THE 2026 BASEBALL SEASON -- 162 GAMES TO PLAYOFFS
Here we are 23 games into the 2026 season with a 14-9 record. At this point I feel very comfortable in saying the Yankees will make the playoffs, and win the AL East division. The YANKEE win total for the regular season should be about 101 wins. I broke the season into thirds, with 54 games in each third. Because the YANKEE starting pitching is just getting better and better with disabled list pitchers returning. Cole and Rodon will be back very soon, and I am not counting on Schmidt at this point in time. I am also looking forward for Volpe's return, returning as an improved hitter and fielder. Watch and see for yourself.
Now let me break down the three 54 game thirds into actual win/loss numbers. Remember WIN METHOD fans, wins are the only number in baseball that determines the best players and teams. Frist third, I went with a low 27-27 record. For the middle third, with Cole and Rodon's return, with Fried, Schlittler, Warren, Gil, and Weathers available, look for the bullpen being better also, with Cruz, Bednar, Headrick, and Hill being the top holdovers. I am not even mentioning Schmidt's return. Middle third record 36-18. Then we come to the final third of games. With the strength of the roster and the strength of the YANKEE minor leaguers, look for the YANKEES to make deals, if needed, to upgrade the lineup. The final third is the race to the finish line and the playoffs. Record 38-16. That will make for a 101-61 won/loss record. Not to shabby.

«Oldest ‹Older 601 – 641 of 641Scoreless after four innings. The Yankees have sent 12 batters to the plate, 7 haven't hit the ball and have struck out, the other 5 have hit the ball and have made out. No Yankee has reached base. Schlittler hasn't given up a run either. Very sad indeed.
It worked, the old reverse jinx. Yankee 5th inning, walk, walk, Caballero 3 run HR. Schlittler did give up a run in bottom of 5th. 3-1 Yankees.
Yankees win 5-1. Schlittler goes 8 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Bednar closes it out. Caballero carries the load, 3 run HR and solo HR. Rice solo HR. for all five Yankee runs.
Wish Schlittler could start again tonight.
Todays Yankee lineup
Will Warren RHP
T Grisham (L) CF
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
B Rice (L) DH
A Rosario (R) 3B
C Bellinger (L) LF
J Caballero (R) SS
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
M Schuemann (R) RF
A Sánchez (R) C
Say a prayer and hope for a miracle.
Wondered what the over/under was for Yankees alone was tonight. Fad Duel has it at 3 1/2. If the Yankees go over they could win. The way they have been playing they should be under, but could still win. Warren likely can't duplicate what Schlittler did last night.
Yankees leading 3-2 thru three innings on Rice three run home run.
Warren getting hammered again, looks like batting practice. Six runs and he is still in the 4th inning.
Final. Yankees lose 6-4. Warren gives up all six runs early and loses game by himself. Rice 3 run HR only Yankee big hit of the game as they squandered several chances by striking out 16 times.
Another stupid loss. Need one more win.
Todays Yankee lineup
Gerrit Cole RHP
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
B Rice (L) DH
A Rosario (R) 3B
C Bellinger (L) LF
J Domínguez (S) RF
A Volpe (R) SS
M Schuemann (R) CF
A Wells (L) C
J Caballero (R) 2B
If Cole thinks he is the 'ace' of the staff, then he needs to do what Schlittler did and prove it.
I get the impression that Cole seems to be holding back for some reason. No way to know if it is true or not. He has been throwing too many cookies, and getting hit hard too often. Not just the hits, but the outs also.
Yankees down 1-0 after 3.
Yankees trail 3-0 after seven as the lineup has failed all night.
Final. Yankees lose 3-0. Cole gets the loss. Lineup gets nothing.
There is a hole in the Yankee boat and it is slowly sinking. Something has to be done soon to stop the leak or everyone will drown.
Todays Yankee lineup
Paul Blackburn RHP
T Grisham (L) CF
B Rice (L) DH
J Domínguez (S) RF
C Bellinger (L) 1B
J Caballero (R) SS
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
M Schuemann (R) LF
R McMahon (L) 3B
A Wells (L) C
Blackburn starting for Yankees which will be a bullpen game. Another loss will hurt.
