WIN METHOD 2017 ----- BLOOM AND GROW

Yes WIN METHOD fans, you have spoken, therefore the title of this blog post.  BLOOM AND GROW.  As 2016 nears its end, and the baseball winter meetings are held where deals are talked about and some consummated, and as the 2016 year concludes with the Christmas holidays, and the new 2017 year arrives and it will be a season for the New York YANKEES to BLOOM AND GROW.

After a couple of recent seasons of not making the playoffs, getting older as a team, disappointing the fans, dropping attendance, and overall down years, the YANKEES look like they may be going full bore at getting younger with many of their WIN METHOD selected youngsters being given a real chance to make the major league roster, make the team younger, make the team a contender more consistently and winning the World Series again.  Time for the farm to bloom and grow.

The list of YANKEE prospects is very promising.  Likely not all will make the major leagues, some may be traded away for a piece the YANKEE decision makers feel they need for a certain position.  The best part however is they will all get the chance to bloom and grow and some will make a major impact on the YANKEE team this 2017 season as Gary Sanchez has done already in the last seven weeks of the 2016 season, apparently earning the starting catcher job for the 2017 season.  Look for these names in 2017 and beyond, outfielders Clint Frazier,  Aaron Judge, Blake Rutherford, Dustin Fowler, Billy McKinney, Mason Williams, Jake Cave, Trey Amburgery, and Leonardo Molina. Infielders Gleyber Torres, Jorge Mateo, Miguel Andujar, Wilkerman Garcia, Tyler Wade, Hoy Jun Park, and Kyle Holder.  Catchers Luis Torrens, and Donny Sands.  Pitchers Justus Sheffield, Domingo Acevedo, James Kaprielian, Albert Abreu, Dillon Tate, Chance Adams, Ian Clarkin, Drew Finley, Jordan Montgomery, Chad Green, Dietrich Enns, and Freicer Perez.

Do not forget, Greg Bird returning in 2017 after missing 2016 with major shoulder surgery, other youngsters who have been placed on the 40 man roster or have seen some major league experience, Johnny Barbato, Richard Bleier, Giovanny Gallegos, Domingo German, Nick Goody, Ben Heller, Ronald Herrera, Johnaton Holder, Brian Mitchell, Yefrey Ramirez, Luis Severino, Kyle Higashioka, Rob Refsnyder and Tyler Austin.  There are so many with so much potential.

Some of these guys will become big names, some lesser names but yet accomplished major leaguers, some roll players that help make the team as best it can be,and some dealt away.  Bloom and grow. We wish them all healthy and fruitful careers wherever their career takes them.

Also, look forward to a very special day in 2017.  Mark your calendars,  Sunday, mothers day, May 14th against the Houston Astros, the YANKEES will retire the greatest ever WIN METHOD players number 2 Derek Jeter.  May the YANKEES be so blesses that as the youngsters bloom and grow we have another in the mold of Derek Jeter, the best and greatest major league baseball player in the past three decades.

Never forget that wins and winning always defines the best players and teams in the real world while individual stats and make believe made up formulas created by the foolish stat frauds are only for their fantasy games and fantasy world.

Yes fans, wins and nothing else but wins, has, does, and will determine who is best.
Now, for those fans who believe some thing else, you will just have to go play fantasy games.

Chen Yo Ming said...

Lets bloom and grow.

johnny said...

Lets go Yankees.

Guy Padikian said...

Can you believe, less than two weeks and spring training is here.

Zhaire said...

Set your sights high guys and then go after what you see.

YankeeMike said...

Blake Rutherford will not be at this spring training camp because of his young age,

White Knight said...

Rutherford not at camp is relatively logical. The kid is just out of high school. Let him get a full year in the minors and bloom and grow there will learning and developing his skills under professional tutelage.

Sean Smith said...

White Knight, I agree Rutherfords body needs to develop a little more before thrown in to deeply with the wolves. As he blooms and grows, and his body develops his awesome talents will develop and he will gin confidence and possibly be a force to be reckoned with.

Chad Greene said...

I agree also. With the Yankees having so much talent and more advanced, it is better to hold Rutherford back at this time. He will have his opportunity.

Dave Matthews said...

