Mr. S. --- The BOSS

World champion New York YANKEE owner George Steinbrenner passed away today at his home in Tampa, Florida. The greatest owner the game of baseball has ever known or will ever know leaves a legacy of winning and World Championships over his ownership era, second to no one. Mr.S. who had the wisdom to see the WIN METHOD as the greatest tool ever created in baseball for evaluating and finding some of the greatest talents to ever play the game and the wisdom to fund and use this tool to make the YANKEES of the past decade and a half the greatest sports team in the world. Mr.S. took a 10 million dollar investment, and built the greatest and richest sports franchise in the world. His continuous and never ending reinvesting of his profits to continually build and get better is an ear mark of the free enterprise system that has made America the greatest power in the world. I wish to offer the Stienbrenner family my warmest condolences, with all YANKEE fans a tear of sadness, all WIN METHOD fans a cheer for having the wisdom of being the smartest fans in the world. I have lost a friend and partner and am very sad, but as Captain Derek Jeter stated today, 'we must rejoice in what "the boss" has done for us and baseball and celebrate his life.' Hail the Boss, the Boss is dead. Rest In Peace Mr.S. We will have another beer together in heaven.

Hope Hal and Hank are half the man their father was. Condolences to the Steinbrenner family.

YankeeMike said...

George went out on top. Lets continue his winning legacy, led by the captain Derek Jeter.

Giambino said...

Just to make a point. If Mr. Steinbrenner ran the country instead of the scum who are now, we would still be the greatest country in the world. I'll miss you George and I loved all you did for the Yankees and baseball and charity.

Ken S said...

Thanks Mr. S. You are the greatest.

I'm listening to Rush and remembering the BOSS. Great minds both. Goodbye BOSS.

Rush and Mr.S, wouldn't that be great to have dinner with those two and talk.

Steve said...

Will you be going to the funeral WIN METHOD?

Stan the Man said...

George Steinbrenner was a hero and a champion in more ones than you can count. RIP George.

Wayne Littlebear said...

My condolences and best wishes to the Steinbrenner family on their loss.

Norm P said...

I heard the funeral will be small and only for the immediate family. I don't think George would want to hold up or cause problems for his players.

Phil Jenkins said...

Thank you Mr. Steinbrenner for all you have done.

Ken S said...

The BOSS created a legacy of winning. Lets continue that legacy starting tonight and for the rest of the year and earn 28 in 10. The BOSS would like that.

George W said...

There is no inheritance tax in 2010. This will save the Steinbrenners almost a billion dollars.

Maybe George is up there with a big smile knowing that.

And knowing that he saved the most famous sports franchise in the world, and turned a 10 million dollar investment into a multi billion dollar empire.

If he meets up with the Babe, Lou, Joe, the Mick, Thurman, Scooter and the rest, we know who will be buying the round of beers.

Fred Slube said...

Thanks WIN METHOD for giving Yankee fans a chance to thank Mr.S. in words. And thank you Mr.S. for all you did.

Linda Pardo said...

Here is one of my favorite quotes from the BOSS.
"""Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing...Breathing first, winning next.""" - The Boss... Rest In Peace.

Steve said...

That quote sure seems to show why the BOSS loved the WIN METHOD so much. When the BOSS and WIN METHOD partnered the winning was a constant and still is. Thanks BOSS.

Will Bentley said...

And thanks WIN METHOD. Now lets go out there tonight and WIN

Teena/Bronx said...

The Yankees win for the Bob and the BOSS.

Phil Jenkins said...

Swisher gets the pie. Big hits in the 8th and 9th win the game. Another Yankee classic game to honor the passing of Mr.S.

Giambino said...

The BOSS is smiling from above.
Theeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeees WIN!

WIN METHOD said...

The new YANKEE Stadium, the 'HOUSE THAT GEORGE BUILT', now has its own pair of ghosts to lead the way into the light. All hail the newest ghosts. All hail the YANKEES.

Sharon/NC said...

This is from the Associated Press..and is apropos.

