WIN METHOD and the SECOND SEASON

Take heart WIN METHOD fans. This is not the end of the world or even signs of trouble. First, we have made the playoffs. The sole goal for every team over the 162 game regular season schedule should be to make the playoffs. Everyone plays an unequal biased schedule with some teams having it easier than others. But, that is the way the present day MLB schedule is constructed. One winner in each division and the 2nd place team with the most WINS make the playoffs. Everything comes down to and is based on WINS and winning. Nothing else matters, no individual stats (except for WINS and Saves by pitchers). Not how many HRs, or runs scored, or BAs. Only WINS. WINS determine the best players and teams over the 162 game schedule. What I am getting at is it makes no difference whether or not you win your division or are the wild card. The four teams all go to the playoffs. The playoffs are where the 'second season' begins. As a team you win your first series and you move to the next, you lose you go home as one of the eight best teams in baseball. Sadly the far inferior national league teams are given equal value equal to the much superior American League teams. Some American League teams do not go to the second season even though they are better than the national league teams who do go to the playoffs. Being the wild card is not so bad and even may be a blessing to a quality American League team. It just might raise the awareness level and stir up the competitive juices of the wild card team. As a wild card team, yes you are a great team, but there are other great teams with the same goal as you, the WORLD Championship. The title WORLD CHAMPION 2010 can only be earned by winning and WINS. Absolutely nothing else matters, no matter what you may hear from brain dead talking heads and the stat fraud fools of the world, who live and die with their fantasy world. In the real world, only WINS determines the best of the best.

I was just posting in the previous blog and saw this blog pop up.
Thank you for keeping me focused and looking at the big picture WIN METHOD.

Erica Nuyens said...

I don't believe it, someone actually beat me to being first to respond to your blog WIN METHOD. Never the less, great blog and thanks for helping keep our eye on the ball. Love ya.

Bill Behan said...

You just buried the stat geeks and baseball talking heads WIN METHOD. Winning means nothing to them. They are the ones who give Cy Young awards and MVP titles to guys who help their team finish last.

Deb F said...

I would still like to win the division, just for home field advantage. But in reality, that may not even be that significant over a very few games.

Vinny F said...

I think you are right Bill. How can any player be an MVP for helping your team the most, NOT WIN????

Giambino said...

With all that is presently happening with the Yankees right now, Girardi has and is doing a more than splendid job getting the Yankees ready for the playoffs. don't be surprised if the Yankees click on all cylinders starting the playoffs, which for all intent and purposes they have clinched a spot in.

Nick Polito said...

If we lose today we could go into Tampa trailing them for the division crown. But as WIN METHOD states, it really doesn't make that much difference going to the playoffs first or second, but maybe for bragging rights. And they won't last long if you are knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.

Harry Beisenett said...

Great post WIN METHOD. Maybe we will get rid of all our bad karma before the playoffs.

Linda Pardo said...

OK lets beat Lee. Moseley over Lee, that will upset the stat fraud applecart.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Another loss today. Lee was superb for Texas and Moseley did all that could be expected of him for the Yankees. We go to Tampa for three and whoever wins the series will be in first place. As WIN METHOD has said, it really makes no difference since both the Yankees and Tamps are going to the playoffs.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

A couple of bright spots in todays game. Moseley looked real good and Jeter had quality at bats with a RBI double to right and two walks.

Ollie said...

Interesting Texas series. I wonder how it would have turned out with CC, Andy, and Ivan starting the three games. I would think both Tampa and the Yankees want to finish first. But with both knowing they are in the playoffs, the game pressure just really is not the same.

Jerry Curcio said...

Nice post WIN METHOD. That's telling it like it is. The lost weekend is over. We are still in first. Now to handle business with Tampa. Choo choo CC.

bigbadwolf said...

Wins is why baseball is played. All players on a team contribute in one way or another to winning and losing. The players of the teams in baseball who win the most and qualify their team for the playoffs are the best in baseball. No stat but wins tells you that unless you are a fool stat user who thinks a player who helps his team miss the playoffs is better than a player who helps his team make the playoffs.

George W said...

