WIN METHOD / ANDY PETTITTE
Recently WIN METHOD fans were told Andy Pettitte would pitch this year for the YANKEES. At the time of that post Andy had confirmed he would pitch this year. Andy stated such in his retirement press conference today. Earlier this week Andy changed his mind because he felt the WIN METHOD desire was no longer in the pit of his stomach. That statement from Andy, that the overwhelming desire to go through the grind and have that desire in the pit of his stomach defines the WIN METHOD. That desire is the WIN METHOD. You aren't the best unless you are WIN METHOD. That is what made Pettitte the winningest pitcher in baseball over the span of his career, the winningest pitcher in the history of post season competition, and the starting pitcher with the most World Series rings over his career. Andys' departure leaves a huge void in the YANKEE rotation, but that void will be filled by an up and coming future star from the YANKEE farm system. We will overcome. Andy will be missed. We congratulate Andy and his family, and wish him all the luck in the world in any future endeavors.

The WIN METHOD defines the best because they help their team WIN. I can see now more than ever how great the WIN METHOD is and how important it is in defining the best players. Andy Pettitte exemplified that today in his retirement interview. Stat frauds just can't realize just how important desire, character, and fortitude is making the best of the best. Stats can only show personal ability, stats can't determine the best. Only WINS can do that.
Miss you already Andy.
Anyone can change their mind at any time. Andy made a tough decision a lot of fans can not comprehend. It has to be tough to give up something you love and excel in. That is the WIN METHOD intangible. Love ya.
Isn't that the difference between WIN METHOD players and those who are not. What's inside, the desire to be the best coupled with the talent to do your best.
Does anyone think there is a chance Andy will change his mind again, and pitch this year?
No. Andy seemed pretty emphatic about not pitching this year. He did seem to leave 2012 opem. I can't see why he would pitch in 2012 after missing this year.
Only a WIN METHOD champion would retire leaving 12 million on the table. Bye Andy.
I don't think Andy will pitch again Phil.
With Andy gone, the season becomes very interesting and a bigger challenge.
AJ really needs to come up big now.
It had to be tough for Andy. But as he says, if his heart is not in it, no reason to fake it just for the money. That's the character we talk about. Just like the others of the core four, Jeter, Rivera, and Posada. All character, heart, and WINS.
Sorry to see Andy go.
Hopefully we have another WIN METHOD Andy grade pitcher on hand.
I bet there are several pitchers chomping on the bit to start spring training and who are looking for a starting spot in the rotation for the Yankees.
Can we really make the playoffs without Pettitte?
I look at Pettitte's retirement as an opportunity. An opportunity for the Yankees to give one of the youngsters a shot and see what they can do over a year
Yes we can make the playoffs without Pettitte. We are a WIN METHOD team.
The glass is half full is the right outlook. RLA and bigbadwolf are being positive. When you are not positive you lose.
That is why I like posting here. Positive Yankee fans 99% of the time. And the WIN METHOD philosophy of winning determining the best.
Not only can we make the playoffs without Pettitte, but we will.
I think we can make the playoffs as
long as Jeter stays healthy and leads the way.
It's a long season and anything can happen, but I see us making the playoffs.
Unless our number 4 or 5 starter does more than what we expect, it may be tough to reach the playoffs, but then again we could easily make the playoffs.
Bye Andy
We can still win it all.
Thank heavens football ends today. Dull and boring. Baseball in a week.
One week and the battery reports. Lets go Yankees.
I can't wait for the young pitchers to battle for a roster spot. We pretty much know what the old backups can do. The upside to the new guys is the moon.
Maybe some of the older guys can teach the new kids some tricks.
Maybe the young gus can teach the old guys some new tricks, Qua.
Many fans are whining about Nova only goin just about 5 innings last year. He is a big kid and still developing. i easily see him getting into the 7th this year.
We have some very solid system in the minors thanks to WIN METHOD. The next couple of years will be fun.
Quoting Steve..he stated "Stat frauds just can't realize just how important desire, character, and fortitude is making the best of the best. Stats can only show personal ability, stats can't determine the best. Only WINS can do that."
