WIN METHOD --- SPRING TRAINING 2018

The YANKEES play their first spring training game of 2018 tomorrow.  The players, the team, and the fans are looking forward to a very good season in 2018.  The playoffs are a must, and then advancing far as they can through the playoffs is the goal.  With hopefully getting to and winning the World Series the ultimate goal.

There are so many youngsters in this camp and in the YANKEE minor league system who are blooming and growing, each at their own rate.  Many of which will help the YANKEES win games this season, next season, and in future seasons.  Keep an eye out for Jhony Brito in the future. He could be special. And we all know success, greatness, and being the best can only be earned with wins and winning.   WIN METHOD fans who have read and posted on this blog for almost a decade now already know this.  You newcomers to this blog will learn real baseball here, not fantasy games, not with fake stats, and not with man made convoluted formulas that have no real value and are therefore meaningless.   You can't be the best unless you win.

The YANKEE acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton, who has always wanted to be a YANKEE and who used his power to negate trades and to what team he would be traded to forced the Miami Marlins into trading him to the YANKEES.  Stanton added to the lineup of Judge, Sanchez, Bird, Gregorius, and others will make for a very formidable offense.

The YANKEES have a couple of rookies looking to make their MLB debut this season with YANKEES.  Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres at third base and second base will make their debuts at some point this season as they bloom and grow.   Rookie pitchers Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield both may have an impact at some point this season for the YANKEES.

As the spring training games begin, lets all hope for a healthy injury free spring and much blooming and growing.  LETS GO YANKEES!

Yanks play Mets tomorrow with Cessa starting. 1 PM. On TV.

muchomachoman said...

Cessa has been really used a lot. Is he being auditioned?

Tommy Lee said...

muchomachoman, maybe, I don't know how the Yanks can use him unless there are a couple of injuries to the top of the rotation.

Last year Tanaka had a great spring then got clobbered opening day. Maybe he will reverse it this spring since he got clobbered first outing last week.

Everyone needs to remember, and all you newcomers to the WIN METHOD blog, wins and winning are what determines the best players and teams. It is what you do for the team that is more important than what you do for yourself.

LOL at using few regulars to give Mets a chance today. Sad part is it is true.

Benny Pake said...

Today's game is a roadie for the Yankees and very few big name regulars make these bus trips.

Here is a quote from an article by Dan Blewett about spin rates in baseball.
"""Preoccupying pitchers with how hard they are throwing, how fast their slider is spinning, etc. is a TERRIBLE idea for pitchers who need to win games and get outs – the only thought in these situations is executing a good pitch."""
Bingo, pitchers need to win games.

Lori Kelly said...

With Yanks in Tampa tomorrow Louie Louie should be supported with big bats. But that could mean almost anyone in the organization.

White Knight said...

Gray only pitched once. CC and Tanaka once also. Monty is the only rotation guy who has pitched multiple times. These guys all must be hiding and working undercover.

Steve, just more garbage for the frauds to play with. It's real but it doesn't create wins or winning pitchers.

Here we go. Looks like Boone brought the big guns in honor of Jeter. Stanton likely stayed in Tampa shagging fly balls in left field.

NJYANKEE said...

I guarantee you the only reason the big names made the trip to Miami was because of Jeter. You honor a Yankee, and Jeter being the greatest baseball player for 20 years from the mid 90's to retirement, and who will be a first ballot HOFer. Nice gesture by Boone and the Yankee organization.

Teena/Bronx said...

Jeter is going to make the Marlins into a very good team within a very short time. He cleaned house and I bet he is installing a WIN METHOD philosophy, but he doesn't have WIN METHOD.

Yanks23245 said...

Torres and Andujar will bloom and grow a little more in AAA, Torres likely needs the time there more than Andujar. They will still be powerful forces on the Yankees soon. It also gives the Yankees some trading blocks if the need arises.

When the opposing teams throw right handers at us to try to combat Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez, Walkers left handed bat should fair well at the Stadium.

Dakarai Folami, the most important thing to know about baseball is wins and winning. All the teams in both leagues play a 162 game season and the teams who win their division go to the playoffs. Also two more teams in each league with the most wins also go to the playoffs.

