WIN METHOD --- 2018 SEASON --- PRODUCING WHEN IT COUNTS

It is here WIN METHOD fans.  Tomorrow we start the 2018 baseball season.  We start with high hopes, high pie in the sky hopes.  The goal is winning the division, making the playoffs and advancing from there as far as wins and winning can take us.

This season we appear to have improved the roster in all areas.  Adding Stanton, Walker, Drury, etc. will surely make this team better.  Having Robertson, Kahnle, and Gray for the entire season should also improve the team.  The only injury of consequence is Greg Birds bone spur, the surgery he just underwent, and him being out for about two months.  As usual we will play the hand we are dealt and overcome all roadblocks and obstacles.

We have several players at AAA Scranton chomping at the bit while blooming and growing that will be heard from and make their presence felt this season.  You know their names, Torres, Andujar, German, and others.   This 2018 Yankee team is deep, has gained confidence and experience, and has backups close at hand.

As I started to write this post I noticed a post by Cory.  I thought his post was very insightful and  positive and I didn't want it to get bypassed because of being posted in a past blog, so I am  reposting it right here now.  Thank you for your post Cory.
----- I will be doing the ten game sets and posting them here as I did last season.
Here is the sets from last season.
10. 6-4
20. 7-3 = 13-7
30. 8-2 = 21-9
40. 3-7 = 24-16
50. 6-4 = 30-20
60. 7-3 = 37-23
70. 2-8 = 39-31
80. 4-6 = 43-37
90. 4-6 = 47-43
100. 7-3 = 54-46
110. 5-5 = 59-51
120. 6-4 = 65-55
130. 5-5 = 70-60
140. 5-5 = 75-65
150. 8-2 = 83-67
160. 7-3 = 90-70
Note the sets from games 61-90. We were 10-20. That is awful baseball. Still finished 91-71. With everything else staying the same if that 30 game skid could be bettered this season to just 15-15 that would mean this season could wind up 96-66. If we improve the three 5-5 sets from last season by one game that would take this season to 99-63. And if we raise the 3-7 set to 4-6 that could take this season to 100 wins.
It will be up to the players on the field producing when it matters most, but it is surely possible.-----

It is not only Cory with great posts, it is all of your posts, every single one of you from all over the world who post your comments and views here.  And all of the readers of the WIN METHOD blog from all over the world, even if you do not post.  We have surpassed 320 million views and are getting bigger and bigger every day.  Yes, we still get some stat frauds, but they are good for us and also and serve a purpose.  The stat frauds give us a guidepost and remind us of just how meaningless and useless their individual stats are.  There is no doubt to anyone here who is a WIN METHOD fan that only wins can take a team to the playoffs.  Only wins and winning as always, do now, and always will in the future, determine the best players and teams.  THANK YOU ALL WIN METHOD FANS.

Now it is just about that time where we all stand up and cheer our team for the 2018 season!

LETS GO YANKEES

Sonny Gray (R)
vs. Twins - Lance Lynn (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) CF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF
5. Gary Sanchez (R) DH
6. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
7. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Basically a right handed hitting lineup against a right handed pitcher. All the youngsters are in.

Ivan Noriokos said...

Lets keep hitting, particularly when it matters, and lets hope Gray doesn't crash and burn us into the ground again.

Steve said...

The best part about this team, there is no foul cheating dirtbag like afraud on it and contaminating it.

muchomachoman said...

Grayskies in the groove quickly. Walk and home run in 1st inning has Yankees down 2-0 before coming to bat. Hope the lineup scores runs tonight. Then again, maybe it was just a bad pitch with a man on. MAYBE!

YankeeMike said...

Didi solo HR and Austin 3 run HR give Yankees 5-2 lead after three innings.

Cory said...

Grayskies after being staked to a 5-2 lead after 3 comes out in the 4th and gives up 3 consecutive singles and 1 run so far with 1 out. K for the 2nd out. Popup for 3rd out. Gets out of a big jam allowing only 1 run. That's a positive.

Stan the Man said...

Yankees lead 6-3 after four.

Yankeeforever said...

Grayskies can't finish the 5th inning and can't earn the win. He leaves with the bases loaded and 2 out after throwing 104 pitches. A very poor outing no matter how you look at it. Green in and gets 3rd out on popup.

Billy Tedder said...

Yanks clinging to 6-4 lead after 7. Not closing it out, missed when it counts opportunities.

will-i-am said...

Final 7-4 win. Green gets the win as Grayskies comes up empty again.

yankeeclipper said...

Winning the first three games with the Twins guarantees winning the series. A chance for a four game sweep tomorrow with Monty starting.

okiened said...

Gray looks like a little leaguer on the mound. Throws too many pitches, and too few strikes.

Diane Stahl said...

At least Gray kept us in the game, and earned a no decision. That is far better than a loss.

yankeelover said...

I think this event last night defines Gray and his problems. He comes out to pitch the 5th inning and with two on and two out he needs one more out to have pitched far enough to possibly be the winning pitcher. Gray gets the first two strikes on the batter who would be the third out and then fails to throw another strike, nibbling at corners trying to make the perfect pitch and walks the batter to load the bases. He is at 104 pitchers and he is taken out of the game with no chance of being the winning pitcher.