I agree completely. Champion teams have p;ayers with individual ability, but unless that ability transcends through the team, the team can not be champions.
First of the core four to leave. Good luck Andy.
Good competition makes for a higher quality outcome.
Yes, I think we can make the playoffs. Also I feel we will do a lot better than most analysts give us credit for.
28 in 11.
No matter what, whoever earns the rotation spots this spring will be on their game.
I would rather see a youngster or two make the team rather than any of the aged veterans, unless the veterans show they can excel.
This spring training makes for a fun, exciting, and interesting year for the Yankees.
It's so nice to see all the young talent coming along that WIN METHOD has set the Yankees up with...particularly the pitchers.
Bloom and grow. Bloom and grow. 28 in 11.
Baseball is getting so close, I can fell it in my bones.
A couple more days until the action starts. The Yankee spring training may provide as much excitement as the regular season.
Nova will be the one along with Noesi.
As long as they can WIN, it makes no difference who earns the spots in the rotation.
I agree Sharon. Whoever pitches the best and earns a spot, they will deserve it. It makes no difference who it is.
We may be surprised by who earns a spot. You can't always tell a WIN METHOD player by their individual stats.
One more day folks and the sports world will be alive again. Yankee baseball rules.
I also would like to see Noesi and Nova make it. Warren won't be far behind and could be heard from latter in the season.
Isn't Warren WIN METHODs pick he told us about two years ago?
Yes. You can go back and reread the blog about Warren. Could be a very nice surprise the stat frauds know nothing about.
Today is here. All haile today. Baseball is back. baseball rules.
Warren has been invited to the Yankee spring session this year. After only one full minor league season that is a good sign.

Bookmark this everyone.
Two priorities for Yankee pitching coach. One, changeup for Hughes. Two, control of AJ emotions.
AJ and Hughes will be in the rotation, unless one of them gets hurt. The battle will be for the other pitchers looking for spots 4 and 5.
The pitchers fighting for spots on the big team better come to camp ready to pitch. No BS about working into shape. Shape up or ship out.
Right Steve. Earn your spot, don't just get handed it because of experience or reputation.
Maybe Girardi will think the same way. Earn your way onto the team.
Pettitte is gone, but I would feel more comfrtable if hes was pitching. Oh well.
The Yankees are the best.
Yes Andys gone, but look at it as an opportunity for the young studs. We have many WIN METHOD pitchers on the horizon.
I hope so guys. If no one steps up we may be in for a long tough season. But then again, we always have Jeter.
AJ will win at least 15 games this season.
Maybe more Bill. Big year is so do.
Word is AJ looks great and is committed to a great season.
Mo isn't into camp until tomorrow. His children were sick. Joba reports bigger and stronger.
Another week and everyone will be in camp. Then spring games right after that.
The spring games will be active for the pitchers trying to make the rotation. Should be fun. I'be down there for a week in March.
What pitcher will throw the first pitch for a Yankee this spring?
I would say one of the contenders for a rotation slot.
Nova?
Rivera is in camp. All systems on go.
Just over a week to the first spring game. 28 in 11.
I was surprised to see Andruw Jones is only 32 years old. He could be a very nice backup, fill in, pinch hitter, part time player.
the yankees won't be in the playoffs .
The reports are Joba added muscle and is throwing very hard.
Hopefully no one over extends them self. Slow and easy, bloom and grow 28 in 11.
28 in 11. That's the goal.
Noesi willthrow the first pitch at spring training.
I see we had a negative gloom and doom poster stop by. He should stick to the baseball forums. They proliferate losers and losing.
Next Saturday is the first spring training game. I'll go with Garcia throwing the first pitch. 28 in 11.
Someone started the rumor of a Pujols for Teixeira trade. Teixeira being the consummate WIN METHOD player he is said "I am going nowhere, I am going to be buried in these pinstripes".
Pujols couldn't hack it in NY. I'd rather stick with Tex.
The defense alone lays Tex over Pujols by a vast amount.
Is Pujols even a WIN METHOD player? I doubt it. He only wants money, similar to Afraud.
