WIN METHOD --- SPRING TRAINING 2018

The YANKEES play their first spring training game of 2018 tomorrow.  The players, the team, and the fans are looking forward to a very good season in 2018.  The playoffs are a must, and then advancing far as they can through the playoffs is the goal.  With hopefully getting to and winning the World Series the ultimate goal.

There are so many youngsters in this camp and in the YANKEE minor league system who are blooming and growing, each at their own rate.  Many of which will help the YANKEES win games this season, next season, and in future seasons.  Keep an eye out for Jhony Brito in the future. He could be special. And we all know success, greatness, and being the best can only be earned with wins and winning.   WIN METHOD fans who have read and posted on this blog for almost a decade now already know this.  You newcomers to this blog will learn real baseball here, not fantasy games, not with fake stats, and not with man made convoluted formulas that have no real value and are therefore meaningless.   You can't be the best unless you win.

The YANKEE acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton, who has always wanted to be a YANKEE and who used his power to negate trades and to what team he would be traded to forced the Miami Marlins into trading him to the YANKEES.  Stanton added to the lineup of Judge, Sanchez, Bird, Gregorius, and others will make for a very formidable offense.

The YANKEES have a couple of rookies looking to make their MLB debut this season with YANKEES.  Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres at third base and second base will make their debuts at some point this season as they bloom and grow.   Rookie pitchers Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield both may have an impact at some point this season for the YANKEES.

As the spring training games begin, lets all hope for a healthy injury free spring and much blooming and growing.  LETS GO YANKEES!

Nice to see solid tuneups from Monty and Tanaka the last two days.

Our bats with everyone in a different spot in the lineup looked terrible today. Plus no one produced when it mattered. Ah spring training.

Steven said...

Oh sorry, I forgot I was amongst geniuses. The point is that a win is a full team statstic, so assigning it to an individual is rather senseless.

If a pitcher pitchers 32 games and gives up 1 runs every start, he can be 0-32 if his team doesn’t score a run. It’s not reflective soley on him as a pitcher.

So yeah - looking at W-L record as an indicator of future performance is silly. Key word is future performance here. Make sense to you brilliant minds?

Gloria LaCorte said...

All the team has to do is play WIN METHOD baseball and all will be fine.

Stan the Man said...

Steven, You continue to deny the facts and the truth, baseball has credited pitchers with a win or loss for every game played since baseball began. Every pitcher that has won 300 games is in the Hall of Fame. Wins is what determines who wins each game. It doesn't take a brilliant mind to know that. Little leaguers know the difference between winning and losing. It would take someone with very little intelligence to think wins have no meaning. Steven, you have defined yourself once again. That's what makes sense. Also, if's don't count, neither do and's and but's. Wins count and wins determine the best.

Wilsonsway said...

Stan the Man, Steven is a twit doesn't give up making a fool of himself.

Jen Vitter said...

Guys, that is the modus operandi of stat frauds. They deny winners, winning, and wins in order to bolster their individual stats.

Izy Hernandez said...

I would rather win than lose, and I would hope my teammates feel the same way.

I guess Steven thinks all the people thru the history of baseball who have assigned wins to pitchers are all stupid and only he and his ignorant stat fraud fools are smart.
Steven should be in the HOF for losers and ignoramuses.

I found both lineups and interesting blend of talent, with both being major league quality.

The Yankees did dump Wade Deblank you was pathetic this spring and he was quickly signed by the Seattle Mariners to a MLB contract. Little things like this show the depth of the Yankee bullpen and the lack of depth for a team like the Mariners.

Ziggy Mann said...

Lets win two at the same time. Lets go Yankees.

jimbo said...

Louie Louie goes five innings with just under 80 pitches. Gave up two runs on a two run HR. Looked good but for one off inning.

Craig Winstead said...

Asam Warren has had an awful spring. Seems to be always in trouble and getting hit pretty hard.

Ziggy Mann said...

Yanks win two games at the same time today. Split team one defeats the Braves on the road 8-3. And split team two defeats the Blue Jays 13-6 at home. Six run innings in each game.

Birds pain today is in the same area he had surgery last season. That does not bode well.

Brian Keller is listed starter for Yankees tomorrow.

Bird meeting with foot specialist in New York, Monday. Lets hope for the best.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

I am not a doctor, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night. If Bird did not do anything to reinjure is foot/ankle such as turn it, sprain it, twist it, hit a foul ball off it, or any of several other possibilities, it then be may be likely one of a few things, issue with the actual surgery itself (doubtful), too much action too fast (?), scar tissue creating irritation (maybe), or something else. Let the real doctor find out.

Yankee fans are hopefully optimistic as they patiently await the diagnosis and prognosis regarding Greg Birds discomfort in his foot and ankle.

