WIN METHOD PLAYOFF CHOICES 2010

Here are my choices and why for the first round playoff roster for the World Champion NEW YORK YANKEES. We are looking for the best twenty-five players who could be of the most value to help the team WIN through the first round of the American League playoffs.
Starting with the pitching staff, probably the most important position on any team. I go with eleven pitchers...1. CC Sabathia, 2. Andy Pettitte, 3. Phil Hughes, 4. AJ Burnett, as the possible starters. 5. Mariano Rivera, as the closer. 6. Boone Logan, 7. Royce Ring as the lefty relievers. I choose Ring to give Girardi somewhat more flexibility in the spot lefty reliever spot. 8. Joba Chamberlain, 9. Kerry Wood, 10. David Robertson, as the right handed relievers and 11. Ivan Nova as the possible long reliever if needed and or spot reliever.
For catcher, I would carry just two, 12. Jorge Posada, and 13. Francisco Cervelli.
At first base, it would be 14. Mark Teixeira, and 15. Lance Berkman.
At second, third, and short my selections are 16. Derek Jeter (the best baseball player in MLB over the past decade and a half), 17. Robinson Cano, 18. Alex Rodriquez, 19. Ramiro Pena, and 20. Eduardo Nunez, the last two for base stealing speed and late defensive prowess at third base.
Finally for the outfield, 21. Brett Gardner, 22. Nick Swisher, 23. Curtis Granderson, 24. Marcus Thames, and 25. Greg Golson. Golson for late inning defense and the ability to steal in a crucial situation.
In my view, this group of twenty-five offers the best pitching, hitting, defense, speed, and flexibility in order to cover any aspect of any game depending on any situation.

Sad to think that any baseball person would rate stats higher than winning. That is why WIN METHOD is king.

Carl Hooks said...

Correct Eddie. Anyone who says the loser is better than the winner and then tries to explain it, is a fool.

Linda Rice said...

Add this people. So many of the corrupt stats used by the frauds, aka idiots, are man made, ill conceived, beside being useless and meaningless. Just more fraud like global warming.

Jeff Wenz said...

For Hans Schroeder: managers and coaches are the ones who vote for Gold Gloves. It's pretty doubtful that those guys bring stats into their choice. Probably the fairest point I've seen on whether these pros are really making the right call is the way the schedule is set up today. Especially with interleague, they are not getting a wide view of everyone out there. Their jobs don't permit them. So they fall back on the known quantity. This is what I raised with bigbadwolf when I first wrote.

Phil Jenkins said...

I heard where one of the defensive zone rating boondoggles ranked Cano and Tex below average also. Created by fools to be utilized by fools.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Jeff...The Gold Glovers are selected by managers and coaches. Yes, the manangers and coaches do not see every player equally. But I do not think American League managers and coaches voter for NL players, so they do all get to see every AL player most of the time, but surely not equally. I think all these managers and coaches do talk to each other, talk to their players, and do learn a lot about players they do not see more than others. In baseball, particularly with the people who are involved with actual games, the word about players abilities and short comings gets around very quickly. If anything Gold Glove Awards may be one of the most accurate depictions of a players true ability.

Victor Bruno said...

The guys on the field with the position of authority and the guys who know baseball best voted in the Gold Glovers. Every player voted in should be acknowledged at the best at their position.

Zhaire said...

Don't forget,GG's are personal, the WS is the prize.

YankeeMike said...

No shortstop in baseball has made the plays Jeter has made at the level he plays all during his career. He is the best.

Sandro Icavor said...

I wonder if Cliff Lee will make his decision before Christmas.

Nick Polito said...

If Lee is WIN METHOD, he will sign with the Yankees and before Christmas in my opinion.

Benny Pake said...

We don't really have to have Lee.

Robert Mandell said...

True, we don't have to have Lee. there are several solid minor league prospects on the horizon.

Paaul Hirschman said...

But if Lee is healthy and added to what we have, the staff would be over whelming.

Robert Mandell said...

Paul..you never know. If Lee is not WIN METHOD he will not help the team.

Sharon/NC said...

I'll be away for a couple of weeks. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. 28 in 11.

RLA said...

Same to you Sharon, have fun. And yes 28 in 11.

Hernandez wins AL Cy Young over CC. ROFLOL

Steve said...

Wow, a .500 pitcher over a big time winning ace. Just goes to show how ignorant people who use individual stats are.

bigbadwolf said...

When an award is given to an individual who helps lead their team to last place, the award is then justifiably deemed meaningless. that should excite the stat frauds, because they too are meaningless.

Anonymous said...

Right. We should punish Felix for having little run support to speak of this season. That makes sense because obviously Felix didn't do enough to win any games.

