run and jogging down the line only to watch the ball bounce between fielders or off the wall and instead of maybe getting a triple settling for a double. Any time these events occur and are not addressed by the manager and they continue time and time again a distinct lack of leadership and control is evident. This attitude and their acceptance must be corrected immediately by all involved. I have seen and heard from many fans who see what is happening and have voiced their dismay in this blog over and over. I have been around baseball for sixty years and have never seen this from a YANKEE team. WIN METHOD fans deserve better as all YANKEE fans should.
LETS GO YANKEES !!!

Sorry people. I deleted a bunch of posts by accident.
johnsondc, that was a great conversation regarding Boone and his management of the team. Hope most everyone read it before your error.
Lori Kelly, everyone has an opinion, but I like yours.
There were points for and against Boone, and points for Girardi, none against. George Steinbrenner and Hal were mentioned. George positively and Hal not. Continue on fans.
One o'clock game today.
Today's game has been moved to a 7PM start.
Happ, Louie Louie, and Tanaka listed starters for sux series.
Tuesday 9/18 7:05pm
J.A. Happ (L)
vs. Red Sox - Nathan Eovaldi (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
6. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
7. Gary Sanchez (R) C
8. Neil Walker (S) 1B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
JUDGE is back. Walker at 1B instead of Bird, why?
Shouldn't expect much from Judge in his first game back. It is still great to see him back.
Lets go Yankees.
Lets win every series for the rest of the season.
We need wins and only wins.
0-0 after 2.
Yanks down 1-0 after 2.
Yankees trail 1-0 after 5 and aren't touching Eovaldi so far.
Yanks down 1-0 after 6.
Walker seventh inning 3 run HR gives Yankees 3-1 lead.
I guess that's why Boone had Walker at first base tonight. A player produces and he make the manager look good, and if a player doesn't produce he makes the manager look bad.
Yanks up 3-1 after 8.
Yankees lead 3-1 as Britton comes in for the 9th to try and save it after Robertson pitches a scoreless 7th and 8th.
Yankee sloppy defense, two errors, give the sux a run and a chance in the ninth, but a double play ends the game for a 3-2 win.
Final Yankees win 3-2. ONE
Louie Louie tomorrow night. We need wins.
We played sloppy last night, gave away runs, got great pitching, only got three hits, one of those hits the biggest hit of the game at the biggest time when it mattered and won 3-2. We still need wins.
1-- 10 5-5
11-- 20 6-4 = 11-9
21-- 30 9-1 = 20-10
31-- 40 8-2 = 28-12
41-- 50 5-5 = 33-17
51-- 60 9-1 = 42-18
61-- 70 6-4 = 48-22
71-- 80 5-5 = 53-27
81-- 90 6-4 = 59-31
91--100 5-5 = 64-36
101-110 4-6 = 68-42
111-120 7-3 = 75-45
121-130 8-2 = 83-47
131-140 4-6 = 87-53
141-150 5-5 = 92-58
Another mediocre ten game set. One more ten game set plus two games left in the season and the drive to the playoffs. The wild card game is assured, home field advantage for that one game is at stake curing the last twelve games.
Going back to the Boone discussion. Boone puts Walker at 1B last night over Voit or Bird and Walker wins the game with a 3 run homer possibly saves the game scooping a low throw to end the game on a double play. Does this make Boone a genius, lucky, a decision maker????
Louie Louie, do what Happ did last night.
Wednesday 9/19 7:05pm
Luis Severino (R)
vs. Red Sox - David Price (L)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) RF
5. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
6. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
7. Gary Sanchez (R) C
8. Luke Voit (R) 1B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Only left handed bat is Didi. Judge went with the pitch more times in his one game last night than meatball does in a week of games. If Price throws outside hit it to right. THINK
I wonder what the Bird story is. He doesn't get to play. Have the Yankees given up on him or does he have some sort of injury or issue. Will the Yankees seriously go after Harper as a left handed power bat to level the lineup.
Lets finish the season strong and go into the second season ready to roll.
Andujar goes with the pitch to right field and deposit's in the seats for a 1-0 lead.
Yanks up 3-0 after 2.
Yanks up 4-0 after 4.
