YANKEE 2024 MLB SEASON -- 162 games to the playoffs

The New York YANKEES  start their 2024 season today.  They start the season with their best pitcher, Gerrit Cole, on the DL (disabled list) and their starting third baseman, DJ LeMahieu also on the DL.  It is estimated that Cole will be out of action for about two months, and LeMahieu out for anywhere from  two weeks to two months.  There are also several other players who will start the season on the DL.

The ultimate goal for the YANKEES is to win the World Series.  There are many thresholds that must be met just to get to the World Series.  Every threshold is met in only one way, WINS.  Wins is the only stat that determines the best players and the best teams in baseball.  Over the 162 game season the teams who win their division will move on to the playoffs, and the next teams in each league with the most wins will also go on to the playoffs.  The playoffs then start and only the teams that WIN each round move forward towards the World Series.
Any team that loses any round is finished for the season.  Only WINS determines which teams move forward, until only one team in each league is left, and they will be the two teams who will meet in the World Series to determine which team and their players are the best in baseball. No players individual stats mean a thing on which players and teams reach the World Series.  Learn this fans, if you haven't already or if you are new to baseball, only WINS determines which players are and which team is the World Champions of baseball, by winning the World Series.

The YANKEES have upgraded their lineup and roster significantly by adding Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Marcus Stroman to the team for the 2024 season.  Anthony Volpe will be in his second season and still on the improve.  Austin Wells, a promising youngster, has been added to the catching ranks. The YANKEES, will be looking for help from several young pitchers until their 'ace' Cole returns to the starting rotation.

In other news, this blog, the WIN METHOD YANKEE baseball blog, will break two billion views in the next several months.  The WIN METHOD blog is the number one YANKEE baseball blog in the world with readers and contributors of opinions from all around the world.  Yes, 2,000,000,000 views, from all over the world.  Thank you all, wherever you are from for your viewership and your opinions.

As the season begins, lets all get behind and support our team, the New York YANKEES, and their run to the World Series.  It will not be easy, there are thirty teams with the same goal.

Again, thank you everyone, for making the WIN METHOD what it is today, the best blog, forum, or site in the world, just as you all are, the best in the world readers and posters.

LETS GO YANKEES  ----------  LETS GO YANKEES  -----------  LETS GO YANKEES

Yanks up 8-0 after 5.

Final. Yankees win 11-5. The win tonight insures the Yanks win this four game series with the Royals, and will play for a sweep of the series tomorrow in game four. Poteet went 5 1/3 strong innings giving up 2 runs and earns the win. Hamilton goes 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs in a poor effort. Kahnle goes 1/3 inning allowing a hit and a walk before getting the out. Not good. Weaver goes 1 scoreless inning. Ferguson pitches the final scoreless inning. The offense in order. First inning, Verdugo 2 rbi single, Rizzo sac fly rbi, Trevino 3 run home run. Fifth inning, Stanton 2 run home run. Eighth inning , Torres 3 run home run. That's all 11 runs. Three crooked number scoring innings.

Yankees trail 2-0 after six. The lineup has been pathetic today and are without a hit. Three more innings and that could change in the blink of an eye. Judge K'd in first two at bats.

Jeff Miller said...

Yankees score 3 in 8th and take 3-2 lead. Will the bullpen hold it.

Yanks23245 said...

Holmes blows it. A dreadful game turned into a win, turned into a blown save and a loss.

Jimmy Thames said...

After the first three games, a very sad loss today, especially after taking the lead in the 8th inning.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 4-3 in down, up, down game. Cortes goes seven great innings allowing 2 runs keeping the Yankees in the game. Weaver pitches a scoreless 8th after the Yanks take the lead in the top of the 8th. Holmes in for the 9th and gives the game away allowing 2 runs and takes the bad loss. Yankees did not have a hit over six innings. Got their first hit in the seventh. Then in the eighth, Rizzo a solo HR. After Wells and Grisham hits put men on 1st and 3rd, pinche runner James scores tying run on Volpe ground out rbi. Soto rbi single gives Yanks 3-2 lead. Judge strikes out to end the inning, his fourth strikeout of the game. Win series but lose sweep. Not a good day for Yankee fans. YOU CAN'T WIN THEM ALL. Take the bad with all the good.

Boston/Yankee said...

Hope today turn into a wakeup call going into Boston.

