WIN METHOD / ANDY PETTITTE

Recently WIN METHOD fans were told Andy Pettitte would pitch this year for the YANKEES. At the time of that post Andy had confirmed he would pitch this year. Andy stated such in his retirement press conference today. Earlier this week Andy changed his mind because he felt the WIN METHOD desire was no longer in the pit of his stomach. That statement from Andy, that the overwhelming desire to go through the grind and have that desire in the pit of his stomach defines the WIN METHOD. That desire is the WIN METHOD. You aren't the best unless you are WIN METHOD. That is what made Pettitte the winningest pitcher in baseball over the span of his career, the winningest pitcher in the history of post season competition, and the starting pitcher with the most World Series rings over his career. Andys' departure leaves a huge void in the YANKEE rotation, but that void will be filled by an up and coming future star from the YANKEE farm system. We will overcome. Andy will be missed. We congratulate Andy and his family, and wish him all the luck in the world in any future endeavors.

WIN METHOD has kept the Yankees in contention since Mr. Steinbrenner and WIN METHOD reached terms of the use of the WIN METHOD back in the early 90's. We are blessed. Love ya, WIN METHOD.

Steve said...

Garcia throws three shutout innings today. The battle continues.

Bob Behan said...

If I am not mistaken, the four pitchers fighting for the 4 and 5 rotation spots, Colon, Garcia, Nova, and Mitre have pitched 20 innings and given up one run.

Carl Hooks said...

The pitching is looking like it may be a very bright star of this team. 28 in 11.

Eugene Rico said...

I remember WIN METHOD saying that he and the Yankees would be selecting pitcher after pitcher a few years back. Look now and the cupboard is full.

YankeeMike said...

So far so good this spring. Keep away from the injury bug, stay healthy and get ready to start the season on fire.

Deb F said...

True, everything is coming along fine. The season is getting really close. 28 in 11.

Izzy Hernandez said...

Night game today. Colon up again.

Yankeeforever said...

Great blog and there is posting action. The baseball forums are dead.

Giambino said...

Colon and four buddies K 16 Pirates. And the beat goes on.

Sharon/NC said...

It is amazing how great our pitchers are doping.

Carl Hooks said...

Five solid shutout frames from CC.

Eddie OConnor said...

Five innings from CC now should make him ready to 7 or 8 by opening day.

Victor Grandozi said...

The frauds are whining and happy as they think Yankee pitching is in trouble. The reality may be Yankee pitching is likely in the top three in baseball.

Steve said...

Nova & Hughes below par in split squad games today. The big runs surrendered by secondary throwers.

johnsondc said...

Lets see what we get when AJ stretches out.

WIN METHOD said...

Hughes has been the worst of the top three so far, but word is he is working on new things more than worrying about his useless individual stats.

bigbadwolf said...

Good to know WIN METHOD.

Steve said...

AJ goes four solid innings giving up his first runs of the spring with one bad pitch allowing a two run HR.

Anonymous said...

AJ is going to blow the mind of all the stat frauds this season. 20 wins?

George W said...

Game on YES network today.

Steve said...

Garcia gets beat up today. Soriano throws shutout inning. Rivera in his first spring outing K's three in a perfect inning.

Tenna/Bronx said...

Longer stints for all the pitchers now. Roster being chopped slowly but surely down to the final 25.

Fred Slube said...

I think I would be more confident if Pettitte was here for another year.

William Mensom said...

Everything will be OK. Just need for a couple of guys to step up and display why they ar WIN METHOD.

Victor Gandozi said...

Banuelos who just turned 20 will get some innings against the bosux tonight. How many years can this kid give us. Wow.!!!!

Don W said...

Game on MLB network for those who get it.

bigbadwolf said...

How about last nights game vs. the bosux. The Yankees threw all minor league pitchers and played only the outfield major leaguers against the sux who started their opening day lineup and used mostly their major league pitchers. Yankees lost 2-1, but the Yankees are a better deeper team.

Cory said...

With Pettitte gone, it doesn't help the team, but we must and will overcome. That is what champions must do to be the best and WIN METHOD is the best.

