WIN METHOD 2017 SEASON - INJURIES - PERSEVERANCE - BLOOM AND GROW

Hello WIN METHOD  fans.  This season, as so many youngsters bloom and grow, has had far too many downs.  To be contending for the division title with all the injuries our players and team have sustained is remarkable and displays the character of our players and team.  We will overcome no matter what is thrown at us.

The 2017 disabled list (DL) has included Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird, Tyler Austin, Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Holiday, CC Sabathia, Adam Warren, Aroldis Chapman, James Kaprielian, Gleyber Torres, Clarke Schmidt, and Dustin Fowler.   Several of these players have had their season ended.   For a few of these men recovery will take many months and they can only look forward to 2018.   The others can still contribute this season.  I just want to give a special shout out to Dustin Fowler whose injury may be the most devastating.   I have had a special liking for Dustin for a long time now and I will pray for his healing, full recovery, and return to the YANKEES in 2018.

It is truly hard to believe, that with all the injuries, this team is still right in the thick of the pennant race.   The character of these WIN METHOD players is their crutch, the attitude they display when challenged with adversity is magnificent.
They play with one goal, for the TEAM to WIN.  Everyone contributes, and they win or lose as a team.   The goal is always the playoffs and beyond, in the past, now, and in the future.   These WIN METHOD men will fight to the end.

With every setback, the door of opportunity opens for another player.   Hopefully another youngster will race through the door and seize the chance before they expected.

As WIN METHOD fans, unquestionably the smartest and most knowledgeable baseball fans in the world, we support or team, ownership, management, players, and coaches.   We don't whine and cry, and we don't criticize and blame.
We leave that to, yes you guessed it, the stat fraud losers of the world.

There is most of the season left to play and we will persevere, playing the best we can.   We will continue to bloom and grow.  The draft was wonderful and the WIN METHOD got what it wanted in several draftees.   Our number one selection will be something to look forward to.  LETS GO YANKEES.

WIN METHOD fans and all fans of baseball.

Just want to take a minute to say a little girl was hit in the face by a line drive foul ball this afternoon and has been taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She was attending the game with her grandparents. Lets all say a prayer for her full recovery. No other information regarding her injuries are available at this time because of HIPPA regulations.

Tanaka, Gray, and Monty listed for the weekend series in Toronto.

Joe Girardi's brilliant management of this team, particularly resting players consistently during the season is paying dividends here in September. Veteran players are performing and producing coming down the stretch and helping the team win six consecutive series and still counting.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

YankeeMike, no question. When players produce when it counts make managers look good and Girardi has done a fantastic job keeping players fresh and gibing them the chance to produce and help the team be winners.

Steve said...

There appears to be a great amount of team chemistry right now. Love the thumbs down emotion. Love the no facial hair policy. Glad to see Clint Frazier cut his hair way back, he looks much better than the opposing players long haired maggot infested hippie look.

Erica Johnston said...

Steve, I hardheartedly agree.

Quay Ho said...

Lets take the Toronto series. Keep playing good baseball and producing when it matters.

Frank Sergi said...

Would be nice if Gray starts winning.

yankeeclipper said...

Since coming to the Yankees Gray skies record is 3-6. If the Yankees used a minor league bloom and grow group of 2 or more starters in those games and they reversed the record to be 6-3, the Yankees would be tied for the division lead right now. Gray has not helped this team. Lets see what happens in his next few starts.

bigbadwolf said...

Rating a trade sometimes takes several years. When recovering injured players are traded for an active player especially. More so when the injured are unproven minor leaguers. If either Kaprielian or Fowler develop into a star the Gray trade may turn out to be a very bad one for the Yankees. As of now, with how Gray has performed so far the Yankees are losing. There is still a long way to go before the final result will be determined.

Gus Papa said...

Sonny Gray will have no excuses pitching for the Yankees. The Yankees unlike his previous team are a contender and a winning team. The question will be can Gray step up to the challenge?

Hal Jenks said...

So many good points brought out re Gray deal. As a Yankee fan I will root for his success, as I root for all Yankee pitchers. If he is no better down the road than Nova and or Pineda and either Kaprielian and or Fowler do well it may come back to bite the Yankees.

I had an idea to re-read sections of this blog while watching todays game. I found this post by a WIN METHOD fan and poster from 2009. It is a great primer for new fans here and is gospel. The poster defines baseball. The poster is responding to a likely stat fraud who is nameless.

