WIN METHOD 2018 SEASON --- RACE TO THE FINISH LINE

The conclusion to the regular 162 game 2018 season is coming fast.  Ten teams will make the playoffs and the other twenty teams will conclude their season, go home, and watch the ten best teams in Major League Baseball play in the playoffs and try to win their way to the World Series.

The ten teams that reach the playoffs will do so by achieving WINS, with each division winner making the playoffs and then the next two teams in each league who have the most WINS but who did not win any division going to the playoffs.  Five teams in each league.  The three division winners and the next two teams with the most wins in the league as wild cards.

With just about fifty games to be played in the regular season it appears the YANKEES will not win their division and will have to settle for a wild card position as they did last season.  Last season the YANKEES rode their playoff spot to within one game (one more WIN) of reaching the World Series.
Nothing but wins and winning determines the best players and teams, no other stat of any kind for hitters or pitchers make any difference.    Who each team plays in the playoffs are only determined by WINS.  And advancing each round are only determined by WINS.   Nothing else matters, but WINS.

I would like to mention my observations on this 2018 YANKEE team so far this season.  I will not go into injuries because every team has injuries to varying degrees and I find that injuries are part of the game, a part that every team must deal with and overcome to be the best.  The aspect I will talk about is the very distinct lack of hustle, urgency, and even desire I have seen from some players and management.  Jogging down to first base on grounders, not running hard on fly balls and or popups is unacceptable at anytime within the confines of other runners on base.  Hitting a fly ball that you think is going over the fence and would be a home run and jogging down the line only to watch the ball bounce between fielders or off the wall and instead of maybe getting a triple settling for a double.  Any time these events occur and are not addressed by the manager and they continue time and time again a distinct lack of leadership and control is evident.   This attitude and their acceptance must be corrected immediately by all involved.   I have seen and heard from many fans who see what is happening and have voiced their dismay in this blog over and over.   I have been around baseball for sixty years and have never seen this from a YANKEE team.  WIN METHOD fans deserve better as all YANKEE fans should.

LETS GO YANKEES !!!

Thanks Steve. The difference between stat fraud sites and the WIN METHOD blog is stat frauds need to ban posters who show iron clad evidence that stat fraud fake formulas and evaluations are erroneous and useless. Here at WIN METHOD we ban no one and show the stat fraud posts to all. The stat frauds are allowed to post and we all see their utter ignorance in full display.

Stanton's grand slam last night was big and meant the game, but it was set up by Romaine and Robinson RBI singles when the Yanks were down 2-0 and tied the game. Stanton's HR was a 335 foot shot that meant four runs that set the tone of the game for the Yankees. The HR was a million times more important than any solo 450 foot HR by anyone in a game that had already been decided. The meaninglessness of HR distance, exit velocity, and trajectory rears its head.

The problem with this method is that it is hindsight based and not valuable in terms of prediction. If a player has won in the past he is a winner, if he hasn't he is a loser, until he wins. To discount stats and production when rating one player over another ignores everything that would help you predict who will be better going forward. Case in point, Brett Gardner was on the 2009 world championship team (as was Eric Hinske), Mike Trout has not won a world series nor been on many good teams. This method claims Gardner and Hinske are better and "winning" players that you should put on your team before Trout, which is insane. Arod was on bad teams and not a "winner" thus would not have been chosen to be on the Yankees until of course in 2009 he was a winner and played a major role. After the fact we can fawn how he is a winner but he would have not been if the method was adhered to. Can someone help rationalize or explain this to me. Much appreciated!