4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) RF
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Where is the weak spot in this lineup. Everyone bring your broom.

Hobbs said...

If I had to pick a weak spot it would be Austin. Caveat, Austin is a very nice weak spot to have.

Warren Hammond said...

My mother gave me this advice a very long time ago. Lets say you could take the best player from every team in the majors to build your team. That would give you 30 players. 5 of them wouldn't make your team since your team can only have 25 players. And then your bottom 5 players would be your "worst" players. Then you still have to play the season and you don't go to the playoffs and beyond unless your players produce when it counts and matters the most.
The most interesting and telling possibility of your team is you could have the league leader in every offensive and defensive category and still not make the playoffs unless your team WINS enough games.

Craig Winstead said...

White Knight said...

Hopefully someone got through to Betances. He pitched the 9th inning in what looked to be a 3-1 loss and struck out the side with no nonsense. The Yankees came up for their last licks and scored 3 runs to win the game 4-3 and Betances earned the win.

Bobby Behan said...

On to LA to face the Angels this weekend for three games.

Warren Hammond said...

Very nice win today. When a starter is perfectly on his game like Gibson was today and has to be relieved, the relievers stuff is almost never as good as the starters. Thus the walk off win.

No one ever forget. Your not as good as when you are playing your best and you are not as bad when you are playing your worst.

Ziggy Mann said...

Lets go Yankees.

Lloyd Fuller said...

Monty threw far too many pitches innings 1-3, but finished 4 and 5 very strong. Allowing 2 runs over 5 innings is not awful.

Jeb Hough said...

Interesting that in WIN METHODS March 28th blog he named three youngster and all are playing for the Yankees already this season in Andujar, Torres, and German. And still more to come.

Kurt Holmes said...

No better way to start a road trip than to have your top three pitchers going 1,2,3.

David Stern said...

The infusion of youth and this Yankees team is good. The young players know WIN METHOD baseball and want to win and help the team win. There are several veterans on the team to help lead the youngsters in the right direction, overcome the downs, and pitfalls, while learning how critical it is to produce when it counts.

Jen Vitter said...

Tanaka tonight. Good start to this three game series last night and we can take this series with a win tonight.

coryankee said...

The magical season continues. Or is it the WIN METHOD tenet of producing when it matters. The Yankees come from behind with a run in the 9th to tie and then a run in the 10th to win last night in Anaheim. The Yankees scored four runs yesterday, three on sacrifice flies and one on a home run. WINS are the only stat that counts.

okiened said...

Getting an RBI with an out and a runner on third base with less than two outs is one of the best things a hitter can do to produce when it counts.

jimbo said...

Runs on outs are big and win games that may ordinarily be lost without them. They were needed and won last nights game because of two great catches by Angel right fielder Cole Calhoun. Calhouns catches were examples of producing when it counts defensively. His play made for a tight one run game that could of gone either way. Stat frauds can't and or don't want to accept this.

Rahm Mahoud said...

Stat frauds only accept meaningless numbers. That way they play with themselves in the fantasy world.

Linda Pardo said...

If Tanaka does well like his last outing it should be a good game, and a game that could go either way. Hope Judge get over the yips.

Onto Houston for another four game series with the World Champions.

YankeeMike said...

Quay Ho has been looking for a ten game winning streak from the Yankees. Tonight they have a rare chance to do so. The drawback for the Yankees will be their starting pitcher, Grayskies.
Will he step up or dig his hole of ineptitude even deeper!!

Barry West said...

Gray could change the opinions of knowledgeable Yankee fans tonight with a high grade winning effort when it counts. Gray needs to produce, and so far as a Yankee he has been sorely lacking.

Domenic said...

Gray has had many chances with the Yankees. He is 28 years old with four full seasons in MLB.
He is not a kid still learning his craft. He should be at his peak. If this is his peak, the best the Yankees have is a very bottom end rotation starter, if even a rotation starter at all for a pennant contending team. How many chance is he going to get?

Steve said...

I get tired of the talking heads saying how much stuff Gray has, how is ball really moves, and other nonsense. If he can't win, more so win big games for a contender, then all the "stuff and ball movement" in the world is meaningless. This the "head" can't seem to get in their heads filled with mush.

Adam Egan said...

My opinion, Gray pitches like a deer in the headlights. He needs to prove us all wrong and win.

Quay Ho said...

I can only hope for the best tonight.

Yanks down 2-0 after six. Gray does go a credible six innings. IF he can pitch like today going forward he will be the fifth starter. He is pitching the game the Yankee lineup has done nothing.

will-i-am said...

Final 2-1 loss. There goes the win streak stopped at nine.

reinvaldez said...

There were many good thing for the Yankees in tonight's game. Just got beat by a brilliant effort from the opposing pitcher and the defending World Champion team.

Patricia Piper said...

Almost Quay Ho. I bet we will get another chance this season.

Mark Wagoner said...

