WIN METHOD - YANKEE BASEBALL                              HOT STOVE 2024 - 2025

The 2024 season has concluded, not in the way YANKEE fans were looking for.  Playing the 162-game regular season and making the playoffs was really good. Winning two playoff series against two of the best teams in baseball and earning the right to be one of only two teams in the World Series was great.  Losing the World Series, even maybe the way the YANKEES lost the World Series was a big letdown, and a sad way to end the 2024 season. Bad things can happen at bad times, and vice versa, it is part of baseball.

The 2024 season is now part of the past. We are now between seasons, and the hot stove is lit, as the stove is warming up.  There are some big names in free agency who teams will be wooing and bidding on.  None bigger than Juan Soto.
The YANKEES will do everything they can to keep Soto in pinstripes and teamed with Aaron Judge, keeping intact the most formidable one-two offensive punch in baseball. The YANKEES will also be in the market, either through free agency, trade, or from their minor league system a first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, starting pitcher, high pressure relief pitcher, and an outfielder.

From the horse's mouth, the YANKEES will be all in on reaching and winning the World Series in 2025. It's up to the YANKEE brass to put the pieces in place to make it happen, and then for the pieces to make happen on the field. Watch for a couple of internal options this season.  WIN METHOD baseball will be the battle cry.  Hal Steinbrenner and company will do their best; however, it always takes two parties to make a deal happen.

For you, the fans of the WIN METHOD blog and concept, this blog will hit the two billion view mark over the next two weeks.  That is simply amazing.  Fans read and post on this blog from all over the world, you all have made the WIN METHOD blog the number one YANKEE baseball blog in existence, bar none. Thank you for being here and all your comments.  Isn't it great to have no advertisements, no sign up nonsense, no popups, and no ignorant moderators telling you what you can and can't say.

Thank you all again, for being an integral part of this blog.  LETS GO YANKEES.

Phillies/Yankees play 7-7 nine inning tie in a typical early spring training game. Yankee high notes, Volpe 2 run HR and Cabrera a solo HR. Low spot, Rodon another poor outing, giving up 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Will Judge and Bellinger bat 2-3 against right handed pitchers? Common sense and logical I think.

Yankees with a pleasant 9-3 early spring win this afternoon. Yankee HRs from Lombard, Rice, and Gabrielson. It was just his first game of the season for LeMahieu, but he looked bad hitting as the DH.

The Yankees Lombard Jr. is held in high regard by most baseball 'analyst people', the Yankees, and many fans like me. He is just 19 years old, will turn 20 exactly 3 months from today. He has the pedigree, the body, and athleticism, to reach a high level. This season in the minors his story will start to play out as he develops. My hope is he is the Yankee third baseman for the 2026 season at minimum. Possibly, late this season also? The Yanks are due for a diamond and so are the Yankee fans.

TRUMP CONGRESSIONAL ADDRESS -- March 4, 2025

The starkest impact made by President Donald Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress was the boldness of his vision and the absolute absence of any alternative from the Democratic Party.

Whether you voted for Trump or not last November, it was hard on Tuesday night not to see someone seeking to put his agenda into practice. The president made clear to lawmakers, and indeed the world, that his overarching goal is American renewal and the reinvigoration of the American Dream.

As an American patriot who remembers JFK’s inaugural address in 1961, and remembers Ronald Reagan’s inaugural address in 1980, it’s hard not to see the president’s speech in the same terms.

Still, it is very hard for anyone who is a neutral observer to do anything other than recognize the forward-looking, expansive nature of Trump's vision.

At the same time, it does not appear to me that the political party that I continue to belong to, with increasing difficulty, has any answers at all.

Jack Gordon said...

Doug, you do realize you do not need to remain with the democrat party. It does not exist as you knew it. The democrat party has been hi-jacked by liberals and progressive, who are the true scum of the earth. They are now known as the demonrats. All past democrats and those still clinging to the democrat past, you are being ignored. See the light, join the MAGA movement, help save your country, become sane, become a republican conservative.

After his second spring start, which was poor, Cole getting test on his pitching elbow. Just too many injuries to too many players in baseball nowadays.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

I am the last gloom and doomer, and hope I am wrong, but I think Cole may be done. Because he went through this last season with his elbow. Got patched up, and held together long enough to help get the Yankees to the WS. When he asked for an extension on his contract of this past winter I wondered why. When the Yankees said no, I felt they knew Cole was hanging by a thread. The thread broke, and at his age, I think he may be done. This is sad for me to write, and in my opinion this what you get when baseball players are pushed, and push themselves to extremes their bodies are not able to handle. 😢☹️😢

White Knight said...

The problem is MLB and the owners. They are reaping in the dollars at the expense of baseball fans of every team. They push the players to limits their bodies cannot endure. Throw hard, harder, hardest, swing the bat hard, harder, hardest, exit velocity, launch angle, spin rate, and more. The game is being destroyed as each player is destroyed.

yankeeforever said...