The Yankees and Tampa play seven more times this regular season. What you have are the two best teams in baseball playing for first and second in the best division in baseball, with one of the two not going to the World Series.

Sharon/NC said...

I love this blog and the wisdom and intelligence of the WIN METHOD. The best always win and to think otherwise only displays the naysayers ignorance.

Ted Lilly said...

Throw in being able to play the biggest games on the biggest stage and win with consistency and you have the best and greatest players of their era.

Paul Hirschman said...

A battle of the two best lefties in baseball tonight. CC vs. Price should be a great game.

Carl Hooks said...

Another brutal loss, but a great game.

YankeeMike said...

This is exactly why this blog is the best in baseball. Astute intelligent fans who know baseball.

This is what Paul posted before tonights game...."""A battle of the two best lefties in baseball tonight. CC vs. Price should be a great game."""...Right on the money. This blog is always right on the money.

Bert Jackson said...

Both starters were fantastic. Both teams played great, but one had to lose. Tomorrows another day.

johnsondc said...

At least Mitre made it short and sweet, and hopefully pitched himself off the post season roster.

Mike Smith said...

What a game. And yes a tough one to lose. Rather lose several games now and make them up in the playoffs with a run of three consecutive series wins.

Victor Bruno said...

The last three weeks of the regular season and the division title is at stake. Important? maybe a little. Making the playoffs is the highest goal. Then go from there.

Pete H said...

Nova will get his shot at earning his way into the playoff rotation. Lets see what he can do, WHEN it counts.

Linda Pardo said...

The Yankees were the last team in baseball to lose four straight games. Now not to make five tonight. Go Ivan, earn a rotation spot.

Sean Smith said...

Lets take back first place tonight.

Tom Loughlin said...

No runs in eleven innings yesterday, four in the third today. we want this win.

Steve said...

Back to back great games between the two best teams in baseball. So they have played 21 innings over the last two days and the score is 8-8. WOW!

Teena/Bronx said...

Back in first place, but it wasn't easy. The best the sports world has to offer. Just end the season now and have Tampa and the Yankees play a best of 21 World Series.

Giambino said...

Rubber game tomorrow. Winner leaves with first place. The best news, Jeter is back.

Harry Beisenett said...

What a nice throw by Golson to end the game. WIN METHOD baseball without the bat or individual stats. there is far more to great baseball than just stats. Heart, desire, and intangibles make for greatness and the best.

Gus Papa said...

Hughes tonight in the rubber game. Hughes may also be pitching for a spot in the playoff rotation. Girardi has all so many options and ways to go. The staff is rested with extra days off this month. If Hughes goes to the bullpen for the playoffs, the games could come down to 5 or 6 inning games for the starters. With Hughes, Joba, Robertson, Woods, Logan, and Mariano easily able to easily pitch a quality inning a day we should be more than ready.

Teena/Bronx said...

Over the past 21 innings the Yankee pitchers only gave up runs in 2 of the 21 innings. One 1 run inning and one 7 run inning. That is 19 other scoreless innings. Hughes winning tonight will be a big boost to the team. Just bring some bats guys.

Fred Slube said...

What was nice about last night, was slapping Garza around. Nova cracked in the 5th inning, but he is only 23 years old and still learning and maturing. Go Yankees.

Al Ashton said...

Can we keep first place. Hell YES we can.

Nancy Logan said...

Win the division guys, the the WS.

Vctor Gandozi said...

Another tough loss. Three one run games by the two best teams in baseball with first place changing three times.

Carl Joyner said...

All quality WIN METHOD games. Great plays by great players. In the 9th inning three Yankees worked the count with each getting at least two balls and two strikes. Then there's Arod at bat, strike one, strike two, strike three. No contact and no fear from the pitcher.

Dana M said...

Austin Kearns cannot be on the post season roster. No way, no how.

johnsondc said...

Four more games with the Rays next week in our ballpark. We'll see what that brings forth.

Stan the Man said...

One day of rest and then 13 straight games for the final drive to end the season. Just think WIN METHOD fans. We played three one run games in Tampa with 2/3 of our outfield on the bench. No excuses, just a fact.

bigbadwolf said...