Erica Johnston said...

You can't be the best unless you win says it all. Nothing else determines who is best, only wins determine who is best.

yankeeclipper said...

Dakarai Folami....There is nothing wrong with using statistics. Traditional stats like runs, hits, errors, batting average, etc are a part of baseball. Stats tell you how much and how many each player achieved or didn't achieve. The newer man made stats (sabermetrics) are pretty much garbage and should not be used unless you want to be a fool and fooled. The best players help lead their team to the playoffs the most often. So, to get to the playoffs you have to win. Wins and winning always tell who is best.

Here is more stat fraud garbage as they try to rate each pitchers start on a point basis.
Start with 50 points.

1.Add one point for each one-third of an inning pitched.
2.Add two points for every complete inning from the fifth on.
3.Subtract two points for each hit allowed.
4.Subtract two points for each run allowed.
5.Subtract two points for each earned run allowed.
6.Subtract one point for each walk.
7.Add one point for each strikeout.

Lets try out this formula using the seven factors.... We start with 50 points. 1.Our pitcher pitches a complete nine inning game 50 + 27 = 77. 2.He complete 5 innings from the 5th thru 9th innings 77 + 10 = 87. 3.He allows 5 hits 87 - 10 = 77. 4.He allows 5 runs 77 - 10 = 67. 5.He allows 5 earned runs 67 - 10 = 57. 6.He doesn't walk anyone 57 + 0 = 57.
7.He strikes out 15 batters 57 + 15 = 72. According to the point earned chart our pitcher should win 74% of his starts if he earns the 72 points he earned.
Conclusion..a pitcher can have a 5.00 ERA and be a .740 win percent pitcher. That is false and thus make the entire premise false, thus illustrating how meaningless and useless another fake stat is.

Phil Jenkins said...

Steve....Try posting that on the garbage baseball forums and you get run out on a rail. Truth kills the stat frauds.

yankeeclipper said...

When someone creates a formula, a theory, or a method, you have to test it every way possible to see if the conclusion you get is infallible. If whatever you test/use gives a false result and any point it is useless/meaningless. The WIN METHOD has never failed because it ALWAYS tells who is best, be it for a game, a series, a week, a month, a or a full season. That is FACT. The fake, phony, stat frauds hate facts.

Steve, I used the same formula with my pitcher allowing just 3 runs over a 9 inning complete game. Changed the hits, walks and K's. Came up with a rating of 49 meaning his chance of winning was 25%. Ironclad proof the formula is meaningless.

It was only a meaningless spring training game last night. But so much happened that shows that baseball games are won or lost by how everyone on the team contributes. Yankees lost because they failed too many times to score runs when they had the chances and because one pitcher in one inning of five pitchers failed miserably while the four others were brilliant over their eight innings.

NJYANKEE..>>..>> Stats are individual events for each player during their time in each game. Stats never can tell you the importance of each individual event. However wins and winning tell you who performed the best and or most often to win the game.

Gordon Gecko said...

Wins don't fall into the stat fraud narrative. Stat frauds want to tell you the losing players are the best and eht winning players are not. That is the goal of their fake made up formulas.

Teena/Bronx said...

afraud, the most foul and corrupt player in Yankee history has been named special advisor to Brian Cashman. The cancer has not been eliminated. This news is disgusting.

Tony Manchu said...

Wade has earned it.

Sharon/NC said...

The worst for the Orioles is Cobb over the past 3 seasons is 23-23, a .500 pitcher. No question, better them than us.

Steven said...

What a truly senseless way to judge how a pitcher will perform in the future. Especially with the fact that as we know, a win is a team effort.

muchomachoman said...

9-4 win tonight with the big guns in for most of the game.

Saul Irving said...

Judge had a big game. Scored 4 runs and had 4 RBIs and 2 HRs.

Hector Lopez said...

Bird is still not in gear. Would like to see him start to roll.

Xavier Young said...

Monty starts tomorrow. 1:00 PM on TV.

Sharon/NC said...

