YANKEE 2024 MLB SEASON -- 162 games to the playoffs

The New York YANKEES  start their 2024 season today.  They start the season with their best pitcher, Gerrit Cole, on the DL (disabled list) and their starting third baseman, DJ LeMahieu also on the DL.  It is estimated that Cole will be out of action for about two months, and LeMahieu out for anywhere from  two weeks to two months.  There are also several other players who will start the season on the DL.

The ultimate goal for the YANKEES is to win the World Series.  There are many thresholds that must be met just to get to the World Series.  Every threshold is met in only one way, WINS.  Wins is the only stat that determines the best players and the best teams in baseball.  Over the 162 game season the teams who win their division will move on to the playoffs, and the next teams in each league with the most wins will also go on to the playoffs.  The playoffs then start and only the teams that WIN each round move forward towards the World Series.
Any team that loses any round is finished for the season.  Only WINS determines which teams move forward, until only one team in each league is left, and they will be the two teams who will meet in the World Series to determine which team and their players are the best in baseball. No players individual stats mean a thing on which players and teams reach the World Series.  Learn this fans, if you haven't already or if you are new to baseball, only WINS determines which players are and which team is the World Champions of baseball, by winning the World Series.

The YANKEES have upgraded their lineup and roster significantly by adding Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Marcus Stroman to the team for the 2024 season.  Anthony Volpe will be in his second season and still on the improve.  Austin Wells, a promising youngster, has been added to the catching ranks. The YANKEES, will be looking for help from several young pitchers until their 'ace' Cole returns to the starting rotation.

In other news, this blog, the WIN METHOD YANKEE baseball blog, will break two billion views in the next several months.  The WIN METHOD blog is the number one YANKEE baseball blog in the world with readers and contributors of opinions from all around the world.  Yes, 2,000,000,000 views, from all over the world.  Thank you all, wherever you are from for your viewership and your opinions.

As the season begins, lets all get behind and support our team, the New York YANKEES, and their run to the World Series.  It will not be easy, there are thirty teams with the same goal.

Again, thank you everyone, for making the WIN METHOD what it is today, the best blog, forum, or site in the world, just as you all are, the best in the world readers and posters.

Gil tonight to even series instead of winning series. Every team loses games, giving games away needs to be completely avoided, but it will happen to every team. Giving a game away just leaves a sour feeling in your mouth.

Top of first inning, one of the worst umpiring calls in the history of baseball was made. If you didn't see the play, I am sure there will many replays of the incident which will clearly show the incompetence, ignorance, and common sense of MLB umpires. Just regroup and respond with a win.

Final. Yankees win 2-1. Gil brilliant again. Goes 8 innings allowing 1 run and 2 hits for the win. Holmes works a scoreless 9th which kept fans on the edge of their seats. Gets out of self created jam and earns the save. Verdugo HR and Volpe triple and scoring on wild throw trying to get him at third base the only Yankee runs. Defense solid tonight, but offense dead. Series tied at two with the rubber game tomorrow night.

HerecomestheJudge said...

Getting back to the first inning umpire boondoggle of incompetence last night.

There needs to be some room for common sense. The Angel fielder misjudged the popup and subsequently crashed into Soto who was literally standing on the base. You can't punish the runner for being where he is supposed to be. You can't call the runner out when the batter is already out because of the infield fly rule being called. The fielder ran into the runner who was standing on second base, exactly where he is supposed to be under the circumstances. The fielder did not have to catch the popup, because the batter was automatically out once the infield fly rule was called.

Final ruling should have been, bases loaded, one out, continue the game. But that would have meant common sense being used.

Rodon tries to win the series tonight. Help from the lineup would be nice.

Well, there was a lot of evidence including an audio recording of Trump discussing the crime and a lot of witness testimony and paper records. But who cares, we have to call it rigged.

Given Trump's advanced age and obvious dementia I hope the judge is lenient in his sentencing. I suggest no more than 3 years in prison. That is fair and when he gets out he can still enjoy a fulfilling life selling Trump Bibles and Trump sneakers.

Although he has a history of violence organizing the Jan 6 massacre. So let's go with 3.5 years.

Good start to this series.

BIGTIMEYANKEE said...

Stroman has a bad game, only goes 4 2/3 innings. Gives up 5 runs and 8 its. Leaves leading 7-5 but cannot earn a win. Need a few more runs now. Still a long way to go.