Mariano Rivera laid two long-stemmed red roses across home plate. Tears filled Joe Girardi's eyes. Derek Jeter's face was flush with emotion.

As fans stood through "Taps" and a 2-minute moment of silence, the 27 World Series championship flags that George Steinbrenner cherished with all his might could be heard flapping at half-staff toward center field from the top of Yankee Stadium in the stiff breeze.

The New York Yankees celebrated the life of "The Boss" with a solemn 15-minute pregame tribute Friday night that included an vivid remembrance from Jeter, spoken to the crowd of 47,524 from behind the plate before. New York then paid tribute by rallying to beat Tampa Bay 5-4 on Nick Swisher's ninth-inning single.

"We definitely wanted to win that game," Swisher said. "That was definitely his day."

Steinbrenner, the team's driving and blustery owner, died Tuesday, two days after the death of Bob Sheppard, Yankee Stadium's longtime public-address announcer. New York returned home following the All-Star break to mark what both meant to a franchise obsessed with its tradition.

"We gather here tonight to honor two men who were both shining stars in the Yankee universe," Jeter said as teammates and the Rays stood ramrod straight, caps off, in front of their dugouts. "Both men, Mr. George Steinbrenner and Mr. Bob Sheppard, cared deeply about their responsibilities to this organization and to our fans, and for that, will be forever remembered in baseball history and in our hearts."

The new ballpark, opened last year in one of Steinbrenner's final acts, could not have been quieter. Yankees executives in business suits watched somberly from behind the plate.

"Simply put," Jeter said, "Mr. Steinbrenner and Mr. Sheppard both left this organization in a much better place than when they first arrived. They've set the example for all employees of the New York Yankees to strive to follow."

johnsondc said...

The comments expressed here show why this is undoubtedly the #1 Yankee and baseball blog site in the World. The fans who come here to read and post are the greatest fans there are. A standing ovation for all of you.

David S said...

One game at a time. A win today would be fine. Keep the line rolling.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

A very exceptional Old Timers Day today. Mickey Rivers hits a walk off one hop double off the right center field score board. The Yankee organization is all class and the greatest in the world.

Vinny F said...

It looks like the rubber game and series winner will be decided tomorrow. Andy is the man.

Bert Jackson said...

You can't win them all, but tomorrows game would be a real nice one to take.

Warren Hammond said...

WIN today and send the Rays packing.

William Mensom said...

AJ expects far to much from himself. He needs to clear his mind and just pitch. He can't win all the time and he can't be the best all the time. Unfortunately, that is what he expects from himself.

Teena/Bronx said...

Can someone be 'to much of a competitor'?

Giambino said...

Take charge Andy and shut the Rays down. You are a big time HOFer.

johnny said...

Sorry about the BOSS, I love the Yankees.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Tough break for Andy with the groin strain, but a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP game from the Yankees. See ya Rays.

Giambino said...

Solid win today. Girardi may have won the game when he brought Robertson in to replace Pettitte. It turned out to be a winning move.

Victor Gandozi said...

Andy may be out a month or so. Could make him stronger for the September push and playoffs. Looks like Mitre will take his spot for now. Nice win yesterday for the team that doesn't quit. Keep the wins coming.

Sandro Icavor said...

One thing I love about fans here compared to the BS talk forums, nobody whines and cries. Pettitte goes down, we play through it and someone fills the spot. Other guys step up and we continue to win. That is the WIN METHOD and the team before "I" or "me".

Alan James said...

I second you Sandro. Also, the ceremonial weekend ended on a high note with the trouncing of Price and the Rays. Rest today and win again tomorrow.

Stan the Man said...

There will be a public ceremony for Mr.S. shortly down the road.

Linda Pardo said...

This is the greatest Yankee blog I have ever come across. I love it.

Bert Jackson said...

A day off, then back to business. We can't be caught if we keep winning.

Victor Bruno said...

Hughes gets his first start since before the All Star break. Hope he brings his game to the table. WINS for 28 in 10.

Dan said...

Big one from Hughes tonight.

Stan the Man said...

