It's been a long time between blog posts and I have a lot to say, so hang on fans.
This is going to be a long off season waiting for baseball to resume in 2022. There are so many questions. How long will the owner/player collective bargaining take? Could there be a delay to the start of the 2022 season? What rule changes will be implemented or restored? Will there be a designated hitter in the National League? Sticky stuff agreement? Dead ball or juiced ball? New commissioner or does the dolt imbecile Manfred stay? Will Hal Steinbrenner spend and try to build the Yankees? Who will the YANKEES get rid of by hook or crook, deal or dump? Will the top minor leaguers be given a chance to play on the big stage if any prove themselves in spring training or continue to be held back? Will manager Aaron Boone ever say a negative about anyone who doesn't go all out? who always swings from the heals? who does not hit against the shift when it is right there in front of them? passed balls? dumb base running? constant misplays? not hitting behind runners? watching their batted balls that could be doubles or triples turn into singles because they did not run hard? and my pet peeve, failure to score runners from third base with less than two outs?
I would like to congratulate the WORLD CHAMPION Atlanta Braves for winning the 2021 World Series. The Braves are the best team in baseball and their players are the best in baseball for what they accomplished in winning the World Series. Each year, as always, only the best team and the best players win the World Series. This is irrefutable no matter what the stat frauds would like you to believe. No individual stat or combination of stats overshadows why baseball is played...it is to win games. Baseball has set rules as to how teams qualify for the playoffs, right now it is ten teams based on winning and wins. Nothing else matters. Advancement through the playoffs is based on wins and winning. Nothing else matters. The best team and players are the last one winning the final series of the season, the World Series. Nothing else matters. Do not believe the words, excuses, denials, and lies from the stat frauds. Nothing is more important than wins and winning. The following paragraphs discusses wins and winning,
It is amazing how you can define almost every game by production when it matters most. Production when it matters most wins games and winning games is the desired result you want from the players on your team. The players who are more interested in their individual stats and value them more than the team winning are the players you do not want on your team.
That is how the WIN METHOD values players. Each year players are valued on how far they help lead their team. One, the ten teams who make the playoffs. Two, how far the players lead their team into the playoffs. Third the players who reach the World Series and win the World Series.
The ten teams that reach the playoffs have reached the highest level of competition by eliminating two/thirds of the other teams. Now the best are playing only the best for a very short timeframe. That is when produce when it matters most reaches its highest level.
Each series a team is eliminated until you reach the final two teams, the best of the best.
Voila, you have the WIN METHOD, undeniably the best player evaluation tool in the world. No made up convolute man made fake and useless formulas. No exit velocity, no how far a ball is hit, no how much nor how many and individual reached. No fake ERA's. WINS is all the matters and WINS and winning is the only stat that determines the best in the game.
Why do stat frauds hate, bemoan, demean, and deny the WIN METHOD? Stat frauds live by individual statistics. Their best players are only the best based on their numbers. They do not care if their high individual stat players do not help their team make the playoff, the stat frauds just blame the other players on the team. However when the players with lesser individual stats lead their team to the playoffs and beyond and even win the World Series the stat frauds do not recognize them as the best. I guess the stat frauds players who produce most when it matters most is just dumb luck. In my opinion stat frauds and the word dumb are synonyms.
Why haven't the YANKEES made the playoffs since MR. S. passed away? There is only one answer. The answer is the person running the team, Hal Steinbrenner. There have been many opinions expressed all through the sports media and other sources regarding Hal's operating priorities, his direction, his wisdom, and more. No one knows for sure and all are just guessing. But, whatever Hal is doing, it appears it needs to change direction and it needs to change to a positive direction. In my opinion, I believe much of the problem is the analytics being used. Numbers and stat sheets do not win games, players on the field playing baseball for the team to succeed wins games.
Here is a fact for all baseball fans to think about. Since the inception of the WIN METHOD the YANKEES have had the best record in baseball. The most wins and least losses than any other team in either league despite the present owner and his decisions. His father gave him a golden goose and he is turning it into a tarnished golden goose. Time for some polish and elbow grease Hal.
So, now we watch and wait to see what the YANKEES do this hot stove season. It is up to them, nothing any fan or pundit says or thinks makes a difference. I feel I have done my part in advising on WIN METHOD players. Not everyone chosen and or signed by the YANKEES is WIN METHOD. I can do nothing about that, I do not coach nor manage nor run the team. Mr. S. was a strong and staunch believer in the WIN METHOD since its live inception. The success of the YANKEE team from the WIN METHOD inception until the death of Mr. S. was extraordinary. Hal Steinbrenner is not his father and that alone may be the biggest issue why the YANKEES haven't reached the WORLD SERIES for far too long now. Let's see what happens in 2022. We can only hope things change for the positive..