We have a ton of decent outfielders now with Gardner, Ellsbury, and Judge being the assumed starting OF this season. Hicks is the expendable spare, but if Frazier shines this spring, if he can't push one of the others out do we want him to take Hicks spot. Maybe if we use all four as rotating DHs. If you do that, then there is no DH spot for the Bird/Austin combo or the Sanchez/Romine combo. Nice problems to have.

Steven said...

Didn't we sign Holliday primarily to fill the DH spot?

Sal Mineo said...

Looks like an abundant of riches, if all produce to an acceptable level.

Dave Matthews said...

Steven, forgot all about Holliday, that makes it a bigger log jam. Likely Frazier goes to AAA no matter what? Injuries are always lurking.

Victor Grandozi said...

Now if only some of the young pitchers perform and challenge the veterans. Good vibes about this season.

Deb F said...

We can surmise that Tanaka, CC, and Pineda have been given rotation spots and they can only lose them if they stink during spring training. That leave a battle for the other two spots and as someone mentioned earlier, likely the pitchers with some ML experience have the edge. No matter, it should be interesting all around this spring.

Victor Bruno said...

May the best men earn their pinstripes.

Rahm Mahood said...

It's all good.

Gus Papa said...

I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this Yankee season.

Seth Holman said...

Gus Papa, we are all going to enjoy the Yankees 2017.

Guy Padikian said...

Twelve days!

Norm Jackson said...

All I want to see is every player give his all to the goal of winning. Use your physical ability and more important, use your brain.

Boston Yankee said...

We are going to start this season with one heck of a solid lineup. Speed, power, and some youth.

Quay Ho said...

I still think that the pitchers will be the key to how far we go.

Steve said...

I think it will be the WIN METHOD philosophy that determines how far the Yankees go. All players contributing to winning in every area.

candycane said...

I have to keep coming back to the black hole not being part of the Yankees this season. No afraud equals minimum of 3-5 wins extra. And that is minimum.

Gil McKenzie said...

How nice to have a full 25 man roster this season.

Domenic said...

And bats pretty much from top to bottom. Haven't had that in a long time.

Guy Padikian said...

Eleven more days and we are back.

Benny Pake said...

Louie Louie gets a 2nd chance this year. Make it happen guy. It is on you, you are responsible for how and when you produce.

Yanks23245 said...

Hey Bennie, Louie Louie could act like a stat fraud and blame his teammates.

Cory said...

I realize posters and fans here are smart enough not to care, but a stat fraud term (WAR) is invalid and there is no such thing in the real world. It is a made up, feckless, meaningless value created by some of the most ignorant, corrupt, self serving stat frauds in the fantasy world.

will-i-am said...

Hear, hear.

Anonymous said...

Could it be reasonably said that with afraud in the lineup last season the Yankees were playing 8 innings while the opposition was playing 9 innings each game.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Annon...I wouldn't go that far. He did get hits and walks at times.

Gene A said...

Sometimes you just have to take an anonymous post with a grain of salt.

RLA said...

Tanaka to be opening day starter?

Bud Light said...

But, who is next?

Cal Fuerst said...

Likely CC or Pineda or someone who excels this spring.

Guy Padikian said...

Ten days and camp is open.

bigbadwolf said...

We open in Tampa this season. Domed stadium, so no weather issues to worry about.

muchomachoman said...

In theory the way the April schedule is right now we do not need a fifth starter until April 17th.

Chad Greene said...

Yes, but who will win the spot.

Guy Padikian said...

Nine more days, we are down to single digits.

Ben Rosen/Israel said...

Hope everyone comes to camp ready to WIN.

Diane Stahl said...

Lets get ready for Yankee baseball and our bloom and grow season.

Cole/NJ said...

Believe or not our opening day game is eight weeks from today.

will-i-am said...

Diane & Cole....Music to my ears. Yes we can and will.

reinvaldez said...

The Yankee hierarchy will have many decisions to make this season involving personell and where they are going to play and when to move each piece up and or down.

Gus Papa said...

reinvaldez, that is fine with me just as they give their youngsters a fair chance to determine their value.

George W said...

I wonder if Refsnyder will be the utility infielder to start the season.

Felix Lopez said...

He has the edge coming into the camp.

Guy Padikian said...

Eight days until spring training.

Fred Slube said...

Should be interesting to see which youngster makes the biggest splash this spring.

