WIN METHOD SUCCESS

In traveling the country and talking with baseball fans, the questions I get the most are 1.why the WIN METHOD and 2.what makes the WIN METHOD so successful? Most WIN METHOD fans know the answer to these questions already having been followers of the WIN METHOD for many years now. For the skeptics and new fans coming to this blog, I will speak to these questions here. Unfortunately many so many fans of baseball have been dumbed down as to why baseball is played and the desired results sought by most ownership. These dumbed down fans idolize individual statistics. They create and manufacture statistics which tell you little to nothing regarding a players ability to help his team win. In particular, defensive statistics that erroneously measure range of a fielder are totally worthless and are used only by the most ignorant fans of the game. Individual statistics for a hitter tell what a hitter is capable of doing. These stats can tell a hitters propensity for getting a hit, hitting a home run, driving in runs, scoring runs, etc. These individual statistics however, do not tell of the players ability to do what is needed to help his team WIN. A player can be the greatest individually while not being the greatest using the WIN METHOD. Baseball is the ultimate team game. A player scores a run because a team mate may knock him in, a hitter may get an RBI because a team mate got on base to be knocked in. Hitting for a high average is nice, but when you get a hit is usually far more important. Lets talk pitchers for a moment. There are two kinds of statistics for pitchers, those that are strictly individual to the pitcher and those that determine how the team fares. A pitchers job is to WIN or for a bullpen pitcher to hold and or save a game. As the pitchers earn these stats, they are directly related to what their team mates do on the field to allow them to get into the position of earning these individual stats. However, a caveat to a pitchers stat is that a pitchers stat can be directly related to the teams stats. The individual pitchers statistics that only deal with the pitcher himself in the big picture are then relatively meaningless. Wins, holds, and saves are the true measurement of a pitchers ability to help his team succeed. The more wins, holds, and saves the pitching staff earn, the more wins the team earns. And wins is why baseball is played. If you learn anything from the WIN METHOD, learn that wins is why baseball is played. Nothing else matters. Getting back to hitters. A hitter who hits .280 can be more valuable to his team than a .310 hitter on another team. A player with 85 RBIs can be more valuable to his team than a player on another team with 120 RBIs. How can this be? This can be because it is not the individual amassing of personal numbers that matter, it is when these numbers are achieved that matters....For example, a grand slam HR in the eight inning of a game your team is winning 11-2 is meaningless for the team and the end result of the game, but it really adds to the individual players personal stats. While a sacrifice fly in the eight inning to help your team win a one run game can be far more valuable to the team in that it helped the team win the game. I can go on forever, but hopefully you get the gist of the WIN METHOD. The WIN METHOD measures players on their ability to help their team win and solely on their ability to help their tam win. The best of the best players in todays game are the players who help their team to the most playoffs, pennants, and World Series rings.
If anyone has any questions, please post them in the comment section and any of the millions of brilliant WIN METHOD fans will be sure to answer.
Remember WIN METHOD fans, the goal 28 in 11.

Get the hits WHEN they matter. Lead us Captain.

bigbadwolf said...

We get hammered again last night, but what may have been the biggest downer, was when Jeter hit into a DP with the bases loaded and the score 8-5. Yet another defining instance why the WIN METHOD is baseball. WHEN WHEN WHEN, that determines the best, not how many or how much.

Alex Antonius said...

If CC saves us again tonight we would still be tied for first. Scary, isn't it. Wait until we start playing well.

Victor Tinzik said...

I said it when Afraud came to the Yankees and I'm stillsaying it. the biggest problem with this team is Afraud.

Eddie OConnor said...

Do it again CC. Save our souls.

Teena/Bronx said...

hey guys, don't forget the even the best clutch hitters like Jeter, all fail most of the time. the deciding factor is which ones lead their teams to the most playoffs, pennants, and WS rings. And that is unquestionably Derek Jeter.

jane a said...

We have a 6-3 road trip then come home to lose to a team we should beat.

Lee Askew said...

CC can't win every time out and he can't do it by himself. Neither can Jeter.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Afraud did hit a HR yesterday after down 7-0. He does try. LOL

victor Gandozi said...

It's hard to figure why we haven't really jelled as a team this year. Sad to say I always come back to Arod.

Warren Hammond said...

Send a message CC, shut them down completely.

Sharon/NC said...