Wasn't that a great reaction by Jeter on the inside pitch that hit the bat and would have been an infield out. The ump calls a hit by pitch. Jeter goes with the call and plays it to the hilt saving an out and putting a man on first base. Brilliant baseball acumen and thought process in trying to help his team. The definition of a WIN METHOD player, not playing for yourself, but to help the team win.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

We are coming to that time of year where all the high individual stat players who help their team lose and their stat fraud supporter friends can whine, ""it was my team mates fault.""
In the mean time, the truly great WIN METHOD players head to the playoffs.

WIN METHOD said...

Bingo Sid. You nailed it. Always blame the other guys on the team. Winning is why baseball is played. Winning is the desired result and goal of the game. To rate anyone or any team on anything other is foolish. Foolish...oh yes, we are talking stat geek frauds.
That is the great part of loving the WIN METHOD. You can look someone in the eye and state....My guy is the best in his roll on the team, he is the champion.

Steve said...

The stat geeks don't believe in winning or champions. They live in their fantasy world of ignorance and losing.
AJ vs. Millwood tomorrow. Get it going AJ.

Sandro Icavor said...

Yes WINS determines all. If we WIN more games than Tamps to finish the regular season we WIN the division. Not complicated stat fools.

Vinny F said...

One game at a time. Take each series, and we should win the division. Five series left. 10-6 or 11-5 would be fine.

Linda Pardo said...

Start the run to end the season with a win tonight. Joe resting the injured and bringing them back when they are ready is what makes the Yankees better than the rest.

Giambino said...

Hopefully the bats wil start to wake up WHEN it counts. Lets try an sweep the O's.

Erica Nuyens said...

The final run to the finish line WIN METHOD. Love ya.

YankeeMike said...

Another one run game. Arod wins the day. the Rays lose, back in first place.

Carl Joyner said...

It was nice to see Arod being part of the team again and contributing WHEN it counted.. CC tonight for his 20th.

Zhaire said...

It ain't over yet, but it looks like CC will get his 20th win for the team.

johnsondc said...

Welcome Zhaire. CC does get his 20th and the Yankees slim hold on first place is still that, slim. Pettitte today. Go Andy.

Phil Jenkins said...

Just as long as Pettitte doesn't get re-injured. Build arm strength and control. Six innings today would be more than splendid.

Les Kirkman said...

If the bats perform like yesterday, Pettitte will not need to be perfect. Just take it easy and build on each start so as to be ready for the playoffs.

RLA said...

We took this series, and a sweep would be perfect. One win at a time.

Hans Vogel said...

Very entertaining and interesting blog. I believe in winning.

Frankie Sergi said...

Andy was dandy. What a nice return, for Andy and the team.. Looking good fans.

William Mensom said...

Another dreadful loss. I personally think it is foolish to manage your bullpen as if it was a playoff game against a team with no pressure on them.

Teena/Bronx said...

No cushion now against Tampa. The Rays loss keeps us on top, barely.

Claude G said...

A very disappointing loss today. Not enough hits WHEN it counts are keeping the opposition in the game and that is the sole reason we are not ten games in front. Saving it all for the playoffs?

Ollie said...

Nova gets to start game one against the Rays. would love to win three or four.

Warren Hammond said...

Isn't one of the WIN METHOD tenets to build and learn from failure. With the loss Sunday in Baltimore that should be a great learning experience. It is better for Mo to blow a save now than in the playoffs.

Gus Papa said...

Can you imagine how these last two weeks would play out if only one team were to make the playoffs?

Giambino said...

It would nail biting, edge of your chair game after game. But when two teams win as many games as the Yankees and Rays have, they should both go to the playoffs, and they are.

Linda Rice said...

If I am correct but I think four starters are needed for the playoffs this year, with less off days. Nova could still be pitching for the fourth spot tonight. Go Ivan.

Carl Hooks said...

Nova will probably make the rotation for next year. Vazquez can be number 6 backup and in the bullpen in blowouts.

Bill Behan said...

Do it again Ivan. Strut your stuff and earn the WIN.

johnsondc said...

Magnificent memorial and tribute to George Steinbrenner, his family, the Yankee organization, the team, and the fans tonight in Yankee Stadium. The greatest sports franchise and team ever, in any sport.