With Pettitte down, let the bat people lift their game a notch and help carry the load.

bigbadwolf said...

The perfect storm. Hughes had nothing, the Yankee bats had nothing, and The Rays and bosux both lose tough one run games. Even when we lose life can be sweet.

Benny Pake said...

When you lose, last night is the way to lose. Javy sets us straight today.

Phil Jenkins said...

Nice win today. Javy lost his stuff, but earned the win as the bats came alive.

Vinny F said...

Gardner get thrown out of the game after contesting a pitch. Colin Curtis pinch hits for him starting off with an 0-2 count and hits 3 run home to ice the game Sweet.

Redsoxfan6 said...

When you really think of it, no stat in any sport of any kind is more important than a W for a win. Great blog Yankee fans, no wonder you are the best in the world.

johnsondc said...

You got that right bosoxer. Welcome to the best baseball blog going.

Steve said...

Good game yesterday from the team. At least 3 of 4 from KC this weekend.

Sharon/NC said...

CC should get us off to a flying start tonight in game one of a four game series. Do I see a broom being broken out?

Cory said...

One win at a time, one game at a time. CC tonight and the bats boom.

Teena/Bronx said...

I'll be at the game tonight, looking for another win.

Eddie OConnor said...

CC had poor game, for him. Yankee bats explode for easy win.

Dana M said...

AJ gets another turn tonight. KC proved it won't be easy as they are a solid hitting club with little pitching. Good test for AJ.

Giambino said...

With Pettitte out for a while, it would be great for AJ to step up and take charge.

Kevin H said...

Just keep winning. AJ needs to get his head straight.

bigbadwolf said...

Teena, since this blog started, have the Yankees won every game you have attended in the Bronx?

Yankeeforever said...

Lets get ready to win and Arod get 600th.

Victor Bruno said...

AJ + big bats = another WIN.

Warren Hammond said...

Solid win last night AJ looked good, the pen was great and bats had enough pop. Keep it going today and tomorrow.

Steve said...

Hang in there Redsoxfan6, you can still catch the Rays and make the playoffs. When baseball fans learn that the only thing that counts is winning and winning declares who the best players are, then the fans will know baseball.

Eddie OConnor said...

We get Sergio Mitre today. Wasn't it just about this date last year, Segio threw a superb one hit no run game on a Saturday in July. Or something like it.

Teena/Bronx said...

Yes bigbadwolf, for two years I have been to 11 games at the old and new Yankee Stadiums and have never seen the Yankees lose.

Erica Johnston said...

Maybe we should buy you tickets to every game Teena.

Phil Jenkins said...

Eddie. aug 29 last year Mitre pitched 6 1/3 innings one hit ball against the White Sox.

Sandro Icavor said...

A win this afternoon before both of our chasers start playing puts more pressure on them to just keep pace. Go Mitre, go Yankees.

johnsondc said...

Mitre had nothing taking the loss. the pen did very well again keeping us in the game. I wonder how many games and at bats we will have to go through until Arod hits his 600th HR. Hope it is a lot sooner than waiting for his 500th as he swings for the seats every at bat takes the apple.

William Mensom said...

We looked flat. But your starter getting shelled every inning doesn't help. Neither does Arod looking to hit a home run with every swing.

Pete H said...

Hughes needs a rebound game so we can take the series and not split with KC.

YankeeMike said...

One bright spot. The bullpen looks like it is reorganizing and becoming much more responsible.

Anonymous said...

This would be a good game for Hughes to come up big and show how good he is. We need to keep winning.

RLA said...

Sean OSullivan is pitching for KC. If he wins, he will have beaten us twice in the same week for two different teams. Pound his butt, guys.

Linda Pardo said...

Rain delay with Hughes and the Yankees in front. That should be it for Hughes. the pen will finish out the game. Keep the zeroes coming guys.

Tom Loughlin said...

Looks like this will be a relatively long rain dela, considering friday nights was almost 1 1/2 hours.

johnsondc said...