This would be a nice game to win. Can't just the the sux come here and win a sweep. Wake up Arod.

Teena/Bronx said...

We need to score early and get a lead. Big thunderstorms for later tonight predicted.

Victor Bruno said...

Game delayed. Storms.

Steve said...

Looks like they will be playing baseball over three hour delay. Shut them down CC.

Linda Rice said...

Joba out. CCs wagon loses its wheels in the 7th surrendering a 2-0 lead and losing the game. Whoa is me.

Gus Papa said...

The Yankees sure have some reorganizing to do. We may see some more of our kiddie corps this season.

Cory said...

Help us WIN METHOD. What's going to happen?

Kev Mac90 said...

A quick rebound with a sweep of the Indians is in order.

Giambino said...

1-8 in first 9 games vs the bosux and only 2 games from the top. Smile, be happy, we will overcome.

William Mensom said...

I don't know Gus. The Yankees don;t like to bring up youngsters unless they think the kids can handles the pressure and are ready to perform at a major league level.

RLA said...

We are still WIN METHOD and we are the best. It's a long race and it only counts at the end.

Bob Behan said...

Maybe a wake up call can't hurt.

Warren Hammond said...

We have the horses to finish strong. Jeter will find a way, he always does.

will-i-am said...

That is what is so great about basebal compared to the garbage sports. Baseball can be played everyday. Every game is so different than the other. Different ballparks, different pitchers, different lineups, for six months. Baseball is the best and the best win most often.. Ask Derek Jeter and Mariano rivera.

Linda Pardo said...

The past is gone. Win today and move forward.

Vinnie Ferrero said...

BC can right the ship. Lets go Yankees.

Eddie OConnor said...

Show some character. Get the win and play WIN METHOD baseball.

Almost game time and the rest of the season.

Nova starts with a strong first inning and then Jeter leads his team scoring the first run of a three run first inning for the Yankees.

Nova pitches very well and the bats led by Jeter come alive. 11-7 final.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Lets get some continuity. BC pitches well today and the team scores consistent runs and wins.

Patricia Piper said...

When we start playing well consistently sid, the league better watch out. Get another win today.

bigbadwolf said...

So as to let the bosuxers know. You'll e wondering why you can;t eat the Yankees in the playoffs after winning during the season. Revenge is oh so sweet.

Sharon/NC said...

Think positive... WIN METHOD

Carl Hooks said...

BC had his ad game last out. Big dominating performance today and and easy win again.

Victor Gandozi said...

Lets see who steps up or if a trade is made to bolster the bullpen.

Teena/Bronx said...

chance of showers again. We had some heavy rain overnight. Should be no problem getting in the Yankee win today.

Steve said...

Colon goes down injuring leg covering first. Goes 6 2/3 2 hit shut out innings. Hope it's minor.

johnsondc said...

It's over. 4-0 Yanks. Now just have to wait for the word on colon.

Steve said...

First report BC tweaked his hamstring.

Stan the Man said...

Colon to DL. What next? Yet we hang tough.

Eugene Rico said...

No pressure guys, but I would like to see the hitters step up and carry the ream for a while.

Frank Sergi said...

Jeter leading by example to the Yankees 6-0 lead after five. Garcia doing well.

Don Patesh said...

Jeter with two hits now only needs seven more as he leads his team to another win.

Steve said...

Phil Hughes to get rehab start with Tampa farm team Tuesday. Hitting 92 already.

Linda Rice said...

Good weekend bounce back. Now if AJ rebounds like Garcia did we can have a four game sweep of the Indians. Keep winning.

Phil Jenkins said...

Just keep playing winning baseball and we will rise to the top. The playoffs is the first goal.

RLA said...

Get the win and the sweep today. Lineup keep producing. Jeter leads the way.

Zhaire said...

One game at a time. Win win and win again.

Claude Reeves said...

Bounce back game for AJ also. Do it.

Nate Berkus said...

A sweep after being swept would help. W e need to wake up and maybe the bosux slapping us in the face did the trick.

George W said...

It's that time. Throw strikes AJ. No let downs. WIN

Stan the Man said...

Jeter comes out of game in 5th inning. Injures calf and first prognosis is day to day. Burnett is fantastic going 7 2/3 of one run ball. But loses 1-0. Afraud fails miserably again going 0 for 3 with a disastrous pop out with the bases loaded and no out.