Yankeeforever said...

Game one of four in the bank. Nova does very well. Jeter is all the way back with game winning hit. Hughes in game two tomorrow.

RLA said...

You have to give credit to the Rays, they don't make it easy for anyone. bosux lose, they are finally toast.

Seth Greene said...

Good win last night. Great if Hughes can repeat last fine effort, but with a different final result. The drive to the finish line continues.

Vinny F said...

Lets WIN game 2 tonight. We are the champions.

Harry Stavris said...

Make it two in a row guys. Beat them Rays.

Frank Sergi said...

What a gutsy performance from Hughes earning the team a win and earning him his 17th win. Keep the pressure on the Rays with a big game from AJ tonight.

Teena/Bronx said...

It truly was a great ceremony honoring Mr.S. last Monday. The Yankees do things right and it makes one proud to be a fan of the greatest team in the world.

Ollie said...

How sweet would a win tonight be....take it to them, score early and often.

johnny said...

Go Yankees.

Howie C said...

Big game from AJ tonight. Keep up with the other starters.

Bernie S said...

Put a stake through th Rays heart AJ. Time to dominate.

Giambino said...

Rain destroyed what was looking like a very nice pitching matchup. Girardi played it smart, resting his pen and using the guys who will probably not be going to the post season. CC to take the series tonight.

Ben S said...

Can CC and price do what they did last time they faced each other? CC for the win tonight and ice Tampa.

RLA said...

I will state this as simply as I can. If we win tonights game, we will win the division for sure. If we lose, we still may win the division. Rock on CC.

Steve said...

I agree RLA. Win this game and the division is ours. This is almost like the 7th game of a WS, except that both teams are going to the playoffs and the game in that respect doesn't mean much. a win would be great, but it is not mandatory.

bigbadwolf said...

Hey stat frauds, how many of your high individual stat guys are going home to watch the playoffs??? Oooops, I forgot, it was their team mates fault. WINS and only WINS determines the best, you fools.

Gus Papa said...

It's game time for real baseball, the best against the best. The stat frauds are playing their fantasy league games and telling themselves how great their loser players are.

Harry Beisenett said...

CC has nothing and muddles thru six innings getting blown away by the Rays. Price has little but guts out the win. Four game split, what did you expect.

Carl Hooks said...

No loss is a good loss, but some are better than others. Losing big is better, losing by a rn is bad. Nine more games to settle the East.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

We played the last four with the Rays and nothing was lost or gained by anyone. The big thing is to get prepared for the playoffs and finalize roster decisions. Pettitte tonight. He can be the key to the playoffs.

Eddie OConnor said...

All we can do is keep winning games, one at a time, organize the roster selections and win the playoffs.

Claude G said...

Most important is that Andy builds arm strength and endurance to be effective in the playoffs. If we win that is a plus.

Harry Beisenett said...

The YES network web site is writing how hard it will be for the Yankees to win the division over the next 10 days. Oh yee of little faith, confidence, and wisdom.

Mike Smith said...

Winning is done on the field, not on paper or fantasy games. Go Andy, Go Yankees.

johnsondc said...

Much of our future fortune will be decided with whether or not we hit in a timely fashion. In WIN METHOD terms, WHEN we hit will determine the results we get.

Redsoxfan6 said...

If we take all 6 games from the Yankees, we will be in the playoffs.

Pete H said...

A plague on you bosuxer.

RLA said...

Michael Kay did say last night that Girardi and the Yankees would like to win the division but their priority was to organize and the rotation and plan the roster for the playoffs.

Gus Papa said...

Hopefully Pettitte built up some arm strength and endurance. His pitches last night were very flat with no bite. But this is a spring training replay and with another start and bullpen sessions he could be our biggest asset for the playoffs.

Redsoxfan6 said...

1 down 5 to go.

David Stern said...

Lets see how our shining star, Nova, does against the bosux and their ace, Lester. Nova can pitch his way onto the post season roster.

Harry Beisenett said...

I would love to see Nova out pitch Lester and earn a win. Still need hits WHEN it counts.