Allen's Wolfpack... It is obvious you are a stat fraud, and are unable and unwilling to comprehend the WIN METHOD. So you make false statements regarding it. I will not waste the time of WIN METHOD fans here with a long dissertation, but I will run through your false points quickly, your false points equal to fake formulas created by the dumbest fans.
1.Hindsight is what stats are built on and that is what stat frauds use to try to tell fans who the best players are. The WIN METHOD use hindsight to let the world know who the best of the best players are determined by their ability to help their team win. The top third of all players in baseball are those who help lead their team to the playoffs. The more often any player helps his team to the playoffs the higher he is rated, and the rating gets higher for helping his team win the LDS and the LCS and the WS.
2.Garner and Hinske won long ago and there are many players in the past few years who have helped their team to more successes than either. Things are not as black and white as you want to make then out to be. WIN METHOD fans have intelligence and do not need fake convoluted meaningless formulas to determine the best players. Just need to look at what players helped their team reach the highest success over the past two or three seasons.
3.afraud was a cancer to almost every team he played on over his ong career. Great individual stats but played for himself. By no means was he one of the best players in baseball over his career. It is asinine that you look at individual stats to determine the best and then blame other players for the failure of the high individual stat player. Just look at wins and the ability of all players on a team winning together to make the team the best it can be.
4.It takes common sense to be able to rationalize, and the fact that you have to ask for help to rationalize the WIN METHOD, says all there needs to be said about you. Do everyone a favor and don't drag your ignorance on with your nonsense.

I had to laugh last night when I heard the dirtbag espn announcer talk about how meaningless wins are for a pitcher and it is all about their ERA. He was espousing about how deGrom should win the NL Cy Young and only Scherzer is his competition. To put it simple, this simpleton announcer thinks a 7-7 record is fine for a pitcher to be even considered for the Cy Young award much less win it. I guess he would be happy to have all his pitchers be as good as deGrom and all his starters be Cy Young candidates and never have his team ever go to the playoffs. The ignorance of stat frauds is mind boggling. But they always have the teammates to fall back on and blame.

I know right - like why should we evaluate a pitcher based on how he actually pitched?! Makes way more sense to evaluate him based on how his teammates did around him.

You're a smart guy.

coryankee said...

We can only hope that with his extended absence on the playing field and how well his replacement, Austin Romine is contributing to the team, that Gary Sanchez gets his head screwed on straight, gets his priorities straight, and realizes that he has not helped his team with him playing pathetic defense, and batting a disgraceful .188. Sanchez if he comes back producing at the plate like a 'holy terror' and plays significantly improved defense he will be a tremendous asset to the Yankees, as he surely is capable of being.

Henry Orr said...

Babe, are you referring to when pitchers give up unearned runs after a defensive lapse puts one man on base? Or when the defense saves pitchers runs because of outstanding defensive plays in crucial situations? And more.
Baseball is a team game where every player can help a team win any game any time, be it by hitting, running, defense, etc when it counts. Over the history of baseball a pitcher has always been credited with a win or a loss each and every game. When a pitcher earns a win, his team earns a win. When a pitcher earns a loss his team earns a loss. A starting pitchers sole job is to try to win each game he starts. That can be accomplished so many different ways, and ALWAYS with the help of his teammates. Earned run average, WHIP, Home Runs allowed, Walks, Strikeouts, etc are the misleading stats because non by themselves determine if a pitcher wins or loses. WINS are better than anything else in baseball. Only an idiot would rather lose with individual stats than win.

Babe said...

Hank
100% man, it makes way more sense to not even pay attention to how effective the pitcher gets hitter out. I don't get these GMs these days.

I mean look at Severino, he's had trouble winning lately, but it surely has nothing to do with him being less effective at getting people out, like all those "Statheads" will point out. He just needs to remember how to WIN.

Raul Vasquez said...

Henry Orr, pitchers wind up with no decisions many times when they could have easily been the winner or the loser of a game. Your point and I quote it, ". A starting pitchers sole job is to try to win each game he starts.", is the heart and soul of baseball.

Walt Belamy said...

Babe, looking at short term hot or cold streaks, ups and downs, of any player is stupid. A minor nagging ache or pain can cause any player to go sour and then after awhile the worm turn and he gets hot. Judging players on any short term basis is not a good way to evaluate. After a year or two you get a pretty good idea of what players can do to help their team win.
A trade and a change of surroundings have turned some players careers around, some in a good way and some not. Different ballparks, a different hitting or pitching coach that relates and hits on something another coach did not can change a player. Doesn't mean the other coaches were bad, but it may be just someone different building a relationship.
Ask yourself why a pitcher can go seven innings, no runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 10 K's and five day latter get lit up like a torch going 3+ innings, 6 run, 8 hits, 1 walk and 2 K's. Is he a good or bad pitcher?