Steven, the only senseless thing here is 90% of your posts which define ignorance. Fact, pitchers earn wins and losses every game since the history of baseball.

Deb F said...

Only 90%?

Yankeeforever said...

People, Steven is a stat fraud, pay him no mind. He just comes here to rile things up. He's good for laughs, that's about it.

Ellsbury back in lineup. Boone does let everyone show what they got.

Quay Ho said...

Monty may get one more spring training start after today, but the other four should all get just one more.

Stan the Man said...

Montgomery goes six complete innings allowing just one run today.

will-i-am said...

Final 2-1 win as German goes final 3 innings, 0 runs, 0 hits.

Jerry Curcio said...

Tanaka listed for tomorrow versus the sux at 1:00PM televised on espn. The big guys should all be in the lineup.

Warren Hammond said...

The main thing is getting prepared for the start of the season next week. The worst self caused injuries to Ellsbury and Frazier are inconsequential. It looks as if all starters will be able to go a minimum of five innings and up to seven dependent on pitch counts. The big arms in the pen are getting stronger and each will only be needed for an inning and at most two are looking good. The lineup just needs to control the strike zone, hit the ball where it is pitched and produce when it counts. Then the team will roll to the playoffs.

Eddie OConnor said...

I see Steven posted another dumb opinion regarding wins. I would like him to explain the fact that since baseball began a pitcher has been credited with a win or a loss in every game his team has played. That's over one hundred plus years, every game, every team, forever. But to him, it means nothing. That is a stat fraud for you. Deny the reality of winning and espouse
the convoluted man made meaningless stats.

bigbadwolf said...

Warren, do you remember the days of the old stat fraud stat that gave the game winning rbi to the batter who put his team in front and then never tied or lost the lead for the rest of the game. A guy could ground out in the first inning with men on first and third and one out and get an rbi and then his team go on to win 12-11 never being tied of losing the lead.

Steve said...

bigbadwolf, the new formulas are much more complicated and can fool many young and sadly older baseball fans unlike the old game winning rbi stat. Nonetheless they are all garbage.

Hobbs said...

Even the newest fads are BS. Spin rate and exit velocity are the thing now among analyticists. Neither defines if a player can help his team win games. That is what is missing in their analysis. Just because a pitcher can spin the ball at a faster rate than another pitcher, doesn't mean he is a better pitcher.

Friday 3/23 1:05pm
Masahiro Tanaka (R)
vs. Red Sox - Brian Johnson (L)
1. Aaron Judge (R) RF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Greg Bird (L) 1B
4. Gary Sanchez (R) C
5. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
6. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
7. Brandon Drury (R) 3B
8. Neil Walker (S) 2B
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF
Boone said he may bat Judge first. In my opinion, all the chiefs are on top and all the indians are on the bottom. But no one ever knows how a game plays out. Everyone needs to contribute to help their team win.

Linda Rice said...

There is no question that the top of the order will get more at bats over the season than the bottom.

Victor Grandozi said...

During a game you never know who will come to bat when it matters most. In essence it may make no difference what the lineup is. Tradition has always had certain players with certain capabilities bat in certain spots in the lineup.

Dakarai Folami said...

We start the real season in six days. Lets go Yankees.

Carl Hooks said...

Tanaka goes 5 2/3 innings @ 70 pitches and allow just one run on a solo HR. Solid outing.

Tommy Lee said...

Yankees go down to sux 5-0 as bullpen, Shreve, Betances, Lail give up 4 runs in last 3 innings.

Benny Pake said...

Louie Louie to make final spring start tomorrow before opening day in Toronto next week.

Yat Bun Sing said...

Hello Yankee fans. Lets go Yankees.

I watched the game today on espn and their coverage disgusts me. They constantly talk about garbage, they hold interviews that are garbage. They do not talk about the game. While talking the game is on split screen so you are forced not only to hear their voices but must also see their ugly faces. May espn rot in hell.

Mike Smith said...

espn is the worst but it is just not them..If you subscribe to MLMTV you can get all games via each teams telecast. It is far superior to network coverage.