""""""""""Erica Nuyens said...
I'll take a shot at anonymous(afraid to use his name). What you are missing is we WIN METHOD fans do not care what any individual players stat are. As long as the season results in the playoffs and beyond, it makes no difference what any one players stats are. What you miss, it is not about how much or how many any player gets (except for wins for a pitcher), but when he produces. You erringly assume it is the quantity of what a player achieves that defines him. You would be wrong. It is when a player achieves that defines him. The best players help lead their team to playoffs, pennants and beyond the most often. And these players are evaluated on their role on their team. Therefor, a player can have great individual stats and help his team, while a player can have average stats and help his team just as much. Stats are not how you get there, they are just records of what has been achieved. How much, how many. The end result and the object of the game is the win. The win, in the end is what counts, the stats only document the events in the game. A win by 1 run has the same value as a win by 15 runs, thus nullifying stats to a great degree. What stat frauds do not understand is the value of the win compared to the value of individual stats.

2. The he states he welcomes viewpoints as if his point is valid. His point is in valid and meaningless.

Chris Camp said...

Steve, the 1987 Twins are an interesting example of Win Method logic. They scored 786 runs over the course of their season and allowed 806. That would suggest a 79-83 record, but they overachieved, winning 85.

Cory, the "convoluted BS formula" (as you refer to it) was dubbed Pythagorean Winning Percentage by its developer, Bill James...who's only the foremost baseball analyst of our time. I'll back his thinking over anyone's here, thank you.

The rationale is that, while winning as many games as possible is still the ultimate goal of a baseball team -- which everyone here agrees with -- a team's run differential (once enough games have been played) provides a better idea of how well a team is actually playing.

Of course there will be deviations, both positive and negative. Explanations for these differences vary. Some say it's a good bullpen. Some say "clutch play" (which folks here would probably tend to back). Some say simply chance.

But the evidence shows that over the long haul, scoring more runs than opponents is generally what leads to wins. Simple as that.

I'll leave you with a quote from a USA today article this past May about Brian Cashman. "He not only fully embraces sabermetrics and analytics in all of the Yankee decision-making, but has created a mental skills department and performance-science team."

The latter part is in keeping with what I gather the "Win Method" is about. The former is a broadly accepted part of baseball today. Emphasis on part. It's obviously not all about stats -- but to reject analytics is flat-out medieval.

Thank you for your time.

Steve said...

Chris Camp, I'll address your points one at a time. Paragraph by paragraph.

1.To say the 87 Twins overachieved, one would have to accept because their run differential didn't meet certain standards set by some imbecile that was the reason they overachieved. They did not overachieve they won their division an won the playoffs and won the WS with wins.
That is a FACT.
2.The Pythagorean Winning Percentage is a meaningless useless tool created by jerk who smart baseball fans look on as an idiot. The PWP is false far too many times, however the WIN METHOD has never been wrong. FACT
3.You assume run differential determines how well each team is playing, however only wins determine how well each team is playing, be it for a game, a series, a month, the season. FACT
4.You now attempt to make excuses for the failed PWP and failed Bill James, however the WIN METHOD never needs to make excuses. The WIN METHOD is correct, be it for a game, a series, a month, the season. FACT
5.Logic rules here, so yes it is logical that scoring more runs is better than scoring less runs, but that doesn't guarantee a team making the playoffs or not and then advancing thru the second season. Only wins does that and it has been a proven that a team can win their division and even win the World Series without scoring more runs than the opposing team. FACT
6.An article in a newspaper by some writer does not make your assertion a fact. Front office people love to say things that are not true to hide the real story and throw the competition off. I do believe every manager uses statistics to some degree. We do here also. To use statistics analytically a team looking for a power hitting outfielder need only look at how many home runs each outfielder hits. Now finding the one that can help your team wins and perform under the brightest lights and on the biggest stage that is WIN METHOD rules. FACT
7.Statistics have been used since the beginning of baseball and since the beginning of baseball wins have always and without fail defined who was best. No one here rejects stats, just the convoluted man made meaningless ones that the stat frauds adhere to, live by, and play their fantasy games by. WIN METHOD fans live by wins. FACT

Victor Grandozi said...

Steve, great response to Chris Camp.

Chris Camp, live and learn.

jimbo said...

