WIN METHOD --- END OF 2017 --- BUILD FOR 2018 --- BLOOM AND GROW

The YANKEES have reached the end of their fantastic 2017 season.  And a great season it was, accomplishing more than any pundits and most fans expected.  But not here at the WIN METHOD, where it was stated the YANKEES would make the playoffs and beyond, and where likely every WIN METHOD fan believed would happen.  The YANKEES not only reached the playoffs, but they won the wild card game against the Minnesota Twins to advance to the American League Division Series (ALDS).  In the ALDS the YANKEES had the Cleveland Indians waiting for them to play a best of five game series.  The Indians won 102 games during the season and were looking to go back to the World Series where they lost in seven games last season. The Indians won the first two games and the YANKEES had their backs to the wall.  You WIN METHOD fans, the smartest most intelligent baseball fans never gave up, you rooted your team on, never gave up, and the YANKEES themselves never game up as they went on to defeat the Indians in the next three games.  An amazing comeback for the YANKEES.  By winning the ALDS the YANKEES moved on to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) where they had the Houston Astros waiting for them.  Houston won 101 games over the season and are a young developing great team.  The ALCS is a best of seven game series and the winner goes to the World Series and the losing team ends their season.  The Astros won the first two games of the series and the YANKEES again had their backs to the wall.  The YANKEES never gave up and neither did you WIN METHOD fans.  The YANKEES came back to win the next three games of the series.  The YANKEES just needed to win one of the next two games in Houston to go to the World Series.  The Astros had other thoughts in mend and they also never gave up and the Astros came back to win the two games in Houston and move on to the World Series.  The YANKEE season was over.  But the blooming and growing was just beginning.  The 2017 YANKEES achieved more than the baseball world expected.  The WIN METHOD fans were not surprised, WIN METHOD fans being the most intelligent and knowledgeable in baseball were well aware of what their YANKEE team could achieve as the youngsters started to bloom and grow.
Congratulations to the YANKEE players, coaches, management, front office, and ownership for allowing the YANKEE team to bloom and grow.

The off season has arrived for the YANKEES.  Time to kick back, rest, relax, and do the things you want to do and the things that you don't have time to do during the season.  Enjoy guys, you made you proud and your run is just beginning.  During the off season the YANKEE front office will have many decisions to make regarding player personnel.  No question the roster for 2018 will change, some new players will come and some will go.  The YANKEES are in a position of great power having the best minor league system in baseball and many many players blooming and growing trying to make the 2018 roster and challenge veteran players.  The front office has work to do, hard decisions to make, and make them they will.

On a side note, you the WIN METHOD fans, fans from all over the world have made it possible for the WIN METHOD  blog, the greatest Yankee and baseball blog/forum in the world to surpass a quarter of a billion views.  Thank you fans for your devotion and passion, for being smartest baseball fans that exist, and for standing up against stat frauds  and their misguided fools view of baseball.  This blog will continue without advertisements and clutter that fills every other site you may visit.  I know, you visit them for laughs.

Have fun everyone in the off season.  I will go out and find a few more WIN METHOD players to bloom and grow down the road.  Spring training 2018 is going to be a lot of fun as the kids make their push for the majors, the brightest lights and the biggest stage in baseball, the New York YANKEES.  Yes they can, and they will.  Lets go Yankees.

Talking about stat frauds is fun. They make good fodder for the off season.

Tommy Lee said...

I despise stat frauds who say their best player doesn't win because of the players on his team, but ne is the best.

KevMac said...

Tommy Lee, You are correct. One player does not win or lose. All players through their combined efforts determine wins and losses for a team. Any player can play out his option and go to any other team who will have him if he feels he is so good and can win with another team.

yankeeclipper said...

Reading all these fine posts about stat frauds it got me to thinking about all the posters here who have been banned from forums for stating their opinions. Some posters from multiple forums. They all were banned by moderators at these forums. Moderators are stat frauds who have attained the highest level and degree of ignorance and stupidity.

Guy Padikian said...

What a great post yankeeclipper. Humor and truth.

Gil McKenzie said...

Cory......So if a team had five starters all 9-13 and each had a 2.0 WAR. The team starters would be 45-65 with a 10.0 WAR. That sounds like the stat fraud world.

Nick Polito said...