Let's see...80 runs given up by Felix compared to 92 by CC. Oh yeah and Felix pitched 12 more innings. One more fun stat for you fine folks: Felix had the lowest run support average in the league at 3.75, which is nearly doubled for CC.

Yep, lets punish Felix for not having an offense to back him up.

bigbadwolf said...

Another anonymous hits the board. Your answer is one we have heard before. It's all his team mates fault. I think almost everyone here accepts Felix Hernandez is a top of line pitcher. But he was not the best in the AL this past season.

Linda Pardo said...

Exactly wolfie. Hernandez was not the best pitcher in the AL last year, unless someone thinks helping your team to last place makes you the best. He pitches under no playoff pressure and no spot light.

Bert Jackson said...

No .500 pitcher in any season on any second rate team should ever win an award.

Pete H said...

Back to Jeter. At least 20mil a year for the best player in baseball who helps lead his team to the most playoffs, pennants, and World Series.

Tom Loughlin said...

Pete and Bert, you both are right on target. I agree.

Steve said...

That moderator at baseballfever, Tony Stark has lifted his ignorance to its highest level yet. If anyone wants a good laugh, then read the ramblings of Starks, a blithering idiot in the Yankee forum over there. Particularly in the jeter threads.

WIN METHOD said...

Hey Steve. I have asked Starks to post his views here. Alas he fails to comply/ that is what people do when they have nothing of substance to offer and live by lies, deceit, and mis-information. We are waiting Tony.

Erica Nuyens said...

You are right again WIN METHOD. Love ya.

Deb F said...

If WIN METHOD finds Lee is WIN METHOD, Lee will be a Yankee.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Lee and CC are close. that could mean the difference.

Giambino said...

Just as long as Hal and Hank continue with their fathers desire to WIN and his love of the WIN METHOD.

Frankie Sergi said...

Steinbrenner loved winning over money. He was a God send to Yankee fans. Miss you George.

Linda Rice said...

CC,AJ,Andy, Hughes, and Lee would be pretty awesome.

YankeeMike said...

Sad to say there are fans in this world who hate Jeter so much, they rip him every which way but loose. What they can't seem to, or are mentally unable to understand, is that Jeter has been the best player in baseball over his career. And doing so both offensively and defensively. No other player in baseball has led his team to as many playoffs, pennants and WS rings, has unblemished character and charisma, is the face of MLB, and the captain of the best team in baseball over his career. Throw in, he has more WINS than any other player in baseball over the same time frame.

Steve said...

Well said YankeeMike. It turns my stomach when I hear people belittleing Jeter. I quickly lose respect for thei input and ideas on almost anything else they talk about. Jeter has unquestionably been the best player in baseball by accomplishing for his team what the game of baseball is played for. To WIN.

Tom Loughlin said...

Ditto YankeeMike and Steve. It tends to be the stat fraud losers who demean Jeter, while the fans who really know baseball, give his well deserved kudos.

Chuck Heath said...

It all comes down to the old adage....to be the best you got to win. In the eyes of the stat frauds, you are only the best if our phoney concoted stats say you are. Stat frauds are the epitome of ignorance.

James P said...

If the Yankees are smart and give Jeter at least four years, they may not have to resign him again.

Gary Hopkins said...

The Yankees front office should be smart enough to know that they can't part with Jeter under bad terms or feelings. Jeter can and will make much money off his talents and charm in anything he pursues after baseball. The Yankees need him more than he needs them.

Tony Hill said...

I am sure the depressed press and anti-Jeter crowd will blow the negotiations well out of proportion in a sad attempt to create news and controversy.

Gus Papa said...

Hal and Hank better not pee off George. I am sure he will reach out and touch them in a way they might not like.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

If Hal and Hank start doing dumb things they will cripple the franchise and kill the goose that is laying the golden egg.

Stan the Man said...

Good thought Vlad. If the sons try to make the stars look bad they will be the ones who pay the price in the end. H and H have no face value, bur the stars do and can make big bucks in a variety of ways.

Sandro Icavor said...

So true guys. Mo and Jeter can make mucho dinero on their star status.

Gus Papa said...

And Hank and Hal have only what their father left them. If they are not WIN METHOD, the Yankee glory days may be over and we could be in store for the old CBS days again.

bigbadwolf said...

I've been reading some of the loser baseball talk forums. I can't believe those people know so little about baseball and winning. They tear into Jeter and belittle the baseball player who over the past 15 years has won more games than any other player, helped lead his team to the most playoffs, pennants, and World Championships. The guy has been one of the most clutch performers in baseball and has been the best shortstop in baseball. What jerks over there, that's why I am here.