I can remember several times when the climate change supporters claimed the end of the world via several different disaster modes. None ever came to fruition, but they keep saying the same lies over and over. Now every fire, blizzard, cold wave, heat wave, tornado, hurricane, tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc are caused by climate change. But for the past thousands of years before the climate changers came up with their lies, none of the events mentioned here ever occurred.
Jeter while running the Marlin franchise surrounded himself with smart baseball people and completely rebuilt their farm system. That has put the Marlins in a position to succeed as long as ownership doesn’t blow it up. The Marlins are in much better shape today than when Jeter's group bought the team from Jeffery Loria, who completely drove the franchise into the ground.
Jeter not only gets his $25 million back, he likely makes an nice profit based on today’s franchise value.

Today's MLB update. The owners self-imposed deadline to reach an agreement with the Players is today, and the owners took a “more threatening” tone to the players today voicing a willingness to miss a month’s worth of regular-season games. The first meeting between the two parties today lasted less than an hour, though the expectation is that negotiations will continue throughout the day.

Todays second early evening baseball update. With three hours remaining until Major League Baseball’s stated end of February deadline for a new collective bargaining agreement that avoids disruption to the start of the regular season, there seems to be some progress in negotiations. The parties continue to talk deep into the evening, and various reports suggest the league has moved in the players direction on a few key areas.
The owner have offered more player favorable provisions than it had done in the past on issues like the league minimum salary, the bonus pool for pre-arbitration players and the competitive balance tax. However there hasn’t been enough movement for a deal to be imminent, but it’s possible the sides make enough progress tonight that the league pushes back its deadline to avoid game cancelations until tomorrow so they could continue to negotiate.
Close of day MLB update. Last minute and both sides pushing negotiations. Should have been months ago. Both sides are apparently in agreement on a 12-team playoff in the upcoming collective bargaining agreement, reports. As part of that deal, the owners are likely to keep the penalties for exceeding the luxury tax in a similar level as they have been under the previous collective bargaining agreement.
The owner’s desire for an expanded postseason field has been evident throughout negotiations. MLB had pushed to expand from the previous 10-team field up to 14 teams throughout the discussions, but the players have resisted that possibility. It seems the owners have agreed to settle for 12 teams during this round of negotiations, presumably by adding one more wild card team in each league.

MLB late this morning. There’s no indication when the 2022 season will start following a contentious set of labor negotiations that resulted in commissioner Rob Manfred canceling the first two series of the year. The general expectation is that further games are quite likely to be lost as well, given the acrimonious nature of talks to date.
Acrimonious was being nice. It looks as if the owners were trying to get away dirty tricks at the last minute after a long day of negotiations. The players caught them. Now let's see what happens next.
I have seen it commented on a couple times or more in this forum that Biden shut down the U.S. oil and gas industry forcing the U.S. to buy oil and gas from foreign nations, with Russia being the biggest. We buy 600,000 barrels a day from Russia at top global dollar. Logically Biden had reasons to do this. One, cripple the U.S. and harm the American people in their pocketbook and wallet. Two, support his buddy Putin who is lining Biden's pocket with millions of dollars in kickback payments. Both Biden and Putin need to be put to rest.
We hear a lot of talk from people who are stupidly opining on something they know absolutely nothing about and diagnosing someone they have no contact with. These people are saying Putin in mentally declining, insane, a mad man, unhinged and other descriptive words.
On the other hand we hear far less, but some descriptive words about Biden, but to a far less degree. However, people have much contact with Biden, many see him and talk to him everyday.
There is little to no question Biden's mental state and capacity is in steep decline.
My point being, isn't it very possible Putin is doing what he is doing in Ukraine with full knowledge of the sanctions coming, and how the world would react. To the world reaction, Putin likely doesn't give a damn. To the sanction (money/funding), Putin likely has a deal with Xi Jinping and China to supply him with the needed funds.
I have no idea, but it explain much of what Putin is doing. Especially since NATO has shown to be so pussy-footed.