Pujols and Arod are very similar. Fantastic individual stats but very little WS rings to show for it.
Individual stats are meaningless unless they translate directly to WINS. Enough WINS to be able to be called the best of the best.
Winning is good. That's why we play.
I'll take WIN METHODs selection to throw the first pitch, Warren. Please don't even think about Pujols on the Yankees.
I'll take a shot with Brackman. someone has to be first.
I'll take Colon. Ugh!
Via a process of elimination, my pick for the first pitch will be Mitre.
The grossly ignorant statfrauds on the baseball forums are all saying how great Pujols is and the Yankees should do whatever to trade Tex and xxx for him. One problem frauds, Pujols is not better than Tex in helping his team win.
Don't forget people, Jeter gets his 3000th hit. Probably sometime in June. Love ya, WIN METHOD.
I think Nova will throw the first pitch and that Nova and Garcia will be the 4 and 5 starers to open the season.
Supposedly the 4 and 5 spots are Nova and Garcias to lose. I look for Nova to throw the first pitch. Anything can happen. 28 in 11.
Please don't let Pujols ever wear Yankee pinstripes. Afraud is bad as it is.
Garcia is my choice for first pitch. I agree with the poster who said Pujols couldn't hack it in NY.
My choice Mitre.
I vote for Nova. I think the Yankees will try to give him every chance to earn the spot in the rotation since he is the most advanced by innings pitched of the young studs.
I think Nova also. If he can pitch into the th inning on a regular basis he may be a Godsend WIN METHOD Yankee.
First spring training game this Saturday against the Phillies. Pitcher for the Yankees, my guess, Garcia.
Nova for me. Go Ivan. Prove yourself with WINS. That is the only thing the matters except to stat frauds.
Whoever gets to throw the first pitch this spring may be a matter of who is furthest advanced in training. In any case, I'll go with Noesi.
How about Joba.
The tentative decision has been made by Joe Girardi...... The Yankees will start Bartolo Colon in their Grapefruit League opener on Saturday. He’ll go up against Cole Hamels and the Phillies in Tampa. The Yankees are going with Colon, who threw a bunch of innings in winter ball because he is “best prepared for the assignment.” Following him in the rotation will be Ivan Nova, CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia.
Kudos to Phil Jenkins who picked Colon to start, and to Cory who predicted exactly why who would throw the first pitch. Great job WIN METHOD fans.
After Colon it looks like all will get some action.
Good call Phil and Cory.
It is going to be great having baseball back. 28 in 11.
Nice job guys. Slow and easy tuneups. I hear a few MLB pitchers have hurt themselves already.
Adam Wainwright, the Cards 20 game winner is supposedly down with a severe elbow injury.
The loss of a 20 win man, even replaced by a 15 win man, costs the team 5 games. Devastating. Particularly when you use the only stat that truly means anything, WINS.
With everything going on in baseball, the Yankees still have the biggest asset in the game in Derek Jeter. Jeter, the best shortstop in baseball, with tremendous range and defensive prowess combined with being one of the most solid, dependable, clutch hitters in the game, make Jeter the best player over the past decade and a half. All this is true unless you wish to believe the stat frauds who define losing as making for a great player.
Just two day until the action starts. Lets shake up the AAL East. Then win 28 in 11.
Wainwrights injury just goes to show how a player can go down from one moment to the next. Not even in competition.
No downers reported at Yankee camp so far.
One more day until the first spring training game. The world is alive again, baseball is back. 28 in 11.
Nice post Sharon. I agree. Baseball is about winning and Jeter has won more than any player in baseball during his career.
I like that many talking heads don't give the Yankees much of a chance to win the AL east. Just gives the WIN METHOD players more of an incentive and more to play for.
I know it has been posted several times by many posters here on the WIN METHOD blog, but stat frauds and their stats will always be irrelevant as long as they argue that stats alone define players and winning means little to nothing. Winning means more than anything else.
You got it Frank. Winning is the single most important factor in determining the best players.
Today
First spring training game
One PM
On YES
Up early and getting my weekend chores done, then watching the game. Game doesn't mean a thing, but it is Yankee baseball.
