MLB 2026 PLAYOFFS

2026 Major League Baseball playoffs

The 2026 MLB regular season is over.  It is now playoff time.
The playoffs will begin tomorrow Tuesday September 29th. The twelve best teams of the thirty that started the 2026 season will meet in a four round elimination format where the best players and teams will play until the final two teams meet in the World Series to determine who will be crowned the 2026 world champions.  The format is a win and move on to the next round or lose and go home.

The twelve teams are the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, and San Diego Padres.  *The teams are listed due to wild-card placement rules.

The playoffs will last approximately one month.  The final two teams will meet in the World Series where the winner will be crowned the baseball champion of the world.

Our YANKEES will play in the first round hosting the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium in a best of three game series scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The listed starting pitchers are Schlittler, Fried, and Cole.

LET'S GO YANKEES!!!

The top six teams are really good. I think the WS will be one of them but won't be totally surprised if one of the other six win it all. If Yankee pitching holds up, they can win it all.

The sux manager is starting a left-handed pitcher to try to make Yankees activate and add Judge and Stanton to roster.

Schlittler over the season was out best and most consistent starter. He deserves the first start of this post season. The lineup will be the key. Boone stilling mulling his options with the bosux starting a lefty. That may be out Achilles heel.

A big plus will be winning the first game. But the Yankees don't seem to produce when it matters most when Schlittler starts. πŸ™

Waiting for the first playoff game for the past three days is killing me. Best of three game series is excruciating, it's over if you lose any series, only the winning team moves to the next series.

Ten hours to game time. I can feel the tenseness in my bones. Lets go Yankees!!!!!!

coryankee said...

A lot of pressure on Schlittler tonight. He seems calm, cool, and collected. But tonight is different in many ways. Think about it, you play six months of baseball to move on to the playoffs, then each series is a day to day elimination.

YankeeMike said...

Judge not on wild card roster, Stanton and Grisham are.

Lee Kane said...

Well, Stanton can always pinch hit in a big spot. Can he make contact, and can he run after making contact? Grisham may be in the same boat.

Here is a stat for you. Not a stat fraud stat, but a true factual stat that the WIN METHOD always uses. There have been over 2,400+ MLB games played so far this season. Tonight, Cam Schlittler threw more pitches, 117, in one game than any other pitcher.

Jerry Curcio said...

Rice, Wells, and Lombard carried the offense last night. Who will do it tonight?

Izzy Hernandez said...

Fried to dazzle and confuse the sux tonight with his assortment of pitches, albeit with less velocity than Schlitter yet effective enough to win. Lineup needs to pound the dweeb Gray.

Spencer Jones Appreciation Post
Throughout all of the happiness and belt to ass whipping we gave the Sox last night, one play stood out to me the most. To start the 6th inning, which is right after Contreras took his slow HR trot in the top of the inning, Spencer Jones struck out swinging on a ball that got by the Sox Catcher Adley Rustchman.

Now we have seen in the past (and even this season), that guys do not hustle to first on pop outs, ground outs, etc. Spencer Jones puts his head down and hustled his way to first, forcing Adley Rutschman to make a near perfect throw to first. Jones reaches due to Rutschman taking an extra fraction of a second and Contreras positioning himself at the back of 1st rather than front of the bag. Jones then steals second base, and proceeds to take 3rd on Rutschman's throwing error. He then scores on a George Lombard Jr. single. What followed was the biggest offensive inning of the series, scoring 6 runs. What did Jones show us? NEVER STOP PLAYING/RUNNING HARD. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Nathan Riley said...

Tony Manchu said...

Last chance, top of ninth down 1-0.

Quay Ho said...

Three up three down in ninth, Yanks lose one heck of a great game 1-0. Yankees never threatened in game. Lineup was bamboozled and befuddles from start to finish.

Swen Jorgensen said...

The toughest type of game to lose, 1-0. So the Yanks will even the series Monday.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 1-0. What can you say when you don't score a run, but you can't win. Must win 3 of the next 4 games or the Yankee season is over.

muchomachoman said...

Crazy game in Milwaukee last night as Padres in top of ninth hit a ball that would have been the likely game winning home run, but the ball hits a support of the roof, is in play and is caught by the leftfielder in front of the wall for an out and a Milwaukee 'home field' win.

WIN METHOD said...

WIN METHOD baseball in all its splendor strikes again. Down 3-2 coming to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Milwaukee Brewers load the bases with two outs and Jackson Chourio produces when it matters the most by lining game winning walk off two rbi single to center field for a 4-3 win. The win gives the Brewers a 2-0 game lead in the best of five series as the teams head to San Diego for game three on Tuesday. Baseball day after day, game after game is the greatest game in the world.