Domenic said...

Fred, That could be a crap shot, there are so many who have the ability to make a splash.

Tom Loughlin said...

Maybe the Yankees didn't invite Rutherford to camp because of his young age, but maybe they feared him impressing so much and having no where to play him right now.

Zack Norris said...

Tom Loughlin, could be but I think it is just his age. He has never played college ball, signed out of high school, and only a handful of games in the low minors.

Lori Kelly said...

Lets give Blake some time to bloom and grow. He may be our biggest jewel as WIN METHOD thinks.

AAA said...

Bloom and grow is music to my ears.

Guy Padikian said...

Just one week from today and camp opens and the greatest game is back in action.

Yankeedoodledandy said...

Lets win it all guys. Bury the naysayers.

Ned Porter said...

When the season starts, play one game, one win at a time.

Xavier Young said...

Lets go YANKEES. Yes we CAN. Yes we WILL.

Ty Keel said...

Refsynder will likely start the season on the big team along with Torreyes as backup infielders.

Carl Hooks said...

Ty Keel, that is likely true because the young infielder prospects need a little more bloom and grow time, but someone may earn their stripes by the end of the season and more than likely surely in 2018.

Mark Wagoner said...

12 pitchers, 2 catchers, 7 infield/outfielders, 4 outfieders = 25.

Saul Irving said...

The Yankees have signed Chris Carter for 1 year at 3 mil. Likely one of the youngsters winds up in Scranton.

muchomachoman said...

I know Yankee management has more info than any of us and they make the decisions, but Chris Carter. Why?

Yankeelover said...

How many teams have a 40 home run hitter. 8 guys hit over 40 last season.
How many teams have a 40 home run hitter that is getting paid only $3 million in 2017. 1

Dane Ostroff said...

I wonder how many of Carters fly ball outs to right field would have been HRs in the Stadium.

Cory said...

Dane Ostroff, maybe 10 fly outs to right field from 320' to 360' could all have been homers in New York?

Steven said...

Khris Davis also hit 40 as is getting paid less.

Seems like a strange move, don't love it. He hits home runs and that's about it. Going to block a young guy too. At least it's only 3 million.

Teena/Bronx said...

One heck of a powerful lineup, but we have Holiday and now Carter. Everyone can't play. Girardi will have many mix and match options against pitchers.

Yankeelover said...

Steven, I think Davis salary for 2017 is five million dollars.

Steven said...

Ah you are correct! Nice little raise he got this year eh.

NJYANKEE said...

I don't really like having Carter, but as already mentioned. it is only for one year. Who will be the odd man out barring injuries? Austin?

Brian Cowley said...

Or Refsynder.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Tyler and Austin are both right handed batters, logical.

White Knight said...

This is no rebuilding year. We are going for all the marbles.

Sharon/NC said...

Like always.

candycane said...

The Yankees seem to have more right hand power than left for this season right now.

Guy Padikian said...

Six days and Yankee camp is open.

Warren Hammond said...

It will be interesting to see how the Carter signing turns out. 40 HRs is impressive, but Carter brings nothing else to the table. Poor fielder and slow runner. I do not like the signing, but that means nothing, and is only my opinion.

Sue Gordon said...

We will see what happens and how the drama turns out.

Phil Jenkins said...

Carters value will be determined the same as everyone else. Production WHEN it matters as to producing when it doesn't. WIN METHOD.

Wilsonsway said...

It would seem the Yankee management is planing on contending this season although some talking heads and dumb fans do not think so.

Frank Sergi said...

I don't think a team can ever have too many pieces. It is how and when to use the right pieces at the right time that determines the results you get.

jimbo said...

You nailed it Frank.

Jerry Curcio said...

We do have a lot of pieces.

Guy Padikian said...

Five more days until camp opens.

Gail Holden said...

Baseball is just around the corner now. Looks like we made it through another sportsless 3 1/2 months.

Yankeeforever said...

Last weekend at home guys. Shape up or get shipped out.

Wayne Littlebear said...

Put up or shut up.

Patricia Piper said...

Fish or cut bait.

Victor Bruno said...

Let it all hang out.

Cal Fuerst said...

Me thinks no baseball is getting to fans here. Lets play baseball and soon.

Ned Porter said...