Benny Pake said...

The bosux sux.

Izzy Hernandez said...

In another week or so we should be setting up the rotation and letting all the starters play together more consistently.

Sid Lovitz said...

We are solid, and we will overcome. 28 in 11.

Paul Hirschmann said...

28 in 11 led by the captain Derek Jeter. 28 in 11. 28 in 11.

Saul Irving said...

Joba being MRI'd.

Jack L said...

within 2 weeks of real baseball, games that count, WIN METHOD baseball.

YankeeMike said...

Nova gets his fourth start tonight. Would love to see him go five solid innings.

Anonymous said...

More than likely Nova being the fourth starter needs to be consistent and effective more often than not.

Bert Jackson said...

Ready to start tonights game. Looks like both teams are using their opening day lineups. Go Ivan.

johnsondc said...

The last three posters define to the world just why this is the best baseball site that exists. Nova goes six innings throwing a no hitter, allowing one hit batsman to the leadoff hitter and one base reaching on an error by the sieve Rodriquez at third base. Nova definately is the number four man in the rotation. The battle will be for the five hole.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

The positiveness of the WIN METHOD and the posters here make this blog the greatest there is. Add on Rivera, Soriano, and Robertson all throwing one shutout inning each last night with Rivera giving up the only hit of the game and you end up with a one hit shutout by the great Yankee pitching staff.

Sharon/NC said...

If Nova pitches consistently anywhere near the way he pitched last night, he will be a fine number four, or better.

Lee Askew said...

Isn't the true worth of a great WIN METHOD player is stepping up when needed. With Pettitte gone, the pitching staff needs to step up and I think they know it.

Bob Behan said...

Nova was in complete control last night. Very dominating.

Deb F said...

Two weeks from today we open with the Tigers. One win at a time. 28 in 11.

Tom Loughlin said...

Lets keepthe great pitching going again tonight.

Steve said...

Hughes throws solid six innings tonight allowing two runs and four hits. Pitching is looking fine.

Nick Polito said...

The pen throws three final shutout innings again following Hughes solid six, for the win.

Linda Pardo said...

After two beautiful games from Nova and Hughes and the relief corps, AJ makes his fourth start today against the Blue Jays. Rockem AJ.

Steve said...

AJ disappointing today going four shaky innings and not being helped by three Yankee errors.

Steve said...

Mitre goes two innings and gets hit pretty hard. Looks like the last rotation spot will go to either Colon or Garcia.

RLA said...

Thanks for all the updates Steve, and your solid wisdom on what may happen with the team.

Lou Lis said...

Would have hoped for more from AJ today.

William Mensom said...

Mitre went a third shutout inning Steve, but I agree the fifth spot should be either Garcia or Colon for now. Hopefully another stud minor league pitcher will develop and take the 5 spot later in the season.

Steve said...

Sorry about the Mitre innings, I thought they pulled him after two innings. I just like the way the Yankees bring along their youngsters without over matching them to early.

Warren Hammond said...

Garcia gets his fourth start this afternoon. Thanks for the tip WIN METHOD.

Steve said...

Todays game is on YES at 1PM. Glad the banks are open today.

Phil Jenkins said...

Garcia can take a giant step with a big effort today.

Steve said...

Three no hit innings from Garcia so far.

Steve said...

Garcia pitches thru the sixth but gives up five runs, three in the 4th and 2 in the sixth. Not very encouraging.

Steve said...

Rivera, Pryor, and Ayala each throw one solid shut out inning. Bullpen has been outstanding this spring.

Linda Rice said...

Game ended in 5-5 10 inning tie. Garcia looked like ordinary 5th spot pitcher.

Eddie OConnor said...

We play the Phillies today as the real season nears and the WINS are the only thing that matters.

William Mensom said...

CC gets the ball today starting against the Phillies while the Yankees likely will start their regular season lineup.

Giambino said...

It looks like the starters are stretching to at least six innings already. The rotation should be in fine shape to open the season.

Steve said...

