THE 2026 BASEBALL SEASON -- 162 GAMES TO PLAYOFFS
Here we are 23 games into the 2026 season with a 14-9 record. At this point I feel very comfortable in saying the Yankees will make the playoffs, and win the AL East division. The YANKEE win total for the regular season should be about 101 wins. I broke the season into thirds, with 54 games in each third. Because the YANKEE starting pitching is just getting better and better with disabled list pitchers returning. Cole and Rodon will be back very soon, and I am not counting on Schmidt at this point in time. I am also looking forward for Volpe's return, returning as an improved hitter and fielder. Watch and see for yourself.
Now let me break down the three 54 game thirds into actual win/loss numbers. Remember WIN METHOD fans, wins are the only number in baseball that determines the best players and teams. Frist third, I went with a low 27-27 record. For the middle third, with Cole and Rodon's return, with Fried, Schlittler, Warren, Gil, and Weathers available, look for the bullpen being better also, with Cruz, Bednar, Headrick, and Hill being the top holdovers. I am not even mentioning Schmidt's return. Middle third record 36-18. Then we come to the final third of games. With the strength of the roster and the strength of the YANKEE minor leaguers, look for the YANKEES to make deals, if needed, to upgrade the lineup. The final third is the race to the finish line and the playoffs. Record 38-16. That will make for a 101-61 won/loss record. Not to shabby.

Yanks with a narrow 2-0 lead through six innings. Weathers has looked good. Lombard Jr. turned two double plays that were not easy. but he made them look easy.
It's now a bullpen game for Yankees. Need three innings.
Final. Yankees win 2-0. Weathers six scoreless innings for the win. Cruz 2/3, Headrick 1, inning for holds, Bednar 1 1/3 for the save. Chisholm and Lombard Jr. each a solo HR for all the runs.
Yankees win it to even series. Lombard home run in his first MLB game. 2-0
Judge has got to come back. This line-up will be night & day from what we've seen the past couple of months with Judge, Garcia, Lombard & hopefully Belli back. And who knows, maybe even Stanton. With our pitching, that would be pretty formidable for an October run.

Final. Yankees lose 3-1. Not one hit when it mattered most in the entire game. Lone run scored on a walk in an inning with 3 walks and a HBP. Warren takes the loss giving up all 3 runs.
Scoring one run doesn't cut it and won't win most games. Yankee go down 2-1, lose series and lose game to everyone in their division.

Great baseball at Yankee Stadium this weekend as the Yankees host the Atlanta Braves for a three game weekend series. Yankee starters Fried, Cole, and Schlittler. WOW!!!

I agree. Execution needs to be constantly and consistently. We allow evil people to commit some of the most horrendous crimes to people and then pay for them to live their lives out in room and board that we all pay form including the families of those who have lost their dearest/closest relative. Final. Yankees win 3-2 in ten innings. Bednar gets the win with a scoreless 10th inning. Fried went 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Cruz 8th inning and Hill 9th inning each gave up a solo HR putting Yankees down 2-0. Lombard started a ninth inning rally with a single, Wells rbi double and Rice rbi single tied the game. McMahon sac fly in 10th wins the game.
The Yankee come from 2-0 down in the 9th, score 2 to tie and 1 in 10th for a 3-2 win. Big when it mattered most rbi's from Well, Rice and McMahon.
Crazy game, but a needed win. Lineup with eight innings of futility, but produced in the 9th and 10th for the 3-2 win.

I don't know, if Judge and Stanton were in lineup it would help. You just can't keep asking your starters to pitch shutouts every start.
Watching Lombard playing shortstop, I get the same feeling I got when Jeter played shortstop. In crucial big play situations as the pitcher is delivering the ball to the plate, I say, "hit it to short". --- No drama smooth fielded out.

Lombard with a Jeteresque HR to right field in seventh gives Yanks 4-2 after seven.
Hendricks gives up HR in 8th. Now 4-3 Yanks coming to bat. Insurances run(s)???
How about that Rice leads offs 8th with HR 5-3 Yanks.