Domenic said...

Babe, would you want your five starters W/L record as a group be .500 with a 3.75 ERA or .600 and a 4.25 ERA?

Mike Smith said...

Domenic, .600 baseball almost always gets you to the playoffs. Only an idiot would rather not go to the playoffs.

Babe, won't speak for everyone, I'm not a doctor. The WIN METHOD posters to a very high degree are brilliant when it come to baseball and knowing what it takes to win. Glad to see you recognize out smartness.

You din't answer my question.

Larry Kennedy said...

Domenic, remember stat frauds would rather lose with great stats than win with poorer stats. They are a special breed of baseball fan, like keith olbermann, a lifetime degenerate.

Lori Kelly said...

Babe, WIN METHOD fans know baseball, stat frauds don't. That is a major reason why they have to create formulas with their special values and pass treat them as factual.

Luis Cessa (R)
vs. Rays - Jake Faria (R)
1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
6. Greg Bird (L) 1B
7. Neil Walker (S) RF
8. Austin Romine (R) C
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) 2B
Hey hey Torreyes is back and at 2B instead of Torres. That should help, Torres is skidding.

Izy Hernandez said...

Torres has been in a funk. Swinging wildly and appears to have lost confidence. Youth?

NJYANKEE said...

Izy Hernandez, it may be a 'big head' has the talent and wants to be 'the man'. Being the man is for the losers, being a player who produces when it counts, plays for the team to win, hustles, and keeps blooming and growing enabling a long winning career is the way to go. Derek Jeter is the perfect example. The best of the best over his 20 year career.

Babe said...

Why is every time some one struggles it automatically becomes an attitude thing with you guys? Sometimes players just struggle.

Betanance was a headcase last year, now you guys don't mention him at all.

Domenic said...

Babe, twice you evaded my question. I really don't need an answer, there is only one right one. Your evasion tell so much about you.
If you talk to people who know baseball, there is always a reason for getting hot or cold. It is how quickly one can recognize and then fix the problem which then limits there bad spell. Prolonged bad spells are the head cases as the player just nose dives and it affects other parts of their game. Defense suffers, hustle suffers, attitude suffers. The team then suffers. Sad to think about it but stat frauds only look at numbers and realize nothing about the mind, heart, and soul of playing baseball. WIN METHOD found this out decades ago and it has paid off handsomely for the Yankees since its inception by the great one George Steinbrenner. I agree with Izy, I think Torres has reached the point of being a 'head case' right now. Likely why the Yankees brought up Torreyes.

Hobbs said...

Domenic, if Babe answers and selects ERA, Babe defines he/she as a loser who accepts individual stats over winning. Common sense and logic has always buried stat frauds. That is why we all get banned on their garbage forums and they don't get banned here. Here they are just proven wrong and foolish.

Jen Vitter said...

Baseball champions, the best teams and the best players have character, intestinal fortitude, and the ability to produce under the brightest lights and biggest stage. I would like to see the stat frauds formula for that.

Babe said...

Domenic,
Your question wasn't specific enough. For the year in the past would I select the pitching staff that won more? Obviously.

Or do you mean going forward what pitching staff would I expect to win more games? Probably the one that allows fewer runs.

I didn't evade your question, I ignored it because it was stupid.

Nick Polito said...

Jen Vitter, what a great post. If it could only be enblazened into the stat frauds microscopic brains.

Dan Reynolds said...

Babe comes up with a strategic evasion. The answer is always the same. You want .600 pitchers anytime over .500 pitchers.

Earl Lennon said...

Jen Vitter, Hear hear. Very nice. Kudos.

Babe said...