Neil Golub said...

I'll be first to say it. After his extended 117 start Schlittler should not have pitched tonight. Rodon could easily have started. Outcome could not be any worse than it has been so far tonight.

Sue Gordon said...

Rice hits his second HR of game in 8th. Yanks down 5-2. Last chance in 9th.

Phil Jenkins said...

Bad game for Yankees, but it has been happening all season.

will-i-am said...

Final. Yankees lose 5-2. The defense failed and set the tone in first inning with three errors, The offense was one man, Ben Rice with two solo home runs was all the Yankees got all game. Shlittler should never have pitched tonight and it showed, compounded by the Yankee errors and lack offense.

muchomachoman said...

Let me be the first to say it. The Yankees now need to win the next three games. If they do not, their season is over and they all can head home. Game one is Wednesday in NY. Game two is Thursday int NY? Game three is Saturday in Tampa? Win or go home.

jimbo said...

Torre Made Pitchers Adjust. Boone Lets Them Settle In.
This is where I miss the Torre-era lineups.

They weren't literally L-R-L-R every night, but they had balance: lefties, righties and switch hitters throughout the order. A pitcher had to keep changing his approach from batter to batter.

With Boone, stacking lefties against a RH starter may win the platoon matchup on paper, but it can also let a pitcher settle into the same plan for several hitters in a row.

It also makes bullpen management easier. With the 3-batter minimum, L-R-L creates a matchup problem. L-L-L can make the decision obvious.

The other issue is this lineup doesn't grind enough at-bats.

In Game 1, the Yankees made Rasmussen throw 51 pitches through three innings.

Then he needed just:

9, 9, 14, 11 and 7 pitches over the next five.

That's way too comfortable in a playoff game.

The Torre teams had guys who could foul pitches off, work counts and make pitchers earn outs. Even when they weren't hitting, they could wear a starter down and get into the bullpen.

After the Game 1 offensive disaster, Boone should have made real lineup changes. It's the playoffs. You can't just keep running the same formula out there because the matchup looks good analytically.

Mix the handedness. Grind at-bats. Make pitchers adjust. Make the manager actually have to think about bullpen usage.

Mike Smith said...

Excellent analysis.

sid greeberg,nyc said...

Likely being one of the oldest followers of the WIN METHOD and loving it. jimbo's comment about L-R-L-R-L-R lineups takes me back to Casey Stengel who used that lineup concept regularly. I believe Miller Huggins in the late 1920's initiated it with the Yankee powerhouse led by Ruth and Gehrig.

Sean Smith said...

Must win game tomorrow, one at a time. Lets go Yankees.

George M. Steinbrenner was his own man, a leader, bar none. He led his life and did things his way. He was successful in everything he did, including the Yankees and his GREAT legacy. He wanted to win and was a winner. He did it all his way, not anyone else's way, his way. The recent Yankee failure has come at the hands of his family who inherited a great team. Their leadership, most importantly, LACK of leadership has built them a monetary fortune, but has destroyed the winning tradition, the winning drive, the desire to be the best at any cost. I have been a Yankee fan forever, and I do mean forever, Longer than likely many/most of you have been alive. All I can add now is, lets win the next three games and move on to the next round of games. We cannot do anything on how the teams is run or their ownership, but we can still root for our team. LET'S GO YANKEES.

Jones up, walks on four pitches, Chisholm up, one on one out, Ground force out 4 to 6, should have been double play but first baseman drops ball, Grisham up, one on one out, Chisholm steals second, Grisham strikes out pathetically. looks like in a few weeks people are going to be voting to destroy the country, Texas has not voted for a Democrat statewide in over 30 years, Why are they doing it now Domengo? Other than grocery prices, gas prices, the tariffs being passed to the consumer and hurting farmers, and starting another war in the Middle East. We have the hottest country right now. Maybe Trump can finish the ballroom before the midterms? A beautiful ballroom might get the people back on his side? Wait how has job growth been lately? Do we have anything, any metric that Trump made better? I dont care about any of that stuff, I just feel better since he won, thats good enough for me.

Cleveland up 3-2 after six.

Did Republicans pull money from North Carolina and Georgia and put into Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, and Nebreska? Is South Carolina really in play? Trump has the hottest economy. Bill O'Reilly is right, most people do not understand Macroeconomics. Bill said all the steakhouses he goes to on the Upper West Side of Manhattan are jam packed, see the economy is booming. Why are so many people angry? Ok I'm getting ready to watch The Five.

Cleveland hangs on winning game three 3-2 to take 2 game to 1 lead in best of seven series. Pretty good game.