Yes, baseball is back.
Which Yankee pitcher will have the best results today? Nova is my choice.
CC has to show off his lost weight.
What a glorious ceremony to open the season. I salute the Yankees and George Steinbrenner. Hale the Yankees. Hughes is my pick.
Perfect spring training game. Many pitchers used, almost all field position players used. Joba gets the nod for the best pitching performance. Sporting a new pitching motion Joba pitched a dominant 1,2,3 inning.
Joba looked great physically. Any weight he put on looks as if it went to upper body muscle. Big year could be ahead for him and Yankees.
A whole another slate of pitchers will throw for the Yankees today. The kid Noesi looked good yesterday. I am dying to see Adam Warren, WIN METHODs special pick throw.
We will probably get some better known pitchers today for the Yankees.
I hope Warren goes today. The game is on YES.
Interested in seeing the trimmed down CC.
Nova throws two sparkling dominant innings allowing four ground ball outs and recording two strike outs.
Mitre one one hit inning. Logan one one hit inning. Belances one very strong three strikeout one walk inning, hitting the radar gun at 97.
Warren looks good in his first outing against major leaguers with entire staff used today looking stellar. Great work WIN METHOD.
Warren goes one and a third innings giving up one run. Highlight of the day is Warren striking out Ryan Howard on a 3-2 count with a breaking ball freezing Howrd in his tracks. Sisco relieves Warren and goes one and two thirds innings of stellar work.
Carlyle throws a batting practice ninth inning to complete the game allowing two runs on two hits and all three outs are well hit rockets.
WOW! This Yankee team is deep. Many so many future stars on the horizon.
We still have CC,AJ, Hughes, etal to throw yet/
It's great having baseball back. The real season starts in late March this year. Go Yankees.
We should get some of the big guys today. If AJ steps what we will win it all.
Nova looks as if he will surely be the fourth starter. that leaves several guys shooting for the five spot.
I was not very impressed with Colon. Hopefully someone else will earn the fifth rotation spot.
Noesi may need some more time in the minors, also Warren and Phelps. the three veterans are Mitre, Garcia, and Colon. One of those three will probably start the season in the 5 hole. Betances and Banuelos will both be big time big leaguers and Brackman may be the odd man out.
28 in 11 is the goal.
CC two solid innings. Feliciano, Banuelos, and Prior each with one solid inning. Three sub minor leaguers get knocked around. Another solid outing for the Yankee big guys.
Very possibly the Yankee pitching staff this year will put a dagger in the heart of the Yankee haters, the naysayers, the talking heads, and the stat frauds.
Just keep building and get stronger for the season opener. 28 in 11.
We have had some very dominant performances from our young WIN METHOD pitchers so far. The future is very bright.
I'm an old timer, and I can't ever remember the Yankees having so many quality budding young superstar pitchers at one time. You may need a score sheet just to keep track of them.
There are rumors that the Twins are trying to dump Lirano on the Yankees for one or two of our stud youngsters. The stat frauds are leaking on themselves on the forums on who they would give up for him. It's simple frauds, NO ONE.
Hughes and Robertson super again today. Pirates get two runs off of the lower minor leaguers. Pitching for the bog team has been super.
I don't think the Yankees should trade anyone for Liriano. Nova in his first full year, this year, will be better than Liriano every which way but loose. Idiots would only trade better for worse.
So far the sure Yankee pitching roster players have not given up a run this spring. AJ gets his chance today. Somebody will have to give a run sometime, but so far so great.
For those who get the YES network, todays game is broadcast at 1pm.
Man, if AJ can get his house in order, he and the Yankees could have one astounding year. watch out bosuxers.
Go AJ. WIN. That is all that matters.
AJ first inning. Seven pitches, six strikes, two ground ball outs and one strikeout looking. I don't think he threw an inning that well all last year.
AJ second inning. Two bleeding heart bloop singles to open the inning. A ground ball double play Cano-Jeter-Tex with Jeter (the best defensive shortstop in baseball) turning a sparkler at second. Then a third out grounder to end the inning. AJ looks solid.
Mitre throws a solid third inning. Just a bunt base hit.
