WIN METHOD - JETER 3000 and more

In the next few days Derek Jeter, the greatest major league baseball player over the past twenty years will reach 3000 hits. Jeter will be the twenty-eighth player in the history of baseball to achieve this feat. Jeter will be the first YANKEE to  reach the 3000 hit plateau. Jeter will be the only shortstop who played his entire career at the shortstop position to achieve this individual milestone. When you consider the names of the great YANKEES of the past, and the miniscule amount of players on all teams who have reached 3000 hits, Jeter reaching 3000 hits is a major accomplishment. Jeter is the consummate professional, no ego, plays for the team to WIN not individual statistics. One of the greatest defensive shortstops in the history of baseball. Second to none on popups, turning the double play, coming in on slow rollers, and vast range in all directions. Jeter is the poster boy for MLB. Never an iota of bad publicity, no steroids, charming, and charismatic. No player in the past twenty years has led his team to as many playoffs, pennants and World Series titles. Those are the true measure of greatness and great players, NEVER meaningless individual stats. WINS and WINNING determine the greatest of the great players of the game. Jeter will be the first to tell anyone who really knows baseball, and is intelligent enough to listen, just that. Jeter plays for the team to win and no player over the past twenty years had done that more or better. Congratulations to Jeter for his individual accomplishment, but more and bigger congratulations for helping his team WIN.

It appears steroids are catching up to Alex Rodriquez. His body seems to breaking down with more and more nagging injuries of every kind. Sad to say, the YANKEES may have made Rodriquez the most overpaid player in the history of baseball.

The second half of the season should be fun in the American League East with three of the best teams in baseball in the same division fighting for the pennant. The return of Jeter, Colon, and Hughes could be the edge the YANKEES need to win it all. Then there is always the possibility making a deal to fill any perceived needs.

WIN METHOD special draft selection Adam Warren started the season at AAA Scranton moving very quickly through the minor league system. Warren is 6-3 so far this season while showing some flashes of brilliance at time. Warren will reach the major league level soon one way or another.

To reiterate to all fans of the WIN METHOD and anyone else who reads this blog. WINS and WINNING determines the greatest players in the game. Individual personal stats do not make a player great, only WINS and WINNING can make a player one of the greatest of all time. The stat geeks when asked why their individual stat player doesn't help his team win, will always respond..it's his team mates fault, if he played somewhere else he would win. In this day and age of baseball any player can go anywhere he wants, IF a team would have him.

What a fine tribute to Jeter. Your the greatest WIN METHOD. Love ya.

RLA said...

Still the best baseball blog there is. Courteous, respectful and right on.

Al Ashton said...

Congrats to Jeter! As Jeter believes, lets win the game tonight, if Jeter gets a hit or not.

Bob Behan said...

Go Yankees, go Colon, go Jeter.

Deb F said...

If Jeter would hit a HR on his 3000th hit and I was lucky enough to catch it, I'd give it to his Mother and Father and thank them for raising one terrific son who exemplified all that is to be a NY Yankee for so many years.

Eddie OConnor said...

WIN METHOD rules the baseball world.

I would love to have a stat fraud explain to me how not winning doesn't make a player the best, but losing does.

Fred Slube said...

Get the win Bartolo. Get 3000 Derek.

bigbadwolf said...

Jeter leads off with a frozen rope double to left center for 2998. Two more for GOD.

Giambino said...

Afraud does it again. Utter dismal failure to drive a man in from third with less than two out. Weak hack at striking out. Get him out of the clean up spot and bat him eight or ninth like Torre did.

Steve said...

Colon has nothing tonight. Worst outing of the year. Down 5-0 thru five.

Steve said...

Yanks go down 5-1. Jeter ends night at 2998. Garcia tomorrow to even series. Bats need to wake up. Arod is a big sink hole in the middle of the lineup.

Gary Long said...

We are not playing good baseball again.

johnsondc said...

Last nights game was just one you are not going to win. WIN METHOD fans know that, 40 games are going to be sure losers and 40 games are going to be sure winners. The other 80 determines the champions.