Indians best Rays 3-2.

Attention fellow Patriots, Bill O'Reilly just made a great point on Newsnation. Inflation is up 3.7%. and the average home is paying 2 thousand dollars more for energy. But like Bill said if you are concerned about the United States other than your own wallet, is it worth the chance that you are going to vote for a party that is going to rip up traditional America? Bills worth 100 million dollars, he gets Macroeconomics. I'm voting to keep traditional America, if that means eating Beefaroni 5 nights a week and wearing two jackets to go to bed, so be it. I wonder if things get real desperate, will Bill lend me 2000 dollars?

It's official WIN METHOD fans; we have a demented whacked out freak on the blog. They do what they do best, lie, cheat, steal, and then lie some more. Ignore the piece of DSA garbage. They are all garbage and will do anything to destroy America and the American people. Just go vote to save America, your family, your friends: VOTE REPUBLICAN that will shut them up until the next election.

Acronyms can be very telling about the people who support the policies and beliefs of the acronym. Below, we have two, who do you want to be and support???

MAGA: >> MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN

DSA: >> DEMOCRAT SCUM OF AMERICA

Fred Slube said...

Even though the WIN METHOD is a Yankee baseball blog, I never minded the political comments because they were positive and supporting of America and the American people. When the DSA jerks comment, everything goes down the drain into the sewer. They blame the republicans who are doing all they can to help us, while they support the negativity and dishonesty of the people destroying everything they can. All you have to do is look at the 'blue states' and see the hell holes they are,

Fred never minded the political comments when he agreed with them. Cool.

Mamdani is DSA and President Trump said he was doing a great job. are you saying President Trump is not telling the truth? I hated Mamdani but that all changed when President Trump said he was doing a great job.

NLCS game four tonight in Los Angeles Brewers and Dodgers. Brewers need one more win to advance to WS. Dodgers would need four wins in a row to go to the WS.

Why is everybody so triggered and angry? Polymarket is giving Abdul El-Sayed a 71% chance to win, what are you all going to do if that happens? The anger and hatred we will see on here the day after the elections. Me, I'll just scream ABDUL ABDUL ABDUL in my pajamas after he beats that mummy Rodgers.

Anonymous: Since 2008 when this blog was created by WIN METHOD, almost every comment was baseball related. When Covid the (Chinese Virus) came upon the world and baseball was shut down for a period of time, political comments appeared. Putting these comments in perspective about 97% are baseball oriented and 3% political. Of the 3% political comments, 99% are positive, uplifting pro America and American comments. Positive republican conservative comments. Then there are the slightly less than 1% of the other comment are from demented sick DSA posters, many which use no name, like you. These people are the scum of America, like you, they hate good, hate success, hate America, and hate the American people. They tow the lien and worship the garbage, terrorists, illegal aliens of the world. In other words, their brain, like yours, is up their rear end. They are the DSA, democrat scum of America. Comment all you want, no one accepts your ignorance of the DSA ignorance.

As Mel Allen would say, How about that, Yankee fans! The Milwaukee Brewers down 4-0 after two innings, chip away 2, chip away 2, chip away 1, and chip away 1, for 6 runs and sweep the LA Dodgers in four games with a 6-4 win tonight. Brewers going to the World Series for the first time in 44 years. Well done guys, well done.

TV coverage of Cleveland/Tampa game four is now on the air. The field has been covered, the infield is dry, the rest of the field is soaked big time, and in my opinion should not be played on. But TV equals MONEY. TV trio of commentators all agree, MLB doesn't give a damn about the outfielders nor the outfield conditions. Presently we are in a RAIN DELAY!

Silly me, I googled the 10 poorest states now. Erica's taking into account the outlook "going forward". Arkansas is the 4th poorest state in the country "right now". Erica is outlook going forward mean in the year 2190? Erica are you drinking uo that Sarah Huckabee cope on Fox News? Arkansas HaHaHaHa . California only has the 4th largest economy in the world, just have to overlook all the dung and needles in the street.

I moving to one of the states on Erica's " outlook going forward list". I heard by the year 2255 that Utah is going to be the next Malibu.

How close will the Blue Wave have to get to the shore before President Trump starts talking about ballots being thrown in a river? Democrats are already acting like they won, just wait until the Republicans gain 5 points on the generic ballot because President Trump spent 5 minutes talking about the two cranes building his ballroom. That kind of stuff plays well with voters who cant afford to put gas in their cars. Stop the DSA! These people want to have people work for a reasonable wage and be able to buy healthcare and have enough money to heat their house's. VOTE REPUBLICAN