There is such a world of difference between stat frauds and WIN METHOD followers. stat frauds believe in made up formulas, winning is not as important as convoluted stats, and it is not important to win to be the best. WIN METHOD fans believe in real long standing statistics, winning is why the games are played and is the most important thing.

Jack Gordon said...

It appears to me that all the posters here have very succinctly shown how bad stat fraud stats are (not the standard factual stats) but man made value stats that are convoluted and proven them false and thus useless in real life.

Sharon/NC said...

After reading all this I just hope out new manager is not a stat fraud.

yankeedoodledandy said...

I would think that when a manager needs to make a decision for a possible pinch hitter in a game, stats largely go out the window, it would more likely boil down to a lefty/righty decision, who may be hot, and if you need a long ball or a single.
Likely the same with a lineup to start a game. Who have your basic starters. The manager knows who may have a slight ailment or who may need a hay off. Who is on a hot streak, who is in a slump.

Nathan Riley said...

Someone posted earlier and I agree, Cashman has made a major blunder by letting Girardi go. T

I wonder if Cashman thinks he can do better. I am not a fan of Cashmans decision to let Girardi go.

So Cashman is looking for someone as good as Girardi. Good luck Brian.

This entire manager fiasco does not look good.

What is so complicated about all this. You have an organization manager with experience and knows many of the players at little cost in Al Predique. Just common sense.

Judge deserved it. A fine season helping his team to the playoffs and missing getting to the World Series by one game.

Warren Hammond said...

I believe it is very possible the Yankees know who they are going to name as manager. Every team that was in need of a new manager has already signed their man. The Yankees knowing they have their man and their man was not on the radar of any of the other teams can just play their due diligence game. Lets see who they name.

Pete H said...

Warren....Could that mean it will be someone in the organization like Al Predique????

Warren Hammond said...

Pete H, I like Predique. I hope it is him.

Tom Loughlin said...

The Yankee management knows more than any of us do. We have to trust they are doing the best to help the team win. Sometimes it doesn't always seem that way, but we just have to let them do their job. We will find out one way or the other if things turn out right.

bigbadwolf said...

The decision of the front office and if it was good or not can only be defined by how the team performs on the field in 2018. The tools are in place and Girardi used them to get to one game from the WS before being eliminated after the 175th game.

muchomachoman said...

Lets get back to stat frauds and their fantasy world games and the fantasy world they live in.

NJYANKEE said...

How about this. You can be at a MLB game, any teams, any day. And for example you can actually see a fielder make a great play that you think is unbelievable, but the stat frauds with their made up zone ratings and formulas will try to convince you the play you just witnessed wasn't great, but just average.

From the way I understand the Ohtani scenario is, as of now any team that puts up 20 Mil posting fee earns the right to negotiate with him. I think there is a 21 day window for him to sign. I think he will sign with whomever he wishes. If he is WIN METHOD, he signs with the Yankees.

Getting Ohtani for the Yankees is a good thing. If he is a bust, which I doubt, he doesn't cost a fortune. If he is adequate and makes the rotation as a starter that is good. If he is adequate as a hitter that is good. If he excels at pitching and or hitting that is a goldmine. He can make the team better and make other assets expendable to help fill a need we may need in the future.

Ohtani is giving me the impression that he thinks he is special and should be catered to.

Carl Hooks said...

We will find out one way or another. We will find out if he helps whatever team he signs with.

Wilsonsway said...

Jill Byrnes....Ohtani is asking all teams interested and willing to pay for his services to fill out a detailed questionnaire on why he should sign with them. I thought the employer was supposed to ask the questions on why they should hire an employee.

Tony Gigante said...

The issue that I look at is Ohtani is still a relatively unknown quantity. A team still has to pay 20 million to the Japanese team. Yes, that can be very little if Ohtani is what many think he may turn out to be. But, but, if, and but.

Stanley Chin said...

If Ohtani can really hit and produce when it counts, his being a left handed bat would play well for the Yankees. Everything with him is always a big if.

For the dollars needed to get Ohtani which in essence the same for every team, you might as well sign him. If he is nothing, it is no great loss, if he is something, you got a bargain.

coryankee said...

I wonder just how much WIN METHOD Ohtani may be. He seems more concerned with himself than being a good team player and wanting to help a team be the best they can be.