Judge looked awfully bad today, missing every think thrown to him, and swinging at pitches no where near the plate. I guess anyone can have a rotten day.

Forget today, what's done is done. Tomorrow the Yanks open a three game series with the sux in Boston. Gil, Rodon, and Stroman starters. Just win the series and move on.

BIGTIMEYANKEE said...

Let's not become like the other forums. They are losers. Our team loses, so what, every team loses games. Any player can have a bad game and cost his team the game. It happens. Even the greatest players of all time had bad games and likely cost their team a game here and there. Forget about it.

John Delasandro said...

Didn't look like it was the Yankees day as the game was played. I still thought a 2 run lead could be overcome. With the 3 runs in the eighth I thought we would win. Didn't happen. The KC bullpen gave the game away, Holmes gave it back.

Boston/Yankee said...

Make amends for today's loss. Take it out on the sux over the weekend.

Gil McKenzie said...

Gil starts tonight and has been pitching brilliantly. Yankee lineup will need to do better than yesterday, particularly Judge. A four strikeout game is not good by any means. And I believe Judge would be the first one to admit it, and want to make amends quickly.

Yankeeforever said...

I have read that Boone is thinking about the possibility of playing Stanton in the outfield in the Boston series. There is absolutely one million percent no good that come from Stanton on the field ever again, until maybe when he retires.

Kahnle goes 2/3 inning 0 runs, Ferguson 1 1/3 innings 0 runs, Gonzalez 2/3 inning 0 runs, and Tonkin 1 1/3 innings 0 runs. Four scoreless innings from a very nice, albeit, unflashy bullpen. Scoring, first inning Verdugo 2 run HR. Fourth inning Stanton scores on error, no rbi. Fifth inning Verdugo rbi double, Rizzo rbi single. Ninth inning, Trevino solo HR, Judge rbi double, Verdugo rbi single.

The Yankee outfield, Verdugo in left, Judge in center, Soto in right is the best outfield in baseball right now. Both offensively and defensively.

You want to make it better? Bring up Dominquez and put in the outfield.

Wait, I am not finished, then move Verdugo to first base.

Rizzo can still stay on the team or get rid of him.

The one player who does need to go is Stanton, one way or the other.

Dag Traweck said...

bigbadwolf, sometimes the answer is right in front of you. I hope the Yankees can see that. Build with what you have in house. Dominguez would had so much to the lineup. It can be done right now. Verdugo is athletic, I don't think he would have any problem at first base.

A Verdugo (L) RF
G Stanton (R) DH
A Rizzo (L) 1B
G Torres (R) 2B
A Wells (L) C
D LeMahieu (R) 3B

Do it again. Rodon keep us close. Lineup scores runs. Results should be a win.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Looking at the lineup and what bigbadwolf wrote, Dominguez takes Stanton's spot and Rizzo could be the DH. That would be a very potent top and middle of the lineup.

Yankeefan2 said...

Rodon puts Yankees in hole 3-0 after first inning.

Norm Jackson said...

Rodon has nothing tonight and is getting hammered. Has Yanks down 5-2 after 2 and has thrown 62 pitches.

candycane said...

Yanks down 5-2 after 2.

Victor Grandozi said...

Rodon grinds thru five innings throwing 109 pitches and leaves down 5-2.

muchomachoman said...

After watching game, could you all just imagine the possible outcome if Dominguez was in lineup instead of Stanton. Even with his home runs, for the most part Stanton is a black hole, and more so when it matters most.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankee lose 8-4 and look bad. Rodon went five innings giving up 5 runs in the first two innings and takes the loss. He was pretty bad tonight. But it happens. Marinaccio went 2 innings giving up 1 run and Gonzalez went 1 inning giving up 2 runs. Yankee runs, LeMahieu 2 rbi single. Soto solo HR. LeMahieu ground out rbi. That was the game. Rubber game tomorrow night.

James Douglas said...

I wonder if the stat frauds keep stats how much a batter swings and misses at a pitch and how many inches this miss it by. I would think Stanton leads all of baseball in that stat. He misses some pitches by anywhere from a foot (which is close for him) to two feet and few times more than that.

Ian Collins said...

I was quickly dismayed after the first two innings. To his credit Rodon did go five innings with 100 plus pitches. Plus the Yankee lineup did fail several times in big spots. Win tomorrow and all is forgotten.

Carlos Pepe said...