America became energy independent under Trump despite all the roadblocks the democRATS have been putting up forever. Such as preventing new pipelines, preventing exploration on federal lands, preventing shale exploration, and preventing exploration in Alaska. Being energy independent would allow America to supply all its own fuel for all Americans at low prices and also allow America to sell to other countries in the world. Geologists feel that America has over 400 years of oil and gas supply. That would allow enough time for future geniuses to discover and or develop other kinds of fuel in the distant future.
If Biden did shut down the Trump regulations and pipeline, America would not need to buy oil from anyone.
Political donations go to the party who helps the donators. Eliminating the federal rules and regulations created overwhelmingly by the democRATS allowed the oil and gas companies more opportunities in America. A good thing.

Grosner, America was energy independent for the last two years of Trump's presidency and moving in a positive direction. When Biden took over his policies moved America into a negative direction.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) tabulated U.S. energy consumption in 2019 and 2020, and determined that for both full years, counting all energy sources, we were energy independent. Even though U.S. energy production declined by 5% in 2020, energy consumption also declined by 3% as the pandemic impacted the economy.

I have two things to say about this quote.
First of all IMO it's BS. Competitive balance, in regard to the luxury tax thresholds, can only be achieved with a floor and a ceiling - not just a self-imposed ceiling/soft cap. IMO it's absolutely ridiculous to see any team spending less than $100M on player salaries and then expect them to be competitive. Sure, there are exceptions (Tampa Bay and Oakland?) - but it can't be expected. There needs to be a floor to even begin talking about competitive balance IMO.
Secondly, I've been guessing all along that there's an internal struggle amongst the owners (smaller markets vs. bigger markets) that Manfred can't seem to unite, and I think this statement proves it. I heard something interesting yesterday - when the owners vote on something like this, they need 23 out of 30 organizations to adopt/ratify/present their proposals. Even though there's only about 10 organizations that make up the minority of clubs not really spending/(competing), they hold the power (because they number more than 7) as to whether a proposal for any type of cap floor will ever pass. IMO Manfred's hands are tied by these minority owners.
What a bunch of crap.
As a separate side note - I agree with the players' plight to increase minimum salaries and get their top players paid, but can anyone name a workers' union that can demand a larger percentage of revenues from their employers? What gives any employees that right?

I saw the president of the United States lie in his address to the nation telling we the people how great everything is right now and how great everything is going to be.
Then you watch politicians and talking heads from both sides say completely opposite statements about anything and everything that is going on in the world.
I saw the riots of 2020, businesses looted and burned, police attacked, and news people saying it was just people protesting.
Why, America was still importing oil, who knows? Contracts maybe? Refilling reserves? Corruption?
We all find information from government agencies that say things that conflict with each other. Why?
Far too many politicians leave office multi-millionaires. Multiple million-dollar homes, huge stock portfolios all gained by kickbacks and corruption. The few honest ones leave office only slightly better off than when they came into office. The people they serve are their cash cows.
Steve(winstheonlystat), good article and comments. The big picture tells me that people with too much money are bickering on who should have more. Sad. When so much of the population struggles to make ends meet, others just getting by, others making enough and doing reasonably well, others make enough to not give a damn, and others making so much they don't care about anyone but themselves and who to take advantage of to make their next buck.
People can debate each side forever, but I try to ignore all the bickering, insults, name calling and noise. I just look at how things are going for myself, my family, my work, my country. There are always ups and downs for everyone from the middle class down. There is no down from the upper class/elites who are out of touch with people below them.
From what I have seen in the last two decades from presidents is ups and downs. Not on what they say or claim to do and claim not to have done, but on how each's tenure did for me, my family, my work, my country. I saw and felt pluses from Clinton, Bush, and Trump.
I was particularly despised at the way Trump was treated by almost all media, the opposing party, government agencies, and powerful individuals in the DC swamp. Trump, was the non-politician. Trump resonated with the people, the people like me, middle and lower class.
He said what he wanted to do and why, repeatedly. He was lied about, stories were made up about him, people in government lied about him, he was investigated, demeaned, denigrated, repeatedly. His goal was to make America great again. Despite everything that was done to him and is still being done to him, he made America great again. His last year in office was his greatest when he saved millions and millions of lives by clearing the path for drug companies to create a vaccine in of unheard of time from. Regulations were eliminated, he challenge the drug companies and there was a vaccine in just months. Not the five to ten years that every other vaccine took. If Trump was not present when the China Virus struck, and any other person was president, yes millions more people would have died. That is how see it and lived it. Corruption and greed is the problem. The more money government prints, the richer the elites become and the struggle for the middle and lower class gets worse.