Over the last two games our pitchers only gave up three runs, but we only split the two games. The bats were pretty much silent and that is not good. If the bats get going we have a better chance to win games because the pitchers can;t be really good all the time. Maybe Monty will get support tonight.

Steve said...

You want to know why the Houston Astros are world champions. How about the way they scored their first of only two runs last night. Pure WIN METHOD. A single to start the inning, a balk moves the runner to second. A ground out moves the runner to third. A ground scores the runner. Yes another out scoring a runner from third with less than two outs. The difference between winning and losing.

coryankee said...

Steve, those low profile runs are vital so many times. In close games they are the deciding factor. But those runs do not fulfill stat frauds agenda. They only want to know how much and how many. That is the reason the teams that go to the playoffs only go because of wins.

Gus Papa said...

This is a big game tonight in relationship to this series. Four game series and a win evens it. A loss and you are down two and need to win the last two games just to play .500 ball for the series.

I remember all the managers in the WS saying game two was always vital. If you last game one you almost had to win game two and if you won game one winning game two gave you a great advantage.

bigbadwolf said...

Come on home guys. You did us fans proud. Together we are the WIN METHOD.

Stan the Man said...

Had work today so I DVR'd the game. It will be great to watch all the action quickly because I can skip over the uneventful innings. Still great to watch even knowing the outcome.

The Yanks come home and host the Cleveland Indians for a three game weekend series. Tapped to start each game are CC, Gray, and German.

Alex Antonius said...

Yankees home for nine games. 3 each with Cleveland, the sux, and A's.

Paul Hirschman said...

The Yankees scored 6 runs today, none on HRs, the game winning RBI scored on a ground out and a man on third base with less than 2 outs. Production when it counts.

Izy Hernandez said...

We are back home. Keep the winning going.

Teena/Bronx said...

Any hitter in our lineup can hurt the opposing pitcher at any time, and do it consistently. There is power, there is speed, and there is blooming and growing confidence.

Howie Simms said...

Keep us on a positive footing and moving forward tonight CC.

Domenic said...

The Tribe split a double header yesterday and had a 7 run inning in one game and a 9 run inning in the other. Lets watch CC cool off their bats.

Gary Shrieber said...

Would be great to take these three series at home.

yankeelover said...

As usual, let's take the first game of this series. Everybody contributes.

Torres 3 run HR and Judge solo HR in 4th give Yankees 4-0 lead.

White Knight said...

I think the Yankee 8 and 9 hitters, Andujar and Torres are better than any team in baseballs 1 and 2 hitters.

jimbo said...

5-0 Yankees thru 6. CC goes 6 scoreless innings 3 hits 0 walks. Betances in for 7th.

KevMac said...

Shreve in for the 8th and stinks up the game, allowing all four men he faced to score. Robertson has to be used and he allows a run as Indians tie game at 5.

Jill Byrnes said...

Just when you think you have the game in hand. Wow, baseball is a great game. Lets go guys, still work to do.

Carl Hooks said...

Judge walks with the bags full for a 6-5 lead. Chapman in to try for another save.

Jill Byrnes said...

Chapman with two wild pitches gives up a run. 6-6. More work to do.

Cory said...

Andujar with a walk off RBI single with two outs for the 7-6 win.

will-i-am said...

Final 7-6 nail biting thrilling win in what should have been a 5-0 easy win.

Linda Rice said...

Oh my, what a win.

Ivan Noriokos said...

We do it again tomorrow. Gray is our starter. Do we get Sonny Gray or do we get Grayskies?

Cory said...

CC got a no decision yesterday after pitching six innings of scoreless baseball and leaving the game leading 5-0.

REFRESHER: Lets look how the WIN METHOD looks at no decisions. A no decision is not a bad thing and it may not even be a good thing because of all the events and or possibilities that make for a no decision. For example, CC last night we may say CC did not get the win because of the performance of others beyond his control. The same can be said if CC left the game losing 5-0 and then the performance of others beyond his control came back and evened up the game so CC could not be the losing pitcher and would get a no decision.

Therefor the WIN METHOD looks at a no decision as a value of exactly what the pitchers win percentage is. Be it for a year of his career.

CONCLUSION: No decisions do not change a pitchers win/loss percentage. The team would win at the same rate their won/loss record was over the pitchers season and career.

EXAMPLE: A pitcher starts 30 games. His record is 15-9 with 6 no decisions. The W/L percent for the pitcher is .625, so we then value a pitchers no decisions at the same .625 be it for a season or over his career.

CONCLUSION: If a pitcher over his career has a .600 W/L percentage, all his no decisions over his career are viewed as a .600 percentage.

Boone has been giving everyone a day off here and there. 18 straight games with travel right after a game that concludes a series is a lot of wear and tear. An extra day off here an there to go along with a scheduled day off is good for players. It clears the mind and provides a different prospectus of a game and what is happening. Add in the added wear on catchers and they should get even more time off. It works great when you have the players the Yankees have because the team doesn't miss a beat.

Linda Pardo said...

Trust you stuff German. Lets go guys, support your young pitcher.

Stan the Man said...

Scoreless thru 3.
