WIN METHOD ------ HOT STOVE 2018-2019

The 2018 season is over.  Small success as the YANKEES reached the playoffs.  Big failure as the YANKEES lost the ALDS and did not go as far into the playoffs as they did in 2017.   So on to 2019.

The YANKEES had far too many injuries in 2018.  Some of the injuries kept players out not for days, but for weeks and months, and some for the season and into the coming 2019 season.

The YANKEES front office has some work to do this winter and the hot stove should be ready to start getting very warm.  The YANKEE primary need appears to be a front line starting pitcher and a good left handed bat.  Trading away Torres or Andujar would be a major boondoggle and a blunder that the team may not be able to overcome.  The YANKEES will not start the season with Montgomery and Gregorius, both out with major injuries.  The YANKEES have already resigned Bret Gardner for 2019 on a one season contract deal.  I cannot go into who the YANKEES should or should not sign here for proprietary reasons, I will leave that to all you brilliant WIN METHOD posters with all the common sense in the world.   I will say that if things go right there will be one giant acquisition that should help the team enormously.

Don't forget, this team despite the countless injuries, won 100 games in 2018 and where eliminated from the playoffs by a team that won 108 games in 2018, defeated the YANKEES and then defeated the Houston Astros who won 103 games in 2018, and then went on to win the World Series easily trouncing the inferior league champion LA Dodgers.

Keep an eye on the hot stove and lets see what happens.  I don't touch or go near the hot stove, what happens this winter is up to Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and the Yankee hierarchy.  Lets hope for the best and LETS GO YANKEES.

Lets go Cashman. Don't make a deal unless it helps the Yankees.

Reds announce this AM that Scooter Gennett is available. Solves second base for the Yankees and adds left handed bat. Torres goes to shortstop, Andujar stays at third base, Manny takes a long walk on a short pier. When Didi back, Torres back to second base and Gennett a nice piece to have around.

Walt Belamy said...

Plus Gennett is not a cancer, while Machado is. Let me go on record as saying, only an idiot would sign Machado for ten years and over 300 million dollars.

Steve said...

But the stat frauds love Machado.

Gomez said...

Steve, you just don't get the name fraud, you have to earn it. The stat frauds have surely done that abundantly and incessantly.

Cashman has been doing his job a long time. He knows the business, he knows his job, but it takes two sides to make a deal. He will do the best he can, and will do it with common sense and guidance from WIN METHOD.

WIN METHOD fans keep in mind that it may be very likely the Yankees did not go after Corbin because he did not earn WIN METHODS recommendation.

Reports have Andujar on the trading block.

William Mensom said...

Chew on this WIN METHOD fans....what if WIN METHOD finds Machado is WIN METHOD. That may be why the Yankees are looking to trade Andujar. Manny goes to third base, and Andujar nets a top of rotation starter. Everyone wants Andujar and he may be the only piece that is replaceable (signing Machado) in order to obtain that very high end pitcher.

Gary Shrieber said...

I hate the thought of trading Andujar.

Lou Moscowitz said...

Gary Shrieber, you got to give up good to get good..

YankeeMike said...

Gary Shrieber, I agree but if Andujar is what it takes to net an "ace" it may have to be done. I still don't like signing anyone for ten years.

Could Manny have acted like an idiot because he wants to be an Yankee more than anything?

All this Yankee stuff is very intriguing.

Winnie said...

Question - does anyone here acknowledge, payroll notwithstanding, that Manny is a supremely talented player that can do things on the baseball diamond that most other players cannot and presumably would help the Yankees from an offensive and defensive standpoint?

Or should we just attack him because we don’t like him?

Yankeefan2 said...

Spring camp opens in less than two months.

Yanks23245 said...

Winnie, All MLB players are supremely talented. Some have greater individual stats than others. The best players help their team to reach the playoffs the most often. The best of the best help their team advance to the playoffs and win World Series. To become one of the best players in the league players need to produce when it counts the most often and help their team to win enough games to go to the playoffs and beyond. Then producing in the playoffs more often than not will help your team advance. It is all basic WIN METHOD. Machado is not one of those players, neither was afraud and there have been and are countless others.

Winnie said...

Yanks23245
Neither was Stanton. Machado led his team to the World Series last year, which is more than Stanton ever did prior to coming here (or since).

You spout out a bunch of things, but couldn't Manny be Winmethod for this team and lead us to the playoffs and championships?

Tommy Lee said...

Yes, Manny could be WIN METHOD. We may find out one way or the other. I remember how WIN METHOD told the Yankees not to sign afraud because he was not WIN METHOD. afraud proved to be a cancer. Machado played for the Dodgers for 2 of 6 months and the Dodgers were going to the playoffs without him. He really added little if anything to the Dodgers being a more winning team last season. His 2018 post season was pathetic and if anything cost the Dodgers a chance at winning the WS.

Phil Jenkins said...

I will take it for granted that once Manny signs wherever, he will let us know if Manny was WIN METHOD or not. I think it logical that if WIN METHOD tells Hal that Manny is not WIN METHOD, the Yankees will not sign him. If Hal is told Manny is WIN METHOD, then it will come down to how much Hal is willing to spend and for how long.