Harry Stavris said...

We'll let Garcia dazzle them with his junk tonight as Derek goes for 3000/

Izzy Hernandez said...

A perfect example of just how meaningless individual stats are happened twice last night. Once in the first inning and then again in the second inning when each time Arod, and then Gardner could not produce a much needed RBI WHEN it would matter much. Both failed to bring home a runner from third base with less than two out. that would have meant two very early runs that could have changed the complexion of the game. WAKE UP stat frauds.

William Mensom said...

You can see for yourselves just how little character the stat fraud Jeter haters have. Go to any of the talk forum sites and read the hate, the demeaning of Jeter, the negativity of many posters there. These human frauds are unable to comprehend the magnitude of one over the great achievements of baseball history that is about to occur. This is why I post here and read this blog daily. Positive, upbeat intelligent conversation and opinions.

Patricia Piper said...

Thank you William. You hit the stat frauds right on the head and nailed them for the jerks they are.

Eddie OConnor said...

I love the ones on how the Yankees and Jeter conspired to hold Jeter out and even make up his calf strain just so he could get 3000 in the Stadium. Too bad whining snivelers.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Thank God for WIN METHOD and a real no nonsense no BS baseball blog that doesn't demean winning and the best players.

Yankeeforever said...

Two hits for Jeter tonight and then on with the rest of the season. Plus a win.

Quay Hoy said...

I believe in Jeter. The win comes first.

AAA said...

Agree William. that is why I post here now. I got fed up with the down right ignorance of the poster at NYYfns forum.

Linda Pardo said...

Really appreciate the positive salute to Jeter, his baseball talent, and his personal character. Unfortunately there is not enough of that, with all the naysayers trying to tear greatness and accomplishment down. Love this blog, love the Yankees, and love the fans here.

Teena/Bronx said...

William, Linda. Great posts. Raining in NY and the game is questionable.

Victor Bruno said...

Hope we can get the games in this weekend. A lot of people want to be there when Jeter gets 3000 and the Yankees win.

will-i-am said...

Sad about Afraud crashing and burning. He ruined his career with those roids. His 600 HRs mean nothing because he cheated.

Teena/Bronx said...

It's pouring here, no way they can play the game tonight.

Giambino said...

I wonder if they will play a day night DH tomorrow. I guess God wasn't in on the conspiracy theory to have Jeter get 3000 in NY.

Victor Gandozi said...

Tonights rain out has been rescheduled for September 22nd. Now a three game series with AJ vs Price tomorrow. Jeter has only 2 games to get 3 hits or he will reach 3000 on the road.

Steve said...

The two Ray pitchers will be Price and Shields vs. AJ and CC. Should be some great baseball with Jeter looking for 3000 against name brands.

Cory said...

Price was lit up last out. He should rebound from that and be very tough for the Yanks.

Kenny Shepherd said...

The bosux are hot again. We need to keep winning.

Mickey Morch said...

We need to get this game in today so we don't get backed up withmake up games. AJ do it guy.

Mike Smith said...

Afraud went for a MRI on his right knee. Lets see now, hip, knee, and head. He his going down very quickly. Pay back for cheating.

Teena/Bronx said...

Weather good, we will play today. Go Yanks, go AJ, go Derek.

Linda Rice said...

Lets get these next two wins and take the week off.

Warren Hammond said...

Wouldn't it be great if Jeters' 3000th hit was a game winner.

Alex Atonius said...

One hour to game time. Arod out of lineup as roids are breaking him down. Tear in knee. Nunez at third upgrading defense.

Mark Wogaman said...

Swisher is out of lineup also. Now that hurts. We need a great game from AJ and some runs from the lineup.

Kenny Shepherd said...

Get the win guys.

johnsondc said...

The fans screaming and cheering as Jeter approaches the plate. With every pitch, the crescendo gets louder and louder. On the eighth pitch of the at bat against one of the best hardest throwing pitches in baseball Jeter gets his 2999th base hit on a hard hit ball through the left side of the infield into left field. The fans go wild, Jeter needs one more hit. This is the best player in baseball over the past two generations.

sid greenberg,nyc said...