The WIN is in the bank. 1000 hit for Cano. 12th win for Hughes. Granderson 2 HRs. Jeter 3 more hits. Seven game road trip next up.

Roy Addison said...

One game at a time, just keep winning. Hate to say it, but a playoff spot is very close at hand.

Sid Lovitz said...

6-3 home stand coming off the break. Now 7 on the road. 4-3 would be acceptable, but lets get at least 5-2 or more. Javy tonight.

William Mensom said...

3-1 over the Tribe and 2-1 over the Rays I would love. start us off Javy.

Steve said...

I was just perusing the baseball fever forum thread on Can Haren becoming a Yankee. Not one poster there has a clue about baseball, player talent or what they are even talking about. Utter fools in the talk forums, brilliant genius in this blog. Two different worlds, here based on winning, reality, and the truth. There based on ignorance, fantasy, and deceptions.

Warren Hammond said...

Steve.....you hit the nail on the head. At the forums, garbage posting garbage. WIN METHOD said the Yankees weren't in the market for a starter. We know that, but the baseball fever know nothing but garbage.

WIN METHOD said...

Just a headup YANKEE fans and posters here at WIN METHOD. A forum called talk-basball is no longer a baseball talk forum. It has been bought out and taken over by a shyster shill peddling baseball amd other sports cards. Keep away from this site and warn your family and friends.

Erica Nuyens said...

Thanks WIN METHOD, I heard about that forum being taken over and ruined. What can you do, but warn people.

Mike Smith said...

Javy needs to be strong and go a solid seven innings. Win and we can't be caught.

Bert Jackson said...

All the baseball forums are for idiots who want to play fantasy games. Lets start the road trip on the right foot. WIN!

Zack J said...

As John Sterling called it....who can deliver?....the Grandymancan, the Grandymancan.....TTHHHEEEEE YYAANNKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS WIN.

Linda Pardo said...

Great game from Javy and Granderson. Grandy is getting hot now and another bat like his can carry us a very long way.

Benny Pake said...

Big time WIN METHOD win last night. Keep it going.

Giambino said...

CC is home and has something for his old team. Chalk up another W for CC and the Yankees.

Yankeeforever said...

A win a day keeps the competition at bay. Hope Arod gets his 600th soon and over with. Just love when Pena plays third base for him. Less ground for Jeter to cover to make up for Arod.

Phil Jenkins said...

Hint to the other teams....if you want to beat the Yankees, just bring up some minor league pitcher they have never faced before. UGH!

Anonymous said...

All of a sudden no hitting. Hard to win when you score one or two runs. AJ again tonight.

Victor Gandozi said...

Correct, we need to get back on track. These no names coming in and beating us is ridiculous. then we turn right around and grind out wins against the best pitchers in the game.

Deb F said...

Finished it all. I'm here to stay. Brilliant stuff from a brilliant author. Go YANKEES.

Billy Morgan said...

Don't really want to split with the Indians. Need to win these next two.

Sharon/NC said...

Lets do it again AJ. We need you to help carry us. Wake up Arod. OK so you'll get your 600th when we are up by 10 runs.

Wayne Littlebear said...

Blow the Tribe away. Scalp them. Right, not politically correct, but so what.

Stan the Man said...

AJ and bullpen superb again. Now if Moseley and the bats come up big we can take the series instead of a split.

Eddie OConnor said...

You must be of American Indian decent Wayne. Yes, we scalped them. One more time tonight.

M said...

Just what the doctored ordered. Big early bats and great pitching. Now to finish it off today.

will-i-am said...

Moseleys time to shine.

Erica Johnston said...

Arod keeps plodding along. This win tonight would be really big going into Tampa.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

The Rays won this afternoon. that puts the pressure on us to win to stay 2 in front.

Warren Hammond said...

A nice little trouncing of the Indians. Another series and now on to Tampa to show them once again who is #1.

Teena/Bronx said...

Nice game from Mosely. Hitters took a little while to put across some runs. But the WIN is all that matters. Now to take the next series and head home.

johnsondc said...