Zack Norris said...

coryankee, Good points. Ohtani will have much to prove.

NJYANKEE said...

Ohtani had very few innings in 2017. I think he would be hard pressed to get to 150 in 2018.

I tend to agree Ursala. We have so many youngsters ready to bloom and grow there may be no reason to grovel for Ohtani.

Yankeeforever said...

Ursala/Lou.....Getting Ohtani is an investment that does not cost a fortune. If he produces under competition that is a plus for the team. If he doesn't, chuck him as you would do with any other player. The only way Ohtani blocks another player is by being better than him and that happens all the time.

Yankeeforever..Competition is good and raises everyone's level. It also eliminates those who can't stand the heat.

That comment leads me to believe that you don’t understand sabremetrics at all. Did you find it strange that one of cashmans criteria for a new manager was to embrace advanced statistics (I.e. sabremetrics). Are you saying cashman and now Boone cannot think or plan?

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Aaron Boone comes from a family of MLB players. He knows baseball and knows what it takes to win. And it isn't analytical stats.

coryankee said...

Steven, I think yankeeclipper hit the nail on the head. A great manager manages each game guided by the flow of each game, how players are performing and who you think will get the job done when it needs to be done. I am sure some of the big time losing managers may manage by the numbers, but if you want something great you paint with your mind and feel and not by the numbers. There are no great paintings in museums that were painted by the numbers, they are all painted from the heart. Don't believe everything you hear from Cashman, he likes to make you think one way while he is doing something else. You stat frauds are so gullible and foolish.

Warren Hammond said...

What stat frauds don't want to accept is this fact. It has been used by computer programmers for ever, "garbage in garbage out". Most of sabermetric formulas are garbage, therefore when you use them you get garbage.

Steven said...

Cor
That was rather long winded, irrelevant analogy. You even found a way to act pompousn at the end.

Numerous news outlets have reported that cashman was seeking a manager well versed in modern analytics, in addition to be able to communicate well with the players. Additionally if you’ve ever listened to him during his broadcasting career, you’d know that he’s well versed and finds use in them as well.

Keep in mind I’m not advocating their use here, but what leads you to believe cashman and Boone do not use them significantly despite the evidence showing they do? I don’t see any competitive advantage to them lying about it.

coryankee said...

Steven, I do not think my response to you was either long winded nor irrelevant but more factual than you would like.
You cite numerous outlets and what they have reported. Lets go back to the start of last season, how many outlets, talking heads, etc predicted the Yankees would be in a rebuilding year, had no chance of making the playoffs, and so on? See if you can find any blog, baseball forum, pundit, etc who said the Yankees would reach the playoffs and beyond last season. There is one, the WIN METHOD blog. WIN METHOD and the posters here were right because we don't use meaningless crap analytical sabermetrics. Many here know analytics well, and realize that modern analytics are useless garbage with man made values creating formulas that can be adjusted to meet the desired outcome of the fools who create them. I do know that WIN METHOD doesn't use them, and WIN METHOD has been the pipeline of the Yankees when he dealt with George Steinbrenner and not with Hal Steinbrenner. The WIN METHOD pipeline since its inception has led to more wins, more pennants, and more World Series than any other team in baseball. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the smart people that use sabermetrics use them in reverse by finding the great WIN METHOD player who is put down by sabermetrics yet will help his team win games and thus be an asset who costs far less salary. The competitive edge is playing the the people who live by sabermetrics for fools.
WIN METHOD and the fans here predicted the Yankee success for the 2017 season, no one else I know did. There may be someone else out there, maybe.

Yankeeforever said...

Steven, I am not saying Cashman and Boone do not know how to plan. You need to plan a budget, when running your life, your business, etc. To help a team win and be successful consistently you use the WIN METHOD.

Steven said...

I’m sorry Cor but you’re not answering my question...a common dodge strategy of many of the posters here.

Why do you think Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone do not heavily use advanced statistics despite all evidence pointing otherwise? Isn’t the employment of defensive shifts, of which the Yankees employ heavily, an indicator that they are using some advanced statistics? If they are using them, how then are they useless?

I’m not looking for a book, but rather a concise and direct answer to my specific question. Thank you.

Gil McKenzie said...

