WIN METHOD --- WINTER BREAK --- HOT STOVE --- HEADED TO 2023 SEASON

The 2022 season is over. Another solid winning season making the playoffs. Sadly another season of getting knocked out of the playoffs and not making the World Series. A good season, yes, to make the playoffs, but not good enough to make the World Series.

The hot stove has been hot and is burning strong. Many big names have changed uniforms so far. The YANKEES re-signed free agent Aaron Judge and signed a top of the rotation starter in free agent Carlos Rodon.

As I told all the WIN METHOD fans in my July 5, 2022 blogpost, Aaron Judge was not going to sign with any other team but the YANKEES. Attaining Rodon is a fine upgrade to the starting rotation.  With the addition of Rodon, the rotation is more balanced with three right handed starters and two left handed starters. Cole, Cortes, Rodon, Louie Louie, and Montas.

With Benintendi lost to free agency there is an opening in left field, I would think and hope the YANKEES will give Oswaldo Cabrera every chance to earn and then hold the left field position. Then there is the infield to deal with. First base as of now is the only infield position set in stone. Anthony Rizzo has first base locked up. There may or may not be a deal coming this winter to help decide the infield spots at second base, third base, and shortstop. But the YANKEES have an abundance of bodies in LeMahieu, Torres, Peraza, Kiner-Falefa, Donaldson, and possible even Volpe to fill the three positions. How things shake out during the winter break and then spring training will eventually tell the story.

The bullpen has many arms and should be no issue throughout the 2023 season, There are a couple of youngsters in the minors who are still developing and who knows just when the light bulb goes off for them and they are ready to make an impact at the major league level.

At the catcher position. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing what left handed hitting catcher Ben Rortvedt will bring to the team. Rortvedt may provide a big surprise. I would  think the YANKEES will not carry three catchers and either Trevino or Higashioka will be gone.

In the minor leagues the YANKEES have a bunch of  fine looking youngsters at all positions, as WIN METHOD as they can be, how they bloom and grow over time will determine their ultimate value.

WIN METHOD fans, I can't say this often enough. You are the smartest and most knowledgeable baseball fans in the world. You make fans at all the other blogs, sites, forums, or whatever look silly. You all, have made the WIN METHOD blog the number one go to site for YANKEE baseball talk and information, You fans are positive, uplifting, and use common sense. All of you KNOW baseball. Around February 2023, this blog will attain one billion five hundred million views, 1,500,000,000. Thank you all, you truly are the greatest YANKEE fans in the world.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS, to each and every one of you wherever you are across this planet. I still get amazed when I look and see the hundreds of countries all of the viewers of the WIN METHOD blog come from. Everyone, have a happy and healthy new year. Lets win a World Series. LETS GO YANKEES.

No pitcher named yet by Yankees. Six hours to game time, I guess they are trying to figure out a plan for today and tomorrow. Would be super to win both games, but I would be happy with one. That would mean winning this series. Now if the bats don't let us down and explode we could win both games despite the pitching woes.

Rortvedt makes his Yankee debut. Make it memorable Ben.

James Douglas, what the joe-bama/commie MALADY administration is doing is a disgrace to every America citizen. What is depressing, many citizens support it, many tolerate and accept it, and many do not have the wherewithal to understand what is happening. I agree with your final sentence completely. The result of any penalty is that the penalty must change/stop future similar actions by people. If people know their punishment and the punishment is final, they likely will never commit the foul deed.

The Aaron Hicks headache is finally over for Yankees fans but the timing of the move could not possibly be more hilarious.
Watching a month-and-a-half of Aaron Hicks suiting up for the New York Yankees when most fans would've bitten the bullet in the offseason and designated him for an assignment then has been a constant source of headaches. The veteran outfielder has been a negative on the field in just about every conceivable facet.
Yet, he remained with the club as Yankees GM Brian Cashman seemed to want to avoid eating the big money left on his contract. And in the Thursday win to conclude the heated series against the Blue Jays, Hicks finally showed something good with one of his best games of the past year-plus, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while contributing solidly defensively.
Naturally, two days later, Aaron Hicks was informed that he was designated for assignment.

VincentVanGoYankees said...

Hicks now can go play golf, thank God.

Hicks has been let go and the Yankees will pay him 28 million dollars over the next three years. There is no reason for anyone to feel sorry for him. Most Americans do not make that much in the lifetime.

Final. Yankees win 7-4 in ten innings. Brito went four innings giving up all 4 Reds runs and 4 hits. He left with the Yankees down 4-1. The Yankees scored 3 runs in the 5th to tie the game and it stayed that way through nine innings. In the tenth, Judge rbi single followed by Rizzo 2 run home run won the game 7-4. Now the best part, Yankee relievers Marinaccio 2 innings, King 2 innings, Holmes 1 inning and Weber 1 inning combined for 6 scoreless inning allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk. Holmes gets the win and Weber gets the save. Weber became the seventh Yankee pitcher to earn a save this season. Yanks take this series with a chance for the sweep tomorrow with Luis Luis Severino making is first start of the season.

