This season we appear to have improved the roster in all areas. Adding Stanton, Walker, Drury, etc. will surely make this team better. Having Robertson, Kahnle, and Gray for the entire season should also improve the team. The only injury of consequence is Greg Birds bone spur, the surgery he just underwent, and him being out for about two months. As usual we will play the hand we are dealt and overcome all roadblocks and obstacles.
We have several players at AAA Scranton chomping at the bit while blooming and growing that will be heard from and make their presence felt this season. You know their names, Torres, Andujar, German, and others. This 2018 Yankee team is deep, has gained confidence and experience, and has backups close at hand.
As I started to write this post I noticed a post by Cory. I thought his post was very insightful and positive and I didn't want it to get bypassed because of being posted in a past blog, so I am reposting it right here now. Thank you for your post Cory.
----- I will be doing the ten game sets and posting them here as I did last season.
Here is the sets from last season.
10. 6-4
20. 7-3 = 13-7
30. 8-2 = 21-9
40. 3-7 = 24-16
50. 6-4 = 30-20
60. 7-3 = 37-23
70. 2-8 = 39-31
80. 4-6 = 43-37
90. 4-6 = 47-43
100. 7-3 = 54-46
110. 5-5 = 59-51
120. 6-4 = 65-55
130. 5-5 = 70-60
140. 5-5 = 75-65
150. 8-2 = 83-67
160. 7-3 = 90-70
Note the sets from games 61-90. We were 10-20. That is awful baseball. Still finished 91-71. With everything else staying the same if that 30 game skid could be bettered this season to just 15-15 that would mean this season could wind up 96-66. If we improve the three 5-5 sets from last season by one game that would take this season to 99-63. And if we raise the 3-7 set to 4-6 that could take this season to 100 wins.
It will be up to the players on the field producing when it matters most, but it is surely possible.-----
It is not only Cory with great posts, it is all of your posts, every single one of you from all over the world who post your comments and views here. And all of the readers of the WIN METHOD blog from all over the world, even if you do not post. We have surpassed 320 million views and are getting bigger and bigger every day. Yes, we still get some stat frauds, but they are good for us and also and serve a purpose. The stat frauds give us a guidepost and remind us of just how meaningless and useless their individual stats are. There is no doubt to anyone here who is a WIN METHOD fan that only wins can take a team to the playoffs. Only wins and winning as always, do now, and always will in the future, determine the best players and teams. THANK YOU ALL WIN METHOD FANS.
Now it is just about that time where we all stand up and cheer our team for the 2018 season!
LETS GO YANKEES

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 2301 Newer› Newest»Monty after being staked to a five run lead has been struggling and grinding in and out of trouble but still leads 5-2 with Yankees coming to bat in fourth.
Monty knocked out in fifth going 4 1/3 innings. German in. Monty got 13 outs, allowed 10 hits, 2 walks, and 4 runs. He gets a no decision. Not a good outing.
After taking a 5 run lead in the first inning, the Yankees gave it all back and trailed 7-6 coming to bat in the 7th. Austin Romine, the best back up catcher in baseball, and likely starting catch for many teams, delivers his third RBI hit of the game with a man in scoring position to tie the game at 7 after seven.
7-7 after 7.
7-7 after 9. Extra innings.
Stanton gets slapped in the face by the Orioles as they intentionally walk Judge with a man on second and two outs to pitch to Stanton. Stanton weekly grounds out on first pitch. 7-7 after ten innings.
Warren comes up empty again, gives up run, O's up 8-7 with Yanks coming to bat in 12th.
Bottom of 12th.
Romine lead off walk.
Didi walks, men on 1st and 2nd, no outs.
Gardner bunts, error by pitcher, bases loaded.
Judge double play 1-2-5. Two outs men on 1st and 2nd.
Stanton strikes out again.
Another nightmare loss.
Yankees go down 8-7 after 12. Worse of all, lose series to hapless Orioles.
First ten game set of 2018.
1-10 5-5
If the rest of the season plays out like the first ten games, I may not make it out alive.
Maybe all the really bad stuff, karma, luck, etcetera is happening all at once. It is hard to believe things can get worse. And we are still 5-5.
Onto Boston for three games after off day tomorrow.