Why is Stanton batting 5th? He is a rally killer. He can't hit sliders low and away. Put him in the bottom of the lineup of not at all.

Mark Wagoner said...

Stroman and Yankees playing for a series win tonight. The sux after facing Gil and Rodon will see a change of pace against Stroman. Lineup needs to do better. It all comes down to producing when it counts most.

Dodgers saying pitcher Yamamoto may be placed on the DL with 'triceps issue'. I believe it stems from his start against the Yankees when he threw many pitchers at a higher velocity than he had been throwing all year. I also believe in his start in NY against the Yankees he was trying to prove what he thinks the Yankees missed in not signing him. His and the Dodgers problem and thankfully not the Yankees.

Yanks23245 said...

Yanks trail 4-1 after five innings and only have one hit, a Judge first inning home run. Lineup has been horrible, and Stroman is done for the night, throwing over 100 pitchers for second straight game. As I write Trevino leads off sixth with home run. Now 4-2.

candycane said...

Yanks down 4-3 after 6.

Yankees load bases win no outs in top of seventh, but fail to score as three hitters fail to produce when it mattered most. Torres and Trevino biggest culprits. Watch the game replay and see why.

BIGTIMEYANKEE said...

OK, yes it was a loss, yes it was only one game, but it was also humiliating and embarrassing.
Yanks lose 9-3, when failing to score in the seventh inning with the bases loaded, no outs, and the score 4-3 at the time. I hope they think about, and I hope more that they care how bad they looked to their fans in the last three innings of tonight's game.

Carl Hooks said...

Yanks lose 9-3. Ugly game.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 9-3. Stroman take the loss, the bullpen was a disgrace. The lineup scored 3 runs, 2 on solo home runs, and 1 on a wild pitch. Not one time did the lineup produce when it mattered in the entire game. The ultimate failure when trailing by 1 run in the 7th inning the Yankees failed to score when they had the bases loaded and no outs.

I would just go with LeMahieu at 1b and Cabrera at 3b. Cabrera being a switch hitter is a plus. Comes what with some big when it matters most hits and has speed and some pop. To conclude, Cabrera playing everyday instead of Rizzo is a plus to the lineup.

Yankees likely to call up Rice from AAA to take Rizzo spot on roster. He is a left-handed bat. Logical choice at this time.

Then the scratching of the blackboard began. Holmes in for the 9th, first two batters, single and 2 run HR. Lead cut in half with no outs. Holmes get the next three batters with some help from the defense preventing the tying run from coming to bat. Yankee offense with little ball tonight. Volpe rbi single. Stanton rbi single. Torres rbi sac fly. LeMahieu rbi sac fly.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 8-3. Stroman 6 2/3 innings for the win and allowing all 3 Atlanta runs. Tonkin 1/3 inning 0 runs. Weaver and Bickford the 8th and 9th innings without any runs. Judge 2 run HR and GIDP for a run with no rbi, and a bases loaded walk for an rbi Torres rbi double. Cabrera 2 rbi double. Grisham solo HR. Series even, rubber game tomorrow.

Earl Lennon said...

Would be a plus to win this series. We have had some injuries, poorly pitched games, so do every team. Shake off the downs and create new ups.

Looks like Stanton may be sidelined for a while.

If Cortes pitches today anyway near like he did last time out, the Yankees will take this series.

Yanks go down without a whimper, lose game 3-1, lose series.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankee lose 3-1. Lose series. Cortes did his job, going seven innings giving up 3 runs. Kahne pitched a scoreless 8th and Holmes pitched a scoreless 9th. Lineup did not do their job, scoring just 1 run on a Volpe rbi double.

YankeeMike said...

Yanks have lost three series in a row. Off day tomorrow. Then reset, play Mets twice and Blue Jays for four games all on the road. Take 5 of the 6 games and all will be fine.

Ursala Pei said...

Cole and Gil start the two game series with the Mets this week.

Steve(winstheonlystat) said...

How bad have the Yankees been playing. Right around .500 ball or a bit over for three weeks now. For the Yankees who are a .600+ team that is bad. But then can be expected, because it balance the streak(s) of .700 ball. Not many teams play .700 ball for a season. Almost always in the current playoff system, playing .600 ball all but guarantees a playoff spot. The Yankees will make the playoffs, hopefully when going to the playoffs they will have a better team than they have now, and they are now a very good team. Therefore, I suggest the stat frauds peddle their garbage opinions, thoughts, and ideas, of gloom and doom to their compadres, because people here and people who know baseball, know better.