Brito was weak spot today. Bullpen was golden with six shutout innings. Judge and Rizzo with three RBI's each, and IKF with one RBI.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 4-1. Sweep series in Cincinnati. Luis Luis goes 4 2/3 innings in his first start. Looked better as each inning passed. Allowed one run on an umpiring blunder. Abreu went 1 1/3, Cordero an inning, Peralta and inning, all three getting a hold. Holmes closed in out in the ninth, but not before loading the bases to make pleasant game somewhat aggravating in the last half inning. Offense was Bader 2 run home run, Torres solo HR, and Volpe rbi double. Nice off day tomorrow heading home.

Final. Yankees win 6-5 in ten innings. Cole was the problem tonight, giving up 5 runs in five innings. Was pretty pathetic. Yankee bullpen Marinaccio saved Yankees in relief of Cole pitching out of big jam created by Cole, and going two scoreless innings. Peralta went one scoreless inning. King pitched two scoreless innings and prevented the fake 10th inning runner from scoring and earned the win. In a nutshell, Cole five innings 5 runs. The bullpen five innings 0 runs. Yankees down 4-0, because of Cole, before Bader solo HR in 4th. Yanks tied game in 5th on Rizzo rbi double, LeMahieu rbi single, and Bader sac fly. In the bottom of the ninth Judge hit a solo HR to tie game at 5. Volpe sac fly in 10th for the win.

We have heard about the US Government debt and the impending possible default by the US if the debt limit is not raised. The politicians need to come to an agreement to avoid default.

1. The president has not put forward a plan/bill to avoid default except to say raise the debt limit.
2. The Senate has not put forward a plan/bill to avoid default and have done nothing.
3. The House of Representatives have passe a bill raising the debt limit and cutting spending.

Now, I would like to ask this of every American voter/citizen. You work and you earn $1,000.00 every week. Your total living expenses without any unforeseen events/issues are $1,200.00 every week. How long do you believe you will be able to live this way before you are completely in default?

Question for everyone...should the US Government be allowed to spend more than what it confiscates from you/we the American people?

YES--vote liberal democrat and watch America being destroyed.
NO--vote conservative republican and save America.

Boone lost game. I believed this as soon as I saw Cortes come out to pitch the seventh inning. Cortes is a fantastic five to six inning pitcher most every game he starts. Pitching a seventh inning well and would be a miniscule rarity.

Yanks23245 said...

Tony Manchu.....I agree, Boone does the same thing so often, it is infuriating. Tries to get an extra out or two, and then either turns the game into a tossup or loses it because of his inability to manage with his mind and feel for each game.

will-i-am said...

I did not post this in my Final score post last night because I wanted to see if anyone thought what I did. Watching the game, I was shocked to see Cortes come our for the seventh inning. I believed there should have been no way he should have pitched at that point in time. The Yankees led by four runs, Cortes pitched brilliantly and I believe if he can give five innings and keep you in the game he was successful. He can go the sixth inning every now and then. Yesterday was that day he could go into the sixth. He had a decent pitch count and did not pitch under pressure. Going six innings was a bonus and a goldmine. When Boone sent him out in the seventh, my heart fell and I thought, OH NO. We all saw what happened, and Boone's awful decision lit a fire and opened the flood gates for the Orioles. No one can say for sure what would have happened if the reliever came in under no pressure and a four run lead against a team that was struggling for six innings. Boone has made this say mistake numerous times this season.

okiened said...

I always saw Cortes as a solid 6 inning pitcher. He was terrific last night for that period. I believe he was always a long reliever, so 5 to 6 innings is what his limit is. The mistake was letting him pitch the 7th inning.

UPDATE ON RIZZO ---- LOOKS LIKE GOOD NEWS

It was a scary scene at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as first baseman Anthony Rizzo stumbled forward, his glove falling limply to his side before he went down to one knee on the infield dirt.

While completing a double play to end the top of the sixth inning, Rizzo’s head collided with Fernando Tatis Jr.’s hip as he applied the tag after fielding a throw from catcher Kyle Higashioka. After being tended to by the Yankees’ medical staff for a few minutes, Rizzo returned to his feet and walked off the field under his own power.

The Yankees later announced that Rizzo had sustained a neck injury on the play and exited the 10-7 victory over the Padres for precautionary reasons. Rizzo went through the concussion protocol following the game, so he was unable to speak to the media, but manager Aaron Boone gave an encouraging report.

“Rizzo’s good. [We’re] just being cautious there,” Boone said. “He went through all the testing and was fine. We'll just keep an eye on him tonight and tomorrow.”