This team needs to get its' act together. I can't believe how bad Stanton has been and throw in Sanchez too. Combined they have just 9 hits in 74 at bats from the middle of the order. That is pathetic.
Much needed off day today. Recover and recoup.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire as we head to Boston for a three game series starting tomorrow.
Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio and where has the decades of consistent contact gone?
During his 1941 MVP season Joe DiMaggio struck out less times in 622 plate appearances than Stanton did last week!!!!!!
Cory, I bet there are quite a few oldtimers posting here who saw Joe D play. I go a long way back and remember him well.
Going back to yesterday and producing when it counts. The ultimate fail in baseball has to be bases loaded, no outs, and you do not score.
I go back to the Yankees of the late 30's. Yankee fan all my life.
Louie Louie and Tanaka in first two sux games. No one named for game three yet.
It would bode well if we can win the sux series.
Lets go Yankees .
Stanton is not in AAAA ball anymore. And he is now under the bright lights.
We need a big game from Louie Louie tonight and even a bigger game from the bats.
Linda Rice, if what you posted is Stantons problem then we are screwed. Hopefully he is just in Avery bad slump.
Tuesday 4/10 7:10pm
Luis Severino (R)
@ Red Sox - Chris Sale (L)
1. Neil Walker (S) 2B

7. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Shane Robinson (R) CF
Eight right handed bats. Romine behind plate as Sanchez DH.
Another newbee in CF.
Yankees down 4-0 after 3 and not looking good in both departments.
Down 14-1. A perfect loss. That really skews the fake stats.
Losing 14-1 is no worse than losing 2-1. The season is long and we have started it poorly.
Tanaka tonight to try to even series.
The worm will turn. We have been thru this scenario before.
Wednesday 4/11 7:10pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
@ Red Sox - David Price (L)
1. Brett Gardner (L) CF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Neil Walker (S) 1B
7. Tyler Austin (R) DH
8. Tyler Wade (L) 2B
9. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
Stanton and Sanchez have to start producing at some point.
Maybe, just maybe we will salvage this series.
Yankees lead 5-1 after 3.
Tanaka cracks to 5th and allows 5 runs. Yankees lead 8-6 after 5.
Yankees up 10-6 after 7 in brawl filled game. The sux will go down hard, there is a long season ahead.
Is it possible the bats have risen?
Yanks up 10-6 after 8.
Chapman struggling to close it out.
Final 10-7 win.
Sonny Gray gets a big chance tonight against the sux to win a big rivalry game, take the series and win the hearts and minds of Yankee fans.
The new and young Yankees have been indoctrinated quickly into the Yankee/sux rivalry. Give no quarter guys, the sux must be cleaned.
Who do we get tonight? Sunny Sonny or Gray skies?
Let's go Yankees, yes you can.
If the lineup is back we can move forward.
Thursday 4/12 7:10pm
Sonny Gray (R)
@ Red Sox - Rick Porcello (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) CF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) DH
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Tyler Wade (L) 2B
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 3B
Hicks is back in lineup.
Lets take this series.
Blue skies struggling again, not throwing strikes, men on and always in the hole. OVER RATED.
Looks like we have Gray skies tonight again. Yanks down 4-0 after 2.
Gray can't finish four innings and leaves burying the Yankees 6-0.
Rain, field covered. Official game. Yanks down 6-0 thru five.
Final 6-3 loss. Yankees lose sux series, but it could have been worse.
Gray has been a disaster and appears to not be any kind of Abigail time pitcher.
Next up a three game weekend series in Detroit.
Monty starts tonight's game.
Louie Louie listed for Sunday game, no one named for tomorrow yet, German?
Lets start winning games and series.
Relax people. We will overcome. We haven't come close to playing good baseball yet.
Friday 4/13 7:10pm
Jordan Montgomery (L)
@ Tigers - Mike Fiers (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
Andujar is so overdo to break out.
Time for a win, a series win, and a hot streak.
2-0 Yankees after 2.
Yanks lead 5-1 after 5. Monty looking good tonight.
Yanks lead cut to 6-3 after 7.
Betances comes in in the 8th up 8-3 and he is useless yet again. Is relieved by Chad Green with 2 outs after he gives up 3 runs and 5 hits and there are 2 men on base. Green strikes out batter for 3rd out. Yanks up 8-6 after 8 in what should have been an easy win. Betances has to be a head case. A sick puppy.