CC goes 6 2/3 innings and gives up one run dominating the Phillies. Yankees pound Philly pitching for 5 runs so far. Robertson replaces CC.

RLA said...

The Yankees as a team seem to be playing with a purpose beyond the pale.

Steve said...

Game over. Robertson 1/3 inning with a K. Sorianno goes the 8th with a runner reaching on an error. Logan closes out the 9th with 3 Ks.

Erica Johnston said...

I hope I am not being overly optimistic, but this Yankee team appears to be very very good and much improved over last years 95 wins.

Bert Jackson said...

I was thinking the same thing Erica. Hope it's not to good to be true. The bench has improved, the pen is stronger and it was the best last year, and if AJ turns over a new leaf, the year could be mighty fine.

Linda Rice said...

Best is no really bad injuries, knock on wood. Just get ready to play for real. Then only wins count.

David Stern said...

AJ needs to come back with a solid effort. Needs to get a groove going.

Jim Thames said...

CC was very solid yesterday.

Lou Lis said...

Hard to believe we play for real in 10 days.

Patricia Piper said...

Night game today. Should be Colon?

Pete H said...

What a novel concept. Wins and winning, and all along I thought the only thing that counted is what a player achieved for himself, he said tongue in cheek.

Steve said...

Colon is the starter tonight. After Garcias last outing, a big performance from Garcia may push him into the lead for the last rotation spot.

bigbadwolf said...

You meant Colon, Steve. I agree, but there does not seem to be that much of a difference between the two. They both may get some time if one or the other fails.

Steve said...

Colon, three real sharp innings so far.

Steve said...

Colon thru five. No walks, one hit. Looks like colon takes the lead for the rotation choice.

Steve said...

Colon finishes his night with six innings allowing one run and two hits. Excellent outing.

Sharon/NC said...

Colon took a big step forward with last nights effort, for the final Yankee rotation spot. One run in six innings is very tolerable.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

AJ gets his chance to stretch to six plus innings. Keep moving forward AJ.

Claude Reeves said...

Joba is supposed to throw an inning today also.

Frank Sergi said...

In my opinion Colon has the edge over Garcia for the five hole right now. But, then again, I am not on the field with first hand knowledge.

Linda Rice said...

Mitre starts today and probably is on the outside looking in for the last rotation spot.

Mike Smith said...

Mitre pounded for five runs in three innings. Joba surrenders a HR in one inning and Prior is perfect with 2 Ks in 1 inning.

Carl Hooks said...

I think we would be better off with Pryor instead Mitre

William Mensom said...

Mitre is tentatively the long reliever and Pryor would not fill that role. However, we could keep Garcia and Colon and dump Mitre. That may be the best scenario.

Giambino said...

The problem is so many times, the details in each players contract, options, MLB rules, etc., on what a team can do and how they can move a player. The Yankees on the field and in charge of the team will make the decision based on what they think is best for the team at any given time.
I also believe Mitre may be and or should be the man going.

will-i-am said...

Whenever I want to know the real scoop about the Yankees, I come here. Anywhere else is pure BS.

Linda Rice said...

Mitre showed little yesterday. Ugh!

RLA said...

Hughes against the Blue Jays tonite. Look for 6 to 7 innings for Hughes.

Gus Papa said...

The bullpen is unreal. We may be able to play many six inning games.

Lou Lis said...

Once in awhile maybe even 4 or 5.

Teena/Bronx said...

Hughes throws a solid seven innings allowing three runs. Mo throws a perfect eight. Very nice.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

Very nice game from Hughes going seven innings. Logan strikes out the side to finish last nights game. The season is looking good.

Linda Pardo said...

From MLB....the number one selling MLB jersey is that of DEREK JETER. Thank God todays fans have the co0mmon sense to spend their money lauding the best player in MLB over the past twenty years.

Quay Hoy said...

All hail the best of the best. Derek Jeter offensive and defensive whiz.

Oliver H said...

Off day today. One week until our season starts.

Alex Antonius said...

It looks like Garcia and Colon will each get another spring training start and the decision of who will be the fifth starter will be made, if it hasn't already.