A sweep of the Rays will bury them. winning two will keep them at bay. Winning one keeps us in first. No other options. WIN WIN WIN

johnny said...

Go Yankees.

WIN METHOD said...

Great to hear from you johnny. Glad you are smart enough to be here and be a YANKEE fan.

will-i-am said...

Lets get this train rolling again. choo choo.

Vinny F said...

YES chooo chooooo choooo choooo chooo choo chooooo choooo choooooc hooooo chooooooo.

Augie said...

The train is moving. Good start. Chooo choooo.

bigbadwolf said...

Wow, what a horrid game to lose. but that is what happens when the two best teams in baseball play. sadly, only one of them is going to the World Series.

Yankeeforever said...

One bad pitch by each pitcher. One with one on and one with two on. Rough way to lose, but a great way to win. REVENGE

William Mensom said...

Vasquez gets the ball today. bats need to wake up and Arod to hit when it counts.

Giambino said...

the team has made a couple of deals to strenghten the bench. could give the lineup a little more pop.

Hector Lopez said...

Oh man the Yankees got Kerry Wood also. Berkman to be in lineup tonight. Oh man.

Erica Nuyens said...

You have been a busy little beaver WIN METHOD. Thanks for all you do to make the Yankees the best. Love ya.

Gene P said...

Garza no hitter last out. Things even out today as he gets hit and loses.

Victor Bruno said...

The two heavy weight champions aka as the two very best teams in baseball have another down to the last out battle. This time the true champion won.

Steve said...

Javy kept us in the game and the bullpen was superb. Rubber game tomorrow and series decider.

johnsondc said...

Power from the bats to carry the day. Our 'ace' goes tomorrow for the series.

Eddie OConnor said...

Why doesn't MLB just end the season now and have the Yankees and Rays play a 50 game series for the World Series title. it has to be better than letting some half ass ML team play in October.

Cory said...

Super game last night, especially when you win. CC for the series today.

Vinny F said...

Berkman looked like a deer in the headlights last night. Big difference between AL baseball compared to little league nl baseball Lance.

Cindy J said...

Send a message today, win in a romp. Go Yankees.

Fred Slube said...

Big time pitcher in CC. Big game today. The Yankees win.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

Arod benched. Could mean a nice win today for us.

Tom Loughlin said...

Shields was lights out. You don't score a run you can't win. that's it. Home stand next.

WIN METHOD said...

Don't fret WIN METHOD fans. The glass is always half full. We just cam off a 7 game road trip going 4-3, we are still in first place, and now we are home with some great new assets who will start to fit into the fight places. On to the pennant and the playoffs.

Erica Nuyens said...

WIN METHOD comes to the rescue again. Always positive always number one. Love ya.

Billy Morgan said...

OK now we have seven games at home. Minimum has to be 5-2.

Al Ashton said...

AJ needs to keep it going. He has been lights out the last couple of times.

Nick Polito said...

I'm ready to get this home stand on the road. Hope the team is and starts a very solid streak.

Steve said...

Ugly game from AJ. We scored enough to win. Now Moseley becomes the pitcher who stops the skid?

Bill Behan said...

We need to kick it into high gear. Arod needs to get out of his choke mode. His 0 fers in the middle of the lineup are killing us.

YankeeMike said...

Arod is streaky. To streaky to be a true all time great. After he gets 600 he will be alright. Until then we suffer.

Linda Pardo said...

Now is the time for the cream to rise to the top. Lead us Captain Jeter.

Roy Addison said...

Will Moseley be the stopper? I think yes.

Giambino said...

Now we are looking up and have work to do. Somebody has to hit and the somebody needs to be the team.

bigbadwolf said...

Hughes today. somebody has to win again. Then sweep the bosux.

Tom Loughlin said...

OK ALL THIS CRAP IS OVER. WE WILL WIN 10 STRAIGHT GAMES AT SOME POINT OVER THE LAST TWO MONTHS OF THIS SEASON.

William Mensom said...

600, SIX HUNDRED, now back to WIN METHOD baseball. Look out Rays, because when we pass you this time, it will be over for you.
STREAK..................