Jeter at 2999 with hit in first.

Linda Pardo said...

Jeter needs just one more.

Kev Mac90 said...

1-0 Rays after two. Get it today Jeets.

Eddie OConnor said...

johnsondc said...

Once again on the eighth pitch of his second at bat Derek Jeter hits a HOME RUN deep into left center field bleachers for his 3000th hit.

Teena/Bronx said...

Jeets does it. Two straight hits for 3000. Love you Derek.

Sharon/NC said...

Jeter opens the flood gates for the Yankees. Jeter is the Captain, Jeter leads, Jeter is the greatest.

This is what Deb F posted two days ago.
The guy who cought Jeters home run did just what Deb F stated. What great YANKEE fans. I am proud to have you all post here.

Mike Smith said...

Jeter four for four with a frozen rope single to right field. What a great day.

Phil Jenkins said...

Jeter continues, now at 3002 and counting.

Victor Tinzik said...

What a great day for Jeter, the Yankees, and the Yankee fans. A player for the ages.

YankeeMike said...

In the post game interview. How many times have we heard Jeter say the win is what counts. Jeter the greatest WIN METHOD player since its inception.

Tom Loughlin said...

A day and a game for the baseball ages. And how about the fan who caught Jeters home run and wanted nothing for the ball. A great great Yankee fan. He will be blessed and you know darn well Jeter will take care of him hansomely.

David Stern said...

Hail Christian Lopez, the fan who gave Jeter the 3000th ball. He has as much class and character as Jeter.

George Steinbrenner is looking down with the biggest smile on his face than anyone can imagine. He today, is the happiest man in heaven. Thank you George for believing in the WIN METHOD.

Erica Johnston said...

Todays game will go down in Yankee history as one of the all time greats. YES will be rebroadcasting this game forever and it will never be forgotten. Great job from Derek Jeter.

Carl Hooks said...

I missed the game, but I will watch replays and highlites over and over. Kudos to Jeter, the best player in baseball. Kudos to the fan who gave Jeter the ball. All class.

Domenic said...

Jeter has earned and deserves every accolade he gets. What a game, what a day for celebration.

William Mensom said...

Being older like WIN METHOD, players come along few and far between as good as Jeter. Integrity, character, leadership, and winning. Only the best can win five WS rings in todays baseball world.

George W said...

A game for the age. It will never be forgotten by Yankee fans.

Stan the Man said...

Jeter aside for a moment. AJ did very well and could have earned the win if Robertson didn't blow it for him. Jeter did step up big time to lead the lineup. Nunez will be an upgrade at third base.

Michail Szenticzcek said...

Jeter is the best and I love the Yankees from very far away.

Vinnie Ferrero said...

Great work Jeter, keep it up.

Laura Koehler said...

With CC on the mound we can win the series today and get back on track. Lets conclude a glorious Yankee weekend winning another game and series led by our Captain who always shows us how to win with dignity and class.

Tony Gigante said...

Now we get down to making the playoffs. CC wins today, we win the series then take a break.

YankeeMike said...

Lets continue the good Jeter vibes and win again today. We raise our chances with Nunez at third.

Zhaire said...

Well done, Captain!

I had tears streaming from my eyes when he hit that HR! I was a really great day to be a Yankee fan, and a Jeter fan. HR and 5 for 5! The only thing that could have made it better is if he hit the triple and got the cycle.

Phil Jenkins said...

Todays game is bigger than most people think. A Yankee win pushes the Rays that much further away from a possible playoff berth with less than half the season to play.

Robert Mandell said...

Nice job by Jeter and the Yankees winning a big game with a lot of history being made by the best player in baseball right now.

Deb F said...

After getting pumped up by Jeter yesterday, CC will dominate and neutralize the lefties in the Rays lineup.
Thank you for the shout out WIN METHOD. I am sure Christian Lopez is a WIN METHOD fan.

will-i-am said...