RAIN DELAY

Great post and prediction re Grisham, Carlos Pepe. Fans here really know their baseball.

Yankeefan2 said...

Yankees win 8-5. Long hour rain delayed game, it wasn't pretty, but a win. Sweep series with Twins.

Domenic said...

Not a crisp game, stretched an extra hour because of rain. Boone used six pitchers, and it felt like the Twins were always one big hit from winning. Twins outhit Yankees 10 to 7 and also had 4 walks, but failed to deliver the big blow. So Yankees won 8-5 winning and sweeping the series.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 8-5. Yanks used six pitchers. Stroman went 4 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs for a no decision. Stroman did not have his best stuff and grinded out what he could. Hamilton came in for the last out in the 5th. Because of a hour rain delay that was it for Hamilton. Gonzalez in for the 6th and went 2/3 inning, 0 runs. Weaver in for the last out in the 6th and completed the 7th allowing 0 runs and was credited with the win. Kahnle worked a scoreless 8th for a hold, and Holmes a scoreless 9th for the save, his 18th on the season. Yankee offense Grisham a 2 run HR. Torres a 2 rbi double and Wells a sacfly rbi. Volpe steals third base and scores on a throwing error. Stanton rbi single, and final run scores on Grisham sacfly rbi his third rbi of game.

The halfwit to no wit posters at the nyyfan forum are wetting their pants, whining, and bemoaning the Yankees about Soto's forearm issue. Their comments are absurd and display each posters sheer ignorance. Soto issue is likely minor to minimal. Lets see if he plays in the weekend series.

Dodgers aka known as the "Bums" when they were in Brooklyn, NY are here for a three game weekend series. Yankee starters, Poteet, Cortes, and Gil. If the Yankees win this series, it would be really saying something. "If"

Soto underwent an MRI today, and it appears the initial results were positive. Soto, who was taken out of night's game early due to left forearm discomfort, appears to be dealing with inflammation. He will have further tests and will not be in the starting lineup for tonight's game.

Todays Yankee Lineup

Cody Poteet RHP

A Volpe (R) SS
A Verdugo (L) LF
A Judge (R) RF
G Stanton (R) DH
A Rizzo (L) 1B
G Torres (R) 2B
D LeMahieu (R) 3B
T Grisham (L) CF
J Trevino (R) C

Soto not in lineup. Likely just a precaution. Lets go Yankees, win one without Juan.

Stanley Chin said...

First game without Soto. Anyone, everyone step up. Prediction, IF Poteet goes five innings of scoreless pitching the Yanks will win the game.

Lets go Yankees

Danny G said...

How sweet would it be if Poteet and the Yankees win tonight!

candycane said...

0-0 after 3.

Stanley Chin said...

Almost. Poteet goes 4 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Gonzalez gets the third out. 0-0 mid fifth.

Yanks23245 said...

No score thru five innings. Poteet did a great job going 4 2/3 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 3 walks. Can't ask for more. Yamamoto is pounding the strike zone, fast ball after fast ball.

YankeeMike said...

0-0 thru 9, now little league extra innings. This is a disgrace to baseball fans.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 2-1 in eleven innings. A truly great game played by the Yanks, and a tough loss. I am to tired to go through the details. Quickly, Hamilton gives up 2 runs in the 11th on a 2 rbi double. That was the only runs the Yankee pitching gave up in the game and many guys pitched. Hamilton was in his second inning of high pressure pitching. Starting innings with a ghost runner each inning. Yankee only run on a Judge single in the 11th. Stanton and Rizzo batting 4th and 5th failed every at bat. No matter, the team should be proud of the way they played under the circumstances and the events of the day.

Laura Koehler said...

Yanks, played to well to lose, but so did the Dodgers and someone had to lose. Cortes tomorrow. Bullpen was hard used tonight. Could be tough game to get through. Soto, another off day?

Would have it have been better to lose by 8 runs? Not really, the guys showed a lot of grit.

G Stanton (R) DH

G Torres (R) 2B
D LeMahieu (R) 3B

Need Cortes to pitch well, no more than a run, max 2. Need the lineup to score runs, 5 or more.

Manny Carbrera said...

Would love to even this series today.

Stan the Man said...

Cortes struggling again, and this time at home. 2-2 thru four innings. Yankee bats so far matching runs given up by Cortes.