Steven, I for one will be patiently awaiting you being able to find people other than the fans here that said the Yankees would reach the playoffs and beyond last season. You post opinions that are culled from what people say but not what people do. The best players help their team to wins, the playoffs and pennants, no matter what their individual stats may be. As a fact, some of the highest individual stat players hurt their teams and many don't even get their teams to the playoffs.

Yankeefan4life said...

Gil,
Not for nothing but we post every year that we believe the Yankees will reach the playoffs, which is why we’re so positive, but we have been wrong the majority of the past five years. We shouldn’t hang our hat on the Yankees success of last season without acknowledging that we’ve been wrong quite often recently.

Tony Manchu said...

Steven, you are the one who evades questions. Find us reporters, forums, blogs, etc who said the Yankees would have as good a season last season other than this one.
I think you are confused when you say people use sabermetrics. It is how they are used that are important. The smart people use sabermetrics to take advantage of other by obtaining WIN METHOD type players for less cost.

Deb F said...

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeee's back.

Steven said...

Tony
I’m not evading that question. I think most people didn’t expect the Yankees to make the playoffs and do as well as they did last year. I thought there would be more growing pains with the younger players and was surprised (and excited) to see how well they did so quickly. I think this is how most felt.

Now that I’ve answered your question, will you answer mine.

P.S - deb, why are you always the worst. All you do I make disparingy remarks and never contribute anything meaningful to a conversation.

Jill Byrnes said...

Yankeefan4life, You err. This blog has not posted the Yankees will reach the playoffs every season. Yes, most of the time, and most of the time they do. However as a fact, WIN METHOD did not say the Yankees would make the playoffs in 2015 and 2016.

Ted Williams always said about stats, every time I go to bat in every game I step into the batting box with a .000 average. I either leave batting 1.000 or .000.

Carl Hooks said...

Steven, you mentioned defensive shifts and their use, even by the Yankees. If managers and sabermetrics are so brilliant why doesn't the manager on offense just have his guys bunt or ground the ball the opposite way? That would be the ultimate use of sabremetrics.

Hobbs said...

Carl Hooks...because analytical stats are garbage. The only reason to try to go the opposite way is to put men on base and that is stupid according to the analytics.

Yanks23245 said...

I get the impression Steven believes the people who said the Yankees would not make the playoffs last season are knowledgeable the people who said the Yankees would make the playoffs and beyond last season are not. My Lord. Analytics must be with great skepticism.

RLA said...

Facts kill. Lets take Stevens view as fact. All teams use modern analytical sabremetrics. 2/3 of those teams fail to make the playoffs. Not good.

Only one team uses the WIN METHOD, and since using the WIN METHOD, that team has had the best win/loss record in baseball, has been in the playoffs the most, has won the most pennants and has won the most World Series.

That would make the WIN METHOD heads and shoulders over modern analytical sabremetrics. FACT.

Steven said...

Um ok, I literally asked one question (still unanswered), you guys are really going off the rails though. My view was simply that Cashman and Boone embrace modern statistics. No one has provided support to the contrary...

Wilsonsway said...

Steven, I don't think anyone with any real intelligence and baseball acumen embraces 'modern statistics'. I think they use them, but not in the way you seem to think they do.

Domenic said...

Remember the old public service announcement, "just say no to drugs". "Just say no to drugs", why, because they can kill you. The same can be said for modern analytics with fake formulas, "just say no to modern analytics". Why, because they make you stupid. Look at Steven.

Just in general, there nothing wrong with posters expressing opinions and views. However, posting something you think is fact just because that is what you want to believe subjects you to being called out by other posters.

For example, when stat frauds come here they like to make claims and pass them out as factual.
That is why they get called stat frauds. Another example, if you claim a player has hit the most home runs in 2017 and he has, that is a fact. When you claim the player is the best and he doesn't get his team into the playoffs, that is you view and not a fact.

Thanks for letting us know when we’re allowed to be disparaging. Noted.

I believe what I was saying was that based on all available data it seems as though high ranking members of the organization seem to embrace the advance statistics rather than dispel them as useless. I was seeking evidence in contrast as to what I’ve seen.

Now I’ll leave you to throwing around insults and not providing any substantial evidence or information to have an adult conversation about a subject. Have fun!