Voit goes to right field for a home run to make it 4-0 Yankees thru 4.
sux get to Louie Louie in 5th for a run. Yankees lead 4-1 after 5.
Voit hit a second home run to right field, this one with a man on to put Yanks up 6-1 in 6th.
Yanks up 8-1 after 6.
Louie Louie goes seven dominant innings and leaves leading 8-1.
The Yanks pound the sux with meaningless late inning runs and lead 10-1 after eight.
Yanks up 10-1 after 8.
Yankee projected young star pitcher Justus Sheffield gets his first taste of the big leagues in the 9th, can't find the plate but gets DP with bases loaded to get out of inning. Yankees win 10-1.
Final Yankees win 10-1. TWO.
Has Boone been pulling out leg this season? Is Judge the difference? Or Voit?
Tanaka tonight to try to finish the job of dry cleaning the foul smelly dirty sux.
Wins are the one only stat that takes players and teams to the playoffs. We still need more wins.
There is no question that Judge extends the lineup and makes it better and more dangerous. Voit is a very pleasant surprise. meatball continues to be the anchor although on his last out he did hit the ball to right center. If he goes that way as others do he will become a force again. If he tries to pull everything he will live and die on the interstate.
At least we finally won a series and have a shot at sweeping it.
Sheffield looked awed last night as well he should be. He has to learn to throw strikes, walks kill. He fought through the inning however and hopefully moves forward. We could use another good starter like Louie Louie. He is young and still developing.
Thursday 9/20 7:05pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
vs. Red Sox - Eduardo Rodriguez (L)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
6. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
7. Gary Sanchez (R) C
8. Luke Voit (R) 1B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Same lineup as last night. Lets get the same results by doing what we did, hit the ball where it is pitched, go with the pitch.
Yes, let's get the same results.
Just need to produce when it counts consistently and the wins will flow like champagne.
Lets go Yankees, yes we can.
Yanks down 1-0 after 1.
Voit again. 2 run 2nd inning HR. Trail 3-2 and still batting.
Yanks down 3-2 after 2.
Tanaka off tonight but grinding. Keep us in it guy.
Stanton with a grand slam when it counts puts Yankees up 6-4 in fourth.
Yanks up 6-4 after 4.
Tanaka leaves in the fifth with no out and runners on 1st and 3rd. Robertson comes in and allows just one run. Yankees lead 6-5 after five. Green in for the sixth.
Yanks up 6-5 after 6.
Yankees down 8-6 after 7 as bullpen falters.
Chapman in for the 8th and not sharp and may have given away any chance Yankees had as he gives up 3 runs and Yankees are down 11-6.
Final loss 11-6.
The Yankees host the Orioles for three games this weekend with Sabathia starting pitcher tonight. We need nothing but wins. All the other stat crap is nonsense and meaningless garbage.
If there ever was one, this is a series we need to sweep.
Tanaka was a major disappointment last night. He buried his team.
Friday 9/21 7:05pm
CC Sabathia (L)
vs. Orioles - Yefry Ramirez (R)
1. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) DH
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Luke Voit (R) 1B
6. Neil Walker (S) 3B
7. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Andujar the best pure hitter on the team on the bench. Gardner back in LF. McCutchen DH.
Stanton out also. You can't play everybody. Just win.
Yankees get 2 in first on 2 run HR by Gregorius and lead 2-0 after one.
Yanks up 2-0 after 2.
We have a laugher as the Yankees score 4 in the 4th, 2 on Hicks 2 run HR. 6-0
Yanks up 6-0 after 4.
Yanks up 6-2 after 6.
9-4 Yankees after seven.
Yankee bullpen stinking up the joint as O's get 3 in the 8th. Yanks up 9-8 coming to bat in the 8th.
Yanks up 10-8 after 8.
Judge 2 out rbi double gives Yankees insurance run in 8th. 10-8 Yankees.
Final Yankees win 10-8. ONE
Betances gets the save for a 10-8 win.
Lynn today for the Yankees and we need to win again and again.
Why can't this team just put away games without drama. The hitters either fail or the pitchers fail and yet we still win a lot of games.