Dan
Is answering a question directly considered "strategic evasion" to you?

You have to choose between two pitching staffs for NEXT SEASON. Pitching staff A had a .550 winning percentage and gave up 1000 runs in 1000 innings. Pitching staff B had a .450 winning percentage and gave up 300 runs in 1000 innings. Who would you pick for next season?

candycane said...

1-1 after 2.

Dan Reynolds said...

If both staffs pitched with the same teams, most likely the winning staff. But I would be looking to upgrade since I do not think .550 would get the team to the playoffs unless they were in the weak and inferior nl. Common sense, winning is always better than losing.

Pierre Jadot said...

Cessa is struggling.

Babe said...

Dan
And that’s a poor choice, the pitchers who give up 1/3 of the runs of the other pitchers are going give you a better chance next year. Use common sense.

White Knight said...

Babe, you went to a wild extreme to try to make a point and you still took the losers. You prove why stat frauds are the dumbest of all fans.

Dan Reynolds said...

Babe, so winning is a poor choice? Only in the stat fraud world.

Babe said...

No one said that Dan. You’re just making up stuff now.

Clearly you’re lost and confused.

Stan the Man said...

Cessa shelled off the field giving up 5 runs in 3 1/3 and putting Yankees in a 5-1 hole.

NJYANKEE said...

Babe, when Dan selected the winning staff in response to your question, you responded back to him with """And that’s a poor choice"" He responded to you again saying ""Babe, so winning is a poor choice? Only in the stat fraud world.""
Then you said ""No one said that Dan. You’re just making up stuff now.""
Case is open and shut Babe, you are wrong. Wrong is a trait of stat frauds. Why don't you just watch the game and maybe learn baseball.

candycane said...

Yanks down 5-1 after 4.

yankeeclipper said...

Gray on in relief in the 5th and stinks again.

Babe said...

Sigh, NJYANKEE
Too bad the excercise was for the year AFTER those winning percentages. You guys must take the same short bus to school huh.

candycane said...

Yankees down 6-1 after 6.

NJYANKEE said...

Babe, exactly, next year was a given. And smart baseball people would take the proven winners over the individual stats. NOTICE, I did say smart, that leaves out stat frauds. Are you living in the real world or do you just make up things to suit your views. Winners are better than losers.

Pierre Jadot said...

Do we have a rally in us?

will-i-am said...

Yanks go down weakly 1,2,3 in 7th.

Babe said...

Yes njyankee I am in the real world, where pitchers who give up 3x as many runs as other pitchers don’t consistently win games.

You should could consider joining the real world yourself.

NJYANKEE said...

Babe, they did in your scenario for an entire season. I know it was something a stat fraud made up and therefor fake, but it was your scenario.
Let me know when a career starting pitcher since 1900 with a losing lifetime record gets into the HOF no matter what his individual stat are. Hank O'Day got in but he pitched only in 1800's. Also, he was inducted as an umpire not a pitcher.

Gary Shrieber said...

Yanks batters except for Andujar look anemic tonight.

candycane said...

Yankees down 6-1 after 8.

Babe said...

NJYANKEE
And the chances of them repeating it the next season are very very remote. But good luck with those guys, I’ll take my pitchers allowing 1/3 of the runs as yours and match them up every day. Let’s see who will win more games then.

You’re also now talking about a completely different subject altogether.

I’m exhausted talking to you and dealing with your complete and utter stupidity.

NJYANKEE said...

Babe, sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. You make up a scenario. You take the losing pitchers and I take the winning pitchers. Then you say your losers will beat my winners any day of the week. Doesn't sound intelligent to me and likey any sane person.

Cory said...

NJYANKEE, doesn't sound sane to me either. The losers will win some games and the winners will lose some games. In the end the pitchers with the better win percentage will win more often than the pitchers with a losing win percentage. Unless some stat fraud created another fake formula that changes that.

will-i-am said...

Final Yanks lose 6-1.

Oscar Hron said...

Rubber game tomorrow at 1PM. Tanaka starter, will he bounce back?