Bob Behan said...

If what each has done during this spring session is the determining factor, it should be Colon.

Cory said...

Right bob, but that is what we see. What the field generals see and know behind the scene is what we don't know. So a different outcome could be in the future.

Deb F said...

I like what an earlier poster said. Keep both and dump Mitre.

Eugene Rico said...

Also a final decision is needed for the utility spots. Will Granderson need the disabled list to start the season.

Fred Slube said...

If he can't go 100% I would hope they put him on the DL.

bigbadwolf said...

Last week of spring training. The time for real WIN METHOD baseball is nearing. Stat frauds prepare for your BS fantasy games. But don't forget, your games are not real and have no bearing or relationship to winning.

Vctor Gandozi said...

I love this blog. The posters know baseball and post intelligent comments. Here is William Mensom posted...."""""""Mitre is tentatively the long reliever and Pryor would not fill that role. However, we could keep Garcia and Colon and dump Mitre. That may be the best scenario.

March 22, 2011 7:30 PM"""""

Today the Yankees traded away Mitre for a minor league outfielder. Great insight William and to Deb F for seconding Williams post.

Steve said...

Great call guys and gals. Great baseball acumen.

Gus Papa said...

Can't feel sorry for Mitre. He knew what he had to do to earn a spot and he failed on his own.

Harry Stavris said...

Nova gets the start tonight. Lets see how he does after his 6 inning no hit stint last outing.

Steve said...

Nova, one single after two complete.

Steve said...

Nova completes his second consecutive six inning outing. Giving up 2 runs and 3 hits. In his last 2 starts totaling 12 innings Nova has allowed no hits in 10 of the innings, 1 hit in 1 inning and his worst inning 2 runs and 2 hits.

YankeeMike said...

It is very nice how the Yankees bloom and grow their youngsters and don't push them when they are not really ready for MLB competition. Nova looks like he blooming and growing into a legitimate winner. Best is, ther are more coming in the next few years.

Norm Daniels said...

Banuelos gets start today on TV. CC gets final tuneup vs. minor leaguers before he starts season Thursday in NY.

johnsondc said...

The Yankees with WIN METHOD behind the scene are the wisest franchise in baseball. And the way they develop their young talent is second to none. And what is most amazing they always have a very low draft pick. That just makes WIN METHOD that much more brilliant.

Izzy Hernandez said...

Garcia named to the fifth rotation spot today. Colon will be in the bullpen. Girardi said he picked Garcia because he pitched in the majors last year and won, while Colon has not pitched in the majors since 2009. Garcia also has the innings behind him.

Don Baker said...

Jeter and Arod have had a tremendous spring on an individual basis.

Victor Bruno said...

Yankee pitching again dominates this afternoon. Almost everybody threw.

Zhaire said...

Banuelos is going to be very very good down the road. the Yankees are being very shrewd in bringing him along without hurting or demanding too much from him at his very young age.

Yankeeforever said...

Everyone is getting their spring training behind them and putting the final touches on display these last few days before real baseball. Go Yankees 28 in 11.

Phil Jenkins said...

It looks like some stat heads are going crazy and crying out loud. They can't understand how Girardi picked Garcia over Colon as the fifth starter when Colons individual stats so over shadowed Garcias during spring training.
Note for stat frauds, individual stats don't mean very much.

RLA said...

Real baseball is for the team to win. fantasy baseball is for the individual to succeed. 28 in 11.

Nick Polito said...

The lower level minor league pitchers are having their last hurrah with the big team. Many subs playing positions also. Meaningless.

Gary Henson said...

Great spring for the Yankees. Only Granderson and Cervelli suffered bench injuries.

Frank Sergi said...

AJ and Nova may be the keys to the season.

Patricia Piper said...

28 in 11 fans. Lets do it because we can.

Bob Behan said...

Agree Frank and Patricia. AJ and Nova may surprise everyone and win 30 games between them. Because they can.

YankeeMike said...