Blackburn 1/3 inning scoreless for a hold, Bedar 1 inning allowing an uncontested run for another save. Jones a rbi single and a rbi triple. Lombard and Rice each with a solo HR. Another run scored on a balk. These games are nerve racking.
Hard to believe Yanks have just won two games from one of the best teams in baseball with three of their biggest bats out of action. A third tomorrow???
TOMMY JOHN --- a baseball legend who should never be forgotten.
Baseball legend Tommy John is saying goodbye to the game and the fans who followed him for decades ... penning an emotional farewell letter as he battles serious health issues.
Tommy wasn't at Yankee Stadium for today's Old-Timers' Day celebration ... but the Yankees shared a message from the 83-year-old thanking the organization and the Steinbrenner family for giving him the chance to "say goodbye to everyone."
Tommy is currently in hospice care at his home in Bradenton, Florida, according to a Reuters report.
He also thanked his teammates and fans from his 26-year MLB career ... and paid special tribute to Dr. Frank Jobe, who performed the groundbreaking elbow reconstruction surgery on him in 1974 that would forever become known as "Tommy John surgery."
Tommy missed the entire 1975 season before returning to the mound in 1976 ... ultimately winning 164 more games. He retired in 1989 with 288 career wins and a 3.34 ERA.
He revealed in 2024 he was battling bladder cancer ... though it's unclear whether that's connected to the health issues he's facing now.
Tommy ended his letter by remembering advice his father gave him before his professional career began -- no matter how big he made it, he'd always simply be Tommy John from Terre Haute, Indiana.
His final words ... "Thank you & God Bless."

Bednar went 1 2/3 innings, saddled with a blown save through no fault of his, but then gets the win after Rice who made the error tying the game in the 9th, hits the game winning 2 run HR in 10th. Hill gets the save working the 1oth. Other 2 Yankee runs came on a Caballero rbi single and a Garcia rbi single.

Headrick goes a shaky 2/3 inning and Cruz bails him out getting the final out with the bases loaded. Both earn holds. Blackburn 1 inning for a hold and Bednar a quick and easy 1,2,3 nineth for the save.. Offense, easy one, GRISHAM, a solo HR and the biggest hit of the game a bases loaded two out two rbi single when it mattered most for the win,

I know the WIN METHOD isn't and individual stats fan, but I am going to post this one because it coincides with my keen eye of rating players on defense. I will preface by saying I am talking about Lombard's defensive play and in just two weeks he, in my view, is maybe the best defensive shortstop in baseball. Here it is ~ Lombard has looked elite defensively, in just 12 games played he now has a +8 DRS, the fourth-best among shortstops in the MLB. ~ Just 12 games, people, just 12 games.

Yankees lead 3-2 after four innings. Warren horrid and struggling mightily. Ninety pitches in four innings.

Final. Yankees win 5-3. Warren only went four weak innings throwing 90 pitches for a no decision. Hill went 1 1/3, 4up 4down innings. Cruz went 2/3 inning allowing a run. Headrick went one perfect inning and earned the win. Blackburn a scoreless 8th for a hold, and Bednar another 1,2,3 ninth and another save. A little life from the offense, McMahon rbi single, Lombard sacfly rbi and game winning rbi single. Rice solo HR, and a run on a wild pitch. The win clinches the series with a chance for a sweep tomorrow.
Cole tomorrow for Yankees to try for a sweep of the Orioles in Baltimore.
Yanks take series with a 5-3 win. Another nail biter, but a win is a win.

Yankees win 6-1, sweep O's, host Blue Jays for three game weekend series. Judge swinging bat at ball off a T, Bellinger to play rehab game and then return to Yankee lineup.
Final. Yankees win 6-1. It was a great win for two reasons. The win being the primary reason. The secondary reason could be big for the weekend. Cole went six innings for the win. Here it comes, Yarbrough went the final three innings, nine up nine down, giving the bullpen all the rest they need for three games with the Blue Jays over the weekend. Offense was pretty much everybody. Garcia and Jones had solo HR's. Chisholm a triple, and Ramos a double. rbi's in alphabetical order, Caballero, Chisholm, Garcia, Jones, Ramos, and Rice.
Schlittler, Weathers, and Rodon listed Yankee starters this weekend.