Phil Jenkins said...

Good win for Hughes, the bullpen was flawless yet again and the streak has begun. Down go the sox then the Rays.

Cindy J said...

Rest and recuperate, then begin the run for the wire. HiiiiiiHOOOOOOO and away we go.

Redsoxfan6 said...

This probably is a do or die weekend form my Red Sox team. We have to win three of four to stay alive. a split only delays the funeral.

Giambino said...

We will put you guys out of your misery this weekend. I hate to see where you would be without all the injuries.

Frankie Sergi said...

It didn't last long for the Tampa team. they lost this afternoon and already have slipped a half game behind the Yankees. How does the son go? slip sliding away.

Gwen Jones said...

Just rest and recoup today. the Arod fiasco is over for another three years. Now take it to the bosox this weekend and bury them first.

Yankeeforever said...

Three of four or a sweep will be a perfect weekend series.

Teena/Bronx said...

Big game for Vasquez. boston is throwing their best tonight. beat him and it could demoralize them big time.

Phil Jenkins said...

One game at a time, but win them all, one game at a time.

Carl Joyner said...

Lets take it to them and put then out of their misery..GO YANKEES.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

The dog days of summer, the run for the pennant gets torrid.

Pete H said...

Well last night sucked. a costly error, but that is no excuse in itself.

Redsoxfan6 said...

We aren't dead yet.

RLA said...

CC needs to lead the way. The lineup needs to step it up and take charge.

Steve said...

Yankees catch a break as Arod does something stupid in BR and gets hurt. Pena replaces him and gets 2 RBIs. The Yankees win and the Rays an sux drop a game further behind.

Sam G said...

Good game from CC, one bad inning. Just enough offense. No waste. AJ needs to bring it and win it.

Warren Hammond said...

I know it has been said before, but I hate espn Sunday night 8pm games almost as much as I hate espn.

Roy Addison said...

The third game of a series is said to be the big one. Win the big one tonight. AJ bring your best game.

Nick Polito said...

Rays take it on the chin again today. Blue Jays pound them into the ground yesterday and pitch them into the ground today. Make hay tonight Yankees.

Eddie OConnor said...

A win tonight would mean an awful lot and could really help insure the playoffs.

bigbadwolf said...

AJ is out tonight with back spasms. Moseley replacing him. Arod back in lineup. Still need to earn the win.

Billy Morgan said...

Derek Jeter film 'The Other
Guys' opens number 1 this weekend. Is there anything the Captain isn't good at.

Ted Long said...

Moseley does all you can hope for. Jeter leads the hit parade and the Yankees increase their division leading lead. One more time tomorrow.

Victor Gandozi said...

What a nice game from Moseley last night. The Yankees have the deepest and best pitching staff in baseball ad the pen throws the last 2 and 2/3 innings of more shutout ball.

Giambino said...

With AJ out Hughes moves up today and gets a chance to put another nail in the bosux coffin.

Alan James said...

This could be the Redsox crusher, lets win it.

sid greenberg/nyc said...

What a tough loss. There is no doubt, or there should be no doubt to anyone who knows baseball the four best teams in MLB are all in the AL East.

Bill Behan said...

Yes on both counts. Tough loss and the best teams in baseball are in the AL East.

YankeeMike said...

Hughes threw very well. The bullpen was impeccable again. We didn't catch a break. And in the end we lost. That is the nature of the game. Move on. Hit the road and win some series.

Mike Smith said...

On the road again. Texas first with AJ tonight. Just keep winning.

M said...

Lets get off on the right foot tonight.

Cindy J said...

We never know what we get when AJ goes. If he is on, we get an easy win. If he is off, we struggle and could lose.

Redsoxfan6 said...

We are still alive.

johnsondc said...

Good game from Burnett. bad loss as Mo fails. Javy vs Lee tonight. Bats need to wake up.

Benny Pake said...

This is a big game tonight just to even the series.

Vinny F said...

The competition is getting closer. Wake up guys and kick it into gear.