You regulars on here probably know me. Some personal information before I say what I need to say. I am 89 years old now and have lived in New York City all my life. I have done fairly well and live better than most. When I need to go out, I hire an armed private security gentleman who escorts me where I need to go. Groceries are delivered, etc. My wife passed away seven years ago, and I live alone. Being old, what I say may because of my age and I am coming to the end of my time on this earth. Younger people may very well not feel the same way. But think about what I say, think long and hard, it's now or later.
I see what is going on in the world today. If Putin and Russia are not stopped now, he will continue to do whatever he wants destroying more countries and taking them over. Then the day of reckoning will come. I feel it should happen now. Take him out now before it is too late.

MLB, MLBPA Reach New Collective Bargaining Agreement
After 99 days, the MLB lockout is finally drawing to a close. The Major League Baseball Players Association has voted to approve the most recent counterproposal from ownership, setting the stage for a new collective bargaining agreement to be ratified. The new CBA will cover the 2022-26 seasons, and the transaction freeze associated with the lockout is expected to be lifted as soon as the agreement is formally ratified. The proposal passed by a vote of 26 to 12 among the MLBPA’s 30 team representatives and eight executive subcommittee members.

2021 Rule 5 Draft Officially Cancel
The 2021 edition of the Rule 5 Draft has been officially canceled. Originally set to take place in December at the end of the Winter Meetings, the R5 was one of the many staples of the baseball calendar postponed by the lockout, and reports surfaced last week that just about all front offices around baseball were in favor of simply canceling this year’s draft.

Opening Day Reportedly Set For April 7
With the new collective bargaining agreement in place, Opening Day will be set for April 7th. It’ll be a 162-game season with full player pay, with the end of the season pushed back three days and doubleheaders in place to compensate for the one-week delayed start. Spring Training games will begin around March 18.
Players will be able to report to spring training tomorrow. The mandatory spring report date is Sunday, March 13th.
MLB had announced yesterday it was canceling games through April 13. However, today’s progress in negotiations led the league to backtrack on that stance. Nothing has been made official on the league’s end — presumably, that’s pending this evening’s ownership ratification, which is expected to be a formality. At that point, the league figures to make a formal announcement on the schedule. Presumably, it’d reinstate the originally scheduled games it nominally wiped out yesterday, but there’s been no word on that yet.
In another notable development, the on-field rules changes put into effect as pandemic protocols have been lifted. The nine-inning doubleheader returns, as do standard rules for extra innings. The “ghost runner” provision has been scrapped.
The seven-inning doubleheaders and the extra-innings runner proved divisive provisions among baseball fans in their two years in place. They’d been implemented as part of the COVID-19 protocols, with both provisions designed to lessen player workloads during seasons that could be massively impacted by virus-related postponements. Those concerns aren’t expected to be as prominent in 2022, and it seems neither party was motivated enough to agree to implement them permanently. The league may look to reinstitute those rules at some point down the line, but they won’t be in effect for the upcoming season at the very least.