The real stats tell us Carter hits for power.

Zhaire said...

As spring training begins for the Yankees, let the cream rise to the top.

Pete H said...

Hope the cream overflows.

Stan the Man said...

If Bird can produce this team could be a major contender. His is the big 'if' in my view.

Hugh Frazier said...

May be true, but everyone needs to pull their wieght and contribute.

Guy Padikian said...

Four more days Yankee fans and the trail to the promised land opens.

Amos Eilers said...

Opening day April 2nd in Tampa. We train in Tampa and don't even have to travel for the first three games.

Benny Pake said...

Plus no rainouts.

Xavier Young said...

Everybody remember, we don't need wins until the regular season starts.

Chad Greene said...

Should be fun trying to see where Girardi plays everyone.

candycane said...

The pure joy of no afraud and his getting chucked off the team last season.

Artie S said...

I wonder if afraud will try to hook some youngsters on drugs and peddle them with his lies.

Tom Loughlin said...

I find it an embarrassment that the Yankees would even allow in near the youngsters. But that may have been the only way he could save face and give up playing.

Steven said...

Tom
They could have just cut him outright, clearly they don't mind having him around the team.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Steven, you may be perfectly right. Then again, on the other hand, they may want to use him as a model of what you should not do as a young player and become, a disgraced star. We as fans never know what is going on behind the scenes. Have him around for a few weeks and then he is gone.

jimbo said...

Forget afraud. He is a cancer and won't get an at bat from the Yankees this season or ever again when it counts.

Guy Padikian said...

Three more days until spring training camp.

johnny said...

Yes, baseball is so near. Hooray! Lets go Yankees.

Patricia Piper said...

I will try to never create another post on afraud here again, but I cannot feel sorry nor can I show any compassion for anyone who lied and cheated on their spouse while also lied and cheated their bosses and fans in their profession. afraud is a total disgrace.

Quay Ho said...

Patricia Piper, Hear, hear.

yankeeclipper21 said...

I can't believe the new season is just about here.

Guy Padikian said...

Just two days to go and the Yankee spring training camp will be open to pitchers and catchers on Tuesday.

Jen Vitter said...

How sweet it is. Camp opens on Valentines Day.

Yankeedoodledandy said...

I have always loved this blog and love reading all the posts. Posts that support integrity, winning being the best, common sense, and success. True, a fine blog.

Richmonman said...

The best baseball blog in existence. Can't wait for the spring training games to begin. Hope to get to a couple.

Hector Lopez said...

There is no reason we can't make the playoffs this season. How much further will depend on some of rookie pitchers.

Boston Yankee said...

Hector Lopez, I think you may be right.

Jake Engel said...

Lets win it all.

bigbadwolf said...

Remember fans, the future of this team will be decided on the field by the player and it will be decided with wins.

Hector Lopez said...

bigbadwolf, no question you are right, but we can hope, dream, and wish.

RLA said...

Dream big, then play big.

Guy Padikian said...

Tyler Austin fouls ball off his foot causing small fracture and is first major casualty of spring training. He will miss all of the training period and looks like will start season in AAA.

NJYANKEE said...

Austin going down opens the door for Carter.

Nick Polito said...

Not trying to be funny or minimize Austins injury, but it is a tough break. A sad part of the game.

Augie DeFonce said...

This is the official report on Austins injury.

The Yankees will be without Tyler Austin for the majority of Spring Training after the 25-year-old suffered a small fracture in his left foot, manager Joe Girardi told reporters. Austin sustained the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot in batting practice yesterday. He’ll be in a walking boot for the next three weeks and will be shut down from all baseball activity for six weeks.

John Hartnett said...

Sometimes things happen, you just have to make the best of what life dishes out. Austin will be available later in the season and still have his chance if he dominates AAA.

Guy Padikian said...

Six days until first spring training game next Friday.

Steve said...

Wouldn't someone make a fortune if they could come up with something that is extremely lightweight, extremely strong that could withstand the impact of a baseball, and not interfere with running, that a batter could wear during at bats and go on and off the feet easily.

Mike Smith said...

Rain moving thru Yankee training camp right now.

johnsondc said...

In case anyone hasn't heard. As almost everyone here knew, Dellin Betances lost his arbitration case with the Yankees and will get paid $3 million instead of the $5 million he was stupidly seeking.

