WIN METHOD - HOT STOVE --- 2019 - 2020

It is that time again WIN METHOD fans.  The 2019 baseball season has concluded.  The best teams and the best players made it to the playoffs and after advancing through the playoffs by winning each series and eliminating each team they played, the Washington Nationals won the World Series and are the best baseball team and the best baseball players in the world.  Congratulations to the Nationals for all you have accomplished.  There is only one way for a team and for players to become the best of the best, and that is with wins and winning.  No individual stat matters.  Only wins and winning make you the best.  Sorry stat frauds, when you learn this you will learn real baseball.

Yes, the 2019 season is over.  The YANKEES did their best and it was not good enough as they lost to the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.  However, it looked like the YANKEES took enough out of the Astros  that it may have cost them winning the World Series.  The YANKEES will need some work to do this winter to find and to put together the last few pieces they need to become the best of the best.  Considering the massive amounts of crippling injuries our YANKEE team had to endure over the season, making the playoffs was a fine achievement in itself.  But that was the past.  Now we look to the future.

There are likely as many opinions as there are YANKEE fans on what the team needs to do over the winter to '"win it all" in 2020.  There is the free agent route with several pieces available, there are our own pieces available who if healthy for an entire season will help, and then there are own in house pieces available that are blooming and growing in the minors.   Several of which may contribute greatly in 2020.  There are also trade possibilities that may become on option.

YANKEE management will be busy this winter.  How much money to spend on talent.  Is the money spent worth the investment?   Paying players very high salaries for multiple years is seldom a remedy, and in fact has hurt teams who have gone that route more than it has helped them,  The trade route is a possibility, but it takes two parties to make a deal that each party feels is good for their team.  Then there is the bloom and grow route.  Spring training will provide some answers, but the hot stove will be only ashes before spring training provides some answers.  We will just have to see what happens and how things shake out this winter and spring.  Each decision made by management determines how and what the next decision may be.  Throwing money at big contracts is up to management.  You WIN METHOD fans know my opinion on big long term contracts, 'just say no'.  We said no to Harper and Machado last year and it paid dividends over the season as the YANKEES made the playoffs even with all the injuries.  Harper and Machado each cost their team a lot of dollars and neither team made the playoffs and are saddled with many years of an overpaid single piece of talent.

Lets all have a fun hot stove season, keep offering your opinions, thoughts, and ideas, and be happy you are not the one making the decisions.  Remember fans, the YANKEE management team has more knowledge and information than you (we) do.   There must be financial limits and that is one thing everyone should remember.  So, here we go, let's turn on the stove and see what we can cook up.  LETS GO YANKEES.

Just as long as the team starts the season without another long term high dollar contract. We have the talent, there is no need to throw money away on the likes of someone like Cole or that ilk.

Walt Belamy said...

If we don't show confidence in our youngsters we will fail. No Cole.

Jill Byrnes said...

No one player makes a team, ever. Starting pitchers are the worst cost effective outlays of salary. Starting pitchers, almost all, appear in less than 20% of a teams games, so there is absolutely no reason to pay them exorbitant amounts of money. Now compare that to position players who can easily appear in 90% of a teams games. Think with WIN METHOD common sense, who is a better investment?

Toby Hill said...

Jill Byrnes, that is where cost analysts get involved. Baseball is a complicated game and a games outcome is very interdependent on so many factors and players. The smarter franchises are starting to put a max value on players they are interested in and are not getting sucked into over paying for players.

Billy Tedder said...

I am hoping the Yankees find a way to retain Romine. He is more valuable than Sanchez as a catcher. Romine is better defensively in every aspect of the game. Romine is smarter and hustles. Only thing Sanchez has is more power.

YankeeBob said...

Billy Tedder. I agree about Romine. There is not a better BUC in baseball and he is better than several teams starting catchers.

I hear MLB is looking into contracting the minor league system. Maybe reorganizing would be a better word for what will occur. I don't believe for a minute MLB will be willing to give up and or lose minor league ballparks unless the parks themselves are beyond redemption.

After the last two seasons of great success from Cole, do not be surprised if he has a regression in 2020. The question will be how much and/or if there is injury involved.

NJYANKEE said...

Re Cole. 35-10 combined for 2018 and 2019. Top grade success with no doubts. BUT, there is always a but, is he worth the cost of finding out if he can do it again, or is it more wise to give your youth a full out chance for success at minimal cost?