Right now Gray is the #5 starter in the rotation. If he can produce like a #3 he would be a big asset for the Yankees.

Still no word on the Birdman.

Hugh Johanson, I think you just nicknamed Bird here. I like it. Birdman.

bigbadwolf said...

Here's the Birdman update.

Yankees first baseman Greg Bird will miss the first six to eight weeks of the season after undergoing surgery Tuesday on his injured right ankle, the team announced Monday.

Bird was a late scratch before Saturday’s spring training game after complaining of soreness in his foot during batting practice. He returned to New York to visit a foot specialist.

An injury to the same ankle—suffered when he fouled a ball off his foot in the team’s final spring training game—kept Bird out for most of 2017. He also missed the entire 2016 season with a shoulder injury.

With Bird injured, the Yankees will turn to Tyler Austin and Neil Walker to play first base. Walker was supposed to be the starter at second, which means Tyler Wade and Ronald Torreyes should see increased playing time.

Not the best news, not the worst news.

KevMac said...

Bird has to be very unlucky or very fragile. One man's bad luck just creates a major opportunity for Wade who should be seeing a lot of time at second base.

Guy Padikian said...

Monday 3/26 7:35pm
Sonny Gray (R)
@ Braves - Brandon McCarthy (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) DH
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
7. Neil Walker (S) 1B
8. Brandon Drury (R) 3B
9. Tyler Wade (L) 2B
Looks like this could be your opening day lineup WIN METHOD fans.

Jeff Miller said...

This time Bird has a broken bone spur.

HerecomestheJudge said...

Gray has looked pretty decent tonight so far allowing one run thru four innings.

jimbo said...

Gray finishes with five strong innings. Betances with a 3 K 6th. Robertson with a 1,2,3 7th.

will-i-am said...

Yankee final game of spring training is over with a 5-1 win. Two days off and we start the season. LETS GO YANKEES.

Jill Byrnes said...

From here on and for 162 games nothing matters but producing when it counts and no other stat in the world is more important than wins. Choke on those words stat frauds.

Phil Esposito said...

jimbo, I agree. Gray looked good last night. If he can be a solid number three that would be great. CC already is a pretty solid three. We will see our first four this weekend in Toronto.

Nathan Riley said...

A bone spur floating around is aggravating to anyone who has one. The surgery to remove it is minimally invasive and Bird should only be in a foot cast for about a week. All will be fine.

Zhaire said...

The Birdman shall make his presence felt this season.

YankeeMike said...

Birdman goes down and this team doesn't miss a beat. Depth, depth, depth, right into AAA.

Cory said...

As the season starts in 2 days, try to win each series and play WIN METHOD baseball, producing when it counts. Wins and only wins can take you to the playoffs. No other stat or combination of stats make any difference. It is just wins, and everyone on the team contributes to wins.

Gus Papa said...

Lets start the season with a bang, many bangs, making for many wins.

OK WIN METHOD fans. Here's to one great Yankee season. First goal, win enough games to win the division. Then we go from there.

Frank Sergi said...

Lets get off to a good start in our first ten games.

Cory said...

I will be doing the ten game sets and posting them here as I did last season.
Here is the sets from last season.
10. 6-4
20. 7-3 = 13-7
30. 8-2 = 21-9
40. 3-7 = 24-16
50. 6-4 = 30-20
60. 7-3 = 37-23
70. 2-8 = 39-31
80. 4-6 = 43-37
90. 4-6 = 47-43
100. 7-3 = 54-46
110. 5-5 = 59-51
120. 6-4 = 65-55
130. 5-5 = 70-60
140. 5-5 = 75-65
150. 8-2 = 83-67
160. 7-3 = 90-70
Note the sets from games 61-90. We were 10-20. That is awful baseball. Still finished 91-71. With everything else staying the same if that 30 game skid could be bettered this season to just 15-15 that would mean this season could wind up 96-66. If we improve the three 5-5 sets from last season by one game that would take this season to 99-63. And if we raise the 3-7 set to 4-6 that could take this season to 100 wins.
It will be up to the players on the field producing when it matters most, but it is surely possible.

Steve said...

Great post Cory. Will be looking forward to your posts.

Lou Lis said...

Cory, great stuff. Thanks.

Augie Defonce said...

Cory, looking back at last seasons sets is awesome and it really does paint a picture of the season.

Zhaire said...

Looking back on last year, that one 30 game rotten streak hurt bad and likely cost the Yankees the division. Not winning the division likely didn't hurt the team in the playoffs considering how far they got.

Stan the Man said...

German with a rough first inning. Yanks down 3-0.

will-i-am said...

Final, Yankees win 4-2 scoring 3 runs on small ball opposite field run producing single, bunt single to load bases and Baltimore chop single for 2 more runs.