Paul Hirschman said...

I can only hope Betances is not losing his WIN METHOD attitude. Getting married can screw up your mind in some cases.

Jill Byrnes said...

It has been mentioned before when Betances announced he was filing for arbitration, but he can't hold runners on and every single runner who tried to steal on him was successful. That is a major drawback for a reliever in close games and gives your opponent a tremendous advantage. Plus he can't throw to bases. I love that he strike out batters in big situations but he has major flaws in my opinion, did not deserve to win his arbitration case (which he did not), and should be glad he is a Yankee.

White Knight said...

Dellin needs to get his head on straight. No question. If he thinks it is OK that every runner that tries to steal on him is always safe, then he has issues.

Yankeedoodledandy said...

We will know soon enough once the season starts if Betances has learned anything or even cares anymore.

Steven said...

Thought it was a little unnecessary for Levine to have a press conference to bash Betances agent afterwards.

Guy Padikian said...

Just five days until first spring training game against the Phillies in Tampa.

Yanks23245 said...

Levine is doing his job. Betances got bad advice from the people representing him and took it. He was misled. Now it is up to Betances to prove Levine wrong and correct his shortcomings and have an outstanding season. If he does he will make a very lot of money either with the Yankees, if he wants to stay a Yankee, or with someone other team. The ball is in Betances hand. Can he hold runners, can he throw to bases, can he excel.

Chad Greene said...

I believe that each player should try to make as much money as they can. But, what Betances was asking for was out of line in my opinion. Levine did the right thing putting Betances handlers and Betances himself in their place. If Betances wants the big bucks he needs to earn it and not look to have it just handed to him. I thought I saw a list of first year arbitration relievers salaries somewhere and no one has gotten paid what the Yankees offered Betances.

Stan the Man said...

To a degree I am surprised that Randy Levine is demeaned for doing his job by people who do not pay him. If the people who pay him are happy that is all that matters. Levine and his people were right, while Betances and his people were wrong. Levine told them so in no uncertain terms. No beating around the bush. Good job.

Val Avery said...

I would think Yankee ownership is very happy with Levine, he has been at his job for 17 years.

Al Ashton said...

Tyler Austin getting hurt opens the door very wide for Carter.

will-i-am said...

Hopefully Levine lit a fire under Betances. Lets see what Betances does on the field in response.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

WIN METHOD defines the difference between winners and losers.

Guy Padikian said...

Four days until first spring training game for the Yankees.

candycane said...

afraud to make an appearance at camp for three days starting tomorrow. That stinks.

Sol Hormel said...

Sure hope afraud can't do too much damage in 3 days.

Bob Behan said...

Louie Louie has looked good so far, but it doesn't matter until you look good when it counts.

Raul Vasquez said...

I find it sad that Randy Levine is taking the verbal abuse from ignorant fans who don't like him. He did what he is paid to do. He explained how foolish and or stupid it was for the other side to demand what they did. He won and proved his point.

Carl Hooks said...

The Levine/Betances issue arises when one side or the other is way off base on the value of the player. Betances was not even in the ballpark and was called on it. He needs to get his head screwed on straight and shape up.

Tim Hergenraeder said...

Yanks23245 & Chad Greene...I agree. Betances has to prove his worth, one way or the other. If he does, he is in the catbirds seat as far as his income. It is up to him now.

Steven said...

I find it sad that seemingly everyone here has turned their back on Betances over this. He's been a great player for us since he's joined the big league club, I haven't seen much in the way of "positive" discussions about him.

Robert Mandel said...

I haven't read anything that is negative regarding Betances except every runner who tries to steal on him is successful and he can't throw to bases. Those are facts. His ability to strike out batters is phenomenal. He is a top level reliever, but he does have short comings and there was no doubt he was not worth what he was asking. If he was duped by his handlers that is still on him. I have read where posters say all he has to do is produce when it counts this season and he earn himself a great payday. Everything I have read is true including the Levine stuff. If he performs and is dissatisfied with the Yankees we will see what happens.

Guy Padikian said...

Three days until Fridays first spring training game.

Sammybigdog said...

Steven, I don't think anyone is knocking Betances ability, but are knocking his decision making in asking for more money than he deserves as of now.