Isn't it ironic that the stat frauds live and breath to play their idiotic fantasy league games and all the baseball world is talking about what teams will get to the playoffs in both the National and American Leagues and getting there is solely dependent on wins. Wins, which is what this blog adheres to and all intelligent baseball fans know is right and true.
Saturday 9/22 4:05pm
Lance Lynn (R)
vs. Orioles - David Hess (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
6. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
7. Luke Voit (R) 1B
8. Gary Sanchez (R) C
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Looks like a pretty solic lineup. I like Stanton sandwiched between to lefty bats.
Carlos Pepe, If you don't win you are not the best.
Hicks leads off second with HR. 1-0
Andujar singles but gets thrown out at second trying to stretch. Voit then hits HR for 2-0 lead.
meatball K's looking. Torres flies out. Yanks up 2-0 after two innings.
meatball in his 2nd at bat stands there looking at 3rd strike again.
Yankees look bad at plate again today. This team does seem to keep the poorer teams in the game. 2-2 thru 5.
Still even at 2 after six. Chapman in to pitch the seventh.
Chapman 1,2,3 7th, but Yankees fail to score with runner on 3rd and one out, as Torres thrown out at home on grounder to third baseman. Still 2-2.
2-2 thru 8 as Yankee batters continue to look pathetic. Only runs are two solo HRs in 2nd inning.
Extra innings tied at 2. Very sad display of offense from Yankees.
O's load bases in 10th with no outs and Holder pitches out of it. Now lets with it for what's left of out sanity as fans.
Yanks go down haplessly 1,2,3 in 10th. Still 2-2.
We had Lynn go five and give up 2 runs. Then one inning each for Green, Chapman, Betances, Britton, and Holder. Kahnle in for the 11th.
Hicks walkoff double wins it after Didi single in 11th.
Final Yankees win 3-2. TWO Clinch playoff wild card berth.
Happ goes for the series sweep tomorrow. We should be playing for home field for the wild card game. I hope Boone realizes this and cares. You never know.
Still need to win games and get our hitters on track. Stanton and meatball are doing very poorly right now.
Today's game could be iffy. A lot of rain just south at edge of city. If it rides north a little there will be rain.
Sunday 9/23 1:05pm
J.A. Happ (L)
vs. Orioles - Alex Cobb (R)
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) RF
3. Luke Voit (R) DH
4. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
5. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
6. Neil Walker (S) 1B
7. Gary Sanchez (R) C
8. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
9. Brett Gardner (L) CF
No Didi? No Judge? No Romine?
I have to believe that Boone has logical in his mind, reasons to sit star players so often. However, I also have to believe star players want to be on the field in action and that players cannot hone their skills and overcome down times sitting on the bench. Therefore, in my opinion I believe Boone is not the sharpest tack in the box.
Steve, I agree, yet Boone could have a 100 win season in his rookie year as manager.
Orioles walk first three batters. Lets see what we get with the bags full, nobody out and 4,5,6 batters coming up.
Torres up, sac fly to right. 1-0. Men on 1st and 3rd one out. Andujar up, line single to center. 2-0. Men on 1st and 2nd one out. Walker up, strike out. Two out. meatball up, bloop single to center, good job, he went with the pitch. 3-0. Men on 1st and 3rd two out. Etcheverria up, lines out to right field. Nice inning with no home runs and a 3-0 lead.
Yankees get 3 in first for a 3-0 lead.
Yanks up 3-1 after 2.
Yanks up 3-1 after 4.
Happ has gone five innings so far and has only given up a run, but he hasn't been sharp and has had men in scoring position almost every inning plus the Yankees have thrown a runner out at home to save a run.
The imbecile Boone brings in Cole who has no chance of being on the post season roster and should never pitch in a Yankee uniform again and he gives up double, HR, HR and Yankees are down 4-3. I want Girardi back, NOW. Fire Boone and let him go back to talking to afraud on espn and let someone who know the game manage.
Yankeeforever, I know you are irritated, but Cole was the one throwing the pitches not Boone. I do agree with you that Cole should not be in any games anymore and that was before he was brought in today and failed. Boone has a bullpen full of young promising arms and I wish he would look at them and give them a chance before a waste like Cole.
Yanks down 5-3 after 6.