Joba throws a mediocre 4th inning. Two line drive singles but gets the inning ending DP for a scoreless frame.
Boone Logan gives up first run of spring by a roster pitcher in the 5th inning.
Noesi throws two scoreless innings. Another young stud who has been fantastic. So far in five games this spring only one run has been given up by a roster pitcher. Also no runs by any of our top young studs.
The boobs on the talk forums are still sniveling about giving up almost anything to get Loriano. It is hard for me to conceive so many people are so stupid and do not know baseball.
Just develop and ride the young arms. Trade for no one.
It looks as if the Yankee pitching staff may be the strongest point of the team as we play for 28 in 11.
How about this about our pitchers so far this spring. AJ, Joba, Hughes, Logan, Mitre, Robertson, CC, Feliciano, Colon, Noesi, Nova, Banuelos, Betances, Garcia. All are either roster pitchers and/or those who will get the 4 and 5 hole pitching spots, plus the top tier young guns. 14 pitchers, 13 have thrown this spring except for Garcia who goes today. Get this....total inning pitched 25....runs allowed 2.
Nice start by the pitchers. Will be interesting to see how everything shakes out. Good to know so many arms are getting ready to get on the big stage.
What an astounding job WIN METHOD has done finding these gems.
WIN METHOD is undoubtedly the greatest unknown in the baseball world.
It appears the 5th starter should be between Colon and Garcia. One will earn the spot this spring. I think temperarily however. I think one of the young guns will be moved up during the season.
Garcia 2 and Nova 3 shutout innings. Super.
Betances gives up a run in an inning and a third, but gets bailed out by WIN METHOD special Adam Warren who gets the third out with the bases loaded and then throws a shutout inning. Warren is good and flying under the radar.
After one appearance by Colon and Garcia, I lean to garcia.
Betances was pretty wild yesterday, walking in the only run given up on the day. Warren bailed out the possible big inning by Tampa by getting the third out with the bases loaded in a very clutch situation, even though it is only a spring training game.
Colon gets a big test tonight, he starts against the bosux. I will be interesting to see who follows him and how they fair.
I'm getting very pumped about the season and 28 in 11.
Night game today. Just to set the record straight...bosux fans and stat frauds suck.
Lets see how things go against the sux.
Colon fro 3 sold innings, followed by Banuelos for 2 solid innings of shutout bsll. And the pitching continues.
Prior goes one solid inning with 2 Ks. The runs were given up by Feliciano and Logan who are really just getting their work in. Both are lefty specialists pitching to right handed batter after right handed batter.
CC & Joba used for batting practice today.
Way overdo for a poorly thrown game. Make the corrections.
lets get back on track today
Keep everyone healthy and get ready for the real games.
Hughes surrenders three runs in three innings today. Everyone is starting to stretch their arm and build strength.
The Yankee bats came alive today with 21 hits.
The fifth rotation spot looks like it is still up for grabs. Nova will be the fourth.
After years and years of posting on oh so many baseball forums and blogs, there is no doubt in my mind that the wisest, most intelligent, and knowlegeable baseball fans post here at the WIN METHOD.
You are a great asset here Gus. Nice to have you as a WIN METHOD fan and Yankee fan.
Lets get the pitchers back to throwing zeroes again.
AJ three perfect innings. Joba and Feliciano one perfect inning each. 15 up 15 down by the roster staff against the Phillies. Noesi gives up one run in two innings of work and Prior and Ayala go one runless inning each. Great job staff.
AJ has been on a mission. Hope he stays the course.
In tonights split squad game Mitre goes 3 shutout innings and WIN METHOD special Warren goes 2 shutout inning and then 4 lower kids go 1 inning each for a 9 inning shutout. End result Yankee pitchers threw 18 innings today and gave up 1 run.
I know it's early, but in retrospect Pettitte packing it in for his career may be the best thing that happened for the Yankees and many young pitchers coming along.
You speak for alot of people here Gus, mself included.
Garcia gets another turn today. Very nice performances from WIN METHODs Adam Warren so far. This kid is under the radar of the stat frauds and know nothing talking heads.