Yanks23245 said...

Winnie, Machado played for the Dodgers for 2 months. The Dodgers were alone in first place when Machado arrived, they were tied for first place after 162 games and needed to play a 163rd game to reach the playoffs. That tells me he had no effect in aiding the Dodgers.

Saul Irving said...

Babe, not at all. A prospective employee can ask for anything they wish. A well run organization knows just how high they should pay for a position in their organization. If you overpay, you are stupid. If you underpay, you usually don't get the right person.

Earlier this month there were reports and rumors regarding Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia. This is the official report released by the Yankees.

"""""Yankees lefty CC Sabathia had surgery earlier this month after doctors discovered he had a blockage in one of the arteries leading to his heart, according to The Athletic.

“CC was experiencing some chest pain which turned out to be a blockage in one artery to his heart,” Sabathia’s agent, Kyle Thousand of Roc Nation Sports, said in a statement to The Athletic.

“A procedure was done to insert a stent to clear the blockage on Dec. 11. CC is doing great and will be reporting to spring training on time to get ready to play for his upcoming final season in 2019.”

Sabathia experienced symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn and decided to get it checked out. Things could have been a lot worse if he didn't get evaluated right away because he could have suffered a heart attack, The Athletic notes.

The Yankees released a statement, saying they are thankful Sabathia went to see the team's medical staff when he did.

“We are thankful that CC was smart enough to convey his symptoms to our medical staff, and in turn they immediately engaged New York-Presbyterian Hospital, who quickly determined the root cause of what ailed him," the statement read.

"We are also encouraged that the procedure CC underwent was performed as planned. He is such a dynamic person beyond his excellence on the field, and we will proceed with his health at the forefront of our priorities. We will continue to follow the guidance and expertise of the doctors — who have conveyed that CC will report as scheduled to Tampa in February to prepare for the 2019 season."

Sabathia met with doctors Friday and got a positive prognosis for both the short and long term. The 38-year-old isn't expected to miss any time and will report with the Yankees’ pitchers and catchers in mid-February."""""

There is not a player on this earth worth $30 million per year and not one of them improves a team without the significant play from all the other players on the team contributing to those wins. All the Yankee greats in the teams history who helped the team to multiple championships throughout their career must be rolling over in their graves.

Warren Hammond said...

To be a best player in baseball you must be able to be a part of your team that contributes when it counts most to help the team win games. Do they "need" a $300M OFer? NO! Do they "need" another bat that costs $300M? NO! There's no "need" for the Yankees to overpay for anyone, and 10yrs and $300M plus is overpaying.

Possible Cashman plan....sign Machado for shortstop, keep Andujar at third base, trade Didi since he is the oldest or use as extra infielder. Torres stays at second base therefore we do not a body now. Trading Gray could obtain an arm we could use or keep Gray as that bullpen arm. I do not trust Gray and do not think he has the guts and fortitude to come up big when it counts in a Yankee uniform.

This leaves the Yankees with....
Stanton LF
Hicks CF
Judge RF
Voit/Bird 1B
Torres 2B
Andujar 3B
Machado SS
Sanchez C
Gardner/Voit/Bird/Romine/Elsbury?/Wade all fill-ins or DH.

I can see Machado being a good fit right now with Didi down, but I think Harper would help the Yankees more over a longer duration of years because, as others have noted, lefty bat.

Here's to a Yankee World Championship in 2019. Happy New Year.

Machado supposedly has received major offers from Phillies, White Sox, and Yankees. I would assume his agent is playing the three teams against each other these last few days. Manny did say he would announce who he would play for right after the first of the year.
I am very surprised that there is no leakage of any kind regarding offers. But then this isn't the government.

Cory, if the Yanks get Machado I love your scenario and lineup.

All's quiet Yankee wise. Still dealing to do.

One thing for every fan to remember, there is no stat that determines how good a player is but wins and winning. You can't be the best unless you win and you must win as a team.

Just over 39 hours left in 2018. Lets welcome 2019 with a memorable Yankee season. Happy New Year.

The Yankees won 100 games last season despite all the injuries. We do not "need" much. Starting pitching was the only area that should be upgraded and that has already begun with the addition of Paxton and re-signing Happ who will now be a Yankee for the entire season, not just a couple of months.

Wishing everyone a very healthy and happy new year.

BIGTIMEYANKEE, I would put up the Yankee starting five against any rotation in baseball to start the season. Louie Louie, Paxton, Tanaka, Happ, CC. Nice. And a few youngsters chomping at the bit as they bloom and grow.

No news as 2018 is down to its last 29 hours.

Also on the 2nd or 3rd of January the Japanese pitcher Kikuchi will announce who has won his services.

There are still pieces needed to make the Yankees the best of the best, and are obtainable, the question will be, will the pieces fit and mesh to become the best of the best.

Thank you WIN METHOD. You have made baseball fun for me. Individual stats for each player are just numbers. Teams win games and winning is what determines the best. Teams win with the contributions of every player on the roster and their contribution when it matters most.