Warren Hammond said...

What a horrid loss. Burnett was solid. The opportunities wasted by the lineup were atrocious. No runs. Bah! Arod, bah!

johnsondc said...

Jeter MRI shows just a mild strain. Determination on how injury will be handled will be discussed this morning. We do need to bounce back against the Rangers tonight after last nights let down. Arod must lead baseball on leaving men on base and not producing WHEN it counts.

YankeeMike said...

I wonder if the Yankees will try to hold jeter out for a week so he can get 3000 in NY.

Teena/Bronx said...

At least Jeter didn't feign pain writhing on the ground like Afraud did when he get hit with a pitch the other day. Ran to first and went into the dugout and off the field like a man with character.

Victor Tinzik said...

CC's turn to rebound tonight. We need to take this series.

Paul Hirschman said...

Go CC, go Yankees.

bigbadwolf said...

Lets hit and score with more consistency. Wake up Arod. HRs when they don't mean anything only satisfy your fantasy freak geeks.

Sam said...

I really don't even understand how you can stand by this argument so confidently. I just want some clarification. So by this logic, Felix Hernandez would be a mediocre player because he only had 13 wins in 2010 despite having a league-leading ERA of 2.27? If this is the case, what would happen if a player such as Felix were traded to the Yankees and won 10 more games in a season due to the huge increase in run support while pitching just as well? Does he just become a "better player" even though the only difference is the rest of the team?

Anonymous said...

12 runs off a pitcher who is 7-0 and not one run the night before. Well a laugher and a win. Do it again today.

William Mensom said...

It is not hard to understand Sam. It is just common sense. The goal of each game is for the team to win. Wins are more important than ERA. Blaming other players on a team that loses and lauding a player because of his individual stats is foolish. AJ Burnett lost a game 1-0 the other night. He did not win. CC Sabathia gave up 4 runs last night and won. I will take the win over the loss every day of my life before I would take the ERA.
If Hernandez is so good, all he needs to do is play out his contract sign with whomever he feels will help him win and then pitch and prove he can win. I've seen many a player over the years try that and fail. there is a major difference pitching for teams in pennant battles and under the glare of the bright lights and scrutiny of fans after every game. Winning and wins is what determines the best in the real baseball world. It is individual stats that determines the best in the fantasy world. I go to a game and root for my team to WIN. How the WIN is accomplished may change every game and in any of millions of ways by any combination of events and players. The best players WIN the most often.

Fred Slube said...

Jeets on the DL for 15 days. Step it up guys and cover for him.

Steve said...

Question for you Sam. You have two teams in the same division who score exactly the same amount of runs over the season. Team A has has five startes with each starters ERA at 3.00 and their W/L records at 14-14 each. You have team B with five startes who have an ERA of 4.25 each and ther W/L records are 18-10. Which team would you rather have? Which pitchers would you rather have?

sid greenberg/nyc said...

And for hitters, you get and RBI when a team mate has reached base and who score him, even with an out. You get a run scored when a team mate knocks you home, even with an out. Most importantly however, is WHEN you get the RBIs and score runs. RBIs attained after the game outcome has virtually been decided are relatively meaningless, but RBIs that determine the game are invaluable. The desired outcome is always the WIN, and wins determine who is best. not how high your average, or how much or how many you attain individually.

Lonnie W said...

Last nights win was solid. Do it again.

Victor Gandozi said...

Hi Sam. Welcome to the world of real baseball.

Yankees starting 32 year old minor leaguer from the Phillie organization who has been 5-0 at AAA this season. If we hit we win.

Mickey Morch said...

We score in double figures, we aren't going to lose many games. Keep it going.

Giambino said...

Just to set the record straight Sam. king felix is the King of nothing unless he wins games. Another question for you, would you rather have Hernandez this season with a 21-5 record and a 4.24 ERA or with a 14-12 record and a 2.50 ERA?

Sharon/NC said...

Earn the sweep today. Then hit the road on a run.

Eddie OConnor said...

Our bullpen is held together with a finger in the hole in the wall of the dam. Still being smart and slowly developing out young stud stars.

2-2 at the end of eight. Mo in for the ninth.

AAA said...

2-2 into the 11th. Yankee bullpen has been used up. AA newbe for the 11th.

Steve said...