Big game James Shields is pitching for the Rays. To bad for him he is going against bigger game CC Sabathia.

Steve said...

Shields and CC both look sharp so far. No score after two.

Roger D said...

We had a chance in the bottom of the third but Nunez thrown out at home on fly ball double play. 0-0 after 3.

johnsondc said...

A super game and a big WIN. Yeah, it happened again, three game series the Yankees were out scored, out hit, and out pitched, but those are meaningless stats. In the real world the Yankees won 2 games and lost 1.

Steve said...

Deb F calls it again, and will-i-am is right on target as big game James Shileds pitches a briliant big game, but bigger game CC Sabathia pitches a bigger more brilliant game for the 1-0 win.

Gus Papa said...

Yanks win another series and now take a well deserved break. Start the second half in Toronto on Thursday.

bigbadwolf said...

Nice WIN METHOD win.

Victor Gandozi said...

Very nice weekend for Yankee fans. Everyone enjoy the brief respite.

William Mensom said...

Everyone here seems to be a resident genius' on calling events. Probably has something to do with knowing and understanding baseball and why it is played.

Giambino said...

In the second half of the season I will be looking for us to avenge some of the losses to the bosux. Payback is oh so sweet.

Yankeeforever said...

Sweet. Back to back winning games from the best player in the game reaching 3000 hits and a complete game shutout from the best pitcher in the game.

Eddie Oconnor said...

Rest up guys and take care of those nagging injuries. The rest of the season is before us and we have goals to be met. 28 in 11.

Sharon/NC said...

Hate to say it, but I really believe it. The Yanks will be in good shape to start games after the break with Afraud sidelined. As a team we have had more success without him than with him.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

You are right Sharon. Afraud will not be really missed. A team does not miss a player who delivers minimally WHEN it matters most. He may individually have many home runs and rbis, and he has delivered some big hits over his time with the Yankees, but no more than many lesser known or accepted players.

Alex Antonius said...

I rather have Nunez at third. He can't match Jeter at short but he is better than Arod at third.

Gus Papa said...

We have played around Arod all season. He has surely helped win a game or two, but he has cost us more than what he has helped win. With Arod out of the lineup we do not have to play around him. That has to be a plus.

Bert Jackson said...

Who knows maybe he'll step up when he gets back. Right now lets just keep winning. We are the best.

Harry Stavris said...

After this breakdown, what will go next? Steroids affect different people in different ways.

RLA said...

The stat frauds are in their glory tonight. The home run hitting contest is taking place. What fools.

Cory said...

It will interesting to see how Girardi sets up the rotation after the all break. AJ thursday, CC friday, then ?????????

William Mensom said...

Everyone is worried that Christian Lopez gave the 3000th hit ball to Jeter for nothing. Besides what the Yankees gave Lopez, believe me Jeter will treat him very very well. And Jeter will do it quietly without fanfare and publicity.

Teena/Bronx said...

I was rereading WIN METHODs blog post about Jeters 3000th. The very last line of the Jeter paragraph was brilliant and Jeter proves the point in the 3000th hit game.

Warren Hammond said...

Rest men rest. Back to action in a couple of days.

Carl Hooks said...

Start on Thursday hot and ready to roll.

Patricia Piper said...

It is nice being baseball free for a few days. But only for a few days.

Tom Loughlin said...

Last day off. Tomorrow we finish out the regular season and move on to the playoffs.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

Four game series in Toronto. 3 of 4 will be super.

will-i-am said...

WINS. That is the only thing that counts. Cry statfrauds.

Fred Slube said...

Real world baseball for us in 24 hours.

Robert Mandell said...

OK, now we kick it into high gear. Twelve hours and counting.

Claude Reeves said...

3 of 4 this weekend. Come out swinging.

AAA said...

Manager Joe Girardi gets to set up his rotation to start the second half of the season. He has penciled in Bartolo Colon to start tonight vs. the Bluejays in Toronto.

Gary Long said...

BC had a bad outing last time, could be extra good tonight and earn the wins.

Sharon/NC said...

Jeter will lead us thru the second half and right into the playoffs again.