Erica Nuyens said...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone. Eat, drink, and be well. Love ya, WIN METHOD.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

And say a prayer the Yankee hierarchy doesn't get to stupid. Happy Thanksgiving. Pay Jeter and Mo for being the two best winners in baseball.

Hans Schroeder said...

Right sid. And Happy Thanksgiving everyone. 28 in 11.

Linda Pardo said...

The turkeys in the oven and am watching the parade. Happy Thanksgiving all. Pay Mo and Jeets.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Watching FOX news and ready to sit down and eat Tom. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Zhaire said...

Happy Thanksgiving.

Steve said...

Jeter and the Yankees will come to terms. If the Yankees indeed offered 3 years at 15M per and Jeter was earning @ 19M per, and wants 4 years, they are very close. So you Jeter demeaners who do not know the slightest about winning baseball, get out your crying towels.

Brian Hentz said...

A little late but Happy Thanksgiving. I ate too much.

Yankeeforever said...

After the weekend, lets hope the Yankees get down to brass tacks and do the right thing by Jeter and Mo.

WIN METHOD said...

Happy Thanksgiving WIN METHOD fans and supporters. On the YANKEE front, there will be some pleasant happenings occurring. Not everything is as it was while working with the late Mr.S., but what will be will be. Think positive and say a few prayers for Hal and Hank for them to be able to see the light.

Erica Nuyens said...

I hope what you are saying WIN METHOD is not what I think it means. Love ya.

johnsondc said...

I read it as possibly Ha and Hank maybe moving away from the WIN METHOD. If they do, it will just go to prove what a genius their father was and how stupid they may be.

Victor Gandozi said...

If Hal and Hank don't straighten out,the Yankees will slowly fade out.

Carl Hooks said...

Lets hope they got some of their fathers will to win and brains. With the WIN METHOD guiding them they could be winners for a very long time.

Gary Hopkins said...

The stat frauds continue to belittle Jeter. They think Jeter will leave the Yankees and Afraud will move to shortstop. First Afraud sucks at third base and would be absolutely putrid at short. That is why he was move to third by the on field intelligent baseball pros. No way Afraud come ever replace the best defensive shortstop in the game in Jeter. After Afrauds steroid use, he could totally fall apart any day. He can't move at third, and his defense is sad. Jeter just has to cover that much more ground.

Gus Papa said...

Also these same stat frauds make wild accusations regarding what Jeter may be asking while they have absolutely no knowledge about. Jeter has simply put, been the best most winningest baseball player over the duration of his career. Particularly defensively with several Gold Gloves.

Erica Johnston said...

Jealousy of the best player in the game. Jeter defines greatness offensively, defensively, but most importantly by winning. Through in Jeters great looks, over whelming fan popularity, and his Turn 2 Foundation charity, and you have the greatest face of baseball in the world.

Fred Slube said...

Great observations Erica. Jeter is the best baseball has to offer. Winning is the measure of greatness. something frauds can't accept.

Carl Joyner said...

Frauds live by numbers which can be manipulated to say almost anything. Wins, playoffs, pennants, and WS Championships are earned by winning and by the best players in the game.

Phil Jenkins said...

Jeter and Mo....before or after Christmas?

Warren Hammond said...

What may or may not irk Hal and Hank is just how close Jeter and George were. Throw in Georges total desire ti WIN at any cost and Hank and Hal are the ones in a bind, not Jeter. Jeter has never wasted or frivaled away his earnings. Jeter has it made for the rest of his life. Pay him.

Thor Gustaffson said...

I am Thor Gustaffson from Sweden. Why wouldn't everyone think that to be the best, you would have to win. That is what we think in Sweden.

johnsondc said...

Welcome Thor. Great to have you here. You are right. How some people can believe that if you lose your are the best is not very smart. You must win to be the best.

Steve said...

Even in Sweden they know the difference between winning and losing. The stat frauds must be living in a world of their own creation. A world of lies, deceit, deception and BS.

Nick Polito said...

So, if I understand correctly, a player with 50 HRs and leads his team to last place is better than a player who plays the same position, hits 25 HRs and leads his team to the World Series. If that is a belief of anyone, then they would be a stat fraud.

Benny Pake said...

That sounds like stat fraud logic to me. You lose you are great, you win, but do not meet our stat requirements, you suck.

Tom Loughlin said...

Tis the season to be jolly. Quit picking on the stat frauds. They don't know their A from their E. they can't help what they are.

bigbadwolf said...

If anyone gets a chance...Jim Dahlberg an AP sports writer has a great column about Derek Jeter. Pretty much what all of us are saying here about Jeter, his value and his greatness.

Linda Rice said...

A great article which just reiterates everything that has been stated here.