If AJ and Nova can win 15 each, then we only need 15 each from CC and Hughes. Get 10 from the 5th spot and you have 70 wins. You get 20 or more from the pen.

Giambino said...

If the first four of the rotation stay healthy all year, it is not unreasonable to expect each of them to win even more than 15 games each.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

If anyone gets injured we have backups in the wings, although it may be pushing them a bit, they are young.

Gus Papa said...

Pettitte only went 2/3 of the year and had 11 wins. Nova can easily match that.

Erica Johnston said...

Tonights game rained out. Hope it doesn't screw up the pitching to much.

George W said...

We went through spring without rain and then get rained out just a few days before opening day. It can't help, but you just work around it and earn 28 in 11.

Giambino said...

Two days two hours until opening day at the Stadium. Lets go Yankees.

Steve said...

Looks like Feliciano will be on DL for opening, Pryor to fill his slot? Granderson says he will be ready for opening series. Nunez and Chavez fill infield utility roles. Romaine and Montero to minors for more seasoning and consistent ABs.

Linda Rice said...

Garcia 4 2/3 innings of 1 run baseball today and Colon a perfect 9th for the save. Beautiful.

RLA said...

The pitching has been absolutely astounding this spring. so many doing so well.

Robert Mandell said...

AJ was the one who missed his innings because of the Monday rain out. He is the one who could least afford it. So be it.

Tom Loughlin said...

With the depth of the bull pen all the starters need to do is keep us close.

bigbadwolf said...

Winning and wins. That is all that counts and determines the best players and teams. That is the real baseball world. 28 in 11 with WINS.

Teena/Bronx said...

28 hours until our first real game and the quest for 28 in 11 begins.

Erica Nuyens said...

In WIN METHODs opening blog he stated """""""""Andys' departure leaves a huge void in the YANKEE rotation, but that void will be filled by an up and coming future star from the YANKEE farm system. We will overcome."""""""" WIN METHOD is right again as Ivan Nova has stepped forward to fill the gap. Lova ya.

Gus Papa said...

Rain may play a part in tomorrows opener. We have the pen where 6 or 7 guys can go 1 inning each if need be.

Giambino said...

Just as long as everyone stays loose and doesn't get hurt in the much cooler weather. 28 in 11 begins in 24 hours.

Claude Reeves said...

CC needs to get us off on the right foot, and AJ to follow up with a command performance.

Sharon/NC said...

It's pouring here in NC now, hope it doesn't move north tomorrow.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Lets go Yankees. 28 in 11.

YankeeMike said...

We also have an individual highlight early this season as the beswt baseball pl;ayer in mLB over the past twenty years, DEREK JETER achieves his 3000th MLB hit. Should be a nice birthday present for him as that is just about when the goal will be achieved.

johnsondc said...

Todays the day. Hours to game time. The season begins. The goal 28 in 11. No one else comes close.

Teena/Bronx said...

On and off showery light rain this morning and expected during day. should be able to get the game in, and as Gus said, we have the pen to pitch one inning stints to win the game.

Jack L said...

We are considered the underdog, but we are the best. The talking heads drink toilet water.

Victor Bruno said...

Lets win the first one Yankee fans.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Headed to the Stadium. Opening day tickets are not easy to come buy.

WIN METHOD said...

Lets go people. Lets get the season started with a Yankee ovation. Go Yankees. Lets go Yankees, lets go. Lets go Yankees, lets go.

Eddie OConnor said...

Those of you going to the game, enjoy and root us the win. 28 in 11.

Quay Ho said...

Big game from CC. Now it counts.

Linda Rice said...

Just over an hour to go. I want to hear Sterlings...Theeeee Yankeeeeees Winnnnn.

Choo choo. the train leaves the station shortly. Next stop 28 in 11.

Phil Jenkins said...

Game time, lets roll.

Steve said...

A perfect first from CC.

Fred Slube said...

Two walks for the Yankees in the first, no runs as Cano K's. Made Verlander throw 31 pitches.

Victor Gandozi said...

Verlander and the Tigers are sent a three run TEXt message after a Martin single and Jeter walk. 28 in 11.