May I add. No one rejects analytics. Much would depend on how each defines analytics. If someone uses convoluted formulas to define players, yes I would reject that. If someone uses standard statistics used throughout the history of baseball for analytics, of course I would and do use that. In the final analysis nothing is better than wins because wins has never been wrong. That makes wins irrefutable.

Warren Hammond said...

Sure every team use stats of all sorts. But most of teams that use stats lose. There is only one team that uses the WIN METHOD and that team has had more wins, playoff appearances, pennants and World Series success than any other team in baseball. That would make a wise person think that the WIN METHOD is the best tool in baseball.

yankeedoodledandy said...

I hope Chris Camp is not saying that if a team wins several games by double digits and loses twice the amount of games by just a couple of runs, they are a good team.

Gloria LaCorte said...

Lets win tonight and sweep this series. Hopefully Gray can up his game and win more consistently. The lineup is producing when it matters for this run to the finish line and it has earned us the playoffs.

Steven said...

Steve said...

Look who's back. Steven, you mean when posters here respond to a poster showing without doubt how wrong they are it is unwelcoming and unapproachable? You still do not understand, we don't ban, we allow and discuss everyone's opinion. Your forums do not allow diverse opinion and ban posters. Just another FACT.

yankeeclipper said...

Steve, we get banned because the frauds can't handle the truth. They rather believe in garbage. Then they try to make you believe everyone uses garbage. There are some real great factual and undeniable stats out there, and then there are some that are utter garbage. My personal piece of garbage are defensive stats.

Chris Camp said...

@yankeedoodledandy: Anything can happen in a small set of games. No, I wouldn't say that the team in your hypothesis is necessarily a good team.

@Steve: your dismissal -- in your own mind, at least, and the hive-mind of the echo chamber here -- is unsupported by "fact." Please present evidence for the "failure" of the PWP. Please also support your stance on Bill James, voted by TIME magazine as one of 100 people whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world -- and whose influence helped end the World Series drought of the Boston Red Sox.
What you present is DOGMA, sir.

To quote Mr. James: "There are a lot of people who don't understand how statistics work and can't think along those lines and consequently tend to perforce, reject whatever conclusions come out of that line of thinking, and there's really nothing you can do about that. You can, you know, argue to those people for generations, but the only way you could ever possibly convince them would be to reeducate them, which, you know, you don't have time to do that."

Have fun on your Flat Earth!

Steve said...

Chris Camp, How about the 1987 Twins becoming the World Champions of baseball achievement with a negative and meaningless PWP. If something fails to that degree it is meaningless. Time magazine is a feckless piece of garbage. How many times has James influence cost countless teams winning records and failure to reach the playoffs. The quote you attribute to Bill James is a nice piece of prose. The problem is meaningless stats have afflicted many in baseball and they are playing fantasy games and they know little about baseball. Likely another reason posters win different opinions get banned on their forums. The stat frauds are brain dead. Anyone who thinks a statistical formula has more value than wins and winning is living (and oh yes playing in the fantasy world.) Your posts have obviously defined you as a stat fraud and you are always welcome to post here, but you will lose every argument, but you won't get banned. Refreshing, isn't it.

Cory said...

I wonder if the stat frauds believe have the garbage they believe in. I have yet to see any of them ever prove that wins has ever failed and don't get teams into the playoffs and advance thru the playoffs. Yet it has been proven here that run differential has failed.

RLA said...

I see there is a day game tomorrow. Likely Sanchez is DH or sits game out. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all afternoon games.

Todd Barnes-NYC said...

wWow a Bill James team used his stats and they won the WS. How many teams have used his BS stats and failed to get into the playoffs? Cherry picking at its lowest in my opinion.

3. Gary Sanchez (R) C
4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
5. Starlin Castro (R) 2B
6. Greg Bird (L) 1B
7. Chase Headley (S) DH
8. Jacoby Ellsbury (L) CF
9. Todd Frazier (R) 3B
Playoff game type of lineup in my view.

Eddie OConnor said...

This is what happens when you have players deserving of playing and you can only play nine at a time.

Erica Nuyens said...

Do stat frauds really believe the bologna they post and live by? I guess so when you see them play the fantasy league games. That is on them and their inability to learn baseball and winning. They latched on to frauds like Bill James who makes a living off their ignorance.

I think WIN METHOD has helped just one team, the Yankees, attain more playoffs, win more pennants, and win more World Series than any other system or method over the past twenty-five years. End of story.

Lets go Yankees.

Steve
It's really the angry and attacking way you post to people, its extremely offputting.