Chapman in for the 9th and to try for a save. He strikes out the side. 8-6 win no thanks to Betances.
Final 8-6 win. Cessa has been named starting pitcher for tomorrow.
Nice to see Andujar with a double and triple tonight.
Game likely iffy today in Detroit. Some nasty weather moving thru.
Rained out today. Day/night double header tomorrow.
Things just don't get easier.
As always, just have to play the hand we are dealt
OK, we just go out and win two tomorrow.
Louie Louie and Luis tomorrow?
Right now a mix of rain, sleet, ice, and snow in Detroit. Does not bode well for baseball right now.
This afternoons game has been canceled. They are still going to try to play tonight's game.
If game is played tonight Louie Louie will be starter.
Tonight's game in Detroit has now also been canceled as players refused to wear ice skates instead of spikes.
We took another series is the positive look on our trip to Detroit.
Hopefully the rain will pass through NYC quickly and we will be able to play tomorrow night.
We are home. Agree time to start a win streak.
Torrential rain in New York right now, but it looks like it will move out and game should get played tonight.
Louie Louie listed to start tonight.
Lets go guys. Get your act together.
Monday 4/16 6:35pm
Luis Severino (R)
vs. Marlins - Caleb Smith (L)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
We faced ex-Yankee Caleb Smith in spring training, could be good for us this time around.
This is a ten game home stand. Two with the Marlins, four with the Blue Jays and fours with the Twins. 8-2, yes we can.
One win at a time. Let's go Yankees.
Yanks up 3-0 after 2.
There's a whole lot of meaningless runs going around the Stadium tonight as Yankees lead Marlins 11-0 after five.
The two Marlin pitchers have thrown 152 pitches over the first five innings tonight.
Final 12-1 win.
Andujar looking better. Two hard hit doubles tonight.
Tanaka tonight to try for the two game sweep of this series with Marlins.
Guy Padikian, you nailed it with your comment after posting Yankee lineup yesterday. They were all over Marlin starter, Smith.
CC comes off the DL Thursday and has been named starting pitcher against Toronto.
Lets see if we can keep hitting and winning.
Another lefthander is pitching for the Marlins tonight. Keep hitting guys.
Glee wear Torres is doing well in Scranton and the Yankees now have another year of control over him. They could bring him up any time now and send Andujar down for a bit so they get the extra year over him also.
Tuesday 4/17 6:35pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
vs. Marlins - Jarlin Garcia (L)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Tyler Austin (R) 2B
9. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
Lets get another win.
This team is still a work in progress. Lets hope things work out well as the season progresses.
Having Hicks doesn't hurt. It gives the outfielders get a game off the field consistently.
Kahnle goes on 10day DL with right shoulder tendinitis.
Yanks down 7-0 coming to bat in 5th.
Yankees down 7-0 after 7 and look terrible.
Final, a 9-1 humiliating loss.
.500 ball will not make the playoffs.
The bright side is we still have 90% of the season to play.
Cessa put on DL also with an oblique strain.
Can we go 7-1 over the next 8 games?
What's up with Drury, McKinney, and Frazier.
CC tonight.
We need to win series. Splitting series takes you nowhere.
Thursday 4/19 6:35pm
CC Sabathia (L)
vs. Blue Jays - Aaron Sanchez (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Tyler Wade (L) 2B
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 3B
Stanton down one spot in order.
Hope CC comes back strong and sharp tonight. We need all the help we can get right now.
When Boone talked of dropping Stanton in that order, I thought he would drop him to at least the 5 hole or lower. Not bat him clean up.
2-0 Yankees after 2 on production when it counts from Wade and Torreyes.
Yankees lead 3-2 after 5 on Didi hit when it counts.
Final 4-3 win. A much needed win.
A five pitcher win with just enough timely hitting.
Gray starts tomorrow nights game. The "new" Sonny gray. He said he is going to just pitch and not think. The little fella scares me, but I am hoping for the best.
A win on an out for a rbi scoring a runner from third with less than two outs, a two out rib hit, another rib hit, and a solo HR. The biggest when it mattered production wa s Robertson digging himself out of the hole he dug himselef into.