Gardner delivers game winning hit WHEN it counts for 3-2 win in 12th inning. Cory Wade gets the WIN getting 6 up and 6 down in the 11th and 12th.

Victor Tinzik said...

Nice win giving Yanks 6-4 home stand after losing first three to the sux.

johnsondc said...

Hey Sam, it is the win thatcounts and only the win. Todays game is a solid example of the team winning and any player or combintation of players contributing in many sorts of ways.

William Mensom said...

Solid WIN METHOD win. Just what we needed. Now for 12 games against the inferior nl. 3 in Chicago, 3 in Cincy, then 3 each with Colorado and Milwaukee at home. Would love to go 8-4 or better.

Alex Antonius said...

Ambitious William, but very reasonable. Girardi has held this team together very well considering the setbacks of so many players. The relief in todays game was impeccable.

Linda Pardo said...

And we got defense at third base today with Pena replacing Arod. Just need to keep winning.

Teena/Bronx said...

If the wind is blowing out at Wrigley we may hit 15 home runs in the 3 games.

Mike Smith said...

Just as long as we win in any way shape or form.

Patricia Piper said...

Garcia to open Cub series this afternoon in Chicago. Score some runs guys.

Tom Loughlin said...

Love an afternoon game today and tomorrow. ESPN and their Sunday night games suck.

Mike Smith said...

Keep the wins coming. They are what determine the best.

Mark Wogaman said...

Hey Tom. Not only does ESPN, the Sunday night game, but all their talking heads suck.

YankeeMike said...

Superior AL pitchers have the advantage of a free inning pitching in inferior nl parks while the nl pitchers are disadvantaged pitching in the AL parks.

Glen28 said...

Our day game record is the best in team history so far. Keepit going. Fool em Fredy.

Frank Sergi said...

Wonder if Posada will be allowed to catch a game while the team is in the nl parks.

Steve said...

Garcia getting roughed up. 3-0 Cubbies after 3.

Steve said...

Garcia settles down. Still 3-0 Cubs after 7.

Steve said...

A loss 3-1. Bats pretty much silent, with Arod completely useless again. Not a good start for the road trip.

Sharon/NC said...

I hate games like todays. Nobody really puts the bat on the ball. Shouldn't lose games like this.

Bert Jackson said...

I agree Sharon and Steve. The lineup looked like it was just going through the motions. Jeter needs to get back and lead this team.

Eddie OConnor said...

Try again tomorrow, hopefully will get better results.

Harry Stavris said...

Even the series today, come out swinging.

Laura Koehler said...

Burnett gets the ball to try to even the series. a few runs sure would help. Are you alive Arod?

Warren Hammond said...

Give Arod a break. He is still hurting from getting hit in the arse last week and writhing in pain. LOL

Izzy Hernandez said...

AJ needs to throw strikes and control the game. Ultimately WIN.

Jeff Miller said...

Get back on track, score some runs and get good pitching today.

Ken Shepherd said...

To get our 15 HRs we will need an awful lot of production from the lineup today and tomorrow. jk

Quay Hoy said...

It would be nice to get some runs right off the bat, but with Jeter out, it won't be easy.

Deb F said...

Hard earned WIN METHOD win today. AJ fights for the win with the bullpen again doing a spectacular job. Rubber game tomorrow.

Eugene Rico said...

It may not nave been the prettiest, but a win is a win.

David Stern said...

CC pitches the series deciding game. Yes it is on ESPN at 8pm. If anyone watches or believes anything on that network but for sporting events, they are crazy.

William Mensom said...

With CC on the mound, this is a game you want to win. It means the series, a good start to the road trip, and keeps the ball rolling in a positive direction.

will-i-am said...

Only 12 hours to game time. ESPN sucks.

Zhaire said...

Tough win yesterday. Try for a easy one today.

Glen A said...

DO it CC. You also can get a hit.

Teena/Bronx said...

I would love to watch a game this afternoon, but alas I am in the same boat with everyone, have to wait till late tonight. Go Yankees.

Eddie OConnor said...

Bring it home CC. Just wins guys, just wins.

Cory said...

Lets get some runs and get a fairly easy win tonight.

Ted L said...

Throw strikes CC. Shut down the Cubbies.

RLA said...

Wins solves all problems and gets you to the playoffs.

Steve said...