It looks like Steven took johnsondcs' comment personally. Only stat frauds embrace advanced metrics. Others use them to their advantage to obtain the better talent for lower cost because advanced metrics give flawed results. False results mean useless for real value. WAR is utter garbage and in no way gives any players plus or minus value to a team.

When any posters make a false claim, they should be called on it. Opinions are a different story. Everyone can state their opinion and then accept, agreement, disagreement, etc.

I think stat frauds hate the WIN METHOD because the WIN METHOD always determines the best players and the best teams. And does it without fake formulas and made up stats.

Teena/Bronx said...

I think Aaron Boone growing up in a baseball family and particularly from grandpa Ray knows about what it takes to win and knows that player performance when it counts will determine who wins most often. Just needs to be WIN METHOD.

Dave Mathews said...

Teena/Bronx, I like your post and it makes very good sense. Lets go Yankees.

Eddie OConnor said...

I wonder if Cashman used analytical sabremetrics when he signed Chris Carter last year and Girardi had to play him for half the season. That Cashman boondoggle probably cost the Yankees a few losses.

Deb F said...

Eddie OConnor, The stat fraud Steven must have the know. He claims Cashman loves analytical stats, so that must be the answer to the Carter failure for half the season.

White Knight said...

OK, we got our manager. Now do we get Othani or do we even care?

I feel like you have a problem with me missy. Feel free to speak to me directly instead of gossiping.

Deb F said...

Steven, no problem with you, just stat frauds in general. So I'll ask you, did Cashman rely on analytical stats to sign Chris Carter because you know darn well WIN METHOD would not have recommended it?

jimbo said...

A modern stats analytical question for everyone. I'll pose three scenarios, with everything else being equal (inning, score, etc,) which one is best for his team?

1. Player hits 3 run home run. Exit velocity 115 MPH. Landing distance 465 feet.
2. Player hits 3 run home run. Exit velocity 102 MPH. Landing distance 395 feet.
3. Player hits 3 run home run. Exit velocity 92 MPH. Landing distance 330 feet.
4. All of 1,2,3 are equal.

Hobbs said...

I'll go with 4, but I'm a big WIN METHOD supporter.

Tommy Lee said...

Now that is a stat fraud question if I ever heard one.
1, no I'll go with 4. roflol.

Guy Padikian said...

The answer is obvious. It has to be 4, and that emphasizes the fact that modern analytical stats are meaningless. They may be fun for fans and give something to talk about, but to outcomes of games they are meaningless.

AAA said...

Guy Padikian, obvious to WIN METHOD fans, not so much to stat frauds.

Going back to Ohtani, if only a small bit of the demands attributed to him and his representatives are true, I want no part of this prima donna. Let him find a babysitter to coddle him and acquiesce to his every need.
The Yankee clubhouse doesn't need all the distraction and circus like atmosphere from all the hype, that can easily turn out to be detrimental. We have some very good bloom and grow WIN METHOD players now and coming.

Donald Blazina said...

Jimmy....So true we do not need a disruption by catering to any player. That would be a bad example for the youngsters. But we do not know Othani and only get hearsay.
I go with choice 4.

Linda Pardo said...

I second Jeb Houghs post.

YankeeMike said...

IF the Yankees get Othani and he becomes an issue it would then be incumbent that Hal, Cashman, and Boone meet with him and lay down the law. They could always trade him to the Marlins.

muchomachoman said...

YankeeMike ... That would be golden. Trading him for 2 or 3 guys and also getting the other team to pay you the 20 million plus dollars it cost to obtain him. Throw in getting the other teams first round draft pick for a couple of years.

White Knight said...

Guys, you do think outside the box. Like it.

I can’t really speak for Cashman, but I think he was just looking for veteran depth since Bird was coming off the shoulder injury.

No one was a huge fan of the signing at the time. How are you certain that winmethod wouldn’t have recommended it? Ultimately it didn’t work out but winmethods selection process isn’t going to be 100% perfect.

Deb F said...

Steven... Cashman didn't need to look for veteran help. He had players in the system that could have done better than Carter even if they stank. My point was more towards how anyone using advanced metrics could come up with Chris Carter. I don't know if WIN METHOD would have liked Carter, but I doubt it. We usually get a pretty good idea here if WIN METHOD likes someone or not.
How did you vote to jimbos question?