Cory said...

1- 10 5-5
11- 20 6-4 = 11-9
21- 30 9-1 = 20-10
31- 40 8-2 = 28-12
41- 50 5-5 = 33-17
51- 60 9-1 = 42-18
61- 70 6-4 = 48-22
71- 80 5-5 = 53-27
81- 90 6-4 = 59-31
91-100 5-5 = 64-36
101-110 4-6 = 68-42
111-120 7-3 = 75-45

A good ten game set. Need another two or three just as good or better.

Walt Belamy said...

Hard to believe jost four sets left. 42 games. Three quarters of the season done.

Andrew J said...

Yet another stat fraud makes an utter fool of themselves. Love the way the think their losers are better than winners. The funniest part is Babes scenario has never ever come close to happening and never will. And he still lost the discussion.

Babe said...

Njyankee
I picked the pitchers who consistently allow 1/3 of the runs as your pitchers do.

Going forward head to head, can you do the math on that?

Beth said...

Uh are you guys serious? Babes clearly correct here.

Hubert said...

NJYANKEE
I’m sorry but your argument is illogical. How would pitchers who are regularly giving up three more runs an inning than their opponents win with any type of consistently?

Dave said...

Babe definitely won this argument. I think those who are saying he didn’t are trolling.

Boris said...

NJYANKEE
I’m confused by your logic?

If pitching staff A is regularly giving up less runs than pitching staff B, I would want my team pitching behind them. Gives us the best chance to win no?

Can you explain yourself more?

Mikeandike said...

NJYANKEE
Your argument is a bit lacking in logic and common sense. Basic tenants of WINMETHOD!

You should consider rereading from the beginning.

Steve said...

Babe and his maybe cohorts are imbeciles and the stat frauds the most ignorant baseball fans in the world are trying to contaminate the best baseball blog in the world. We here at WIN METHOD will always allow them to post because ready their post illustrates so well their utter ignorance and stupidity.
When anyone tries to tell you that the losers beat the winners, you know you are talking with an imbecile.
WINS AND WINNING HAVE ALWAYS DETERMINED THE BEST TEAMS AND PLAYERS, DO NOW, AND ALWAYS WILL.
Let's all here continue to throw dirt on the stat frauds grave. They are dead fans.

NJYANKEE said...

Mikeandike, You don't know your a from your e about the WIN METHOD tenets. You can't make them up as you go along, they are long established and irrefutable.

Augie Defonce said...

I see the stat frauds are sinking lower and lower. What fools.

MikeandIke said...

NJYANKEE
Yes I am sorry for the small typo. Still think you’re in the wrong here though.

NJYANKEE said...

Mikeandike, No question, you and your friends are sorry..people. You guys are the losers and the WIN METHOD fans are the winners. The winners are always the best.

Terri said...

Looking back at these posts. It seems NJYANKEE was beat and has resorted to personal attacks.

Keep it to baseball discussion guys!

Mike Thomas said...

I don’t see why you’d want a pitching staff that’s going to presumably give up many many more runs and give your team less of an oppportunity to WIN!

Last years W-L record unfortunately has no bearing on next years gamss.

NJYANKEE said...

Mike Thomas, Stat frauds hold their ignorance high. Looking at only individual statistics will blind you. I would always prefer to have a proven winner pitching for me, the higher his win percentage the better. Baseball is played to win not for individual stats. No question some people live by individual stats. They love them in the fantasy game world. In the real world a player only goes to the playoffs and beyond if he can help his team win.

Terri, Calling someone an idiot who is an idiot is more of a fact than a personal attack.

Augie DeFonce, Things must be going bad for the stat frauds at their forums. When people demean winning you know they are not very smart. It's the same as getting rewarded for finishing last.

Evan Donahue said...

Well, if all these low ERA stat fraud pitchers are so good and always have a better chance of winning than the pitchers who actually do win, why don't they all just win more?
I ask this of all you stat frauds. I just like to hear the stat frauds blame the pitchers teammates.