Asoka Gangadeen said...

The Yankees travel across the river to play Mets twice.

On Thursday night Biden and Trump will have a debate. It will be held by CNN with Taper and Bash as moderators. Biden will be so heavily drugged we would put most drug addicts to shame. The moderators will be heavily in favor of Biden and will cover for him when he blunders. On the other hand Taper and Bash will try to take Trump down lie about his statements when he makes a fool of Biden. This is a general consensus of most voters across America.

Diane Stahl said...

Cole with his second start of the season tonight against Mets. Five innings, no runs, three hits one walk?

Steve(winstheonlystat) said...

Tonight the Yankees will play their 81st game of the season. Halfway mark. Right now they are playing .650 baseball. In general, .600 baseball will get a team to the playoffs. The Yankees will make the playoffs. Now is the time for them to assess their needs by position, and then try to upgrade the positions they feel need to upgraded for the playoffs. ---- Not the positions the ignorant stat fraud fans think should be upgraded.

Grosner said...

Todays Yankee Lineup

Gerrit Cole RHP

A Volpe (R) SS
J Soto (L) RF
A Judge (R) CF
G Torres (R) 2B
A Verdugo (L) LF
J Davis (R) 1B
D LeMahieu (R) 3B
J Jones (R) DH
J Trevino (R) C

Davis, the old new guy at 1B. Soto and Verdugo only lefty bats in lineup. Hope Cole gets in a good groove.

Carl Hooks said...

Steve(winstheonlystat), looking at tonight's lineup, it looks like you are right about the Yankees needing to upgrade at a couple of positions.

Manny Carbrera said...

About time for a run of wins again. Score early with a couple of nice innings.

Steve(winstheonlystat) said...

Top of first, Yanks load bases with no outs. Next three batters, K K K. Sad.

Monte Bingham said...

Cole looks as if he should have made three or four more starts in the minors and built up to 90 pitches. Getting hit pretty hard and has given up two home runs, and three runs with a runner thrown out at home in two innings. Yanks trail 3-0.

reinvaldez said...

Yanks down 6-0 thru fourth as Cole continues to be hammered, giving up four home runs.

candycane said...

Yanks down 9-1 after 6.

Chris Blacker said...

Yankees try, but fall short, losing 9-7 as Cole pitches a putrid game.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 9-4. Cole goes 4 terrible innings allowing 6 runs, 7 hits, and 4 walks taking the loss single handedly. A quartet of relievers allow 3 runs, 3 hits, and 0 walks. Yankee offense, Soto a solo HR, Wells a pinch hit rbi single, and Judge and rbi double and a grand slam HR. Judge has now started two games and has yet to show anything that would indicate he is ready to pitch at the MLB level. The question is why was he brought back before he was ready?

Antonious said...

Yanks go down 9-7 as Cole buries them giving up six runs in four innings with four home runs.

Bond007 said...

I expected more from Cole. I got nothing. Gil tomorrow to split the series.

Iceman said...

In my opinion I think Cole is tentative and holding back. I guess we will find out down the road a bit.

Nathan Riley said...

When you score 7 runs you shouldn't lose unless you get no pitching. The Yankees got no pitching last night. I think Cole rehabbing for only three games in the minors was the problem. MLB where the games matter most should not be used for rehab games.

Just my opinion. I would have Cabrera hitting cleanup tonight and LeMahieu in front of Verdugo. Puts a contact switch hitter behind Judge. Maybe even Rice at leadoff and Volpe in the five hole. It all means nothing, just something to play with and think about.

yankeeclipper said...

Yankees in Toronto tonight for four game series. Time to start playing winning baseball again. This losing streak is not good. Yankees start Rodon, Stroman, Cortes, and Cole. What we get, from the starters, who knows based on recent starts from all four.

Six lefty bats. More speed in the lineup than usual. The starting rotation needs to produce.

In regard to Biden, yes, he is old and demented. Replacing him is easy, any useless garbage liberal, progressive, democrat can do that. Then you will have a younger more forceful candidate who can articulate their policies. The PROBLEM, the policies will be the same as they are now, and the policies are destroying America and you. NEVER ever vote for any progressive, liberal, democrat. They are criminals, corrupt, liars, thieves, crooks and cheats who want to destroy America and you. And they will if they are elected.