Steve said...

CC struggling a little. 3-2 Yankees after 3 1/2.

Steve said...

3-3 after five. Game will come down to the bullpens.

Mark Wogaman said...

Six inning complete. 3-3 and both starters are done. Very good game.

Steve said...

Three up three down for Joba in the seventh.

Steve said...

Granderson HR in 7th and Jeter with an RBI sac fly for a 5-3 lead going to the 8th.

Warren Hammond said...

Yankees score twice for a 5-3 lead after seven.

Victor Bruno said...

Sorianno three up three down in the eight. One more inning.

Steve said...

Mo closes it out, the Yankees win 6-3. Good start to 28 in 11.

johnsondc said...

I've been with this blog since its inception and I am consistently amazed at the knowledge and intelligence of the Yankee fans who post here. Recently a poster stated all the Yankee starters ave to do is keep the team in the game and then the bullpen who finish the game off. Here today in the first game of the season, it happens. CC keeps the Yankees in the game throught six innings and the three perfect innings from three Yankee relievers for the win, hold, and save.
This is undenalbly the best blog in baseball.

will-i-am said...

Theeeee Yankeeeeeeeees Winnnnnnn.

Sharon/NC said...

Granderson played a sparkling defensive center field today with a couple very fine plays. Jeter, the best defensive shortstop in baseball made a brilliant play going deep in the hole and getting a force out at second and very likely preventing a Detroit inning.

Mike Smith said...

Good stuff johnsondc. The fans here make the talking heads look like buffoons.

William Mensom said...

A day off Friday, then AJ gets to show off the new and improved AJ Saturday as the quest for 28 in 11 continues.

Yankeeforever said...

It would be really fine if AJ does very well tomorrow and can shut up his detractors. Get us six innings AJ, just like CC.

Mickey Morch said...

As long as each starter can hold the opposition to 2 or 3 runs a game, we should and could and will win most games.

Cory said...

Play one game at a time, keep winning series, and the playoffs are made. Go AJ.

Alex Antonius said...

New and improved AJ on display tomorrow.

Gus Papa said...

After AJ tomorrow, it will be Hughes Sunday, Nova Monday and CC again Tuesday, and finally Garcia Wednesday.

Izzy Hernandez said...

I second and completely agree with johnsondcs last post. This blog and the fans here know more baseball than any other site I have ever visited.

Pete H said...

Can we be 6-0 after our first full rotation?

johnsondc said...

bosux ace trounced and bullpen implodes while losing opener 9-5. Right, they are the best, on paper.

johnny said...

Go Yankees

David Stern said...

Start off right AJ. Throw strikes and dominate. 28 in 11.

Stan the Man said...

How nice to have the bosux beaten up while we win . It's a long season and a long battle, but we are WIN METHOD and know you only win on the field.

Bob Behan said...

I see directv and YES are having a conflict. If directv doesn't resign YES they are ignorant.

Erica Johnston said...

Todays game can be a great confidence builder for AJ. Throw strikes and win the day. 28 in 11.

Jimmy Thames said...

Lets go Yankees. Take control and win game two.

Teena/Bronx said...

Beautiful day in NYC and it's almost game time as the run for 28 in 11 continues.

Steve said...

One complete as AJ is perfect and with 2 Ks. Jeter leads the way to a 3 run inning and a 3-0 lead.

Steve said...

Tigers receive another 3 run TEXt message. 4 Ks for AJ after 2 with Yankees leading 6-0.

Steve said...

AJ hanging tough thru five. Yanks leading 6-3 and batting in the fifth.

Steve said...

Three run dinger from Martin. 9-3 Yankees after five and AJ earns his first win of the season.

Saul Irving said...

Theeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeeees winnnnnnnnn. 10-6 final. Jeter two hits closer to 3000.

YankeeMike said...

Hughes turn tomorrow. Just keep it close and earn the win for the team.

Tom Loughlin said...

So far so good. we have the series, and ideally the sweep today. Hughes needs to do just what CC and AJ did. And AJ pitched while very much under the weather.