The Yankee knowing Cole issue could be his end at any time, may have been the reason they signed Fried, who may fall into the final injury trap in any year down the road.

Jennifer Simon said...

The players who make it to MLB, if they are smart, are set for life financially. Even, the players who don't will live pretty comfortably, again if they are smart about handling the money they earn. Then there are always so many players who love the game that don't make the majors and don't make a lot of many. Hopefully they got a college degree and can live well off that. But then, there are the players from foreign countries who are the worse off and just go back home and maybe struggle.

If Cole is done for the season, or even misses half the season, the Yankee lineup will have to really step up for the team to make the playoffs.

Just want to put our likely Opening Day lineup in perspective for people who keep saying we can’t develop hitters:

Drafted/INTL signed by Yanks: 6 (Wells, Judge, Volpe, Rice, Domínguez, Cabrera/Peraza)

Traded, paying with actual prospects: 1 (Chisholm)

FA from outside the org, or traded for by taking on salary: 2 (Bellinger, Goldy)

A full good season at the plate for Wells (115-120 wRC+), which is not his ceiling, would make him a 6 WAR phenom. Judge is Judge. Getting Volpe’s bat to even league-average puts him at 4+ WAR. Rice looks like he may have responded to pitchers adjusting and can pose a genuine threat at the plate. Domínguez has the hype and the tools to succeed. Chisholm has looked like playing for a winning team (with a short porch to boot) unlocked his potential. Cabrera provides great defense at a ton of positions and league-average against RHP, and Peraza might be able to make it as his platoon partner.

That’s a ton of talent to generate in-house or acquire with talent you generated in-house.

After taking a 9-0 lead, minor league Yankee relievers give up 7 runs to the Phillies before getting the final out for a 9-7 win. These kids can't throw strikes. I know they are just developing and learning, but you see how many guys reach the minor leagues and then see how few ever get to the major leagues, it goes to show just how hard baseball is.

If todays game was a regular season game, I would be very upset right now. Leading 7-0 after eight innings, a couple of minor league pitchers give up 8 runs in the ninth innings and Yankees lose 8-7. The score doesn't matter when the game doesn't matter. It did matter to the two Yankee relievers who looked like they were pitching batting practice.

Sad news from Brett Gardner and his wife Jessica.

Here is the statement from Brett and Jessica Gardner.

With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.

Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.

We are so thankful to all who have reached out to offer support and encouragement during this difficult time and we are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us navigate this unimaginable loss. Our prayers go out to Miller's teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief.

I don't know how many of you noticed this Yankee this spring. In my opinion he quietly excelled and played all spring including today's final game. Here he is.

Ismael Munguia. He isn't a slugger, but what he lacks in raw power, he makes up for with elite bat-to-ball skills.
Last season in the minors, he played 93 games and posted a .286/.387/.418 slash line while striking out just 9.9% of the time. This spring, he was even better, hitting .390/.419/.512 across 19 games with just two strikeouts. That’s a minuscule 4.7% strikeout rate. He will be ready when the phone rings.

Rodon, first inning, first batter, 3 strikes for the K - no emotion from Rodon, perfect. Second batter a ground ball that Jazz fields on outfield grass to throw out runner - Torres doesn't make that play. Third batter infield popup to first baseman. Rodon leaves mound with no emotion. Great start.

Final. Yanks win 4-2. Solo HR from Wells and Volpe. rbi double from Judge and sacrifice fly from Bellinger for all the Yankee runs. Rodon does his job giving up 1 run in 5 1/3 innings for the win. Hill 2/3 inning, Leiter 1 inning, Weaver 1 inning, all shutout innings each get a hold. Williams (a new version of Clay Holmes?) allows 1 run in 9th, was a hit away from a tie game, threw over 40 pitches, but escaped disaster for the save.

Victor Grandozi said...

Yanks win 4-2. Nail biter ninth inning, but we Yankee fans are use to that. Maybe Williams was nervous and felt pressure in his first Yankee appearance and in Yankee Stadium with a full house. He did get through it and the Yankees won.

Yankee RBI's today Goldschmidt 1, Chisholm 1, Wells 1, Peraza 2, Volpe 3, Bellinger 4, Judge 8 = 20. Final score 20-9. Fried only went 4 2/3 innings giving up 6 runs and did not earn the win. Carrasco gave up 3 runs in 2 innings relief. Gomez got the win going 1 1/3 innings allowing just 1 hit. Headrick went 1 inning with 2 K's.

The when it matters most brilliance of WIN METHOD baseball. Judge walk, Jazz single, Volpe deep fly ball to deep center allowing both runners to advance, Judge scores on wild pitch and Jazz moves to third, Wells grounds out as Jazz scores. Bottom line = one walk, one single, deep fly out, wild pitch, ground out makes for 2 runs, 1 hit, plus 2 productive outs. WIN METHOD baseball rules.