Hughes has his first rehab start today for single A Staten Island Yankees. Goes 4 1/3 allowing two singles and one HR and one walk while striking out seven of the thirteen outs he got. Will have to see reactions, comments, and how he comes out of the stint.

Linda Pardo said...

Great news about Hughes. Can't wait to see how he responds and what the professional analysis is.

Gus Papa said...

Thanks for the update Steve. Wonder how hard Hughes was throwing. Need CC to earn us the win tonight to keep moving forward to the playoffs.

bigbadwolf said...

CC not sharp and struggling. 4-4 after 6.

bigbadwolf said...

Swisher with a 3 run HR in the 8th. Robertson pitches a scoreless 8th. and the Yankees lead 7-4 after 8. CC in line for the win.

Giambino said...

CC win. We win the series. Score 10-4, but it wasn't that close, being 4-4 after seven. Hey, guess who knocked in the 10th and most meaningless run of the game for the Yankees. Yep, you got it, Afraud.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Same old same old for Arod. Alot of rbis when they don't matter. But we won. On to Cincy for three.

Gus Papa said...

The Cub bullpen has nothing while we have the best in baseball. That was the game.

Vinnie Ferrero said...

Just have to keep the wins coming. Get it done tonignt.

Kenny Shepherd said...

Get it done guys. Win the first one.

Stan the Man said...

Whoa Nellie, has Nova looked good. One run three hit ball thru seven innings. Yanks up 4-1 after seven with all runs for both teams scored in the first inning.

Linda Rice said...

Ayala and Logan gave up the runs in the ninth forcing Rivera into the game to save it. Keep winning guys.

Warren Hammond said...

If Nova can pitch like he did last night on a consistent basis, he will be a very solid 2 or 3.

Bob Behan said...

Gordon should be getting his second start tonight. Hope he does as well as his first one and even improve a little.

George W said...

Gordon is going. Yes, another good game from him would be super. The bats need to put up a few more runs.

johnsondc said...

RAIN OUT.

Roger D said...

Last night rain out will make for a split double header today. Garcia going in the afternoon game and Gordon going in tonight game. Taking two would be great, however the minimum of a split will be tolerable.

Sharon/NC said...

If we can win with our present four and five starters right now, that would be a feather in our cap. the bats have to be in action today.

Frank Sergi said...

We all our ailments and woes we are still hanging tough.

will-i-am said...

Pete H said...

Garcia hanging tough. Up 4-2 after six.

Steve said...

Final 4-2. The series is ours. Go for the sweep tonight. Posada homers as Afraud sits out.

Cory said...

We got a good one from Garcia. Lets see if Gordon can do it too.

Steve said...

Gordon gets rocked. Yankee bats are empty again with Afraud in the lineup and Afraud delivers one of his patented late inning meaningless RBIs with the Yanks down 7-1 and the game ultimately decided.

bigbadwolf said...

4 of 6 on an inferior league road trip is acceptable. Off today and then 6 at home with the inferior league.

William Mensom said...

Gordon is just a minimal stop gap. Colon and Hughes will be back soon. Then the run will begin.

Yankeeforever said...

IF we keep winning 2 of 3, will will win the division. IF.

No if Yankeeforever. We will make the playoffs. That is step one.

Lou Lis said...

Has anyone heard anything about how Chavez is doing and if he will be back?

Victor Gandozi said...

Here is the latest news reports I have seen Out just a little while ago............."""""""""""The Yankees' captain has been working out at the team's spring training complex. He could increase his on-the-field workout in the next couple days.

Also, right-hander Bartolo Colon and infielder Eric Chavez increased their onfield drills as they rehab injuries.

Colon, sidelined by a strained right hamstring, ran sprints in the outfield for the first time in addition to his third consecutive day of long toss. Chavez, out with a broken left foot, said he was fine after running from home to first around a half-dozen times.""""""""""

Looks like good news all around. Hughes should get another rehab start very soon also.

bigbadwolf said...

Sometimes it appears to me that the Yankee hitters are always trying to hit home runs. Just hits WHEN they matter WINS games.

Gus Papa said...

Our pitchers shouldn't have to pitch one or two run games to win as often as they do. Scoring 6 runs a game average is the BS it is when you win 11-4 and lose 3-1. Your team meaningless stats may look good but at .500 ball you do not make the playoffs.

Linda Pardo said...

We need CC to even the series today and then take tomorrows game and all be be good.
