Understanding WIN METHOD

It appears there is some confusion out there regarding the WIN METHOD. 99 44/100% of the confusion seems to be in the minds of the stat frauds. Who would have guessed? First, the WIN METHOD defines a player for a season, several seasons, or a career based on how much they helped there team reach the playoffs, win pennants, and win the World Series. The more times a player helps his team reach these goals the higher his rating. Now, that is not to complicated. Second, I use stats, probably most everybody uses stats in one way or another. The use of stats to see how much power a player shows, high high an average he hits, how many runs he scores, RBIs he gets and so on is fine and tells much about players. However, there is only one truly valid way to judge just how good any players is. And that is using the WIN METHOD evaluation. It makes no difference what an individuals personal stats are. Many of those individual stats are dependent on his team mates anyways. Plus, what an individual accomplishes for himself, is not the object of the game. That last sentence is where the stat frauds are led astray. The object of the game is for the overall success of the team. That is exactly why players must be judged on how they help the team succeed. Yes, a players final evaluation is based on his team mates. Team mates playing together for the success of the team, the reason the games are played. As great as one individuals personal stats may be, if he does not provide what is needed WHEN it is needed, that player can hurt a team. WHEN, WHEN, WHEN, the most important element of the WIN METHOD. A sacrifice fly to win a game in the last inning in infinitely more important than a grand slam in last inning of a game your team is winning 10-0. One helps the team win, the other only helps the individuals stats. Stat Fraud can be defined as a person who tries to tell you a player is the best based solely on that players individual statistics. A bigger stat fraud is someone who uses a convoluted made up formula to define a players defensive prowess or anything else about that player. To conclude, there is nothing wrong with using stats, but please do not become a stat fraud and define a players ability by his individual stats. Define a player by using the WIN METHOD, and find out over his career, how many times he helps his team to the playoffs, pennants, and WS. Headed to Tampa for an extended period, more blog when I get back.

Simply the greatest baseball blog I have ever come across.

If anyone can't understand this, they've got problems.

The big problem I see with the method is the almost total absence of clarity on projections. The only forward-looking part I've ever seen discussed is the interviews for a player's mental makeup, which are (at best) cloaked in secrecy. Everything else is a measure of success *after the fact*.

Using wins to judge who the best players are is the same as stat guys using a players BA to know he is a good hitter, or how many home runs he hits to discover how much power he has. You don't know for sure until it happens. Thus using the WIN METHOD to rate players is simply the best way possible.

This is my third time commenting. i am a girl, love baseball, and love this blog. For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone does not understand your WIN METHOD.

I asked a stat guy why he thought his individual stat guy was great. He said because of his stats. I said my guy was better. He asked why. I responded, because he helps his team to pennants and world series and his guy doesn't. I asked why his guy couldn't help his team to these goals. He said, all together now, "it was his team mates fault." You said that is what he would say. You win, the stat guys lose.

for hindsight.. stats are hindsight and so are wins. if you can predict the future you can make a fortune gambling. wake up and smell the roses.

Buds told me to visit here, can't believe how good it is.

hard to believe anyone can't support what you have blogged. it has been true. some people can't handle the truth.

I just found this blog and find it wonderful. Great insight.

I got sick of the idiots on the baseball forums. Glad to see so many people here really do know basebal.

a friend asked me to join his fantasy baseball league. i asked, is the outcome based winning or individual stats.. he said stats. i said, no thanks, baseball is played to win and winning determines the best. he had a blank stat fraud stare on his face.

I recently posted about how some people can't handle the truth. Here's a WIN METHOD truth. A player with lesser individual stats can help his team more than a player with higher individual stats. Reason, because it is not important how much an individual attains for himself, but WHEN he attains for the team.

For TJ. You are dead on accurate. And that is exactly why individual stats can be so meaningless. To many people quote stat after stat, only showing how little their stat backed opinion means.

Strong positive stuff. Similar to Jack Welchs book WINNING.

I just posted on a baseball forum where I responded to a very confused poster who rattled off about ten names of ex-Yankee role players who helped the team win WS rings who he said weren't any good, because they weren't starters. I just can't fathom the unadulterateded ignorance of that poster.

bigbadwolf...I found that forum where you posted. Oh my God, are they that stupid?

checking blogs, i came across this one, very interesting and enlightening, i've been indoctrinated with stats and never looked at the game thru your perspective, i think you have something here.

Anonymous said...

I think I'm drunk. Other people than just me thinking winning is the most important attribute in judging who is best. Thank you all.

Anonymous said...

how would you rate the many players with very good individual stats that have never won a world series.

Anonymous said...

Please blog more often. Your method is incitefull and exciting.

I like this information,

what is derek jeter really like?

If the purpose of teams playing baseball, other than to make money, is to get to the WS, I think it would be logical and common sense that the players who win the most WS are the best. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

Great new WIN METHOD fans, it appears A-Fraud will be out of action for some part of the season. The longer the better.

Anonymous said...

I just heard the news. What a break for the team.

Anonymous said...

WIN METHOD, you must be ecstatic with the opportunity for someone to be added to the lineup who can hit when it counts.

Anonymous said...

I posted here about Arod in Jan. Wow, what a break for the Yankees. A clutch hitter added to the lineup filling the hole Arod caused.

Anonymous said...

life is good, we catch a break

Anonymous said...

you guys don't like arod much

Anonymous said...

Bad news crops its ugly head. A-Fraud may be allowed to play through the injury. I think Cashman may be afraid that if A-Fraud is out of the lineup for four months and the team rock and rolls, it will only intensify the dislike knowledgeable baseball fans have for A-Fraud.

Anonymous said...

logical outlook bigbadwolf.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it true that over the past decade or so every team Arod went to lost more games than before he played for them. And each team he left immediately won more games after he left.

Anonymous said...

I just called and was on the Mike Francesa show. I confronted him woth how my friends and I do not want Arod on the team and I said that if Arod did not play the season, the Yankees would win the World Seriess. He immediately went the stat fraud route bellowing individual stats. I told Mike I would rather the team win than have his individual stats and lose.

Anonymous said...

Lets start the season already, I'm going stir crazy.

Anonymous said...

Steve: I was listening watching on YES. That was you? Great job, Francesa was befuddled and you shut him up with the I would rather win than lose with individual stats.

Anonymous said...

Great job Steve. The WIN METHOD has more fans than that stat frauds like to admit. That is why they are frauds, and getting buried with winning baseball.

Thanks guys. I love the WIN METHOD. More so, I love making fools of the stat frauds.