Also, for the record, I don't believe there is a blocking function on Blogger. You're so proud of something that isn't even an option on Blogger, kind of weird.

Steve said...

Steven, oh you poor little snowflake. You are upset that the truth upsets your apple cart and try to say I'm angry. For the record WIN METHOD and his moderators have the ability to delete any post. They do not delete anything unless it's vulgar or foul. Any opinion is published by everyone. A poster can try to post a illegal post but it will be deleted and the poster is not banned and allowed to continue legal posts expressing their views and opinions. Can't say the same for the corrupt controlled talk forums.

Now lets play some Yankee baseball.

Gray quickly puts Yanks in 1-0 hole.

Gardy and Judge back to back HRs lift Yanks to 2-1 lead after 1.

3-1 Yankees after 2.

Stan the Man said...

Bird HR puts Yanks up 4-1 after 4.

Domenic said...

Gray proving to be a disaster. Gives up 4 run is 5th putting Yanks in hole again 5-4. If any of the guys we gave up for him becomes decent this may be one of the worst deals the Yankees ever made. WIN METHOD was right again.

Yanks23245 said...

Yankees down 8-5 after 5. Lets come back.

Wilsonsway said...

Gray since starting with the Yankees has likely cost this team a chance at the division title.

will-i-am said...

Final, Yanks lose 9-6 as Gray shows nothing again. If Yanks win wild card game and move on in the playoffs, hopefully Gray will not start a game. Best case scenario is he is not on the playoff roster.

Victor Bruno said...

A horrid night from a 4-1 lead to Gray skies and going down because of a weak starter.

Steven said...

Me? I'm not upset at all, just in general don't like you and how you respond to people. Nothing personal, just don't like jerks.

Yankees need one more win to reach 90 on the season. Lets earn it today.

yankeeclipper said...

Steven, you expressed your opinion about another poster by calling him a jerk. But you did not address his point. In the talk forums you get banned for calling another poster a name like you did here. You did not address the fact the poster made 100% true points in his comment to you.

Steven said...

Yankeeclipper
i mean what do you want me to respond- I don't go on many other forums and I certainly am not blocking people. More to the point, I don't really care about any of that, I care about baseball and talking about baseball. Furthermore - if you have respectful conversations about baseball, I doubt anyone would get banned. I can see in the way steve speaks to others, he doesn't show any respect and is rude and condenscening. If you acted like that to people in the workplace, you'd get fired after a while no? Why is it any different?

yankeeclipper said...

Steven, you can't block people unless you are a moderator. Thus your point is moot. I have found all comments on this blog respectful, but that may be in the eye of the beholder. When stat frauds post their opinions here, the are always challenged and shown how wrong their opinions are. All the time. When stat frauds try to use meaningless stats, they get challenged and are shown how wrong they are. Wins are infallible, wins always determines the best. I have never seen posts here that I would fire anyone for in my business. I, as Steve, and countless others have been banned from talk forums for expressing our opinions and have been banned from said forums for our opinions only. I have read the forum from where Steve (winstheonlystat) was banned from and there was absolutely no reason for him to be banned and others before him. There are derogatory post on there now that the clique do not get banned for. If you want to talk baseball fine, that is what I am here for and love it here. The fans here know baseball and about winning. I have found WIN METHOD and his views brilliant. I appreciate the love for the Yankees here and the positive can do spirit. The stat frauds have countless formulas for everything. Their ignorance is overwhelming when you read their posts in their forums arguing each with each other about who has the best fake stat. And their constant ridicule of Joe Girardi, one of the best managers in baseball and their overwhelming admiration for some of the most despicable players in baseball while demeaning the best.

Hobbs said...

yankeeclipper, how about when the frauds try to tell us WIN METHOD fans that according to the WIN METHOD we think Chuck Knoblach was a better player than Ted Williams. The stat fraud ignorance is beyond imagination.

NJYANKEE said...

Bird hit another HR last night. I would still like to see make more solid contact consistently.

Cory said...

I saw run differential mentioned here recently. In my opinion run differential is paramount, but only on a game by game basis. Teams need to win by scoring more runs than their opponent each game. Winning 10-0 is not one iota better than winning 4-2. Cumulative run differential over the season in meaningless. That has been proven to various degrees every season.

Lori Kelly said...