Patricia Piper said...

Guys, on the other hand. If Yankees sign Cole and he pitches like the past two seasons, we likely can win two World Series in two years. Yes, I used 'if'. Is the 'if' worth the dollar lay out? It is if it's not your money. It may not be the prudent thing to do if it is your money.

Mario/Staten Island said...

Times flying. It's December, GM meetings in a week. Christmas in 3 1/2 weeks and boom, it's January. Can't wait to see which of the Yankee youngsters cracks the rotation this spring. Just need to stay away from Cole and others. We will need to pay our core very soon.

okiened said...

Posters have previously mentioned young Yankee pitchers who could break into the rotation in 2020. Monty who has had experience at the MLB level, King and Schmidt who could each be on the cusp of the MLB level, and Garcia who appears to be a rising star and reached AAA last season. Who knows, but lets find out.

How much is too much for Cole? Any bid could be the final bid, and then you must pay for years and years. Bad luck, (deep regression or injury) could cripple your team for many years. A big gamble for a 1/4 million plus, plus.

muchomachoman said...

If Cole doesn't sign with the Yankees, it's not going to be because of money. Cole has already stated that money isn't going to be the "end all" to his final decision. He's going to sign for a record breaking contract and the offers he rejects are going to be record breaking also. If he doesn't sign, it's going to be because he doesn't want to be a New York Yankee.

Izy Hernandez said...

Why baseball WAR is meaningless and therefore useless. WAR = wins above replacement players.
If you put the highest rated 25 WAR players from the 2019 season on one xeam, WAR says the they would win 168 games. We all know that is impossible.

Henry Orr said...

Izy Hernandez, If WAR is wins above replacement of average players, will should be able to assume a team of all average players would finish a season with an 81-81 record. That being so, it would mean if you replaced all those 25 players with the highest 25 WAR players with 168 wins above replacement then the team with the highest WAR players would win 81 games plus 168 games for a whopping total of 249 wins in a 162 game season. What garbage these stat frauds spew.

I think of it this way. Signing Cole for 8 years? and 300 million dollars? guarantees NOTHING as to the Yankees winning a World Series. The team wins, not one player. Again, I think Yankee management will do what THEY think is best for the their ORGANIZATION. It is their money and their name. I keep going back to afraud and his franchise killing deal with the Yankees. Yes the Yankees did win one World Series with him, but they added many other pieces that made the difference in that ONE 2009 season.

Jimmy Thames, Yes sir. Yankees are loaded and Cashman working to upgrade roster even more.

YankeeMike said...

The Yankees lost their most steady and dependable catcher today as the Detroit Tigers signed Austin Romine. The Tigers have instantly upgraded their catcher position.

Jesse Graham said...

YankeeMike, Romine loss leaves Yankees needing a quality catcher. Having "meatball" Sanchez and Kyle Higashioka as the backup is not the answer for the season.

Laura Koehler said...

If I have to I'll live with Sanchez, but he has to bat no higher than 8th. The loss of Romine, who when he played, got many big hits against many teams, and in many big when it mattered most situations. Loved when Romine started games. Better defensively and better contact hitter.

Cory said...

Down to 2 months until spring training. Merry Christmas.

Raul Vasquez said...

I would like to see the YANKEES get a decent left handed hitting catcher.

Juan Pablo Garcia, Dominican Republic said...

Wouldn't it be to some degree wise for the Yankees to give Happ to a team interested in him for very little, thus reducing payroll and opening a roster spot for one of the rookie pitchers to fight for this spring.

muchomachoman said...

Juan Pablo Garcia, LOL, you just want Deivi to get to the majors quicker. Give him time, he'll make it.

yankeeclipper said...

Juan Pablo Garcia, Deivi will have to battle with Clarke Schmidt and Michael King. Deivi is younger and still developing so I believe he will start the season in AAA.

Dakarai Folami said...

Merry Christmas to all.

Juan Pablo Garcia, Dominican Republic said...

yankeeclipper, Deivi wants to be Yankee bad. He knows what he has to do. If anything, he may be pushing himself to hard.

Nick Holt said...

Garcia is going to be used in a trade, or he will wind up in the bullpen, as you could count on one hand the number of 5'9" starters in baseball.

coryankee said...