Yankees win a six run seven hit third inning for a 6-1 lead. It's been a long time, three weeks since they have scored six runs in a game, and here they did it in one inning.
Yanks up 7-3 after 4.
Rice 3 run HR in 6th gives Yankees 10-3 lead and some breathing room.
Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees Winnnnnnnnnn 12-4.
Final. Yankees win 12-4. A much needed win to split the four game series with the Tampa Bay Rays. The game was a bullpen game for the Yankees who used seven pitchers. Yarborough was credited with the win and Headrick a hold. The entire lineup contributed to the Yankee win by producing when it mattered most. Wells had a solo HR and Rice had a solo and a three run HR.
A big 12-4 win today when most fans didn't expect it, over the Tampa Bay Rays to split the four game series. Yankees head to DC for a three game weekend series with the Nationals. Then the All-Star game break followed by the second half of the season and the race to the playoffs.
Weekend series Yankee rotation, Weathers, Schlittler, and Warren.
Todays Yankee lineup
Ryan Weathers LHP
A Rosario (R) 3B
B Rice (L) DH
T Grisham (L) CF
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
C Bellinger (L) LF
J Domínguez (S) RF
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
J Caballero (R) SS
A Wells (L) C
Weathers has been throwing batting practice lately, about time to pitch a big game win for a change. Wouldn't that be lovely?
Rain delay in DC in effect.
Yankees lead 1-0 after two innings on a Ben Rice home run.
Yanks up 2-1 after 4.
The Yanks come to bat in the 9th down 3-2. Need a rally. Dominguez single followed by Jazz 2 run home run for a 4-3 lead. Wells with a solo home run for a 5-3. Bednar who pitched the eighth inning is staying in to pitch the night and earn the win.
Bednar with a no drama 1,2,3 ninth for the win.
Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees Winnnnnnnnnn 5-3.
Final. Yankees win 5-3. Weathers kept Yanks in game. Hill gave 2 HR's to put Yanks down 3-2. Chisholm 2 run HR and Wells solo HR, his second of the game, in 9th give Yankees 5-3 lead. The first 2 Yankee runs were a HR from Rice and Wells.. Bednar pitched the 8th and 9th shutout innings to earn the win. Yankees needed that.
Dominguez solo, Wells two solo, and Chisholm 2 run home run were all the Yankee runs tonight in Washington as they eked out a come from behind 5-3 win. The bad note, Hill gave up a 2-1 Yankee lead allowing back to back home runs putting the Yankees down 3-2 in the 7th inning. But Yanks did come back.
Todays Yankee lineup
Cam Schlittler RHP
A Rosario (R) 3B
B Rice (L) DH
T Grisham (L) CF
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
C Bellinger (L) LF
J Domínguez (S) RF
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
A Volpe (R) SS
A Sánchez (R) C
Big win last night, need another this afternoon. Schlittler starting should help, Lineup scoring run (multiple crooked numbers) would also help.
Schlittler gives up two home runs in first inning. Down 2-0.
Yanks down 2-0 after 4.
Yankees do it again, down 2-0 to start 8th inning. McMahon HR, Grisham 2 run HR, Goldschmidt HR. 4-2 Yanks mid 8th.
Cruz scoreless 8th for a hold, Bednar scoreless 9th for save. A come from behind 4-2 win.
Final. Yankees win 4-2. Schlittler goes 6 2/3 innings for a no decision. Headrick 1/3 inning. Cruz 1 inning hold, Bednar 1 inning save. Yankee down 2-0 from first inning thru the seventh. Then do what they did last night, come from behind with 4 runs in 8th. When it mattered most in order McMahon HR, Grisahm 2 run HR, Goldschmidt HR. Yankees playing cripples with injuries take this series with a sweep chance tomorrow.
These two games could have been losses. If they were that would have meant a big swing to the negative in the W/L record.
Warren starts tomorrow for Yanks. As Weathers, he has been off, and needs to come up with a quality game at minimum. With the Yankee lineup, who knows what you'll get and when you will get it.