Yanks down 3-2 after 5.

jimbo said...

Cortes taken out after 5 1/3 innings and another poor performance. Leaves with Yankees down 4-2.

Torres error in 8th on a very likely double play grounder opens flood gates and allows a four run inning putting Yanks down 8-2.

KevMac said...

Yanks lose 11-3. Good score to lose by. Lose first series in a month. Gil tomorrow to prevent a Dodger sweep.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yanks lose 11-3. Yankee runs, Wells ground out rbi and Judge 2 solo home runs. Pitching, ugh, Cortes 5 1/3 innings allows 4 runs and 7 hits, always in trouble, takes the loss. Tonkin 1 2/3 no runs no hits, good job. Kahnle not so good 1/3 inning 4 runs 1 hit 2 walks and Torres costly error. Santana 1 1/3 innings dreadful pitching, 3 runs, 3 hits 2 walks. Cabrera gets last out 0 runs 0 hits. Series is lost. Gil tomorrow for the dreadful espn Sunday night fiasco game.

We lost two games with our best left handed by out of action. Soto is not only our best left handed bat, but possibly the best left handed bat in the game, surely in the top two or three.

Soto out again, 1 game 2 game 3. If Gil does not get help from his lineup, he will have to win the game almost on his own, The kid does not need that kind of pressure. Hope it not a lost weekend.

Final. Yankees win 6-4. Gil was solid, going 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs and keeping the Yankees in the game. Ferguson goes 1/3 inning and earns the win (undeserved). Weaver goes 2 innings allowing 1 run and earn a hold. Holmes throws a scoreless 9th for his 19th save. Lineup in order Cabrera solo HR, Judge rbi double, Grisham when it matter most, a game winning 3 run HR, Judge solo, insurance run HR. Yankees salvage the series without Soto playing.

Likely to see Soto in the KC series. How much?

Howard Hamm said...

Adding to the pressure on Grisham last night when he hit the three run home run, had to be the fans in the ballpark screaming "we want Soto, we want Soto". The fans did not get Soto, but they did get the biggest hit of the game and a win from they guy who they wanted Soto to hit for.
Grisham responded to the pressure of the moment and delivered when it mattered most. Kudos to him. A win for the team from a bench player.

Final. Yankees win 4-2. Rodon in command, goes seven innings allowing 1 run and 5 hits for the win. Hamilton goes the eight allowing 1 run and 2 hits striking out 3. Earn a hold. Tonkin closes out the ninth allowing just a walk and earn just the second save of his MLB career. Yankee offense Verdugo rbi single and LeMahieu sac bunt rbi, The big hit was a two out 2 rbi single by Trevino, yes, when it mattered most. Not bad outcome with three of your opening day lineup not in the game.

Road trip off to a good start as Yanks win 4-2. Rodon with a fine seven innings giving up just 1 run. And Tonkin who had only 1 save in his career closing out the game and getting his 2nd save.

A part of having a top starting rotation is the mixture of pitchers and how they pitch. What is each pitcher's best asset. I believe a rotation that has both left and right-handed pitchers is a plus. Power hard throwers, mixed with stuff pitchers, pitchers who throw with great movement to their pitches, a mixture of combinations can keep the offense of opposing teams guessing. Most important, is throwing strikes, and/or making the hitter a pitch think the pitch will be a strike, even if it is not.

Takes more than overanalyzing stats to win in this league and this is coming from a former stat head with fantasy baseball and baseball in general. When you watch baseball long enough... you realize there are no stats to measure grittyness.

Grosner said...

Based on his current form, if I'm an opposing manager and my pitcher throws a strike to Judge I would yank him out of the game immediately. He should be walked every at bat. Thankfully, the egos of opposing pitchers won't allow that so he continues on an offensive streak unlike any other.

Jill Byrnes said...

Yankees facing a TJ pitcher who hasn't pitched in MLB the last few years. Hope the Yankee lineup doesn't feel sorry for him tonight.

Gus Papa said...

Grosner, The pitcher does not have to throw a pitch to any batter. All the manager needs to do is hold up four fingers to let the umpire know to put the batter on first base intentionally. And yes, the offensive streak Judge is on now is very very rare. But he has had runs like this several times over his career so far. I might add, he is likely one of the top hitters in baseball history, right up there with the names of immortals.