Nick Holt, I disagree. Deivi is just 20 years old. He has moved up the ladder as fast as I have seen any pitcher move. He has played on seven minor league teams and has advanced from the Dominican League to AAA and has played always against player several years older and more developed than him. He is still blooming and growing. He will be a top notch MLB starter barring major injury. I believe the Yankees know this and I do not think he is going anywhere but to the top of the Yankee rotation.

Sam Anderson said...

coryankee, Hear hear! Add in Schmidt and King and you have three very possible major league quality starters on the cusp.

Norm Jackson said...

It is quite possible that in the 2021 season all three could be in the Yankee rotation.

Dustin Howell said...

Free agent signings and trades are happening quickly this hot stove season. It is smarter for free agents to get signed before Christmas and head to spring training with their new team relaxed and ready to go. Same goes for teams making trades. Not final yet, however it looks as if Arizona Dbacks will sign Madison Bumgarner for five years @ $80-90 million total.

As Christmas nears, more players are settling on contracts, and there are fewer big fish waiting to be caught.
Merry Christmas baseball fans.

Saul Irving said...

We caught the biggest fish of all. We won the winter and are still fishing.

Lou Lis said...

Cashman still has two more months to fine tune the roster. Hope German is good to go, but MLB is run by an idiot and so we wait.

Giambino said...

German may even be better than Cole as he keeps developing with age into his prime.

Iceman said...

Yankees sign old friend Adam Warren to a 2 year minor league deal. Warren is recuperating from tommy John surgery and will be invited to spring camp.

johnsondc said...

I remember when Warren was drafted. WIN METHOD really liked him. Number 2 pitcher from UNC The stat frauds and scouts loved UNC 'ace' pitcher who was drafted first round. WIN METHOD told Yankees Warren was better and to draft him. WIN METHOD was right again, the 'ace' failed miserably while Warren has had a solid career.

Yankees have to clear two spots on the 40 man roster so both Cole and Gardner can be added.

Dinty Moore, Looks like the four vulnerable choices are Adams, Cessa, Holder, and Tarpley.

If any stat frauds listened to Cole speak at his Yankee introduction event this morning, I hope some of them had the mental acumen to understand and see what makes for a WIN METHOD player.

Deb F said...

I hope readers realize WIN METHOD talked to Gerrit Cole over a decade ago and knew he was WIN METHOD.

Diane Stahl said...

Merry Christmas. We WIN METHOD Yankee fans have gotten our present already.

Stan the Man said...

Cole looked human today after shaving that foul beard and getting a hair cut. Welcome to the Yankees.

Tommy Lee said...

Cole wants to win the World Series. He came to the right organization run by the right people with great advice from the right people. Yes we can, let's do it.

Cole to be the best will have to win and help his team get to the playoff and then advance thru the playoffs and then the World Series.

Think 2020 Yankee fans. It will be the year we do away with 'yes we can' and 'yes we will' and replace them both with "YES WE DID". Merry Christmas to all however you celebrate the season.

Fred Slube said...

One heck of a hot stove for the Yankees and more to come?

Bud Light said...

Jeff Miller, we can't say yes we did until we do.

Everything going smoothly for Yankees post Cole. Management touching bases with other clubs.
Yankee system is loaded so there is no need nor urgency to do much. If the right opportunity arises do what is best for the team to improve winning chances.

Oscar Hron said...

yankeeclipper, I agree. I want to see and give every chance to our fine young talent.

I hope MLB has made a decision on the Domingo German incident and has let him, his family, and the Yankee organization know already, even if we do not. It is a disgrace the way MLB does things in the dark, under a cloud, behind smoke, and with no transparency. Not with any details, it is none our business, but just with the decision. Bah humbug to MLB.
Merry Christmas to everyone else.

Monte Willis said...

Yankeefan2....>>> I agree. As fans we do not any specifics. We only want a decision.

Yankees have finally dumped Chance Adams. Traded him to KC Royals for single A shortstop Christian Perez. Big takeaway from deal is Yankees open spot on 40 man roster.

That's one way of making room on the roster.

Betances has signed a three year deal with the Mets. Dollars no known yet. Betances can opt out after each of the first and second years however. The Mets deserve him for Christmas. Sort of like getting coal in your stocking, maybe????? Or he may turn out to be just what the Mets need.

Carl Hooks said...

The Yankees didn't want any part of Betances for 2020. Sort of like 'don't let the door hit you in the behind on the way out'.

It is so nice coming here and reading so many Christmas wishes posts and positive thoughts.