Stan the Man said...

We also have the advantage of Arod not being in the lineup. The hole in the cleanup spot will be filled and whoever plays third add to our defense.

Vinny Ferrero said...

Hard strike Bartolo. Score some runs guys. Lets get ready for some real baseball.

Quay Ho said...

Score early and finish on cruise control. Get the win.

Steve said...

Horrendous start for Colon. 8-0 Jays after one. A Nunez error, A Gardner misplay, and a few truly garbage Jay hits, capped with a long solid extra base hit. Eight innings to come back.

Steve said...

Tried to come back. cut lead to 9-7, but bullpen was unable to throw constant shutout innings. down 13-7 now. Try tomorrow. Not a good start.

Warren Hammond said...

A game to forget last night. We lost quick. Must rebound tonight.

Mike Smith said...

We have to win the next three to win the series.

bigbadwolf said...

Garcia is going tonight. Interesting since Girardi could have started AJ and then CC these first two games back. Now both AJ and CC have extra rest. Girardi knows what he is doing, and that is what WIN METHOD professes....the men on the field and in the action know best, not the stat fraud second guessers.

Linda Rice said...

I wonder if Colons outing last night will inch Cashman to making some kind of deal. Colon really wan't bad, just had a busload of bad luck in the inning. He had to be very frustrated.

Lee Askew said...

Last night was awful, hope tonight is different.

Bert Jackson said...

Hopefully Bautista can play tonight. I hate playing a team when their best player is down and out. Let Fredy dazzle him.

Jack King said...

Last nights loss was the first time we lost the first game after the all star break in 10 years. Now we havbe to go on a 10 game win streak.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Touching base on more meaningless stats. How about scoring 7 runs and getting trounced. The poor meaningless ERAs of the Yankee pitchers last night and the Jays starter Reyes. Only thing that counted was the Jays got the win and Reyes earned it for them.

will-i-am said...

1-0 Jays after one. That's a lot better than yesterdays 8-0.

David Stern said...

Lost the first two in Toronto, have to win the next two.

Lou Lis said...

CC for us today. If we score a few runs we should win.

William Mensom said...

CC if not the best, very close to the best pitcher in baseball.

Eddie OConnor said...

We are 26=5 in day games this yer and CC is going for us. We should win.

Tony Gigante said...

CC finally gives up a run, but Yanks up 4-1 in the 5th.

bigbadwolf said...

CC earns the win allowing only one run. Yanks 4-1 and another day win. Day game tomorrow and a win only evens the series.

David Stern said...

Peaceful win, but we need to do it again tomorrow.

AAA said...

The game we scored the most runs in, we lost by the biggest margin. More proof stat are meaningless.

Linda Rice said...

CC has been exceptional this year.

Erica Johnston said...

A win today only gets us even for the second half. But it is a day game.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Todays game is a big game for several reasons. We need the win to even the series. Phil Hughes is making his second start since coming off the DL.

Saul L said...

With Hughes going today that will mean the four game series with the Rays will have AJ, Colon, Garcia, and CC in that order.

William Mensom said...

Hughes will be on the stage today and his outing will have a grand bearing on which way the Yankees may have to head.

Al Ashton said...

1-1 after 2.

Stan the Man said...

Hughes putting forth a very respectable effort. Yanks up 5-2 after six.

Victor Gandozi said...

1. Quality start from Phil Hughes. 2. Three innings of shut down relief from the bullpen. 5. Solid run support. = another WIN METHOD win, a series split and on to Tampa.

Ty Keel said...

A very solid outing from Hughes and a pleasant surprise. After two losses earning the series split is great.

Domenic said...

Good solid win and a good solid performance from Hughes.

Mickey Morch said...

On to Tampa and another four game series. AJ, BC, Fredy, and CC for us. Get it done guys.

johnsondc said...

Looks like Hughes may be headed in the right direction. Hopefully Cashman won't do anything stupid as so many stat fraud jerks suggest with their ignorant stats.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

Winning the Rays series may be tough. A road split is acceptable.