Phil Jenkins said...

Jim Dahlberg get it. A sports writer who really does know baseball.
Jeter will win this battle just like he wins more than any other player in baseball.

Al Ashton said...

Excellent and accurate comments.

Victor Bruno said...

Thanks for the heads up. Loved the story.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Hooray for Dahlberg. He has earned my respect for writing the truth.

Teena/Bronx said...

Rumor has it Jeter and the Yankees are getting closer. closer to Jeter that is.

RLA said...

And that they should. Jeter is gold for the Yankees. Pay him and shut up Hal and Hank.

Sharon/NC said...

I wonder what the stat frauds say when the smartest men and the closest to the game give Jeter all those Gold Glove Awards so many times. I wonder if the stat frauds think these men are stupid and that only they the stat frauds are ever right. One thing I know for sure, the stat frauds are seldom if ever right. When I hear someone in a discussion go right to their stat sheet, I know their opponent is smarter and wiser than them.

johnsondc said...

Nice to see you back Sharon. Hope you enjoyed your time off.

Billy Morgan said...

The Yankees just upped their offer to Jeter.

Gary Hopkins said...

Pay the captain. He is the best choice to lead us to another World Series before he's done.

Vctor Gandozi said...

Sure thing Gary. Jeter had an off year, mostly do to a rotten month of offense, but in the last three weeks of the season and the playoffs he bounced back and was the regular Jeter. His defense however continued to be the best in baseball at shortstop and also having to cover some of 3rd base because Arod has no range.

Eddie OConnor said...

Rivera has been offered a three year deal by at least one and maybe a second team, but Mo said he will sign with no other team than the Yankees. Real and true WIN METHOD.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

Word is Rivera has been signed by the Yankees today. Just not announced yet.

Alex Antonius said...

Jeter will be next. And at full value for the best player in the game.

Phil Jenkins said...

It would be nice to have Jeets and Mo in the fold, and then go after whomever WIN METHOD says makes the grade.

Nick Polito said...

Sounds like a plan.

Gus Papa said...

You really have to get a good laugh from these stat fraud ninkapoops. They rant an rave about something they have no idea or knowledge about, re Jeter and what he is asking from the Yankees, or what and if how many, or how much other teams are willing to give Jeter. They whine and cry about the Yankees offering Jeter more money and claim the Yankees are bidding against themselves. What utter nonsense. Jeter is the face of baseball, the ultimate Yankees, and the best player in the game. Yet the frauds demean him, all the time making fools of themselves and justifying how worthless their opinions are.

Frankie Sergi said...

Latest rumor on Jeter. Three years with a fouth year option at just about 18M.

WIN METHOD said...

Jeter and the Yankees have reached agreement on a three year deal with a mutual option on a fourth year. Jeter will receive just about what he asked for and a couple of million more than what the Yankees first offer was per year. To clarify one thing, Jeter never asked for a penny more than what he was being paid on his previous ten year deal. Jeter also deferred a significant amount of the money to help lower the Yankee luxury tax obligations. Mo is signed, Jeter is signed, all is well in the Bronx. Now to the free agent market.

Erica Nuyens said...

Thank you WIN METHOD. Great info. Love ya.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

It is sure nice to have Rivera and Jeter accounted for before the Holidays. Now everyone can be joyful and have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Giambino said...

Jeter in the fold almost guarantees another year in the playoffs. Whine about that stat frauds.

Pete H said...

Thank God Jeter is signed. Maybe Hal and Hank aren't as dumb as some have hinted. Lets see what happens over the next month or two.

Stan the Man said...

I wonder when Lee will decide who he will go with. I am sure if WIN METHOD finds Lee to be WIN METHOD and Hal and Hank don't throw in the towel when the going gets tough, Lee will sign with the Yankees.

Jerry Curcio said...

Time will tell.

Deb F said...

It would be great for the Yankees, Yankee fans, and Derek Jeter if he could lead the team to another World Series before he packs it in.

Sharon/NC said...

The captain leads by example. There has been no better player over the past decade and a half for the Yankees, baseball, and fans to emulate. Hail, Derek Jeter.

Cory said...

CC, Lee, Pettitte, Hughes, AJ. Would be a very nice staff.

Fred Slube said...

We have to get Lee first, but it would be a great staff.

Giambino said...

Hope WIN METHOD gives us the scoop.

Steve said...

He always does. Yanks say they will offer no more than 6 years to Lee and less than what they pay CC per year.

Victor Gandozzi said...

If Lee doesn't want to be a Yankee, to hell with him. He should be honored the Yankees are bidding for his services.

Eddie OConnor said...

I rather have Pettitte for another year and go with one of the young rising pitchers we have.