Sonny Gray reminds me of a boy playing amongst men. I think he has a lot to prove to show he can pitch and WIN when it counts and for a playoff contender.
Gray was given a golden opportunity with the Yankees, it is up to him now.
Stanton looked a little bit more patient last night.
Friday 4/20 7:05pm
Sonny Gray (R)
vs. Blue Jays - Marco Estrada (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) DH
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) RF
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
Lets go Yankees.
Gray with a 10 pitch 1,2,3 first inning.
Austin 2 run HR puts Yankees up 2-0 after 2.
Gray has nothing. He's killing us.
Gray out after 3 1/3 giving up 5 runs. 5-5 after 4.
Final, another loss 8-5. Yankees look to be playing lackluster uninspired baseball. Is this stemming from the manager?
Saturday 4/21 1:05pm
Jordan Montgomery (L)
vs. Blue Jays - Marcus Stroman (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
6. Neil Walker (S) 1B
7. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
.500 ball gets us nowhere.
Fans, look at last seasons 10 game sets. There are massive ups and downs. The good and wins will come. Yes we can.
Thanks Cory. YES WE CAN AND YES WE WILL. Lets go guys, start playing WIN METHOD baseball.
Judge 2 run HR in 3rd gives Yankees 2-0 lead after 3.
2-1 Yankees after 5.
Andujar is slowly but surely showing that Machado will not be a Yankee. Andujar is younger and better.
Andujar with a gigantic when it matters bases loaded 3 RBI double in sixth helping Yanks to a
9-1 lead thru 6.
A big take a way today is Monty's six innings of one run ball.
Final 9-1 win with several positives.
Louie Louie goes tomorrow and a win takes this series 3 games to 1.
Another tidbit. In 2009 the last year the Yankees won the World Series, the team did not get and stay above .500 ball until May 15th.
By letting Andujar play he is gaining more and more confidence. He has not hurt the team defensively at all, and he will just get better and better.
Torres can't be to far away from the majors. But with Wade, Walker, Drury, Andujar, Didi, and Torreyes, a big decision has to be made by management.
If we don't win tomorrow we are still at .500.
I love listening to David Cone and Paul O'Neill talk baseball. Cone is a big analytical stats fan, but in the end he evens believes that all the stats in the world mean nothing unless they create wins and wins are created by when players produce when it counts.
Sunday 4/22 1:05pm
Luis Severino (R)
vs. Blue Jays - Jaime Garcia (L)
1. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF
5. Gary Sanchez (R) DH
6. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
7. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
8. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
9. Austin Romine (R) C
This is a big game to win and would be a first big step forward for the season taking a four game series.
I like Romine behind the plate today. Gives Sanchez a chance to get the cobwebs out of head and see how a better defensive catcher operates. Sanchez is still learning.
Cory, also looking back to last year, after 90 games we were 47-43, just 4 games over .500. We will get hot and we will win.
Did everyone see who is at second base today. Torres has been called up and Wade has been sent down to AAA. Wade did not take advantage of his opportunity. Torres has earned the big leagues for what he has done at Scranton.
Five of our nine starters are home grown first or second year bloomers and growers.
Three two out RBI's have the Yankees up 3-0 after 2. Didi 1 and Romine 2.
3-0 Yanks after 5.
In the longest start by any Yankee pitcher so far this season Louie Louie goes seven innings allowing just one run and leaves leading 4-1.
5-1 lead after 7. Just enough for a nice win in the making.
Final 5-1 win and a series win from a team in front of us.
1-10 5-5
11-20 6-4 11-9
Two 10 game sets complete.
This umpire crew is a bad joke. They miss an obvious call at first base and then watch an overwhelmingly obvious replay from at least two angles that would reverse the call and mis that also.
Hope Tanaka steps up tomorrow. Start of another four game series, this one with the Twinkies.
It won't be easy, but winning the Twins series would be great.
Andujar is making his presence felt, give Torres a chance to acclimate and he too will make his presence felt.
Lets go Yankees.
To bad we only have one Louie Louie.
Romine when he is in the game does not hurt this team a bit. Very good game caller, solid defensively, lesser arm throwing out runners-but not bad, and a very credible when it matters hitter.