The Yankees headed to Seattle after the series finale to begin a six-game West Coast road trip, and Boone added that it’s possible Rizzo will be able to play in Monday’s opener against the Mariners.

“Yeah, I would say at this point, it looks that way,” Boone said.

Final. Yankees win 10-4. German goes 6 1/3 giving up 4 runs. Marinaccio 2/3 and 0 runs. Abreu final 2 innings of scoreless ball. German earns the win. Yankee bats alive tonight. Judge 2 HRs and 3 RBIs. Calhoun 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Bauers HR and 2 RBIs. Kiner- Falefa 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Higashioka 2 hits and 1 RBI. Bader did leave the game and first report was tightness in hamstring. Again, we hope for the best.

no Bader in lineup tonight - so far no IL stint.

So Yankees bench tonight is one player plus the backup catcher. Does any other team work this way?

Final. Yankees lose 1-0 in ten innings. Game was a joke because of home plate umpire, but he was bad/good to both teams equally. Marinaccio takes the little league loss facing just one batter. Yankees down 7-2 after four innings. Stanton and Donaldson each with a home rum for Yankee runs.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 8-4. Louie Louie lost it in first inning allowing 6 runs. Yankee runs solo HR from Stanton and a solo HR and a 2 run HR from Donaldson. Kahnle pitched one shutout inning. So all three Yankee returning DL guys made their comebacks and all did better than every other Yankee on the field. Louie Louie did go four innings and allowed 7 runs in total and took the lost. His first inning was horrid.

Saul Irving said...

Yankees win 6-3. Now that was much better than last night and a win besides. Now I can go to bed in a better mood.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees win 6-3. Cole goes six innings giving up one run and earns the win. Peralta in for the 7th and gets no one out, allows 2 runs. King in to pick up Peralta and gets the side out without further damage and then pitches a scoreless 8th. That is producing when it matters most. King earns a bonafide hold. Holmes in for a scoreless 9th and the save. The Yankees scored all six of their runs on home runs. Bauers with two 2 run home runs. Judge and Cabrera with solo home runs. Judge with a smashing catch that might have saved the game. Hard hit ball to right field, Judge racing back to the wall makes a one hand over the shoulder catch running into the gate to the bullpen which is part of the right field wall. Smashes into the gate breaking it open and holding on to the ball and likely preventing a possible LA big inning. WHEN IT MATTERS MOST FANS, WHEN IT MATTERS MOST. Don't ever believe any stat fraud stats.

Domingo Orengo said...

Cole did what he needed to do. Six innings, one run and left up 5-1. Peralta didn't, then King and Holmes did. A win is a win is a win.

Good story regarding Cabrera. He was demoted to AAA when the Yankees got three players back from the DL. Greg Allen got hurt the other night and put on the DL. Cabrera was call and told to fly to LA to rejoin the team. He flew out of Newark NJ airport and arrive in LA just before the game. Got to the ballpark and was put in left field late in the game. He came to bat in the ninth inning and hit a home run for an all important insurance run.

Tommy Lee said...

Sunday night game. Unheard of when baseball was more about fun, the fans, and competition than todays baseball. Now baseball is corrupt, money, and damn the fans.

John Hartnett said...

About Volpe, I'm all for giving a very promising rookie enough time to get used to the majors. The key component of that is how the rookie adapts to pitchers after they have adapted to him. So far, after two months, that hasn't happened with Volpe, as his performance would indicate. He just seems lost at the plate with no sign of getting out of the black hole he is in. Question is, how long can the Yankees wait?

YankeeMike said...

John Hartnett, I agree, Volpe looks lost right now. He needs a reboot mentally. If we can see it, why can't the hitting coach or anyone in the Yankee organization. No question he has the talent, but adjustments need to be made. He may be just too young. They have cameras and replays. It is so obvious.

Nick Polito said...

The light bulb goes on at different ages for anyone. It is almost like a light switch. Right now Volpe is not helping the team, however, in any one one at bat he can come up big. That is what needs to be developed and honed. I would definitely send him to AAA. Tell him why, work with him, build back his confidence, he has the skills. Do it already. Wake up, Boone and others.

Vince/Brooklyn said...

Regarding espn and pay per view streaming channels. If MLB was serious about increasing the popularity of baseball they would eliminate all these blackouts. it's blackout out when the team travels outside the zone, even the West coast (2) it's blackout when Prime, Apple, ESPN channels broadcast (I think I get FOX and local) (3) the game is sold out. They hired a guy who was going to make changes but nothing changes. So I pay for MLB.TV and have to use audio and/or gamecast for a game I paid for and want to watch. And they wonder why they are losing fans ???? All about the money and not the fans. (Going to the game is too expensive too)