Game time. Lets go Yankees.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Castro with a when it matters RBI single in first that had an exit velocity of 46 MPH. Bird then lines a hard line drive to center for RBI when it matters Yanks take early 2-0 lead.

Steve said...

yankeeclipper, hear hear, I second your post.

Steven, being called a jerk by a stat fraud is a badge of honor. Thank you.

Val Avery said...

NJYANKEE, You called it. Bird with a very well struck hard line drive to deep center plus it meant a RBI.

Steven said...

Wow that was long. If you don't think childish namecalling (which happens here all the time) is disrespectful, then I'm not really sure what you consider disrespectful.

Here's the sad thing, that's one of the longest post on here, and it has nothing to do with baseball. The forum is so overwhelmingly focused on talking about other blogs and people with other opinions, that it shifts the conversation from baseball far too often to be considered the best.

RLA said...

Bird with a another hard hit at bat. Line drive double into the right field corner.

Tony Manchu said...

Steven, your opinion is your alone. Albeit wrong again.

Jill Byrnes said...

Yankees up 2-0 thru four. Tanaka has been brilliant so far.

yankeeclipper said...

Tanaka gives up first hit and base runner in fifth and then picks him off. 15 batters for 15 outs thru five.

Tom Loughlin said...

Steven, if you mean to talk baseball is demeaning and ridiculing players, coaches, management, etc. you will find it on the forums. This is the most positive places I have ever posted except when the stat frauds post and put their baseball ignorance on display.

Gil McKenzie said...

Judge RBI single when it counts gives Yankees 3-0 lead after five.

Vinny Ferrero said...

3-0 Yanks after 5.

Augie Defonce said...

Adam Warren came off the DL today and I would think the Yankees would want him to pitch at least a couple of times this weekend. I wonder if they would use him in this game or surely know they will need him tomorrow because dead man walking Garcia is starting.

Zhaire said...

Steven, yankeeclippers post was dead on right and you could not refute any point of it. Very telling.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Bird is honed in today. Another bullet line drive. This one off the right field wall so hard that he is held to a single but it was another RBI and gives Yanks 4-0 lead.

Steven said...

Zhaire,
What's really telling is that your shifting the focus away from baseball again. Is this a baseball blog or a trash talking blog?

will-i-am said...

Tanaka goes seven full innings and is likely done for the day. What a game 0 runs, 3 hits, 0 walks, 15 K's of the 21 outs. One heck of a game. If bullpen holds Tanaka will earn the win and earn the Yankees their 90th win of the season.

Zhaire said...

Steven, when you post, it appears to be a trash talking blog. 4-0 Yanks after 7.

muchomachoman said...

Robertson in for the eighth.

muchomachoman said...

Robertson with a 1,2,3 8th.

Eddie OConnor said...

Betances pitching the ninth with Yankees up 4-0.

jimbo said...

Betances still not right. Line drive lead off single off the right field wall to start the inning and then walks the next batter. Betances is out and Chapman is called in with two men on and no outs. Betances did more damage throwing to two batters than Tanaka did in his seven innings.

Steven said...

I'm just going to go ahead an nip this back and forth in the bud!

Just got my tickets for next weeks wildcard game! Hope some of you can make it off the blog and out to the stadium!

jimbo said...

Chapman K's Donaldson. Bautista grounds force out short to second. Two outs runners on first and third. Useless Joey Rats take second on defensive indifference. Chapman K's Refsynder. Yankees win 4-0.

will-i-am said...

Final 4-0 win for 90th win of season. Tanaka brilliant, Bird brilliant, Chapman brilliant. One bad, Betances.

okiened said...

Steven, great. Enjoy the game. Hope the Yankees produce when it counts and earn the win.

Another great ten game period. .750 baseball over the last two periods. That is producing when it counts. We are in the second season. Lets go Yankees.

Steven said...

Thanks okiened!

Hope they win too, but I'm really looking forward to just getting out to the stadium and enjoying the game with my friends and family, winning just isn't everything ya know :)

Saul Irving said...

Lets assume we are the wild card team. Lets hope we win the wild card game. Tanaka IF he pitches like he did today gives the Yankees a great shot at winning the first game of ALDS.

Linda Rice said...

Saul Irving, I can live with your scenario.

AAA said...

Garcia starts tomorrow. That should be fun. I'd bet that Warren is first man in from the bullpen.

NJYANKEE said...

Yep, Bird had a solid game today. 2 hits for RBIs is nice. Hit the ball hard and played great first base.