Tanaka has an uncanny knack of turning things around from one game to the next. The quicker he gets back on track the better.
Taking game one of a four game series is good.
I expect and hope Torres is in the lineup on a consistent basis for the future. He will produce.
Tanaka, CC, and Monty have been named for the first three games.
Sorry guys....CORRECTION.....It is Tanaka, CC, and Grayskies then likely Monty.
Monday 4/23 7:05pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
vs. Twins - Jake Odorizzi (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Six home grown players with five being newcomers in lineup. Lets go Yankees.
There is a lot of talent blooming and growing on this team this season. We need one or two of out young pitchers to bloom and grow, then step up to the challenge.
Lets win the series.
When it counts guys, production when it counts, makes for winning and wins. Winning and wins determines who is best. Nothing else matters/
Raul Vasquez, dead on right. And the stat frauds hate it.
First inning, Sanchez 2 out 2 rbi double, Hicks 2 out rbi single, 3-0 Yankees after one.
Andujar HR puts Yanks up 4-0 thru 2.
Yankees up 4-0 after 2.
Yankees lead 5-1 after 5.
Tanaka looked good tonight. 6 2/3 innings only 1 run and in control.
A laugher tonight.
Too many meaningless RBIs tonight. It's easy when it doesn't matter. All it does is pad stats and make the stat fraud fantasy dumbos ecstatic.
Final 14-1 win. The win is great. The 3 runs in the 7th are tolerable. The 6 in the 8th are very meaningless. I would have rather have those 6 runs tomorrow.
Guys. Let's see what happens tonight, I bet we wish we had those late inning runs for tonight.
Nice to see Hale eat up a couple of innings last night. So be it pressure less innings.
Torres got his first hit last night. Let the WIN METHOD blooming and growing culminate in a great career.
A win tonight would be gigantic and a major positive.
There is a possibility of some precipitacion headed to the Bronx later today.
Tuesday 4/24 6:35pm
CC Sabathia (L)
vs. Twins - Jose Berrios (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
9. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
Same lineup as last night but for Walker at 1B in [lace of Austin.
You look back at last nights game and the 2 out 2 rbi double from Gary Sanchez giving the Yankees an early lead dictated the flow of the game. Andujar opens the second inning with a HR for a 3-0 lead and the Yankees never look back. The whole game changes because of one very big 2 out run(s) scoring hit. That defines what the WIN METHOD is about.
1-1 after 2.
Yankees up 5-1 after 5.
CC goes six complete allowing 1 run and was pretty much dominating.
Betances comes in for 7th and stinks up the place, and Robertson has to come in and bail him and the Yankees out with the tying run at bat twice. 5-2 Yanks mid 7th.
As the rains arrive, Yankees ice game with HRs from Judge and Sanchez in 7th for an 8-2 lead.
Final 8-3 win. Positives, 1. CC great six innings and 2. lineup hitting. Negatives, 1. sloppy four error defense and misplay of fly ball into a double, 2. Betances pathetic outing.
We have Sonny Gray starting tomorrow night. He is running out of excuses. If he is as good as some folks think he is, he needs to prove it. He needs to win games consistently. I don't mind giving guys a chance. There are many different reasons for not looking your best all the time. But since becoming a Yankee, Gray has shown little to nothing, doesn't throw strikes, afraid of contact, throws too many pitches, doesn't go deep into games, far to much hard contact. So far and all around failure.
Sonny, little fellow, if you have the guts and gumption, you may want to step up now and show us you have it and start winning. Right now you disgracing the Yankee uniform.
Steve, I think you are pretty much on target. I might add, Gray rarely seems to fool batters with consistency. Here and there any pitcher can fool a batter, but he may fool a batter on one pitch and get hammered on the next pitch. As things now stand, Gray is only a number five pitcher, and if we had someone ready to step up now, I would send him packing.
Raining in NYC right now and has been overnight. Hope we can play tonight.
Tonight, do we get Sonny blue skies or do we get Gray skies?
Nice to see ex-Yankees Tyler Clippard (3-0) and Curtis Granderson help the Yanks out last night as they lead the Blue Jays over the sux in 10 innings. Clippard outpitched the sux Craig Kimbrel in relief to earn the win with Granderson's walk off HR for the win. Every little bit helps.