YankeeMike said...

The Rays lost a 16 inning 1-0 game last night. Maybe it drained their bullpen a bit giving Yanks some advantage. Pitch wel and score runs and we could take the series which would be great.

Cory said...

The Ray starters in the next four games weren't used last night by them, so they should not be affected by the 16 inning game. AJ just needs to throw hard strikes and dominate.

Frank Sergi said...

I think we have a decent chance of taking 3 of 4 from the Rays. That would surely hurt the Rays chances of making the playoffs.

Deb F said...

Lets get this series off on the right foot and win the opening game tonight.

will-i-am said...

Do it again AJ. Control the game. lets go lineup.

RLA said...

Gotta give credit to the domed stadiums. You don't get rained out. Go Yankees.

Roger D said...

Start off strong and get the win tonight.

Vladimir Tinzik said...

Win one at a time for four games.

Steve said...

AJ starts off on empty and puts Yanks in hole. 3-1 Rays after 1.

Giambino said...

A true WIN METHOD win last night. After a rough first inning and battling through several innings AJ Burnett kept his team close enough to have a chance in the late innings. With Noesi, Robertson, and Rivera finishing off the last 3 2/3 innings in shutout fashion, the Yankees came back from 4-1 down, to 4-2, to 4-4, and then 5-4 scoring the winning run in the 9th inning.

Phil Jenkins said...

Hard win last night. Need to keep it going and win again tonight. BC is do for a really good game.

Yankeeforever said...

Colon needs to step it up and get back to his April/May form.

Ty Keel said...

Do it BC. Do it better than AJ.

Tom Louhglin said...

Two more wins for the Yankees in this Rays series could be a crushing blow to the Rays playoff hopes.

Ed V said...

Go Bartolo. We need you.

George W said...

Get the win, and keep winning. Nothing else counts.

Cory said...

Lets do it BC. Give us one of yuuour good ones.

Eddie OConnor said...

Just keep playing WIN METHOD baseball and all will be fine.

AAA said...

No score after one. Lets get the win.

Warren Hammond said...

Strike Bartolo. Earn us the WIN.

johnsondc said...

Colon has been strong. 2-1 Yanks after five.

Steve said...

One heck of a tough loss last night. Take the positives. Colon was great and back in the fast lane. The bullpen was solid, as usual. Unfortunately the intangibles went against us and an error by Logan was the difference. Biggest concern, not enough runs scored, but we went against a top pitcher.

Victor Gandozi said...

Very true, a very tough loss. Bounce back tonight.

Benny Pake said...

Garcia tonight. He had a bad game last out. Return to form tonight?

Ted Lilly said...

Can we win tonights game by a few runs? please.

RLA said...

Jeter and Granderson deliver. 2-0 Yanks after 1.

Steve said...

Yanks roll 4-0. Garcia great again, while the bullpen perfect one more time.

Tom Louhglin said...

You can't lose when your opponent doesn't score a run. CC tomorrow for the series. Be there again CC.

William Mensom said...

Watching Garcia pitch last night brought me back flashes of pitching is all about. Confusing the batter. Not just shear speed and over powering him, but fooling him. As Garcia puts a few men on base you are are waiting for the hammer to drop, and Garcia pitches his way out of trouble over and over. It was a pleasure watching him pitch last night.

Lee Askew said...

Nice post William. I love to read your posts. Now we have CC today and hopefully he can get a win.

Bert Jackson said...

A win today and we have a 5-3 road trip against two quality AL East teams. I can live with that. Do it again CC.

bigbadwolf said...

Still Baseball's best blog. The WIN METHOD rules baseball blogs. Integrity, honesty, and common sense. No fraudulent meaningless stats, just winning.

AAA said...

Stat frauds beware. The WIN METHOD will bury you with logic, reality, and common sense.

Hank B said...

Finish off the roadie with a win.

Kevin Mac said...

Do it again CC, you have a chance to win 25.

YankeeMike said...

The last time Shields and CC met it wound up a 1-0 Yankee win on an unearned run.
